Applications that actually work on the o2 xda mini s - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Could somone suggest some decent applications that I can actually get to work on this device:
I need: -
Sat nav
like a hiking nav
tv remote (if possible)
and any other decent applications you could suggest.
Thanks in advance,
Ross

I have an XDA MiniS and have loads of 3rd party apps and today plugins working. Any application written for WM05 should work!!!! I do not use sat nav (the car has one already) so cannot advise on that - however I use:
Pocket Breeze
Pocket Weather
Avantgo
Battery Bar Pro
Journal Bar
True Toolbar
WisBar
Convertor CE
Eval - Scentific Calculator (Not specifically for WM05 but works fine)
Stop time - Fancy Stop watch alarms etc (Not specifically for WM05 but works fine)
Empheris - Moon phase calendar etc (Not specifically for WM05 but works fine)
and various other file management and backup tools. :?
In fact the only application that didn't transfer from my old device (Windows 2003) was tAgenda - shame as it was a handy little app. I use Pocket Breeze now for this function.
Search on Hanandgo or Pocketgear sites for applications.
Here are some TV controllers:http://www.handango.com/SoftwareCat...=add&N=4294967089&Ntt=tv+remote&Ntk=All&Nty=1

TomTom Nav 5 does work and very well too. You just have to set up the GPS receiver according to the instructions on this site.
Dave

Sorry, I just realised that you wanted hiking GPS - "Fugawi" should work.
Dave

If you like hiking and walking try memory map...
http://www.memory-map.co.uk/
I found version 5 on edonkey and had have the full ordinance survey maps for kent and the south-east. Very good for walks. You can even use a bluetooth gps and plot the route you walk and upload it back into the PC.
The software fully installs on your PC and has an option under one of the menus to install the pocket pc version. You then send the maps you want to it (again via the software). The London A-Z I have installed is 312mb. Better invest in the 2gb San Disk SD card. (goto froogle, its £55 inc del and VAT)
Resco explorer is another great app and comes with an FTP client, reg editor and allows you to connect to shares on windows PCs/servers.
Thanks

TomTom Nav 7 works well on XDA Mini S.

the power user's tools set

I'm new to this PPC biz (HP 100LX -> Treo180->Treo270->XdaII)
So now that I've played with my XDAii for two weeks,
I'd love to hear what other people use. This is my current setup:
1. MagicButton - this change the 'x' application hide into a real close
and show an actual bar (like winXP, but on top). It is free, small,
doesn't work too well with Phone Edition :-( but is much better
than Battery Pack 2004. There are many ways to do this...
2. cLaunch - allows setting up icons on the Today to run applications
directly (like a desktop on WinXP). Again - this is free and seems
better than Battery Pack 2004 (which combines too many features)
3. GPRS Monitor - by SPb. cute. works well.
4. TotalCommander - files manager. free, looks good, seems to have
no bugs, allow zip/unzip...
4. Multiie 3.0 - allows multiple windows, full screen, save pix, view
source in pocketIE. Also Macromedia Pocket flash 6 addon to IE.
5. WorldMate 2004 - gives world time, misc data for travelers,
and weather forcast. Promblems: won't update via GPRS,
doesn't show sunset/sunrise
6. In conjuction with WorldMAte, I'm also using Pocket Earth which
shows a neat earth display and gives sunset/rise/distance etc,
and citytime, which is much more practical but with less data...
7. PocketTV of course, to play mpg files
8. myipconfig, pocketping - simple network utilities
9. ruler, rangefinder - neat utilities
10. Calculator - the free Engineering calculator by Agang
Summary:
working the OS: MagicButton, cLaunch, TotalCommander
Internet Explorer: MultiIE, PocketFlash, GPRS monitor
multimedia: PocketTV
world time etc: Pocket Earth, WorldMate, Citytime
network utils: myipconfig, pocketping
misc: engineering calculator, ruler, rangefinder.
Still looking for: a good regeditor,
battery/memory/etc display like Battery Pack w/o the other gadets,
show all processes/threads/memory status utility,
maping tools for GPS and scanned maps,
impoved contacts (like Palm's search), calander (allowing change of
date when alarm turns on), phone (dial with one finger / big letters).
Please post what U are using!!!
A note to XDA I users: I'm sure if you all meet it will be clear most
of you learned, a year ago, which is the best RegEditor, File finder,
etc etc... but us newcomers don't want to download every little
software ever written and test it ourselves ... please guide us!
Application list
After purchasing several hundred's of dollars worth of Pocket PC applications / games, I have narrowed my most used down to the following.
Hudson Mobile - IP Dashboard
Journal Bar
Journal Bar Expansion Pack
Super Calendar
Print Pocket CE - allows printing of emails and documents to IR and network printers
Resco File Explorer
Resco Registry Editor
TomTom Navigator GPS
Handymenu
Games-
Bejeweled
Jawbreaker
Pac-Man
Pocket Conquest
Been testing and resetting my PDA and finally decided to have this few programs in my XDA II:-
(arrangement as in my PDA pic)
1) HudsonMobile PhoneDashboard
2)Todayplus
3)Spb GPRS Monitor
4)Battery pack 2004
others :
5)Resco Explorer 2003
What program gave you the tabs on the today screen?
Never mind.. I found todayplus out on the web.
lol, I can see a "prettyest today screen" competition on here
That is pretty.

