Question about changing the icon for a shortcut - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

I cant figure out what I'm doing wrong here. I made a shortcut to opera mini and I want to use the opera icon instead of the midlet manager one. Here's what I have
\windows\jmm.exe" -r"opera mini","opera software asa","opera mini?\storage card\program files\opera\opera.exe,-0
it still has the midlet managers icon
i tried linking it to an icon from a program on the main memory and that didn't work either. Do i have the format right?

doh, nevermind, forgot the " before the ?

Shortcut to Start/Settings/System/MEMORY on Task Bar

Own the i-mate Jam...Using PHM PPC PowerToys TrayLaunch to put shortcuts on the Task Bar...noticed the Dopod 818 has the 'Memory' shortcut packaged in the original Simplified CH Rom...unable to find the file extension through the Jam's 'File Explorer' or 'explore' in Activesync...anyone knows if the extension is an .exe file and/or hidden file and where it is located?...Many ThanX!...Fantastic website!
i-mate JAM
ROM 1.12.00 WWE
Radio 1.12.10
ExtROM 1.12.131 WWE
You will have to execute the following file battery_OU_081304.sa.cab from the Dopod818_CHS_1.12.140 Ext_ROM. This will put the batery icon in the upper taskbar where normally the X button is. Also, this cab will create a memory icon in tray (bottom), which is actually a shortcut to the location you mentioned in your post. This cab just creates the file named battery.exe in \windows directory on your device. You can get the Ext_ROM at this ftp site.
Hope I helped.
Thank You SIR! Followed your instructions...works a treat!! I had spent hours looking for the file extension. You wouldn't happen to have any more valuable advice on how to add shortcuts to the Taskbar for Windows Media Player and Xetra's Bass & Treble without using third party software, would you? Thank you again for your assitance!
As Exec Man requested, posting the .cab. Enjoy!
shanghaishah: AFAIK it's not possible to add your own shortcuts to the tray without using a third party program.
To add shortcuts to any control panel setting, eg battery, bluetooth, memory blah blah, read this page:

where is the My Midlets folder?

I've looked and looked but can't find it....am I dumb?? Using a T-Mobile Wing with WM6.
What folder are you looking for? I dont recall seeing any THE "My Midlets" folder..
In WM5 there's a directory: My Documents\My Midlets and I can't seem to find that. Reason I ask is I'm trying to link gmail and Opera to a shortcut on the today screen, but I can't find the .lnk files for each to do so.

Well if it IS possible to link straight to an installed .jar file then you could try to use Resco explorer or something like that to search for *jar files and you'll find the directory you are looking for!
You need to install the midlets with you midlet emulation program, which installs the .jar file somewhere in your Windows directory. I dont think you can link directly to the apps. It will just try to reinstall the midlet, not run it. Perhaps try linking to your midlet emulation app. It will have the shortcuts to all your installed midlets.

You can use Total Commander to copy any .lnk file to a temporary folder, edit the name of the link to "anythingyoulike.lnk"
After that, you can use a file editor (Total commander has one) to edit the content of the .lnk to show 21#ctlpnl cplmain.cpl,10 and save.
Move the link to the place you want it to show: tray, drop down menu or using a software to show application on Today screen.
All the best.
1. copy the string between the dotted lines (not including the lines) to your notepad
2. save it as Remove Programs.lnk
3. move the link to your ppc-- windows\Start Menu\Program Files
--------------------------------
ctlpnl cplmain.cpl,10?shellres.dll,-13943
--------------------------------
Note:
1. by doing this, you'll have a shortcut with the native icon for Remove Programs
2. try "shortcut creator" if you prefer some other icons
Thanks Guys.
Thank you wovens and iiiox, it was a combination of you both that helped me. 21#ctlpnl cplmain.cpl,10?shellres.dll,-13943 is the string that worked for me. I'm happy now, although I got a basic icon and not the custom one I thought I was gonna have. Check out the pics of the 2 icons below. I must have the 'remove programs' icon next to 'file manager'. It's like addition and subtraction. I never could find the original ink file using Activesync. I just ended up editing another ink with total commander. Is there anyway to change the icon?
The part ?shellres.dll,-13943 tells it the icon to use. Most likely the one you show is actually a png image that is used by the new start menu system for icons.
You can use other programs icons as in ?\windows\myprogram.exe,23 would use the icon numbered 23 in you program called myprogram.exe
I have heard of people creating their own dll files to contain icons they want.

I'm using Energy rom so I figured it was part of it's customization. I'm not sure I understand the example you have given, but I have tried unsuccessfully to locate the wanted icon. Also, I'm clueless about creating dll. Thanks anyway RoryB. Maybe if I stare at it long enough, it will start to make sense to me.
didn't work for me plz help

How to make a shortcut in M2D "programs" tab to a file on SD Card?

Hi,
In the manilla 2D, there is a tab called 'programs', when you click on it, you can select programs from your memory for direct startup, but non from your sd-card.
As i put my IGO8 on my sdcard (also the program, in case of a crash & hard reset) I would like to know if anyone can help me to link the file on my sd card as a program in the M2D tab.
Maybe some registry trick or something else?
Thanks,
Innovator
I dont have manilla on my ppc at the moment but have you tried
1, open "file explorer" and browse to where your IGO8 executable program is on your mem card and select copy,
2, still in explorer browse to windows\startmenu\programs and select paste shortcut
3, now u shuld have a link in your programs menu and be able to add it to m2d
I installed m2d and this works
Thanks mate, it works!!!!
glad i could help you

opera 9.7 - hardware zoom bar is not working after fix

hello, i hope someone will be able to help me.
i downloaded Opera Mobile 9.7 35541 VGA from xdadevs opera topic.
i downloaded PHM Regedit, browsed to
[HKLM\Software\HTC\SmartTouch\Opera Browser]
and changed "full path" key to \windows\opera9.exe - to match opera9.exe in windows folder. when i go to windows, i cant start opera9.exe. tried to rename both to Opera9.exe but no luck.
im able to open OperaL.exe, but when i change full path in regedit to point to OperaL.exe, HW zoom bar is not working.
any ideas?
thx.
I made a .cab with zoombar pointing at \windows\OperaL.exe and addedd WheelCount = 12, see if you have any benefit.
hello. this didnt help. but it seems that something went wrong. i flashed new ROM(same as i had before), installed same Opera build. then found similar .cab to yours and changed it in reg to Opera9.exe. then renamed opera9.exe to Opera9.exe and it worked this time.
btw, may i ask what application did u use to create .cab? i found some yesterday, but none of them worked properly. in case that i want to change something in .cab and repack it to new .cab file.
thx.
Happy to hear tou solved your problem, I use OCP CAB Manager
