Click to collapse
if it's the same .cab as mine, try this...
-open "contacts"
-tap "new"
-input fist and last name
-tap "ok"
either
-select newly created contact by highlighting only (do not tap)
-tap "menu"
-tap "save as first last"
or
-press hold stylus on contact for menu
-tap "save as first last"
awesome! sorry thought it was an automatic thing...
btw...thanks
thankyou very much, it was annoying the hell out of me before.
That is I needed to - thanks
Another way to sort first, last is through Outlook Contacts. If you open a contact and select the dropdown menu File as:, you'll be able to sort by first name. Of course you'll have to do this for every contact but it will always be there in case you ever have to hard reset.
this program seem to solve my problem. However, will it create any double entry when I sync with outlook?
This program's good - but is there any way to do it automatically for all contacts (without Outlook)?

Hi All.
I have just got my M1000 and have got a quick question.
All of my contacts are surname/firstname.
Is there anyway to change this.
I have searched the forum but couldnt find anything
thanks
Tim
The only fixes mentioned involved changing these settings on the Outlook (i.e. the PC) side. For new entries, you can specify "File As (Firstname Lastname)" in Outlook. For older ones, you have to change them, and somebody on this forum wrote a utility to do that to a handful of contacts.
On the XDA itself you don't have an option to specify "File As". I've gotten into the habit of not writing the names directly but making the name dropdown appear (by clicking on the arrow to the right) and writing the full name in the "First Name" entry.
try pocket informant.
Very powerful addon for the PCC outlook.
Has the function u're looking for... showing first name then surname. Plus alot of extra functions.
thanks
I purchased a HTC touch HD (blackstone) yesterday. the phone has been unlocked and the version is: R: 1.09.25.14, G: 52.49a.25.26w, D: 1.19.255581. and the ROM version showed in os is MicNeo CHS.
The phone is good, however, if I create a new contact, the contact can't be deleted or be edited any more after it has been stored. Each time when I choose "delete" from the menu, a dialog is poped up to ask me to confirm the deletion, but it will never success.
Is there anyone can help me?
In your list of contacts, when you tap on a contact, you see their name with picture, then the different numbers or addresses for that contact etc.
If you tap on the name/picture, it should open the contact file to edit it. Does that work for you?
I don't know why it is not deleting it when you tap "delete contact".
it doesn't work, no image is shown and when I tape it, I can only see an blank screen labeled as "summary".
Hm, I don't know why that is. Since nobody else has posted any other options to solve this, maybe to can hard reset the phone and see if that fixes it.
Hi guys,
Just noticed how the Nexus, when i go to messaging and compose a new SMS i cannot view my contact list and select someone. Instead i need to type the first 2 letters of their name and they appear in a dropdown box. Is their no way to bring up the contact list and choose someone?
Thankyou
Download "Handcent SMS" from the market

Yeah, I don't understand the logic there either. Although you could just start in your contacts list and select the text message link from there. Still not as intuitive.
Find the person first, then type the message?

Thanks so i guess its not only me that finds this simply problem annoying. I hate it when i make a mistake accidentally hitting the wrong key and need to delete. Would be such a simple process just adding via contact list.

Well... yeah. Go to your contact list, find the person, and you have a centralized screen where you can choose, inter alia, to call, sms, or email them.
add contacts to sms
Assign your contacts a label i.e. home, mobile etc..
This will solve your problem.
You might have to do this individually for each contact.
I find it extremely annoying that any alterations to any contact cause the phone to save the contact in a "Last, First" format. I don't like that, and I prefer a more standard "First Last".
The only way I found I can do this is through an old WinMo app called contact fix... but I need to fire it up manually after every small edit I make to any contact (let alone actually adding a new one).
Is there a way to change the default saving mode? Perhaps a registry entry of sorts?
no you cant change the default behavour.
If you sync with outlook, you CAN change this same behavour in that, which helps some.
Look for 'contact changer first/last' which will switch all your current contacts (as you may have already done) and from now on, when you are creating a new contact, be sure and scroll to the bottom - more - then where the name shows, top left, tap it, and the third option down is 'file as'
Bit of a pain, really.
Personally i put the whole name in the first name (or last name, doesnt matter) field how i want it to show, no problem.

Well, that's definitely something that should get fixed at some point in WinMo...
Alternatively, perhaps it's a good idea for a background application to automatically set the "file as" parameter on any new or recently edited contacts...
Hi,
I also find it extremely annoying that each time you add or EVEN edit a contact it saves it as "Last, First". Can anybody help with this since there must be a setting for this (in the registry I would think).
Thx in advance.

