hey guys i just updated my device to have touchflo 2.3 and slide to unlock.
My only problem is that about half my phonebook is missing. I'm not sure if its just the numbers on my sim, or my numbers saved to my phone.
They are still on my phone because they show up if i try to send the person a text (you know how it predicts the person by there name when you go to type it in the send to), but they won't show up in my phone book.
Does anyone have any clue why this might happen, or anything i could do to fix it?
If you didn't back up the numbers first before you flashed your phone with TouchIT 2.3, then you deleted all your contacts. The ones that are showing are in your SIM but TouchIT is setup so that it won't show them in your contact list.
i backed up my numbers, but is there anyway for me to move the sim contacts on my phone so that i can see them in my phone book?

First i would like to say that this is an excellent board for HTC devices. Never i have seen so many helpfull topic.
I own a HTC Touch 3G for a week now, yester i copied my sim contacts to my "contacts" on the phone (i need new sim for new provider)
Now when ever I try to dial a numer or open contacts, i see this
picture:
I can still use the numbers and browse contacts but this "busy" icon is bothering me since i can hit "2" for dialing.
I hope i explainend my problem in good English

Not sure why the "wait cursor" is there. I never experience the "wait cursor" on my dialer. What should happen is - when you press a button, it should search for the number or alphabet in the contact list (and SIM, if you configure both). If number or alphabet is found it will display on the list. If not it will ask if you want to save the number typed to contact.
Have you tried "softrest" , close all other running programs and see if any better ?
Soft reset was my first thougt. It did not work.
The problem was solved when i discovered an option to hide sim contacts
My sim contacts are hidden and it all goes a lot faster now
Useful finding. I did not experience the "wait cursor" delay bacause my SIM list is small, less than 50.

when someone calls my diamond II
it only shows the number of the caller, but not the name even though they are in my contacts how can i change this so it says who calles by name instead of number..

This sometimes happen if you have multiple entries of the same number....then phone shows only number and no name.....Is this happening for each incoming call..or just for few contacts...
for all contacts it happens, but most do have an mobile number and an home number..
can i change anything to fix it? or is it a fault on the diomand II .
Multiple numbers for same contact should not be a problem, but multiple contacts for the same number sometimes causes this....fr me it is working fine, so it should not be a TD2 bug..

all contacts have just one mobile number and one home number so i don't know where to search a solution

Try to not use the prefix.
(+countrycode)

this was discusserd once already (I think. I can recall the drop the prefix solution). Search a bit. alas, I will give you a link if I find one
Im having a similar problem. The caller id dosent work for some of my contacts, both when they phone me or when they send a SMS. Im sure they are saved in my phone and not on my sim and from what I can see there isn´t any difference from how they are saved in my phone book from the ones that the caller id works for. Its really strange and annoying. Hope someone has a solution for this problem.
Did you try just delete that contact and make it again. I know it's stupid question but ...

yes i did. I also tested to make a new contact from the sms view with the option save contact with the actual number that shows instead of the name and it still didnt work. Thanks anyway.

I've had the same problem since day of purchase. I did the reg edit to increase the numbers the phone looks at to identify a number but it still didn't work. I've also deleted and re-created the contacts with no success.

I had this problem. I submitted the case to HTC Europe but I did not even get a call back after a few months had passed.
Unfortunately the only way to do this is to hard reset the phone.
You will loose all your phone data (contacts etc) but the files on your memory card will be ok.
When you reset the phone, even if you have NO contacts at all on your sim card, you still have to tell the wizard on the first boot to import your SIM contacts. This, for some silly reason, is the only way to get the phone to register the phone contacts from your phonebook, even if you are just using the non-SIM contacts.
I had no numbers on my SIM card and of course I did not select the option to import my contacts. I was going to do that myself via Outlook. Once I selected not to import the contacts, not one number was recognized.
I did a Hard Rest. If you have numbers or not on your SIM does not matter. Allow the initial start-up wizard to import from the SIM. Then continue.
This solved this VERY ANNOYING issue for me. I used SPB backup first to take a copy of my phone data before the reset.