Programs That work in Jasjar

Hello :
Anybody can put a list of software that already tried and work in jasjar ?
Thnks a Lot
Luis.
I'll start:
Hudson IP dashboard
SPB PocketPlus 3
Tweaks2K2 latest build
Wisbar Advance 2 (latest beta build)
Resco File Explorer
Microsoft Voice Command 1.5
rilot have you tried Hudson Phone Dashboard. Does it work as well?
Thanks
Just checked.
Yes it does.
try looking at the lists of programs which works on himalaya and blue angel
in mw2005 mode it would be likely that compatiblity is os related and not
hardware related
Fax software for jasjar?
Any links appreciated
Hi,
Here is the link for working programs in WM5. http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=20727&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
By the way, Anyone ever successfully installed Money 2005 for PPC?
I tried to install it. It installed successfully, but when ActiveSync 4 sync the money database, a box just came out saying "Reading device databases" and stays there forever. No sincronization at all...
Best Regards,
You may already know, but MS has released Money2006 for PPC.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...65-42f5-4dca-b301-9f05a8583692&DisplayLang=en
I haven't tried it, but maybe it will solve your sync issues? If not, then we ought to slap MS for not even preparing their own software for AS4 and WM5.
WM2005 and software working (not??)
In relation to these:
SPB PocketPlus 3
Resco File Explorer
Microsoft Voice Command 1.5
I couldnt get them to work. SPB works for "quicklaunch" on the today screen, but no forced "close", no battery indicator, no PIE tweaks etc.
Resco couldnt even see the windows directory, and all Icons were not displaying correctly, and MSVC installed but doesnt work properly, and now wont install as I cant even get the icon out of settings.
If somebody can help me to get these to work, wonderful, maybe I have old versions? I love these 3 products and would be grateful to anybody who can help get them to work.
use the latest versions of resco exolorer and spb produts(plus, weather, gprs). they works
SW use in Jasjar(tested all working)
Pocket Paint
Sound Editor
VT sketch
wordmateha
winzip
games
Flux challange
sky force
billiards
Well, I currently have:
Working perfectly:
SPB Pocket Plus 3.1
Pocket Weather
Resco Explorer
Resco Radio
Leonard Maltin's Movie Guide
Tweaks 2K2
SK Tools
One For All Solitaires
Worms World Party
Working and Usable:
Pocket Breeze (Some settings screens don't display perfectly, but it doesn't affect usability)
Pocket Music Bundle (Folder selection screens have some corruption, but after setting it up to load my entire music folder into the playlist at startup, everything appears in my playlist without any problems)
Morphgear (You need to fiddle about with the 'Orientation' and button mapping settings to get the up, down left and right buttons to actually 'do' up, down left and right, as Morphgear refuses to run properly in landscape mode)
Not working:
Contact Breeze
I've also tried out the SPB Weather & Diary which work perfectly, but I'm happier with Pocket and Contact Breeze (when it's updated) and Pocket Weather, so I've ditched most of my SPB stuff.
So far:
Pocket Plus 3.01
Planmaker - but beware you have to install in portrait mode
Textmaker - " " " " " " "
Calendar Plus from MohairSofa - a little dodgy doesn't quite line up the list right.
OK, I'll add my successes and failures:
Full Details click here
Very Good:
SOTI Pocket Controller v5.04 with my own skin.
WebIS Pocket Informant 2005 R3 Beta.
SBSH Pocket Breeze v4.3.18
Lakeridge WisBar Advance 2 v2.4.1.10
TCMP BetaPlayer v0.66
SPB Pocket Plus v3.0.1
Pocket Hack Master 2005 v3.15.000
Total Commander Registry cleaner
With some issue or disabled feature:
Pocket Music Bundle Pro v3.71 - but with landscape issues
VITO Sound Explorer 2005 v1.25 - No Today Plugin - Needs Hack Master!
Can't be installed yet:
Sprite Backup v3.1.3
SBSH Contact Breeze v1.1.0.1
CoPilot v5.0 GPS software
Rumored to work with some fiddling:
Tom Tom Navigator v5.1 GPS
Destinator 3 GPS
@Kevinnugent
In case of Planmaker have you noticed that once the available ram drops to around 15MB it stops working. The colourful circle spins for a short duration and then nothing happens. I do a soft reset which restores the available RAM to around 27MB and then planmaker starts working again till the available RAM again drops to 15MB or so.
I am using it on a JJ and this is a problem for me. For you and others I don't really know but would be obliged if you can test for me the operation of Planmaker at reduced memory conditions. Love to hear your comments.

