Pocket excel zoom fix - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Someone was asking for a tweak for excel a while back - not sure if here or another forum.
Like me most of you have probably increased the default screen font size for better readability. When you use excel after the boxes and fonts are too big and you have to always zoom down to 75%. Could not find a fix to set default zoom to 75% so made a new template - normal.xlt.
Put it in the my documents/templates/ folder and change default template in excel options to this on and voila all is good when you start a new document. If you want to sort old documents out just change cell size when all selected.
Hope this helps

Just read that in WM2003 this was not a problem - the file saved at the zoom setting you set it, and apparently WM5 has a bug so does not do this - anyone with a later ROM can they report if this is fixed. ta

Updated template - cell size is same as the default one - but if you use opens up as if 75% zoom.

...it doesn't work on my XDA Neo

Can you describe what you did and I will see if I can help. Also useful to know if you have any xlt files in your my documents\templates folder.

There where no .xlt files in templates (my Documents\vorlagen) i tried to copy the files by pc and to unpack them on ppc; I also tried saving my own .xlt after resizing it to 75% zoom...

Did you change template in excel\options\template for new workbook?

Yes I did!
The Standard is 'leere Arbeitsmappe' I changed it to normal.xlt
By unpacking the .xlt one gets overwritten by the other, so I zipped the file >0 byte

What happens if you change template to vehicle mileage log - prob auto.... for yourself. That template has zoom fix already.

...there's no difference at all!

Have you tried both the templates posted - 1st one is with a different cell size and second saving with 75% zoom. When you are using these templates the cell size will shrink on the screen and when you check under view\zoom it will say 100% even when it is less.
If the zoom change does not work then possible cell size change will.

it doesn't work too
maybe I have to live with that
It's not a bug, it's a feature

i have a 2 questions
1. how to change the template settings in the excel
2. is these templates for the new files only or will apply to the old files.

1. Open excel, goto menu\options and change template to normal
2. No does not change old files But if you set zoom to 75% and save file it will be the same

it works for new files only, but does not save the zoom for old files... thanks anyway

I tried to open the attached zip file, it seems to be corrupt. I'm getting the WinZip message: "Can't open file: it does not appear to be a valid archive."
Can anyone please check and repost the attachment? or is there something I'm doing wrong?

Pocket ie try to save jpg instead of displaying them

Hi,
I'm sure there is somebody here that can help me. I've set up my SPV M5000 with some old programs, and they certainly messed up with the registry about file associations.
I can display jpg normaly, but if I try to see a jpg file (ie not embeded into a web page), I get the file save dialog. At first, it was registered to pimg.exe, and I tryed associating to to pocket painter for example, with no luck.
Anybody know the key to place to go back to a normal jpg displaying state for pocket ie?
TIA
I've the same problem.
Mine is the same but I've installed nothing that would affect the file associations...
I think perhaps it's just another of the joyful 'features' of Microsoft's wonderful Pocket Internet Explorer
Does it do the same with a gif or bmp?
V
That's exactly what I had on mine. I didn't get to the bottom of it, but instead did what vijay suggested and created a local html file with the jpg embedded. All I needed was to view a single jpg within PIE (from my webcam). This works fine, but is a workaround only for 1 jpg. I wouldn't want to do this for everything!
Surely one of the File Explorer tools can change the file associations?
I think the problem lies within PIE, when you click a pic it assumes its an attachment and so will save it,
I cant try atm but its worth trying to goto a pic directly ie,
http://www.website.com/picture.jpg
it may well display the image then, not sure, cant test atm. and its not going to be very useful when doing some normal browsing.
Same with Gif. I've teste on a K-Jam, and it display the picture properly in ie. I'm sure there is something messed up in registry
Found the solution
There is a CLSID value missing in HKCR/MIME/Database/Content Type/image/jpg and other gif and jpeg
Add a string value CLSID
{698E3FCA-70C3-11D0-81E8-00A0C90AD21A} and you are set.
@thaihugo
Won't work for me.
I've tried with PHM RegEdit but same behaviour as before.
Can you give us a screen shot of the correct registry key, please?
BTW:
There is another string "Image Filter CLSID" and
there is a "Bits"-key in /gif and /bmp and /jpeg but not in /jpg.
Are these needed too?
OK now it works.
What i've done is:
Created and copied the CLSID mentioned above into
image/bmp
image/gif
image/jpeg
image/jpg
image/pjeg
Copy the "Bits" from /jpeg to /jpg
Created a "Image Filter CLSID" in /jpg with the same content as found in /jpeg
Save, wait and Softreset. -> Works as intended!
I don´t know if i've done to much, but everything works now.
I'm happy. Thank you!
I though it was my programs that would delete this keys, but it seems you need to insert them also. Maybe it is a full system bug? A registry export might be of some help if some other report the same problem.
This still isn't quite working for me...
Can someone explain again EXACTLY what I have to do?
Hmm - interesting stuff - will have to try this.
I assume this isn't going to affect other JPG viewers, eg Opera???
I have the same problem on both Hima and Universal WM2006
Himalaya > TOFCLOCK HIMA WM6 AKU.0.7.0
Universal > Jwrightmcps 9000_WWE_21200_21207_11500
The registry solution proposed doesn't work for me, probably due a different CSLID. Any suggestion?
THX
Many thanks to CouchPotato
@CouchPotato
Thank youuuu, your step by step solution worked fine for me on BA (WM6)