i had this problem too, solution is change registry:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Phone\CallIDMatch:9(DWORD)
this means phone will identify number by 9 last digits - meaning its ignoring country code.
*if 9 not working for you try 10/11/12... one of these should fix.

today I tried all the numbers, from 7 to 12
11 was the value that made me look some of my callerID. now I have the same problem, but not with everybody, but only some people
let's say a 50% of my contacts are shown on the screen when they are calling me/sending me an sms, but the other 50% doesn't show me the name but just the number.
today I tried with my mom's phone to call me. it didn't show the name. So i deleted her name from the contact, and added it again (from the missing call). now it's showing her name... Do I have to do it with all the phonebook?
is there something I can do to fix it? it's making me crazy
please help me..
I have, absolutely same problem, erasing the contact and creating it again, did not solve, very very strange. I've tried iterchange of numbers home>work, work>home, work> auto, home > auto, invane, some of contacts refuse to display name, compared the phones i have no same numbers for names ecc. First of all i have to mention that numbers have been migrated from Nokia 6230i via Outlook Express > Outlook > Phone , some of the numbers like Home, Bussiness Fax ecc, did not passed to Diamond 2
I've just noticed that a Hotfix was released a few days ago, which just might solve this problem.

I haven't tested it yet, so let us know if it works for anyone
try to make all contacts same format with TrineFix or similar app,
set numbers without country code, for example in israel i set 05XXXXXXXX instead of +9725XXXXXXXX, then i change CallIDMatch to 8.
this is how it works for me.
I had a problem with none of my contacts names coming up when they called me, it would only show their number. After x2 software resets and installing everything again I found the problem, when you do a software reset and you turn the phone on for the first time when it asks you to import from your sim card contacts DONT DO THIS if you sync your phone with Active Sync and outlook contacts as this is where the problem is.
If you import your contacts from your sim and you sync with outlook then your caller id's will not work.
If I try to dial a german number beginning with "01" it always sends me back to the homescreen.
I can dial all other numbers except for numbers beginning with "01". But all mobile phone numbers in Germany start with "01" so its a big problem for me.
Can anyone help?
I have the same problem, it´s just not "01", it´s several numbers like "25", "02". I also did a factory reset, and it changed the numbers, before it was "07" and "05" but now they work and others do the same thing. I phoned up the place where I have to send the phone for repair and they said it´s most likely a software issue, it happens when new phones come out. So yeah, call the shop where you bought it from and they will tell you what to do and who to contact for further details. Best of luck!
Edit: I fixed it BY MISTAKE! (lol)
My solution: I delete all my contacts (because I didnt want to send it in with the contacts) and then I tried it out and it worked! I also noticed every time I clicked the green button to call someone, it was on the tab "contacts" instead of "dialler". Another thing, before when I typed "25" I was sent to my homescreen, but not that I reset all my contact when I type "25", one of my numbers appear highlighted with "25" so I am pretty sure that there was a glitch with some of my contacts and now it doesn´t bug up. Try it out and let me know =)
Solution: Delete all contacts, restart, copy contacts back from sim! Voila =)
I had a similar problem with my Milestone 2 when I dialed "22". The dialer would simply close. After some experimentation, I found that the problem only happened when my Facebook contacts were hooked into the phone. By chance, I found that my first Facebook contact had put a non-numeric phrase in his mobile telephone number field on Facebook, and once I had unfriended him, and reset my contacts, then everything worked fine.
So if the dialer is shutting unexpectedly, then checkout whether any of your contacts have a non-numeric phone number.

I've got the same problem when I type +3939, it's a big problem because I'm Italian!
No problem by typing the numbers you posted before.
When I go to make a phone call, there is not an option to Put in a name or letter of someone in the call list. It makes me hit contacts and search the of names and emails. Most smart phones today will have a drop down or contact guesser as you dial.....any fix for this. I do I have to keep searching over a hundred or so contact along with all emails contacts =(
Did you try the WP7 specific "search button" once you opened the phone dialog? On your HD2, it´s actually mapped to the "Home" hardware button. Try it in other situations, too, it´s really good!