This has been identified as an issue cause by PocketPlus, you should see whether you run the latest version 3.01 build 4036 or later.
An updated version of Planmaker is in the works though.

Killer Apps, get help making a list?

I just found Microsoft's Windows Live Search app for Mobile 5.0 and was blown away.
http://wls.live.com
It works like Google Maps but it doesn't suck like the Java based Google Maps I found online; it features optional Bluetooth GPS support, street and sat maps, it's free, it shows Traffic, helps locate local items like Resturants and helps with directions.
Is this the killer app? What are your favorites? Maybe we can make a list for other people to find programs they'll love as much as I love this one.
Rob
Summary so far...
Kevin Baker - My killer apps have to be Resco Explorer and Microsoft VoiceCommand.
Brian McGuire - Must install: Newsbreak 1.2
Lucid - Reperion GPS app
Ellistyle - 1-Calc is a great unit/currency converter (oh--and calculater) & Pocket Informant is a must
SINC - INESOFT Address Book, one handed contact lookup
Dandie's list...
PocketBreeze - best today plugin for a good overview of your appointments, notes, tasks, birthdays etc.
SPB PocketPlus - Still the most complete collection of must have extensions for Windows Mobile (TastManager, Today launcher and much more)
GPRS Monitor - A must if you have to count your GPRS/UMTS traffic
PocketZenPhone - The one and only phone profile switcher. Feature monster!
SpaceTime - More than a calculator. This is almost a math software. Competes with the most advanced scientific calculators on the market (like TI-89)
Pebbles - Very nice and free tool to remote control your pc. Can work like a touchpad
TCPMP - The one and only video player
MortPlayer - The one and only music player
SKTools - Very good collection of system tools
SpriteBackup - The classic backup tool
BGjr - Another *BIG* vote for mortplayer here. It's the only player that I can I get to work completely
Mviana - Felxmail 2007
lajson - I would higly recomend GSPlayer for mp3 and acc audio and internet radio station lissening with a tons of settings and equalizer
srmz - Another set of great applications from Softmaker which is Textmaker (Word Processor) and Planmaker (Spreadsheet).
music man - GoodLink - exchange server sync
wwwes - mapopolis GPS app, pocket stars - very nice star chart software
armedmetallica - Jetware Hands-free Extension provides additional functionality to the built-in Windows Mobile support for the Bluetooth Hands-Free Profile
hotnan - Cash Organizer
dny238 - Windows Live Messenger Beta this app fixes all my problems syncing with Hotmail
I've stopped maintaining the above list...
Look here instead. Keep adding to this post, or add your stuff to the Wiki instead. I like the Forum's email alert feature.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Must_have_tools
i cant wait to give this a better shot tomorrow, this thing looks freaking awesome!!! i wish iguidance would give real time traffic updates like this
It's also very fast and works so much better than Virtual Earth Mobile, particularly when searching for something.
i wonder who made this program.. its to good of quality for a MS product but then again i havent given it a full trial yet...