Word Mobile "new file" open error

Hi y'all,
been tidying up my directories on the Xda mini (what a mess on the std install).
Since then I cannot open a new word document, comes back with "a problem with the document has been encountered and it cannot be opened"
I suspect I may have deleted a template file that Word uses when opening new doc's by mistake (maybe like the normal.dot in full blown word?)
Anyone know if this is the case, and if so what the file name would be?
Thanks
Paul.
You,ve probably deleted some templates in \my documents\templates on your device.
Find them all enclosed including a zoom fix for pocket excel - normal.xlt that gives excel 75% zoom if you use it as a template for your excel sheets.
next question....
Thanks Mark,
have downloaded the templates but Word is still not seeing them.
When I go "menu" - "options" the "defalt template" drop down is empty
Part of my original issue is the illogical structure of the directories on the device with what appears to be multiple instances of folders eg :\documents and setting\my documents as well as \my documents
Equally their are a number of "templates" folders around
Any suggestions on how I can alter where Word looks for the templates?
Paul.
The template that is like normal.dot is blank document.dot and if word is not seeing this you must of deleted something else. Are you sure you have placed the templates in the right place, so it should be on the device memory \my documents\templates\blank document.dot
If it is and still not working suggest you do a hard reset - but all is not lost if you don't want all the o2 extras that fill your device and slow it down once the hard reset is almost complete and the o2 stuff is just about to install do a quick soft reset and the extras wont be installed (be warned you have only 3 secs to do this)
Word Mobile templates
I cannot open this zip file which is suppose to contain template files for Word Mobile to work properly.
Attached Files
templates_434.zip (252.3 KB, 60 views)
I downloaded the zip and it opened just fine - what was the error you encountered? did you try unzip on pc and ppc.
If no joy - give me your email addy and i send them to you.
Word Mobile templates
I get an error from Winzip -- Cannot open file: It does not appear to be a valid archive. If you downloaded this file, try downloading it again." (I have, several times, and I tried opening the file instead of downloading it.)
Also, my issue is that WM6 Standard (smartphone) Word Mobile will not open Word files, but Excel Mobile and Power Point Mobile work fine.
I am running WM6 on a T-Mobile Dash.
The issue you discuss appears to be related to Pocket PCs, not Smartphones.
If you think they will help, please email the template files.

Is there anyway to hide an album(folder) from HTC album?

I'd like to set "all" as the favorite album in the TF3D photo tab so it just displays all the photos I've taken (I have about 100 pics separated by folder under \storage card\pictures\) The problem is when I do that it puts other pics like the icon's for Angelusz's landscape fix at the top of the thumbs list.
Is there a way to either hide certain album's(folder's) from HTC Album's view, or a way to make it only look at the storage card and not at the phone itself?
if you get an answer.... please repost!!!!
having same issue.
looking to not show in the 'albums' section a specific folder that has images in it.
and in the same token, making these (same) pics not be available through the 'see-all' feature.
trying to not have 'accidental' display of pics no need to make them "hidden-files" because then one wouldn't be able to view them when needing to.
can there be a limit set to the viewer and how 'deep' it searches for images? maybe they can be placed in a series of sub-folders that are so many deep, that the viewer does not look for....?
yeah this is a big problem if you have tomtom because it loads all of those pics

