O2, MDA AKA Wizard, and downgrading tariff - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hi,
I bought my MDA mini S AKA Wizard when they were doing it for £79.99 plus £50 trade in and got it on the lowest tariff at the time - £16 a month I think.
Has anyone got them to change to the data tariff and within 6 months of taking the contract?

XDA2 £199 @ O2 Shop

I saw that the local O2 shop was selling XDA2s for £199 plus data and voice contract, or £299 with data only contract.
Is that the cheapest around?
hi m8,
did you notice how much the contract costs per month???

I don't think there was a restriction on what contract you had to get.
But I've been in 2 other O2 shops since then, they are still doing the old price of £299 for voice and data.
The O2 shop that was selling for £199 is at the lakeside shopping mall.
thanks for that m8...
I was hoping it was nationwide
how do they get away with just one shop selling them at that price????
my local o2 is elling them for £299 and a min £25 per month contract...
Zetex
O2 will price match, so at least you can get it for £250 if you mention that this is what "The Link" sells them for. This was on the £25/month contract, but you can change this after 3 months, e.g. dropping to the £15/month contract so you will still save!
shhh! Its got to be http://shop.uplands.co.uk/acatalog/O2_XDA_2.html (if only to price match!). £169 for data+_voice at £30 per month.
ive just got my xda 11 from uplands £169 and £35 a month, that's as cheap as i could find on the 250 tarif
xda price
uplands definitely seems the cheapest around
i got mine for £99 incl vat but that's a line rental of £75 pcm although if you are a big user that's the best value around as it allows a 1000 mins anytime anynetwork, 50 texts and free voicemail. Besides you can change it to any tariff you want after 4 months
i found Carlene Gildea v helpful on 0800 389 3000 ext 319 or 01792 481 319
Airlandata: £199+vat, £13 pcm, "best for business" tariff.
Works for me
The price collapse for the XDA2 seems to have happened a lot quicker than for the XDA1.... does that mean no one is buying?
Strangely the prices are going up on ebay, I think there is a shortage of units or something.
most of the shops in my town did,nt have the xda 2 in stock, about 5 phone shops were waiting for them to come in.the o2 shop had 2 in stock but they were £299 on the 250 tarif
£199.99 in O2 stores nationwide no minimum contract!
Hi all,
Just thought i'd let you all know that the O2 XDA 2 is available nationwide in all O2 stores for £199.99, so long as you take a voice and data tariff.
The voice calling plans start at £15 per month (yes - it really can be this low), and data can be on a pay as you use scheme (known as O2 Data Sense) so there is no monthly charge for data.
With the Data Sense pay as you use scheme the more data you send and receive the cheaper the price per MB becomes.
There are other data tariffs availble which come with an inclusive amount of data, if you want to know more about these, an O2 shop will be able to give you some info.
By the way, as far as i'm aware, the majority of shops have the XDA II in stock at the moment.
Mike
Yep I just got my XDA II for £199 from o2 shop with a £15 a month tariff, I had been holding out for the price drop and just using my XDA.
Can someone please tell me which software/hardware version I should have, are there some older versions still doing the rounds and how do I find the details of mine?
many thanks
rich
My local o2 shop (Hanley shopping centre near Stoke-on-Trent) is also selling for 199.99 with voice and data tariff - the o2 website is still showing 349.99!
just got my xda II 199 pounds + 15 pounds contract
So happy
Can someone confirm this price of £199.99 for the O2 XDA II is correct. I've contacted O2 at Bluewater, Lakeside and they stated that the price was £299.99 - no matter what tariff.
So.....what O2 stores are selling the XDAII at £199.99 ????
Cheers
Nutz
The O2 store in Ilford has them @ £199 on any contract, but not in stock I really wanted to get the XDA II as i currently have an ipaq 5450 + t610 on t-mobile. Uplands seem very sure of their stock availability so i will be calling them today but as i want it on thr £16pm tariff i dont think they will help. I will try to go into O2 store as well, i can check ilford/romford & lakeside and will post findings...
The £199 seem to be in every O2 shop, however, I have been to Stoke, Chester, Manchester and Lancaster and none of them have any stock. The guy in Chester said that there is also no stock in 4 other local stores. Does anyone know where there is some stock in an o2 shop.
p.s. Uplands are not selling it for 199, the cheapest is 269 I think.
Hi,
As far as I was aware, the O2 Shop selling XDAII's at £199 was only for February and they are now back to £299 (the same as O2 Online). No matter what price they are, you will be very lucky to get one.. !!!! I live in Dartford and have called almost every O2 Shop in Kent / Essex and there are none
Rgds,
Rob.