The only issues I have had with it are related to the GPS connectivity and occasional lockups.
If I leave it running while I go into a store, frequently when i return to the car I can't get it to start communicating with the GPS again without quitting the entire application and starting it back up. Seems like simply unchecking GPS and rechecking from the Menu should do the job.
No other killer apps out there?
Rob
My killer apps have to be Resco Explorer and Microsoft VoiceCommand.
Resco Explorer... easy viewing of available memory, quick access to a (much better than the built in) file explorer, and a nice registry editor.
Microsoft Voice Command... fantastic! Never before have I used voice recognition that works so well, and doesn't require training!!
Follow my software reviews here at the Generic forum; there're a lot of killer apps I've reviewed.
Just tried WLS and you are correct - it is absolutely brilliant! What an amazing piece of software. Kudos for finding it.
Which Browser
So -- which browser do folks use? I have been playing around with Opera Mini -- which looks good. Can't figure out how to reprogram my upper right button to select it though (since, as a midlet, it does not show up separately in the program list)
I am not sure if this would qualify as a "killer app", but its a must install for me.

RE: Windows Live Search Mobile
How the heck do I enter specific addresses for directions? It only lets me get directions from city to city, no directions to specific streets.
edit: I'm not using a GPS and I was testing on Wifi btw. I guess I'll try it out using Edge tomorrow at work, I get a weak GPRS connection at home and can barely connect.
Also, some searches seem to work, other searches don't. Maybe it'll work better over cellular data
I am a big fan of "INESOFT Address Book". Its fantastic to be able to look up contacts with one hand, and be able to choose to SMS them or call them with one hand and have big picture displays with clear big buttons when you get phone calls from people. Integrates perfectly and is by far the best thing i've installed on my Pocket PC.
I can now call, look up, and get around most of my communicating hickups i was experiencing before with 1 hand. My pocket pc is starting to feel like a mobile phone again. YAY!
i assume this only works for the usa - just downloaded it and it looks very good however im in the UK and then GPS couldnt download the data to support this - is there a UK version?
Agreed, it seems to be fantastic, but I can't seem to be able to do searches for files anymore, has that happened to any of you?
edit: i should rephrase that...now that the original search program has been replaced with live search, how does one search for local files?
I can recommend:
PocketBreeze - best today plugin for a good overview of your appointments, notes, tasks, birthdays etc.
SPB PocketPlus - Still the most complete collection of must have extensions for Windows Mobile (TastManager, Today launcher and much more)
GPRS Monitor - A must if you have to count your GPRS/UMTS traffic

Another *BIG* vote for mortplayer here. It's the only player that I can I get to work completely with my iTech R35 clip (full A2DP and AVRCP) on the SPV M3100 (TyTN). Combine it with a large memory card and the QVista skin and you have an unbeatable combination.
Unfortunately Mort's website forum database appears to have died a death right now, so I can't post links. However the version I'm using is 3.31RC6, and it works a treat.
That GPRS Monitor software looks interesting - is it free and where can I find it?

