miniSD programs - no icon in start menu - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

I've asked this question before, but I never got a definitive answer, so I thought I would ask again...
When I install programs to my miniSD card, they don't show up as having icons in my start menu. How can I get around this?

Do you mean the icons of the seven most often used programs in the start menu or the icons in the start menu / programs. I assume the former. I had a similar problem where the icons would come and go - only of the programs stored on the storage card. I assume there's a delay in icon cache of those on the storage card and so they don't show after you boot up. I don't know if this is fixed on the newer roms and you did not mention which rom you use. I have any program that's in that seven on the start menu installed to the main memory and there is no icon problem. Hope this helps

Can't change start menu items

I can't change the start menu items, I can't add shortcuts or remove shortcuts to and from start menu...I mean, the changes from editing menus did not appears immediately in start menu...
It needs soft reset to refresh the start menu...strange...
This is really weird!!! :?
for me, when I change the menu items, the changes are reflected immediately!!!
What ROM version you have?
When I hard reset my xda2, the problem was gone...but after installing many2 apps,it happens again...dunno which apps cause the problem though...my rom is 1.60.00
This also happened to me too!!!!
I think the problem is that there is a limit to the number of icons that you can have in the start menu. Adding any further shortcuts after this limit has been reached will have no effect!
I don't think so...Because I have only 5 items on my start menu...
and, I found any other problem too...the new installed apps doesn't display the shortcut in Programs Folder (start>programs), It needs soft reset to refresh the programs folder, or you can simply enter games folder and go to programs folder again to refresh it...
Gotcha!! I have found the answer for this problem...the start menu freezed and need a soft reset to refresh it when you use a theme that not fully compatible with WM2003...just use the theme that fully support WM2003 and the problems gone!

missing icon in start menu

Hi,
I'm having a reoccuring problem with icons in my start menu list and am looking for help.
Any program stored on the SD Card losses the icon in the start menu every soft reset and I'm wondering if there is a way of preventing this as at the moment I go to Menus and tick then untick each program which is a real pain.
thanks in advance
That happened to me a few times but not regularly, maybe 1-2 times out of every 100 soft resets...it could be to do with the utilization of the CPU at startup following a soft reset causing your device to access your SD card slower than usual (only happens once at startup). Anyway I could be wrong. It only happens at startup, after that even if the icons are blank, you can still run those applications off the sd card by clicking on the black icons.
Check programs and services that are running at startup. I use MemMaid to do that and stop certain programs from running at startup. Also it could be caused by the today plugins.
Another test you want to do is to use another sd card, copy everything from your current sd card to a new one and use that instead. See if the problem persist..could just be a failing sd card.
hey, your question actually solved a problem which I couldn't figure out before.
Everytime after I do a soft reset, it takes 3-5 seconds for the menu to show up when I click on the start menu icon. It turns that because I regularly run a lot of programs off the sd card, it is recorded in the start menu history. So the 3-5 seconds is actually for the device to verify that those program in the history section do exist. If exist, the proper icons are shown otherwise blank icons will be shown instead.
Now I'm forced to use 2 sd cards...one is already 60% full with apps, mp3s, videos and the other is primarily used for storing temporary dvds. When I soft reset my device to use the DVD movies card, the start menu launches very quickly, whereas if I use the apps sd card, the start menu launches with a 3-5 sec delay.

Random "missing shortcuts" in start memu

I noticed this the other day and it happened again today on my 2 day old 8125.
Everything is going great, and then after some time some of my shortcuts in my start menu just up and vanish. For example, my calculator is no longer in the start menu. It's still in my windows folder, and I can still use the calculator, but my shortcut to it is missing. Therefor, to start the program I need to use the file explorer to navigate to the windows folder and launch it from there (or, of course, copy the file and create a new shortcut to bring it back to the start menu).
Same goes for about 7 other applications (about 1/3) of what I have installed. They're on my device (and some on the SD card), but their shortcuts from the start menu have simply vanished. Any ideas?
This has happened to me as well. Cant find Pocket IE or Calculator! :?
Maybe we can figure out why this is happening. It's probably a third party app bug or something.
I don't remember about the first time it happened, but the 2nd time it happened I noticed some (not all) of the links in my "app" section of iLauncher were missing. Those missing from iLauncher were also missing in my start menu. The other programs in the different tabs in iLauncher were fine. I only had this problem with 1 section of iLauncher which makes me think iLauncher may have caused this issue. Do you have iLauncher installed?
total noob
Hi Guitarlp,
Sorr to be such a noob but how can i find out if i have ILauncher installed?
You don't then. It's a 3rd part app from SBSH.

GSPocketMagic++ configuration.

Hi, first off im new to the XDA EXEC so be gentle , I've already unlocked and updated the device and now I'm just getting use to customizing it.
I've installed GSPocketMagic and although i can get it running theres a few things im unsure of.
1. it seems to slow the boot up of the device considerably, don't know why or if that might be some remnance of O2 stuff kicking around on the device.
2. The icons don't seem to blend into the themes properly. For instance the close buttons seem to be of a different colour and you can easily see that. On the main today screen when no apps are running I have an obvious discoloured sqaure in the top right hand corner. I'm guessing this might have something to do with the bmp pallettes for the images? anyone done anything about this?
3. Skining the menu , on the download site is shows its possible but i've had no luck.
it looks like a good app but its just not reaching what i need any ideas on how to configure it properly as so far from what i've seen theres limited information on it and i've not found any translations etc.

Goto Start menu > Option > Setting... and and "play" with the settings of GSPocketMagic++
Cheers
i've had a play with the settings already and could really find what I was looking for the most i've managed to do is change the startup menu button to an image but it didn't resolve the fact that the button images for say close are off colour (even if you install the VGA xscale version (as i stated before).
Also I can't see how you skin the menu so it'd look similar to that of the existing menu bar (just for continuity of the plug in). Then finally theres the fact on boot its terribly slow to start up with this addition (or so it seems). However its still a vanillia(ish) device so i could be som O2 crap kicking around that i haven't removed yet?
dunno..hence the thread.
Smallmenu and GSPocketMagic will take quite a while to generate the icon cache on first launch. Just let it do it. It doesn't do it again after the first launch unless you manually refresh. It takes about 30 seconds for me.
V
If you goto Goto Start menu > Option > Setting... and directly close de Setting page it wil refresh the cache again. You can time it how log it takes. I have about 30 shortcuts in the menu (which I pointed to \windows\start menu\programs and not the standard folder), also to the SD card, and it takes about 4 to 5 secs to refresh it.
installing GSPocketMagic
Hello downloaded it
How do I install it on the Exec
Thx.
Tim
lol
is there an update 2 this? where can i find skins?

Missing icons in start menu

I have a couple of programs where the icons on the start menu show up as the little blank window instead of the icon that is supposed to be there....What do I need to do to resolve this issue?
icons
did you, by any chance change the location of the applications?
do you have programs installed on to your memory card? if so, check to make sure that the memory card is properly plugged in, since it may be missing the necessary icon files that have been installed there.

What are the programs in the start menu that are missing icons?
I haven't changed the location of the programs and they were installed onto my SD card which is securely in place. The icons that don't show up are Lexi-Comp and Sanford Guide, both pharmacy related programs that I use at work

Go to Start/Settings/Personal Tab (bottom)/Menus. Find your programs listed, and simply put a check mark in the box next to the programs. This should fix the icon issue. Or just copy the files from your SD card to Windows/Start Menu.