The simplest solution is to change the properties to hiddend for the image files you do not want to see in the tab.
There is also a reg patch to exclude particular folders but i dont know the details

If anyone has more information on this reg patch, I'd like to know more.
Also as Angelusz pointed out to me in another thread the HTCAlbum doesn't search the windows directory, so I've been dumping wallpapers ect. in there whenever I can. The big downside to this is the amount of time it takes the X1 to load the windows directory, especially when your trying out several wallpapers.
Key
HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCAlbum\Ignored
(if ignored doesn't exist: create it)
Make a new String Value and give it any name
example: igo
set the Data for the new value to the full path of the folder to be ignored
example: \Storage Card\iGO8
(note: all sub-folders will be ignored as well)

Great, thanks for the tip!

Thanks for the info! But there is an issue
Hello -
i tried your suggestion, but it didn't quite work.
i have the HTC fuze -
i created a folder in the storage card called ddd, then went to the registry and followed your suggestion, but when i go to the camera, and select the soft-key for albums, there are some options called "all" and "camera shots" that still reveal the contents of the whole phone. and the folders that contain the images that are to be kept away from accidental viewing, are already located on that folder 'ddd' on the storage card. how do i delete the "all"/"camera shots" feature form the album viewer, or better yet, how do i keep some pictures from coming up in their individual folders in the same viewer.
sorry to be a pest, but if there's anywhere else to get good info on this matter...it'd be here.
thanks for the help!!
works for me, thanks

I can Chose storage location either to save pictures on Phone memory or storage card . But even when i chose storage card the camera application makes a DCIM folder in storage card and save pictures and videos there .What i need is a cab or a registry tweak to save picture in storage card/My Documents/My pictures and videos in Storage card /My Documents/My Videos directory . as in our old Kaiser days a program named Advance configration tools3.3 can change these settings but this program cant change it in HD2 .It shows the path is changed but the camera still save it to the Storagecard/DCIM directory .
Plz help. Nobody knows how to do it .....?

cmon guys, use the search functions. heres a thread from.....yesterday with an answer

Actually your help yesterday let me adjust the settings back to the original default options (so my pictures again at least showed up in the Sense pictures tab).
What I was originally trying to do by playing around with all of the registry settings was what all these people are asking.
I was trying to set the default folder for pictures taken with the camera as anything other than \Storage Card\DCIM.
There appears to be no way to overwrite this setting.

It never ceases to amaze me how rude people can be when some of us ask simple questions.
I'm sure HE DID search for an answer, but found none, and your reply was wrong. There was NOT an answer on THAT thread.
I read THAT thread and the question is still "up in the air."
As far as I can see, making any changes in the registry is futile with regard to camera image storage location. I've tried them all, including the ones referenced in THAT thread noted above (WRONG!). None work! The pictures STILL get stored in a DCIM folder on the storage card.
So, even I am still waiting for a solution. Oh well.

Is there anyone out there that still has this problem, or even knows how to fix it?
I've changed enableDCIM to 0
Changed HKLM\system\pictures\camera\OEM\picturelocation
to "\my documents\my pictures"
A registry search for DCIM turns up one result, the enable DCIM setting....
All locations that I've checked refer to the "My Pictures" folder.
I've created the folder in my documents, and in the storage card top level, deleted the DCIM folder, restarted the phone and STILL, when taking a picture it goes to DCIM.... Does anyone know if theres a file somewhere where this is stored?? I'm going insane with having to move my pictures from one folder to another all the time...
Ta in advance

