I find it so annyoing after using messenger , outlook , calender i hit the X in the top right corner but the programs are still running and the XDA slows down!
I then have to go into taskmanager to end the tasks on the applications. Is there anyway so when i tap X it actually closes the application completly.?!?!?
Have a look at at Wisbar which closes programs fully when you hit it's x and also skins your Pocket Pc really nicely:
Wisbar
Alternatively, check out MagicButton which closes apps properly. You can set some to stay open in the background, and it provides a nice battery monitor too.
Cheers,
Steve.
take a look a VBar
Manages tasks like Wisbar but its free and incredibly small and lightweight.
I've been using it on my Exec for two months with no hiccups, and on a Jam for a year before that.

Why dont my programs close when I press the X at the top right? This is very annoying. I have to go to my running programs and close them manually, grrr. Anyway, is there a way to change the default behaviour so that the programs do close? Or is there a utility to do so?
Thanks
Allan
it's always been that way with pocketpc / windows ce
it's ment to be that way
pocket plus let you do it different but with some applications it mess up pretty bad if they are closed like that
like if you write an sms and send it and then close outlook before the sms is sendt 100%
Use Tascal Close all application from this site.
http://www2r.biglobe.ne.jp/~tascal/download/pocketpc/index_e.htm
Dear "allanmb", try spb Pocket Plus 2.0 or 2.1, it has the "close" button feature, in addition to other useful features, like:
Today plug-in.
Short cuts to programs
Drag-and-drop in Today plug-in
Saving webpages and pictures in PIE
New window support in PIE.
Taskbar battery indicator (in the top)!
Extended themes
Storage card formatting
ZIP support.
"Folder Up" button added.
And other features.
Any way, it is a good tool.
Another good software that has this feature, is Battery PackPro from Omega One, it has alos "close" button features, Today Plug In, Battery indicator (nice one)!, and other features as well!
Both are good.
Wizbar advance also allow program closure
Hello,
Another program I use a lot is Wizbar advance currently at v. 1.3.2.2 from Lakeridge software (it's freeware).
It's also skinnable, shows battery/ memory in top bar etc.
If you do choose to use it though, watch out for it hiding your notifications eg. sms etc. - it only shows a static notification icon. I would recommend PocketZenPhone running along side it. (Also freeware, available in these forums). PZP allows profiles like the nokia phones for meeting, silent, pager etc., but also allows huge customisation of the phone within these profiles - including changing the way the leds flash when there is a sms or message waiting!
PS - There should be a wizbar advance for phone edition PPC soon, and they are currently beta testing wizbar advance version 2, so hopefully some of the issues will be cleared up.

Any suggestion for a good working Task Manager software?
THX so much!
I use Vidya Task Manager
Taskmanegement
I use the Wisbar Advence 2.4.1.9 beta from the forum. I like it.
I installed spb pocketplus 3.0 but it really slowed down my device. Resetting takes longer but also when answering an incoming call the device does not react for a couple of seconds so I am unable to answer the call during that time.
Anyone knows a lightweight 'real close button' application?
pocket plus - which version for universal ?
Hello, - which version of pocket plus you have managed to install? the only one which is working for me is 3006 beta. Official release does not want to install on the universal.
Re: Taskmanegement
@rilot
I have tried it too...but what about battery usage? Does it drain battery?
I have noticed that task manager applications, unfortunately, don't have any effect on "Ok" keyborad bottun functionality. So that you have always to use on screen command to close applications in background. Can You confirm this for Vidya Task Manager o does it improve "Ok" keyborad bottun functionality too ?
Ahhh. I thought you meant a task manager like Windows Task manager that shows all running processes.
For closing things using the OK button or the cross I use SPB Pocket Plus 3.0.
I stoppe SPB Beta 3 WM5
It slowed the phone way down, and was partly repsonsible for the Skype issues. It is deciving though because it seems to work at first look, but it is filled with Bugs. I am looking for another solution too.

ok but also Vidya Task Manager can close things...but have you verified if it acts on ok keyboard button too? I mean that if you push ok button to close an applications does it stay in background or does is it close it?

Version 3.something, I had no problems with the install. and the close button really closed the applications but the side-effects were not acceptable.
Alternatives please..
Does Vidya Task Manager adds 'real close' functionality to the X button (i don;t see it mentioned in the feature list)?

No, it's just a task manager.
MagicButton is quite good if you just want a close button and a simple task manager. It doesn't look quite right on WM5 but works just the same.

You're right; "It matches perfectly with the current theme." does not apply anymore but at least it does the job. Thanks for the tip. Btw, how many OS versions more before this comes standard integrated? Ever since my first Pocket PC this (real close button app) is always the first app I install. I just don't see the added value of keeping programs active in the background especially on devices with small footprints where memory must be used wisely, imagine Windows XP minimizing everything you 'close', makes no sense right?
re
well for a freebe magic button is OK but if I do a soft reset it doesn't reload itself, and i see no options to switch it to open on soft reset.
Any ideas ?