Best 10 Apps

Hello all,
I've just bought a shiny new Ameo. Overall, I'm very happy with it. The keyboard is a bit of a challenge when your hands cover as much acreage as mine, but im sure i'll get used to its idiosyncratic layout and lack of num lock. in time.
So now i'm thinking about which apps to install.
What do you guys think are the essentials? The apps my ameo shouldn't be without?
cheers!
Tomtom 6
MS Live Search
Voice Command
live search - good shout. installed it.
built in gps; i'm lovin it.
Coreplayer (check the other threads in this forum for how to setup) for DivX/XVid playback.
iGo2006 (instead of TomTom6, it's much better ;-) ).
Avantgo client for News/RSS.
Mobipocket Reader for Books.
Also:
AEB Buttons 2.5.2
WM6 Remote Desktop
Skype
Some that I forgot because I'm so used to them being there:
SPB Diary 2.0
SPB Weather
SPB Time
Skype^^ - definately - the VOIP functions of skype actually work using the Athena, the processor in the Wizard wasn't quite good enough.
I'm surprised nobody mentioned ozVGA or MrTrueVGA.
It HAS to be the first thing you install (I prefer ozVGA), closely followed by VJBigPhone and WA2.
Then of course it all depends on what you do with the device, or intend to do.
I really like coreplayer, Resco Explorer and the reg. edit addon
I wouldn't mind some suggestions for an instant messaging program that handles both MSN messenger and Google talk. IM+ 4.33 and 4.35 keeps crashing for me.
Edit: As for num lock. Yes you can do that. Takes a lilttle fiddling with the special button though. 4 presses in a row to lock the "blue keys", 4 presses to "unlock". A little silly, but you get used to it.
my apps...
- IM+ I'm running this without any issues.
- pRSSreader as it's free. I disable the today plug because it makes my phone run slow and i think sometimes lock up.
- WiFiFoFum.
- WM6 Remote Desktop, much better than the WM5 Remote Desktop client.
- TomTom6
- AE Button Plus
- Magic Button
- Resco Explorer (ftp addon, registry addon and works great to connect to other computers on your network.
- SmallMenu Plus
- Sprite Backup
- Total Commander
- VGA software already mentioned above
- Pocket Informant
- BlueTooth and Wifi icons for tray. Someone posted them to the Athena forum recently.
I want to hear what others have installed also. I want to add more and more and more.
Edit: MortPlayer (just an awesome and FREE audio player)
Best photo editing?
What's the best photo editing software for the Athena/WM5? Just looking for something with a lot of options when editing pictures.

I use WA2 but VGA Skins looks ugly oversized......is there a tweak to make it working correctly?
What skin do you use? (QVGA?)
I like the following:
1) Microsoft Voice Command
2) Sling Mobile Player
3) Spb Pocket Plus
4) Spb Diary
5) Spb Insight
6) Marsware Weather Panel
7) SBSH Pocket Weather
8) Sktools
9) Pocket Mechanic
10) Sprite Backup
11) Tweaks2k
12) Vxutil
13) VxIpConfig
14) Tiger Woods PGA Tour
15) Ppc Webcam
16) TCPMP beta version .81
17) Resco Explorer
18) Resco Registry Editor
19) Resco FTP App
20) Resco Radio
21) TomTom 6
22) Verichat (no longer sold/supported)
23) IM+
24) ScaryBear Check Notifications
25) Adobe Reader LE
Thanks for the tip apphoen!

apphoen...thanks a bunch for an excellent tip. iGo 2006 with UK maps is absolutely brill! I much prefer it to TomTom 6 and have already uninstalled from my Ameo. I much prefer the options in iGo but lack the speed camera warnings. Will test it out some more and if all goes well, will probably invest further.
Thanks again for a great heads up.
Apps I cannot live without:
WA2
Resco Explorer 2007 with all plug-ins
TCPMP 0.72RC or Coreplayer
David Andr 'Batti'
AE Button Plus v 2.51
WM6 Remote Desktop
Winmobileapps Call SMS Blocker (but will be trying Spb Phone Suite soon)
WM5torage - must have
SKTools - must have
Resco Pocket Radio v1.60
Resco Photoviewer v6
RARLAB Pocket RAR
Windows Live
Zombienexus WM6 3G Video Calling Dialler skin
Silent Services btIO - normal audio through BT headset
iGo 2006 (just converted from TomTom 6.1)
int13 PacMad (looks sweet on the 5" screen and plays beautifully) as does the following VGA games:
Spb Brain Evolution
Spb Xonix II SA VGA
Real Dice Dominoes, Sudoku Master II & Mahjong
Acky's XP Breakout

I use the default WA2 skin. Then I just take my favorite tsk and adapt it to VGA (96 dpi), and maybe change a few colors. I don't do to much since the default is nice enough.
I really like the look of iGo, so I installed it after a hard reset and configured it. Since synchronising with my Exchange account to get my contacts, it now loads up saying it is searching for contact addresses and performance might be reduced. No matter what I do, it then exits the application after around 30 secs or so. Any ideas? I really don't want to go back to TomTom!!

