Hi
After a ROM update, i find myself with the english version of WM5, which is excellent. However, there is a problem with the locale. Since the keys have been printed with the danish letters and symbols, almost none of the "Special" keys output the correct symbols anymore.
I tried doing the registry hack described on the Wiki,
added the Locale=0406, and altered the Qwerty Layout=132102.
However, after a soft reset the device still has the english locale.
Can anyone help me out with this ?
OK...
Through the miracle of having multiple phones of the same type to my disposal, and not ROM upgraded, i managed to figure out why it didn't work.
The un-flashed phone contained the value for Norwegian input in the registry, so in the english version, this works just as well.
The entry for the norwegian locale is 132116 while the danish is 132102.
Using 132116 will enable the use of Danish / Norwegian keyboards on the English Windows Mobile 5.0.
Hope that can help someone, even though i'm feeling like i'm the only one foolish enough to upgrade to a ROM that didn't support my own language
I have tried this with my Norwegian version on english rom but I could not get it to work, so I use AEKmap to do the job and its works very well.
I changed the rom because I was so used to having everything on pc and pda in english, I started to get lost in norwegian on this phone.
Hello
Anybody who has german ROM, please copy \Windows\compime.dll from your pda and post it here.
I've flashed my VPA with english ROM and now keyboard layout does not correspond hardware buttons.
Registry value \\HKCU\ControlPanel\Keybd\Locale is already filled with 0419 (yeah, I want to input russian too)
MSDN page, describing how to change/add different IME
I hope this will take effect.
Also I tried "German Language Pack" by Hades77. German layout works perfect but I can not switch into russian - [red dot]+[*] inserts * instead of switching locales (as that on english layout). Maybe there is another combination to do this? I have checked any ones but without any result.
Hello to all experts,
I have some questions... (from a noob)
- What is needed to translate the rom into new language ... is there a language cab or ... ?
- Integrating additional memory chip (I've been told that there is possibility to stick another chip above the existing one) ... has anyone tried this ?
I apreciate all you did so far ... thank you
Hi.
By translating ROM I assume you mean having the OS in a different language?
There are two ways:
1) If the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) of your device provides ROMs in different languages you can just download it from their site and reflash. The installation program will guide you step by step and usually it is as simple as connecting your device and clicking 'next' several times.
2) All the strings, menus and the rest of the interface is stored is special files called MUI. (example: coreres.dll.0409.mui - 0409 = English US)
If you can get a set of this files with the language you want and copy them to the device it will do the trick.
If you want more specific instructions you have to tell us what device you have and to what language do you want to translate it (some languages have special requirements)
As for memory chip: Some devices can be upgraded (like IPAQ 4700) but this has to be done in a lab with special tools.
Once again, without knowing what device you have I cannot give you a specific answer.

Hi levenum,
thank you for your time and detailed answers.
Yes, sorry for making you guess but my question is answered under your second answer. What I need is translation of the OS or translation of all strings in OS interface.
My intention is to translate MUI in Albanian (latin) and Macedonian language(cyrilic). I've googled for these language packs but no luck so far.
At the moment I have BlueAngel AKU3.2; ROM 5.04.06WWE; Radio 1.15. and Wizzard G4 with molski ROM.
- Memory upgrading - we would like to try on Magician but any advice is welcome.
Thank you again
Ok, well here some more info then:
1) Since Latin and Cyrillic fonts already exist on all devices with English ROM you won't need to replace font files.
2) If you want to do the translation yourself you will need an app like Resource Hacker or one of the MS IDEs (Visual Studio, eMbedded VC, Platform Builder) MUI are basically exe and dll files that have only resources and no code (they must be in correct exe / dll format).
3) MUIs for system files on WM5 devices must be signed to load.
You should talk to asukal and buzz_lightyear. They made several translation packs for different devices and will be able to guide you in detail.
I have a complete set of 0413 mui files, can I simply replace them in a Rom?
I dumped the (WWE) Rom with imgfs_tools, if I replace all the 0409 files with 0413 files will that work?
Does these files not have to be signed or something?

