Hi,
I have now successfully configured my XDA exec as a modem and am impressed with the speed I'm getting, but I don't seem to be able to monitor the traffic using SPB GPRS monitor - it simply does not recognise that the GPRS/UTMS connection is being used; therefore its more difficult to track my usage. I know I can look at the connection properties on my PC to see the bytes in and out, but I would like to have a single app that monitors my usage both when I use my XDA as a web browser and also as a modem
any thoughts, suggestion or ideas?
Thanks in advance
Chris
did you find a solution?

I'm looking for something that tracks my data traffic usage. GPRS Traffic Monitor does not monitor the usage of my JasJar as a 3G modem - which I do a lot.
IP dashboard counted traffic that went via activesync thereby horribly overstating my traffic (and thus cost) usage.
Anoyone know fo anything better that works on a Universal?
SPB GPRS Monitor is what I use - any good?

Joe, GPRS Monitor does not track usage of yoru JJ as a 3G modem - whihc is where U REALLY clock up bandwidth.
i had no problems with spb gprs monitor

Ok dude, I've never used it that way due to the bandwidth package I am on. It just measures by whichever connection you choose and I thought I saw a modem in there.
Hey guys,
New to forum and techy stuff so be patient.
Have both an XDA IIi and Exec. My biggest gripe at the moment is this...
When i connect to the internet using my household Wireless connection, my XDA IIi is super quick - and my XDA Exec is unbearably slow! The actual Wifi connection is fast enough - but the browsing web sites and accessing online servers for radio feeds etc seems to be a real issue. Why is there such a difference in the two machines. And how can i get the XDA Exec to perform just as well as the IIi when accessing webpages or server feeds?
Many Thanx guys.
@peeej
Try the following:
- run under Corporate mode
- switch-off beam and error reporting
- create a dummy server for ActiveSync then set sync to manual and then delete the server option
- reset before web browsing
Try the above. Also note: switch off the radio to ensure you are really connected to Wifi instead of GPRS/UMTS
Sorry mate. New to all this.
What do you mean by create a "dummy Server"? Can you explain how to do what you advised - step by step. Sorry mate, you'll need to spell it out for the technologically challenged! hehe.
Also, why would setting up a fake server and then deleting it mate any difference to the speed at which my PDA 'finds' and 'connects' to websites through Wifi?
Cheers
I too have noticed that web browsing is terribly slow...
I'm on 10meg cable and are getting 11meg wifi connection rate, but browsing takes weeks. Very disappointing. I have no idea why though, i've tried all the stuff to make the universal run quicker and it does, but web browsing doesnt

Being the control freak I am I recently wanted to know exactly how much data is transferred during a bluetooth ActiveSync negotiation.
I have not found a single utility/plugin to measure bluetooth activity. Is there such a tool, does anyone know of it? Or do the APIs of the crappy MS stack prevent proper readouts?
Any hints/ideas?
Hey SPB GPRS is a program to measure data flow! now it is mostly used for gprs connections but it has multiple profiles that can be altered to monitor any connection type!
I currently run profiles for GPRS, USB cable (activesync) and BLUETOOTH (activesync) i also have it set up to automatically change upon detection of any of the above connections.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the input, I am gonna take a look at it. It sure helped alot, I could have guessed that regular IP monitors can monitor the BT device, for it is considered a network adapter.
Should get more sleep at night...
hi
How can i monitor how much data i've used (not wifi)
I've got 500mb a month, and while i'm sure i wont use this, i want to keep tabs and reset each month
is this functionality built in?
cheers

I managed to rack up over £100 of data charges before I realised that my network settings (buried away down start->connections->connections->advanced->select networks .... obviously !) were set to use the cellphone connection by default. It was therefore using HSDPA even when wifi was connected. I proved this by downloading an app called GPRS Traffic Monitor. It's very basic but it monitors your GPRS/HSDPA traffic. I've now switched the default connection to be "My Work Network" instead of "Contract Internet" and traffic monitor now shows no increased data usage while the wifi is connected.
I've also noticed (although not scientifically tested) that if an application gets a connection via HSPDA before the wifi connection is established then it continues to use HSPDA and doesn't switch over.
Maybe everyone else knows all this but it was all news (and very expensive) to me.
Cheers,
David

hie have you got a link for gprs traffic moniter, either freeware or paid thanks
www.efficasoft.com. Costs about $10. BTW this is just the first one I found and there may be better ones out there if you have the time to do some google searching. However, this one does seem to work and a couple of other I looked at were fine with monitoring GPRS but couldn't seem to handle HSDPA - this one seems to work fine though.
At the moment I'm still trialling it and if nothing better turns up in the next couple of days I'll register.
Which version did you select?
I can't get the efficasoft cab to install (it keeps reporting back as installation unsuccessful).
Any clues?
I think I downloaded GPRSMonitor_PPC12.cab - I'll check tomorrow and repost if different - I'm just going out now.

Are you sure that you don't have some other setting wrong?
I have cellular network selected here but have issues with it dialing with wifi or activesync connected.
Hello there. I was wondering if there's a way to inquire the phone in order to determine what connection type is active at that specific moment (3G/EDGE/GPRS).
Thanks in advance.
I search the same thing if anyone know how to i'm interested.
Bye
Using the class Microsoft.WindowsMobile.Status.SystemState you have access to CellularSystemConnectedEdge, Gprs, etc. and WiFiStateConnected. To get notified about changes create an instance of SystemState with the desired property as argument and add the changed event.
Wow, thanks. I got so much more than I bargained for within that class.
If I could upvote you, I would.
Hello!
Is there a way to determine, which connection interface is used for a specific connection? If my TCP connection was established, using GPRS and I switch on WLAN, then it will be kept alive on GPRS until a reconnection.
I currently use ConnMgrQueryDetailedStatus but it returns strange results - tells me, that I use GPRS when the connection is established in WLAN.
I need to get the connection type for changing the ping-durations and data volume depending on the connection channel.
Maybe someone of you has the answer - I would be happy about it
Thanks
