Hi it seems that Qtek and i-mate are a bit faster in coming out with ROMs. I was wondering if I could update my dopod 838 [WIZA100] with a Qtek 9100 or k-JAM [WIZA200] ROM, if I recall correctly the difference between the 2 models are the dopod has WiFi 802.11b and the Qtek 9100 and k-JAM have 802.11g. Aside from this is the physical appearance. Has anyone with a dopod 838 updated his/her device with a ROM from Qtek or i-mate?

Yep !! you can do that.
Actually I did try all ROMs and found out the the best (fast&stable) ROM is T-Mobile.

I was able to flash it to T-Mobile but I lost the Mono BT streaming so I decided to revert back to the dopod ROM. Also I noticed that CVC on both ROMs are a bit different. On my dopod it says: "say a command" with the T-Mobile version it just chimes. I'll play around with my dopod ROM for a bit longer then maybe I will play with the other ROMs as well.
When changing from CHT to English I made a mistake and dumped the Charmer Rom Update... (by mistake.. wrong identification...)as a result the Extended rom stays the Chrmer and I can't get rid of it. I could not find a way to modify the extended rom can only "see" , can't modify it.
Could one of the 818pro wwe owners dump his complete rom (sd version) and upload it to the site?, Is there already a "shipped rom" version?

Is your unit a Dopod? Anyway, I've tried to FLASH my MDA Compact 2 with a Dopod ROM and my camera stops working. Just take note of that.
There seems to a way to unlock (replace/modify) the Ext Rom.

1. The MDA compact II is not the same H/W as the 818 pro. Your camera did not work becase the 818 pro has a defrent Camera 2.0 MPixels while the Compact II is only 1.3MPixels.
2. I tried all methods mentioned here and NADA... I can unhide the Extended Rom but I can't modify/get rid of the exsiting content (which has been originated by mistake when I RRUed it with the Charmer (MDA Compact II) files.
3. The 818pro on the FTP is missing the Extended rom NK/NBA files.. and I can't over write the rom because it is locked for writing. A shipping rom could help, because probably I can use the rom editing tools to set it up.
I wish there is a way to write back the extended rom files into the machine with the awizard utility (it is great.. but this function is mssing for my case...).
Still looking for a flash rom to clean my "dirty" T-mobile charmer extended rom on my 818 Pro..
Right now I stop the Extended rom update and built an ExtRom on my SD card using the files that are in the FTP.. however for future sake and for the simplisity of Hard Reset in the future I would like to have a complete Image of the Extended Rom.

Yes, you can do that but your 818Pro will have European/Australian GSM settings instead of Asian. You need to flash the DopodAsia Extended_rom if you want those Asian settings.
I am in Australia currently, and bought my Dopod in Singapore. I am currently facing the Sleep-To-Death (STD) problem on my Dopod so I am wondering if I should try the imate ROM...
Imate Jamin rom on Dopod 818-Pro (Hong-Kong)
I tried flashing my 818-pro with the Jamin Rom... stoped after 95% (assuming when validating the device ID) and informed that the rom is not for my device... left the 818-pro dead!. My only way to recover was, to flash with MDA compact rom to bring it live again and than load through awizard the 818-pro WWE version from this FTP.
Conclusions:
1. Imate decided to disable an incorrect device???? (perhaps un-intentially).. therefore avoid using the Imate RRU utility.
2. flash NBA through the Awizard utility.
Question how to separate the Extended Rom from the NK.NBA provided ???

I don't think so. I have successfully flashed my Dopod 818Pro with Imate JAMin. However, I flashed it back to DopodAsia ROM because it's not a newer ROM.

If you still can get your Dopod to the Bootloader mode, you may try to flash it with this Imate ROM. Better than STD I guess. Good luck!
(To get it to Bootloader, press Camera button and reset the unit. Holding the camera button until you see four color bars. Insert USB connector and run the ROM file.)

Thanks for the advice Khuanchai, I might want to try this out, but am worried about getting a failed flash like in Dubi's case. It will be difficult for me to send my 818Pro for repair as there are no Dopod service centres here in Australia.
Do I need to take special precautions before running the update, such as applying the unlock CID option using the aWizard tool?

Not sure you need to unlock CID in order to flash a new ROM only but it's a must if you want to backup your Dopod ROM. I have done this to backup my Dopod ROM that can be flashed back whenever I want.
I think Dubi has failed because of incomplete downloaded file.

Thanks for the remarks.... however... My phone has been originally Chinese and I loaded the 818pro rom wwe avaiable here on the FTP> however by mistake I flashed it before with an MDA compac rom which installed a wierd Extended Rom which I can't get rid of, unleass I have a good "ship" version. Tried few time to flash the Imate Jamin rom and it quited after 95%. I am currently using the Imate version.. dated Jan 9th. which I was able to finalize with lot's of tricks such as complete the RRU by lading just a radio version.... I think (just feeling) that the Dopod818 pro wwe is better.... however in order to resolve my complete issues and to let you know if it fialed (95%) becuase of Imate or becasue of a strange Extendedrom that I have I need to have access to a "SHIP" WWE Asia version. Placed a request here on the Board but so far no one Uploaded it... Yet.

I have backed up my Dopod 818Pro's original ROM (English version) to a BIN file that needs to write to an SD card before flashing the unit. If you want to try, please find a place that I could upload to.

Here is the original Dopod 818Pro ROM (WWE) with instructions. I had difficulty uploading file but finally finished. Let me know if you find the file incomplete.

Thanks for the efforts, however the zip file is corrupted.... I tried dnload it 3 times, the same file and zip is corrupted... I suggeste please verify that indeed your original file integrity is ok and upload it again. The best is just to attach the file to your message (if you have difficulties to use the ftp...).

Hello Everyone,
I have changed the IMEI number of my Dopod 838 last night, but I had to downgrade to lower ROM Ver. for CID issue. But the rom i have installed on dopod was chinese.
After installing the lower Rom and solving the IMEI issue I installed another Wizard rom on it (which is not for 838 I think).
Well I found the Rom for 838 but i cannot install it, it shows a message like "you need newer version of NBF" etc.
I would like to install latest Dopod 838 English Rom to my dopod, can anyone help me on this please?