I hv an ipaq hw6915 with Rom version 1.50.00, pls how can i charge the language to english.
timjaba, in your case you just need to go to HP site and download an English ROM for your device.
I am not 100% certain but if they ever made a ROM upgrade for it there should be one there.
how to flash the english rom onto the Ipaq hw6915?
Hello Levenum,
I have downloaded an English rom for the HP Ipaq hw6915, but I don't know what to do with it. How do I flash it onto the Ipaq in such a way that it will replace the panish language currently installed on it?.... It is a dump.bin file, about 128 MB in size.
Any help is highly appreciated!
Greetings Tom

After many hours of head scratching, I proudly present to you the Greek T9 language pack for BenQ E72.
What made the whole process difficult was:
1. The phone has WM6 Standard with no ROMs/Dumps available. From my research there are at least three different WM6 ROMs: one for Asia (the original one), one for Australasia (the one every phone bought from eXpansys has) and one for a British GSM operator. WM6 has some peculiarities regarding signed code among these ROMs and this affects T9 IME as well. That's the main reason for the difficulty in supporting more languages than the ones in ROM and why packages from NiTroGenious and melgurth do not work (and every other version of T9 Greek LDB I could find...).
2. Due to no ROM availability, it's impossible to cook a new ROM as information about system internals (bootloader, etc) is scarce therefor it's impossible - for now - to create a cooked ROM that would overcome issue (1) and would allow us to overcome the issues of signed code (plus we could update in WM6.1).
To install the Greek T9 language, use the attached .cab file. Install it in the phone memory and reboot. The cab file will update the T9 core files with signed files and install a signed Greek T9 LDB. It will also remap T9 system wide, so that sequential keyboard presses (like searching through Contacts) will use the current T9 setting. It will also update the GSM operators list in Greece. The system does not localize the OS.
Please post problems/suggestions in this thread.
If there is enough interest, I will create additional language packs.
Many thanks to NiTroGenious and melgurth for their help.
Enjoy your BenQ E72.
Additional language packs
If possible can you create a package with Portuguese, English and Spanish languages. Also can you explain me what tools you use to create the cab and where you find the signed version of the dll. Hope to have some news from you soon. Kind regards.
You can find an updated T9 package for the following languages, here.
- English
- French
- German
- Greek
- Italian
- Portuguese
- Spanish

I have a PDF in Chinese, if anybody knows how to translate, together with all files mentioned in the PDF (P21DTDownloadtool etc...) and an Australasian WM 6.1 ROM. I have tried to flash myself, but can't get pass the PASSPORT application due to the txt file for the Passport being in Chinese and my Windows XP is English.
If anybody wants files & ROM then tip me the wink and I will upload it to my Webspace.
PDF is here...

The Portuguese T9 it's not working at all. I think the problem is that when you select Portuguese he setup the country language code as 0406 (Portuguese Brasilian) instead of 0816.

Hello,
The Portuguese T9 is set up as 0816, not 0406.
Are you sure you are using an E72 with the eXpansys ROM? The system will (probably) not work with other ROM versions.
Hi,
I bought my E72 on Expansys, so I think I'm using the correct ROM. For example if you go to T9 menu and go to T9 Settings-Help you find that Portuguese T9 is not loaded. On my E72 I don't see any reference to Portuguese T9 version, all the other languages packages are present there.
I continued thinking that the problem appears to be on the country code. Take a look on the registry dump.
Regards.
Hi,
I've uploaded an updated version of the E72 T9. There was an issue with the Portuguese LDB file and it's reference in the registry. The string was 'PortugeseLdb.dll' instead of 'PortugeseLdb.dll'. The language codepage is correct, according to Microsoft LCID table (0816 for Portuguese).
As always, your E72 should be fully application unlocked before applying this updated T9.
Re-download the new file from the above link and post your results there.

Cannot run .cab files - WM6.5 phone
Hi,
I have an E72 phone. The details are WM6.5 CE OS 5.2.21234 build 21812.5.0.50.
As per post #21, I am trying to run the .cab file for enabling English T9 feature and I am getting the following error.
“Installation was unsuccessful. The program or setting cannot be installed because it does not have sufficient system permission”
I have placed the .cab file under "My Documents".
Please help me.
Also, how to edit the registry of a CE phone? Please explain the steps.
regards,
Lucky