I didn't had this problem until today, I added the Memory monitors on Pocket Plus, and everythime I powered up my JasJar I had to wait 3 sec in order to use it, the same for calls, I removed
Memory Indicator
Storage Card 1 Indicator
Storage Indicator
Everything worked again.
Actually I am extremly pleased with SPB3
MagicButton is good, but it has a serious bug where eventually it will stop working and you can't close any open folders to get back to your Today screen - you have to reboot. They knew about it for a year now, but they never fixed it - unless they did so in the last month or so.
HandySwitcher is also great, but I noticed it doesn't always close the app, it just minimizes it. In the setup, the default is to tap on minimize, tap and hold to close. I always set it to do the reverse, tap->close, tap and hold->minimize. But I found that tapping did not close all the time, it just minimized it. If I went to memory manager and looked, the app was still running. I'd try again, still doesn't close. A third time, it finally does. Then I'd try the same test, it would close on the first try. Test again, the fourth try it closed. It was completely random. I don't think HandySwitcher is 100% compatible yet.
Hello,
I'm looking for a Task Manager which would allow me to shut down easily running applications without going to the Memory>Running Programs.
What are you using?
Waiting for your feedback.
Thanks.

there is a task switcher in SPB Plust software BUT READ the threads first as it can crash your device if you leave the safe mode utility running..
Hi,
I'm using "Magic button" on my K-JAM, it's light very functionally and free!!
It does not slow down the system and offer to you the ability to choose how many icons to show on the bar (today icon also) or to switch to classic bar simply tapping and hold the x icon.
Before I used wishbar, but due to the incompatibility with WM5 (for now) switched to it and was amazed by the lightness of the prg in memory.
If you want you can try it at www.trancreative.com
Please let me know what do you think about
Update: (from Trancreative site)
Very small foot print (memory usage). Only 71 KB executable file does it all (help file is 8 KB extra).
Cheers

pksmania: if you want very basic functionality, check out my app VJOKButt. It emulates the Ok button (top right), but can be used to close apps instead of minimising them. You don't get a task list menu etc (yet, but eventually I'll incorporate something like this maybe). But assign it to a hardware button and it's much quicker then taking out a stylus just to close an app.

I use vBar..
And I have Safe Mode from SPB PP switched on and it works fine..

Simply great vijay555 this is really the lightness way to switch off prg.. 8)

I've spent the last few days learning TAPI so that the next version of VJOkButt can be used to replace the red key. Then it will hangup the phone if you're in a call, or otherwise close apps as we do now. So you don't lose a hardware key, you improve it. I hope! Next version hopefully coming quite soon.

I'll keep it short: I'm a young Qtek9000 enthousiast and make a living programming regular Windows-applications. In my spare time I'm looking into programming for WM5 and liking it. I'm working on a small/lightweight Bluetooth (Bluejack/snarf) progam, but what kind of program or utility do you miss? By no means do I want to make another SPB Pocket Plus or Resco File Explorer, but what 'small' program/utility do you want?
In advance thanks for your effort.
Cheers
Emmerman
hmm, maybe an SIP changer.
i really need an app that will toggle through 2 selected SIPs, which i'll assign a keyboard button to.
the only need is the SIP switcher itself, the button mapping will be used conviniently through PQz.
thanx for the effort
task manager, that sits in the top toolbar (where start menu and clock are). tap it, and the bubble thing appears with all the running programs.
Call blocker is what I miss. There is one on the internet, but when I try it, it says "beta expired". Any help?
Yahoo Messenger... the msngr in yahoo go sucks.... and agile is charging already..

That sounds like Vbar (free & good).
Gotta say, even if it isn't a small project, a decent multi-client IM app has to be the rarest of all WM5 compatible apps. Everything out there is pretty much garbage, except Agile which has decided you can only "rent" their app.
ZX Spectrum emulator. And I miss it a lot!
Sadly I don't have the knowledge to make this but maybe some one can make this.
legend: RS - right soft key
---
Main display of the panel should say how much Ram is left and how much space in ROM and maybe even SD card. Taping this panel will launch either the panel's customizer or the task manager. The RS for the main screen is to close all programs.
Swiping left or right will take you to an alphabetical or by memory usage order of programs. The RS for them will be to close that program. Tapping the panel will switch to that program.

So who thinks this would be useful to have on your 6.5 today screen??
That would be cool. But are the active programs stored somewhere in the registry?
+1. This would be very nice.
+1 i'd love to see that!
Just as a point of interest....I'm using magic button as a task manager. It works quite well......aesthetically speaking it's a disaster....but...
+1 Yeah, very good idea.
Although probably... titanium plug-in devs will only start showing up once WM6.5 goes official.