Christ! No idea! I'm not on an exchange server so it found my contacts fairly swiftly with no problems.
Sorry I can't help with that one.
Here's my pick of the top Pocket PC Apps:
NewsBreak 2.0
SlingPlayer Mobile
WisBar Advance 2
Pocket Weather
TomTom Navigator (I run 5.21)
Opera Mobile
HTTPMail Provider
eWallet
You can Google for all these products, or else see the list with hyperlinks.

What's On Your x7501?

Since this is both an unusual device (bigger screen, vga and lots of memory) and a brand new OS (WM6), I thought it would be a good idea to have people chime in on what applications they are using on their WM6 Athena.
Try and let us know whether it is a Game or Application, Freeware or Purchased, and if you can, provide a link.
Hopefully we can all help each other get the most out of these fantastic multi-purpose devices.
I will start.
RealVGA - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=327830
First off, I love the huge VGA screen so my first search was for a great Resolution modification utility to get the most out of my screen real estate.
I have to hand it to Tobias, he has done a fantastic job with this one. Thanks a lot!
After screen res comes my necessary info:
HTC Home - Can't remember exactly where I got it, but it was from here somewhere.
eWallet - http://www.iliumsoft.com/site/ew/ewallet.php I love the way this application syncronizes my information with my desktop and lets me divide into categories for easy retreival
ListPro - http://www.iliumsoft.com/site/lp/listpro.php - Another great app from these guys. I am very project oriented, and this application lets me create my own types of lists and then syncs them with my desktop.
Mobipocket -http://www.mobipocket.com/en/DownloadSoft/default.asp?Language=EN - Still the best IMHO for reading all the books I want to read (that aren't PDFs).
wmIRC - http://wmirc.com/ A great IRC app!
TCPMP - http://tcpmp.corecodec.org/ Simply the best media player for our platform IMHO
What I am looking for:
A good Financial Program that Syncs with MS Money - I am trying Ultrasoft Money... I'll let you know how it goes.
Good Memory and Tweak Utilities - Have always loved Pocket Mechanic, but the graphics are horrible on the screen with RealVGA - looking at MemMaid
GAMES - I really want some good puzzle games! anyone that has any suggestions, please let me know!
Look forward to seeing what others have on their devices... Let me know!

My X7501 Apps...
Here are my apps... All are commercial unless otherwise noted.
AnywhereMap (aviation GPS moving map/navigation)
FlexWallet 2006 (personal data manager)
Mapopolis (backup to TeleNav when no data connection is available) Free but maps cost. Now defunct.
M$ Remote Desktop for running my server/PC from the X7501 (free CABs here)
Skype (VoIP calls/chats) Free
Spb Backup (backup/restore)
TCPMP (Swiss Army knife media player) Free
TeleNav (subscription GPS navigation; simply the best IMHO)
TheSky Pocket Edition (for the astronomy geek in me)
YaRPNcalc (RPN calculator for the HP geek in me) Free
Sorry for no links; Google is your friend...
OziExplorerCE - moving map application
CorePlayer - much better that TCPMP for only 25 bucks
Tomtom 6.030 with WWE maps
Blackberry Connect version 2 - my corporate push-mail system
GenGisCad - An AutoCad files viewer
Google Maps - Now it works with internal GPS
MemMaid - Quite dangerous tunning program for your PDA
pPod - A program that simulates a iPod in your PDA. Difficult to find because Apple put its makers into Court. Better used in portraid since in landscape mode some important key is left outside of the screen. (drop me a private msg with an email address if someone want it)
psShutXP - A program to reset/shutdown/shut screen the PDA
PHM RegEdit - Must have if you need to access the registry
VisualGPSce - Simple GPS application. Just show you information about GPS
WM5torage 1.73 - To use your Microdrive or MiniSD as a USB key. Use 1.73 don't install 1.75 yet since this new one has some bugs on it.
PPCFinder - What do you do if you need to find a file in your PDA? Running this program. Very useful when I need to find a missing DLL or EXE file.
Pencilbox - a program for my daugther to draw on the PDA. Great for your children.
pPod
