Hi all
I was desperate to get my universal (XDA exec) connected to my wireless network so installed the DJVW_HTC_Wizard_Optimizer_2_1_.0.cab file from the other wizard thread, soft resetted and it now conencts to my wireless g network where as before I could see the network but it would never connect so it is good on that front but....
Obviously I should have just edited the registry on my universal somewhere to get g working as that CapNotify.exe part is now giving me an error after restarting :-( - I get:
The file 'CapNotify' cannot be opened. Either is is not signed with a trusted certificate or one of its components cannot be found. You might need to reinstall or restore this file"
Any ideas how I can lose this but keep my new g wireless ability?
Cheers in advance!
Just to say I deleted that complete registry key for CapsNotify and did a clean up with pocketmechanic and all is working fine after soft resetting and I am on my g network getting 600K+ speeds so am happy.
Cheers
The Universal only has an 802.11b radio I thought
Well I could see my g only network before and no matter what settings (54g-Auto, 54gLRS, 54g only) I tried I couldn't connect but now I can connect and surf brilliantly using either 54g-auto or 54glrs but after changing my router to g only it will not connect so it has definitly changed something but maybe I was hasty to say is now 54g - my bad
RE
Sorry,
But which software you use on your Universal to see the speed of WiFi?
Thanks
I just loaded up http://text.deslreports.com and clicked speed test
I used the cab for Wizzard but I didn't see any change. I set my WiFi router in g mode only and I cannot Connect now...
wireless G
I also was under the impression that the HTC Universal was only capable of wireless 802.11b....Can it do G?
http://text.dslreports.com
Ooo, my out of the box says 250kbit/sec, that can't be right surely!?
No it won't be! If you're connected to a wireless network then it's giving you the speed of the connection ebtween the wireless network and the outside world. HOWEVER... if you're using GPRS or UMTS then WOW!
I measured about 900kbps using a PC on the same wireless network on this site, so I'm not 100% convinced it isn't measuring SOMETHING useful since the numbers are wildly different (compared to 250kpbs on the Exec).
If I went to the speed test on adslguide.org.uk I saw 1878kbps downstream on my PC (which is roughly what I expect)....can't test from Exec as I don't have a browser that can run Java (I don't think?).
I think its just a flakey calculation.
I'm wondering if there's help beyond those who travel down into the wizard forums about wifi on my device.
I have a Cingular 8125 flashed with Summiter's AKU2.3 Test2 rom. This has the 2.25.11 Cingular radio version installed, and I'm having wifi issues. My questions are as follows:
Does the radio version have anything/everything to do with the performance of wifi in the Cingular 8125?
Are there additional tests that I can see where the hangup is getting my device to work with a belkin pre-n router model F5D8230-4; Firmware Version 1.01.03.
Problem: My 8125 will not connect to a belkin pre-n router. It shows the network is available, it attempts to cnnect, then after about 5-7 seconds, it either says its unavailable for a few seconds, or it says the network is available but doesn't complete its connection. I've tried connecting to the router on all performance settings for wifi on my device, same behavior continues.
It WILL connect to a Linksys SRX 100 router, but performance is erratic. If I let it sit too long, it will timeout, and never get new data from websurfing... instead I have to disable the wifi, re-enable it, and get it to reconnect to the router, then wifi works again. It works for varing lengths of time, typically when I don't let it idle, it keeps the connection.
I'm unsure what will fix this problem. The radio in the original test AKU2.3 by summiter did the same thing as the newer radio packed in test2 - which is the radio version called 2.25.11 i believe.
Best hopes to a few chaps who can help me out here.
I did have Sum Sum installed, which related to the 802.11g registry mod, I've also tried removing that and still same performance. Any help?
WiFi issues after AKU2.3 upgrade
Hey mengesb,
I was just wondering... is your router a 802.11b or 802.11g?
I managed to connect to a computer using Internet Connection Sharing(ICF) on a g-wireless card, but I can not connect to a b-router. The logs on my router say the phone repeatedly managed to connect.
I had been connecting to both these setups everyday before I did the upgrade.
Hopefully this may help break down the problem.
The wireless router that I have the biggest issue with is a Belkin Pre-N router, so technically its 802.11g
Hey Mengesb,
I found an article on 4winmobile.com that might help solve your problem.
Here is what they say about pre-N routers:
One caveat for those using their HTC Prodigy with Belkin Pre-N Routers: You must update the Router firmware to V1.01.03 (available from the Belkin Download Page ). This is not necessary for the HTC Universal (O2 Exec, iMate Jasjar etc) which uses a different hardware WiFi system.
Unfortunately the updated Belkin firmware will not connect to the XDA IIi or XDA IIs, so if you own one of these and a MiniS, you will need to choose which one will be able to connect.

I also found out that that I had to reboot my router (Dlink DI614+ 802.11b) everytime I try to connect with my Wizard because even after disconnecting, the router still has the wizard registered as connected.
Hope that helps.