Hello,
I have this phone but have a problem- how to set English display language. I read in this forum - i must find a English rom... or... i am not shure. Can u help me?
/sorry for my english/
Thanks a lot
you can not change the language in windows mobile, you have to use an English ROM.
unfortunately, Acer has not yet released ROM updates, nor are there custom ROMs available yet. But check back the forum regularly, there is one in the making.
oh...
Just wait... right?
Can i install only English language? or... just update something?!?
you need to flash a different ROM, if you want a different language, period.
a device can only contain a single language a time, so you need to install a different Windows Mobile (in form of a ROM image). Why haven't you bought an English device to begin with?
I bought it from ebay. There is no information to display language.
Just one last question- can i install ROM from other model phone?
no.
you need one specific for the neoTouch S200.
Did you try to change regional settings (start, settings, system, regional settings). I always had an english device but this maybe will help you so you can read english.
What language do you have?
While waiting for an english rom, you may install/try SPB Mobile Shell 3.5 which works fine on S200 and choose enlish as your language. This will help you alot. At least you will use your mobile decent.
Freco, thanks !!!!
I will check SPB Mobile Shell 3.5 ... and will wait for rom.
You are the man!!! thank you again!!!
You can change language... but its a little bit tricky...
You need mui files for language you want eg 0415 are for polish language then change some registry entries...I've made polish language for TG01 and the only problem are settings from Toshiba(they don't use mui files ;/)

Hi All!
2 days ago i bought S200 and now i have the same problem
It`s french WM and it's .....aaaah no comment :/
I need english language (or polish)
I will try install SPB maybe it helps me for a few days...
But if someone will find english WM for s200 please share somewhere...
Now, I have s200_1.002c.00_fr
maybe some one can find s200_1.002c.00_en somewhere...
First You must know how to hard reset Your phone with button combination (messing with registry entries can lead to the hangups or make your system unbotable) second so far i know changing language on french/german TG01 to the English made system unbotable(that was Toshiba Keyboard SIP problem) and didn't translate much of the system... i didn't seen anywhere english mui files so easier would be to translate language to Your native using mui files from rom with close build number with one installed on Your phone
Hi everyone!
First of, as first time poster I'd like to say thankx to everyone who maintains this site and everyone who contributes with everything, from they're kitchen's best meals to any crazy ideas, I've been taking advantage of that for last month or so
But for this one I've found no answer, so here goes:
Yesterday I bought an Acer S200 F1 neoTouch yada yada yada...
I live in Portugal, so it comes with portuguese version of WM 6,5 which is horribly translated, making me, therefore, prefer the english version. I've never actually seen one of these with english version for sale here.
So I went around fishing for a way to change the language, I downloaded the official english version rom update from Acer's website, extracted it, replaced the ACER_EUU.exe with the cracked one, and it flashed smoothly.
However, EVERY SINGLE TIME I turn on the phone it hangs up, sometimes on the WM logo, sometimes during network search (shortly after WM is loaded I guess). Then it reboots all by itself, and then it works sort of ok.
I think I've described the process quite extensively, obviously, either I'm doing something wrong, or this method is not even supposed to work.
So I flashed the portuguese version back to the phone using the exact same method as described above, only not with english rom of course, and it is back to working as it should... in awful badly translated and cropped portuguese.
Should anyone know a way to get around the hang-ups I get with the english version, I'd be so grateful!
Cheers!
Why don't you try one of the Rafyvitto's roms. They are english and good looking.
Indeed. I'm using v2.7-vanilla, no crashes to date.
But I'm kind of obsessive, and rafyvitto's roms althought working much like they should, they have stuff built in which I think have no business being there. In this vanilla 2.7, as an example, title bar makes no sense as WM already has it's own way of doing the same (I think) I'm a noob to WM, so this might be a complete nonsense. Then there are bugs, such as the keyboard not showing/hiding properly during a call (I have to tap the button as if double clicking, and the button's description displays a wrong message ("hide" when it's hidden, "show" when it's being shown already) and sd-card encryption can't be turned off.....
Small things which make my day a little worst
Still, I appreciate rafyvitto's work, as the possibility of choice he provides us with is priceless =)
EDIT: as of the release of the new official rom's from acer (EUU_Acer_S200_3.003b.00_EN_03.03.08_3.003.01_20100119.zip) I am able to change the language from portuguese to english without the hangups I mentioned earlier!

are there mui files for every part of the os? like settings, programs, clock, messaging etc?
would it be possible to take the mui files from a german rom rename them from mui.0407 to 0409 install a new english rom and replace the mui files with the german renamed ones?
of course with a programm that allow replacing rom files like resco explorer or total commander?
if so maybe i even could get some german htc manila mui files from originial htc leo rom and rename and replace the ones of the acer s200 leo roms to have a part german rom ?