I had the TP2 before and I was able to just use advanced config to put my pics in to my pictures, and, easily view them from the sense tab, further more, I was able to have the pics named with the date and time, so I would not be over writing any pics after a flash.
I to have fought with this for a couple of weeks and finally just gave up and am currently using the DCIM folder to store my pics.
With my TP2, it worked great, it has to do with the actual camera app, on HD2, you can select your store location from there, TP2 camera app has no option of where to store, it is all handled with registry/advanced config.
Good luck, but I don't think there is a solution to this currently.
Jeff
Yeah it's odd that there's all these registry entries, but they seem to do nada...
Hi, firstly, sorry for my abruptness earlier in the thread.
I hadn't looked in to the problem, and i was assuming that what was true for other devices was true for us.
So, i had a look at it this evening, (tho im no tech, im kinda flying blind with hex editing) an as expected the save path is hard coded.
Get Camera.exe
Not sure whether you can extract it from the phones windows folder, I got mine from within a
kitchen.
Disable read only file attribute
Open it up in a hex editor and find
line 596,350 (hex 0009197e) or there abouts, and change DCIM to Pics
see two images, (ignore the fact the line number changed in pic2, )
Save Camera.exe, and copy it to your phone, overwrite the Camera.exe in your phones
/Windows/
folder. You might need to use something more than the default file manager, I used resco.
Or you could use a cab to install it.
Next time you take a pic it will save it to Pics/100Media
Notice that Pics is 4 letters like DCIM so the file size stays the same.
When i tried to insert data to call the folder SamsPics, camera.exe failed to load.
I also changed the two registry entries
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Pictures\Camera\OEM\PictureLocation changed from \DCIM\ to \Pics\
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Camera\General EnableDCIM to 0
however i didnt do tests between each change, so not sure if they do anything.
(update, i forgot to check at the time and i just flashed back to default so can't check, but i think one of teh flashes I had it working with the Pics path without changing those two reg entries, just the hex editing, so try it without first,.)
To fix manila photo tab showing no images found,
take a pic to make sure folder has been created
then from pics tab
albums - albums - select album probably called 100media
then
menu - set album as favourite
For the prefix IMAG I couldn't find how to change it, other than it pics up from the last IMAGxxx name in the target folder.
There is a section in the camera.exe where the code contains the string \DCIM\100Media around code line 675,954 but changing that seemed to have no effect.
So all in all, not too usefull, can only change to 4 letter folders, cant change prefix, cant get rid of 100media folder, but a step in the right direction., unless someone knows how to replace camera.exe in my kitchen with one of a different file size (or maybe how to trim space from elsewhere to leave the same filesize? I'm new to hex editing, but would love to learn more about hacking files like this, if anyone has any pointers)

I was able to change it to save to the Pictures folder without any problem. I did it on my first try, so I don't know that I even have the error... But what I did was over write the DCIM and 100Media with Pictures; then I 00'd what was left of the 100Media. Same file size, works like a charm. It got rid of the 100Media folder too. My hex structure was weird tho; D C I M (in hex; there was a 00 inbetween each letter). I just followed that format;
\ D C I M \ 1 0 0 M e d i a
overwritten
\ P i c t u r e s M e d i a
then replace each hex value corresponding to the letters in media with 00 (note that the space button in hex is 20, not 00)
\P i c t u r e s

[Q] Changing incoming/outgoing calls default image

I want to change the default image that my WM 6.1 HTC Touch HD uses for the incoming/outgoing calls. I know you can add pictures for contacts, but i just want to replace the image i get for any call, be it a person from my contacts or an unknown number. I guess it's possbile to replace the image in the Windows directory, but i couldn't find it. If anyone can point me in the right direction, i'd appreciate it. Thanks
i guess, if it is a standard graphic file like .jpg or .png, the easiest way to find it would be to open Pictures & Videos (not Album!), the app is still present in most roms. then navigate to the windows folder and it will show you all the pictures in the windows folder and subfolders, look it up in the previews, click it and look for the file name (probably in properties).
it takes quite a while to load, since due to sense there are a lot of files present in the windows folder, and frankly, i'm not that interested in replacing that file, so i didn't finish it.
another, maybe faster, way might be to open a file explorer like resco explorer or total commander, sort the files in the windows folder by file type, then either open up the first picture and flick through the pictures in Album (or whatever your standard picture viewer is) until you found it OR copy all pictures to the sd card and look it up on the PC in disk drive mode (this might actually be the fastest way).
Found it in Windows folder with the help of Pictures & Videos application and the .png is called Default_person. Replaced it and now i got a decent default pic for incoming calls. Thank you very much. Topic can be closed.