Best place to buy an XDAII?

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to by an XDAII? And which is better, an O2 XDAII or an IMATE? I see several auctions for O2 XDA II's on EBAY. I would assume I could buy one there and unlock it for T-Mobile..
I'm also leaning more towards O2 because of the announced ROM upgrade to support Blackberry functionality.. I would assume this would hopefully work with T-Mobile as well as the other blackberry devices software seems to be carrier independant.
What country do you live in and do you want contract or not?
That'll help find the best deal.
I got mine in the UK, phone cost £139 on £25 a month O2 contract
U.S. and I currently have a SIM with T-Mobile.
Can you tell me where I can buy the XDA 2 for £ 139 please
Car Phone Warehouse.
They are doing them for GBP139.99 on the O2 250 tariff and above. Check www.carphonewarehouse.co.uk for the latest deals. Their service is pretty good too, the only thing is the damn XDA II is like gold dust in the UK!!! You may have to wait till they get in stock.
xda 2
if you cant get it at the carphone warehouse try

Thanks!
I got a quote from carfone last week of £150 but it would have to be posted from their warehouse. O2 wanted £250 but pricematched the other quote so I bought it there and then. 250 minute tarif £35pm.

oic !
how long did it post from their warehouse?
and then this one is it the cheapest?
my gues is to look for a combination of XDA / MDA / etc with a tariffplan.
Bought my MDAII in The netherlands for 172 euro's together with a T-Mobile 150 (minutes/month) tariffplan (that costs 22,50 euro per month).
Sounded better to me than 850 euro for the device alone.
Only setback is the sim-lock, but hey: Solved that with the available tools here at xda-developers.
I got mine from OneStopPhoneShop.co.uk back in February for £155 on O2 200 (£30 minimum for first 4 months, then downgradable after 4th month) which i think is very cheap to say that at the time, it was £299 in the O2 shop and £349 online !
Prices for XDAII with new contract (with data, but no minimum tariff) or upgrade have been reduced from 250£ to 180£ in my local (hammersmith) O2 shop.
UPDATE: Didn't read the fine print: Minimum contract O2 100

XDA mini S or Vario (o2 or t-mobile)

Hi
I've just ordered the XDA mini S on a contract from o2.
The contract is called online 100. I get 100 mins and 500 texts for £25. I've opted for the £5 a month option of an extra 4mb data.
I've just noticed that tmobile do a similar contract on the Vario. They give 150 mins a month and 600 texts for £25. But for an extra £7.50 you get their web 'n' walk plan which is unlimited data access.
I have had an XDA II for the last 3 years and loved it. Unfortunately it broke recently and I automatically looked at another XDA but I'm now wondering if I should go for the VARIO.
The main selling point being unlimited data access... that has got to be a huge bonus.. rather than £5 for 4mb from o2 then £1-£2/mb after that.
MY QUESTION IS.... What is the difference between the XDA mini S and the Vario and is there a good reason to stick with o2 and the XDA mini rather than going with tmobile and the Vario??
One last question is the VARIO II the same size as the original VARIO?
Any advice much appreciated.
Thanks
Nic Teeman
I think at that price diferential the only question is one of stupidity - 2GB per month for £7,50 vs 4MB per month for £5, having been a loyal O2 customer for ten years I am leaving, unless they wake up and offer a decent package - I would put up with 250MB per month (it would suffice) but not at their stupid prices, if looking at switching take a look at the vario-III, some people are reporting this device when switching networks for £60 - well worth investigation - Mike

Nic, There are no hardware differences between the two phones. The only difference you will see is the ROM loaded on the phone and the aditional software that each vendor include in that ROM.
Go for the cheapest plan that fits your needs.