I'll check this out at my earliest convience but we'll see what happens. From what the router says - there's no newer firmware that is needed for the router. I'll see if this one is compatible, but the lat time I firmwared their router, heh, i nuked it - wrong firmware (pictures were SO the same!) anyway... they got this as a replacement.
Wifi disconnect
Having exact same issue as mengesb with WiFi disconnecting after 5-15 seconds (seems to hang on longer while I'm actively using WiFI, but disconnects nevertheless). I'm using the official download from HTC website
ROM 2.25.11.1 WWE
Date 5/6/06
Radio 02.25.11
Did a Hard Reset with no change in behavior. I'm using 802.11g (linksys WRV54G v2.37 firmware) and I had no WiFi issues using old original ROM (1.something) that I got with my Cingular 8125. When Wifi disconnects, the phone dutifully connects to EDGE/GPRS correctly and works fine, but slowly of course, through GPRS.
I've tried both answers to "My Network connects to ..." (Work vs Internet)
I've tried turning off cell radio (flight mode; then WiFi turned On)
Hmmmmph ...
try with the 802.11e QoS > setting in OFF in the Pre N settings, I did that and it worked!!!
im having the same exact issue with my new rom, the old one worked gread with my D-link 614 +, now it sees it but i wont connect unless you reset the router. Does anyone have any solution for this?
thanks
I reflashed my belkin today to the same firmware, and my mda couldnt connect (wizard 200). Disabling 802.11e did work, which implies that there is a bug in the mda with handling of 802.11e.
It may be worth noting this somewhere else as well since it may be that more APs will fail when 802.11e is enabled.
I have a SPV M3100 and am trying to use it as a wireless Bluetooth modem however there is no Wireless Modem app in Programs -> Accessories.
Any ideas why ??!
It's in mine...I'm using it now to access this site on my laptop.
No idea why it should be missing though. Have you been messing around with the ROM? Updating it maybe to one that does not have it.
You can get the lastest ROM from www.orange.co.uk/business - maybe if you update with this you will get the wireless modem app back.
hey I've searched pretty much everywhere and I can't find a solution, Got K-jam Rom 2.16.9.1, apart from not being able to find a better Rom, I can't fix my wifi issues, weak signal - struggles to connect and usually gives an error stating that it couldn't assign IP adress. ok so far I've put wifi setting to full performance and placed a registry hack, but nothing changed. assigning my own IP I haven't tried cause I don't know how to do it! anyhow I know this wifi problem is old, but perhaps there is a solution out there!
anyone come across a solution ?
Try to update the Radio ROM.
I'm having this same problem and I can't figure out how to fix it.
I'll try connecting to wifi at home and work and it'll say it's connecting but never actually connects, and then an error message will come up saying "cannot obtain a server assigned IP address"
and I've already updated my Radio to the 2.19.11 version. I also tried changing the access point name from "wap.voicestream.com" to "internet2.voicestream.com" and that didn't work either.
Please help!
ah dude if your using t-mobile, then u have to get 2.69, works best
If you have T-Mobile and you're having this problem it's because you can't use the proxy while you're connected to wifi. You have to go in to connection settings and remove the check from the use proxy checkbox.

i just checked the proxy setting and it actually wasnt checked...but im at my friends house and the wifi is actually working. i guess it just doesnt work at home and work haha.
If it works at your friends house and not at home or work, is your network protected? Did you supply it with the keys if it is?

Yeah at home my network is password protection and I do have the key, but still doesn't work :*(
The one I connected to earlier was an unsecure network, btw.
Ref: Wifi - New Rom
I have i Mate K-Jam with ROM 2.16.9.1 WWE. Post that I have upgraded Radio Rom to 2.47.11 which is available on XDA ftp site and it works well with 64 and 128 bit WEP key and over Wireless Access Points which are G or B standard.

It sounds like you may be using the wrong type of security on the network. Log in to the network with a laptop and then check the security settings. I generally use WPA-Personal with TKIP. However there are several other possibilities. My WIZA100 works fine with my g-54 set to TKIP.

I admit that I am somewhat unaware of some of the workings on the Wiz. However, I thought that the Radio Rom was only for the GSM functions. Does the ROM also include the Wireless Radio functions?

I'm having an odd problem with my Sprint Mogul wi-fi. I can connect to the network at my office using wi-fi, but I can't use the Internet. I'm guessing it's because the wi-fi router is being used as just an access point, and a server is acting as the router for the entire office. I know it's not the wi-fi, as I can connect at home and use the internet without problems. I'm thinking it could be the ROM, because I didnt have this problem when using dcd's ROM (currently using Sprint ROM because I had to take it in for a new battery). This isn't a common problem, but is there a solution that allows me to stick with the Sprint ROM, or will I have to switch to dcd's ROM to get this to work? Thanks in advance.