You could always use Microsoft Contacts rather than Sense Contacts.
Start -> Outlook -> Contacts.
Personally I edit any contacts in my computer's Outlook and sync them to my phone.
I own a HD2. When I wish to add a new contact, say, John Smith, I click on the NEW CONTACT icon and then a windows appear. In this windows I have 3 blank field:
- Name:
- Company:
- File as:
I enter John Smith: but I wish to have a sub-field called: 'First name' and the select it for 'John' and another sub-field called 'Family name' and put in it 'Smith'
how to do?
Thanks
Saulo
I am sure there is such an option, to select a sub-field...I once opened this but some kind of gesture (maybe double click or long-click on a certain area of the screen...I cannot duplicate that gesture now.
Can someone please help or suggest?
Saulo
I read the manual at page 102: there is no explanation on how to select independently First Name and Family name fields on middle name field.
The way I do now is to
- sync with outlook 2010
- re-edit the contact on my outlook
- re-sync again with my HD2
But of course this is time consuming...
Thanks and waiting
Sauli
strange that you don't have first and last name fields,,, does your new contact tab not look like mine?
EDIT oh wait, you are using the windows mobile new contact, not sense new contact.
Hallo Sam
Right, I do not have your screen. I have a simplified one with only 3 areas:
Name
Company
Fle as
Any suggestions?
Saulo
I have dutch version, but I manage with following:
Windows key > Outlook > Contacts > new
Then on the name field there is a small triangle (seet screenshot) this will open a sub-screen where you may enter all information.
Note I have downloades Mobile Office 2010, perhaps that is causing this.
...
So I am not using HTC_Contacts....
Thanks a lot!
I now understand that my problem is that I use HTC sense...Probably if I download microsoft Office 2010 Mobile, as you did, it will disable HTC sense, (which does not allow for name sub-fields). Can you suggest me the link for it?
Thank you!
Saulo
I have downloaded and installed Office 2010 including outlook...but still HTC sense prevails and when I click outlook > new contact HTC contacts shows up...
Conclusion: I need to disable HTC Contact...any suggestion?
Thank you!
Saulo
You should push the windows key, then outlook 2010, then contacts (the Blue Icon).
Not Sense contacts, more.... that's sense contacts, there you miss the fields you want.
If you have CHT, you could make a quicklink to contacts, the "blue Icon" is what you're looking for, not the "greyish Rolodex card".
Thanks for your support
That is exactly what I do: I click on windows key (I have unistalled HTC Manila) and then on Office Mobile 2010 folder icon: inside there is NO Outlook.
There is another folder icon, called "Outlook". If I click inside I can see:
- Contacts (a yellow icon)
- Notes (green background icon)
- Tasks (red)
- Calendar (blu blackground)
I click on Outlook (Yellow icon), then NEW > then the follow two screen appears...
Do you a way to unistall completely HTC Contact ?
Thanks
Saulo
OK,
I notice you have e t-mobile branded phone.
They have a tendency to screw around bending things to their own taste..... (as does vodafone BTW). Mine is unbranded.
I am afraid I cannot help you as T-Mobile seems to have F**ED around with Outlook.....
Sorry mate.
Any suggestions about how to fully disable HTC Contacts?
Thanks a lot!
Saulo
Yes it is t-mobile, but since the second day I have hard reset and installed a cooked ROM (I cannot recollect which one), so it now as any unbranded one.
Obviosly I could try different cooked ROM, but I have too many software installed, I prefer to try to Disable HTC first.
have a nice day
Saulo
no more suggestions about disabling HTC Contacts skin?
Saulo
I just installed the Enery Rom (loving it BTW), and behold: same screen you have.
as a side note if you installed a custom rom, why is it still branded with t-mobile?
Normally branding disappears when flashing a new rom. T-mobile is printed on Phone.... it's the colour that threw me off (in combination with print on top )
As an alternative:
Could you do following:
Goto home screen, slide to contacts, select all people, new
pls post screen.
Hallo Wilco
I get the same input mask...see my attached thumbnail on the first page of this thread

I got another screen... it gives me more possibilities.
Sorry for you it is not that way.
Perhaps you should try flashing another ROM?
I am using energy diniks glass from sptember 18th
I know, but I cannot change ROM now, since I have too many software installed and it would require too much time to re-install them.
I remember an utility caled BsB Tweaks: can it disable HTC?
There is another utility I forgot the name, which is powerful and probably contains some tweaks to kill any residual HTC applications, including HTC contacts...can somebody remind me?
Thanks
Saulo
found the answer:
when in edit mode put your cursor in the field "Name" and hit the "Enter" key.
