Holux 213 & Wizard - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

I have a Holux 213 USB GPS receiver. I bought it for my laptop, but I couldn't find any software for it so now I want to use it with my XDA Mini S. The receiver itself has a PS/2 connection, which plugs into a PS/2 to USB adaptor which came with it. Is there any way I could get some sort of adaptor to use it with my wizard or do I have to buy a BT GPS?
Or if not, if you take a look here, in the drop down box on the right hand column next to 'Holux 213', do any of the HTC devices listed have the same connector as the Wizard?
Thanks

X2 & GPS - doing my head in

Hi guys,
Firstly great board, secondly i was wondering if anyone was able to help me with the problem I am having with my X2.
I have loaded tom tom onto it and when I plug the GPS in, it doesn't work. I have stopped the Active Sync running since it kept launching the active sync window when I plugged in the gps. I try launch the GPS Status menu from inside the tom tom navigator and it says "Unable to launch the GPS control panel".
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
Stuart.
What GPS are you using?, i use a Fortuna Bluetooth GPSmart and it works perfectly, i am running bluetooth tools though, the bluetooth connection seems much more reliable when using it
It isn't a bluetooth one, it doesn't say what make it is just a compact flash GPS receiver?
Mosser,
Is the fortuna blue tooth recharchable or does it use AA batteries??
Imries, if it is compact flash then i assume you must be using it with the xda2 backpack, I have heard of many cards that will not function with the backpack.
Jupiter. The Fortuna Gpsmart uses AAA batteries, standard or rechargeable, however there is no recharge circuit on board.
As cruisin said, the fortuna uses 3 aaa batteries, but i mostly use the power lead in the car and save the batteries for when i'm on the train or walking,
I also have a noname brand CF GPS that just says BC-307 on the cd rom that came with it, it works fine on my ipaq 2210 but i dont want to get a backpack after trying one in the shop, it was way too bulky for me so i'm staying bluetooth on my XDA2
Thanks.
I am tempted to get one. I suppose there are pro's and con's of having AA batteries.
Ie if you are in a himalayan village without electricity but the corner shop sells AA batteries?!
Any ideas what price I should be paying.
Another thing - do you guys know of any shops that actually sell GPS units? I have looked in all shops in the UK but could not find any?!
I had the same issue with my XDA 2 with Tom Tom.
It is to do with the Infra Red Port.
Loot at connections under Control Panel under Infra Red untick the Receive box.
Hope this works OK.
Click the link below, expansys are usually one of the cheapest suppliers in the UK they are curently going for £115 for the gps, £25 for the pc link/car power lead, and £8 for the cig lighter to usb power adaptor making it around £148 in total
http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=GPSMART,
If your interested i am selling my Fortuna gpssmart and pc/power cable and cig lighter adaptor soon as i am getting a rover 75 that will have sat nav in it already and i dont need 3 sat nav system!!
It is all in mint as new condition with the latest firmware that i loaded myself and is all fully boxed, looking for £100 for it all
Mosser, which cable did you use for the firmware upgrade, i was under the impression that a proprietary cable was required and that a standard mini usb cable would not suffice?
Your right that you do need the genuine propriatry cable to connect to the GpsSmart and luckily thats what i bought!, you cant use a standard cable as there is no usb interface on the GpsSmart, it is actually a serial connector made to look like a USB connector and the genuine/propriatry cable has a USB to serial convertor chipset built into it, thats why the cable is so expensive

i-Mate JAM mini USB pinouts?

Does anybody have them?
The reason is, I would like to use the same charger I got with a Holux GPSlim 236 but I don't dare risk it until I see the pin configurations?
The Holux comes with a mini USB car charger which would be ideal as I could charge whichever device needs charging using only one cable (likely to be the JAM that needs charging!)

Use it, you will be fine. The Pin-outs are standard.
I charge my Magician with the in-car charger cable that came with a bluetooth headset.

GPS connection

Hi,
I am new to PDA s and have seached fo hours trying to find an amswer. I have emailed suppliers and gotten nowt back.
I have a Globalsat bu353 with usb connection that I have used with my laptop - no probs...
I would like to use this with my xda ii and have seen connection cables for the car which are of the y type - Cigar lghtrt/XDA/GPS mouse receiver BUT they are always for ps2 - Is there a usb one? Or if I use a usb to PS2 adapter thighy will that work?
Also if this does/if I had a ps2 mouse do I have to put drivers on the XDA as I had to do with the laptop? I can find out nothing anywhere about this so all responses are greatfully received.
Thanks
KPM
GPS Connection
www.pdamods.com seem to have a good range of cables. Hope this solves YOUR problem!
I still can't get my M1000 to recognise a Bluetooth GPS receiver ......
Best of luck!

USB GPS, Universal and USB Hub - is the following possible?

Hi,
I have a USB GPS receiver that is powered via the USB cable wired into my car which I occasionally use with my laptop.
I would like to connect this to my universal, but am worried about it draining the battery.
I have a small Belkin USB hub that has external power (which I can provide from a transformer in the Cig lighter socket) that has one mini USB socket which is usually used to connect to the PC and then 4 standard USB ports.
If I connect the GPS to one of the USB ports and then Universal to another they should both be powered, but will the Universal be able to 'see' the GPS?
I know I could go and just try it, however it would be useful to know before hand incase it doesn't work when it is supposed to due to some driver issues or something similar.
Any thoughts appreciated.
To My understanding this is not possible, the mini usb port on the uni is not capable....there is a word to describe it but cant remember at the moment. The port can onl charge and sync.
it won't work
Sadly this won't work as the uni does not support usb host - it can charge and sync but thats all as far as i'm aware.
that was it "usb host"
THanks. That's a shame, I'll have to get a BT one now.
Or look for a cradle that will act as the host for both devices. Sadly when I searched on google, most of the returned results are blocked by my work firewall, so I can't see for sure that one exists for recievers with usb plugs.
edit* Although thinking about it, the price of a cradle could well equal a new bluetooth receiver, and bluetooth would be vastly more practical use of your cash.
Thanks, already trying to track down a BT receiver.
Why not?
What makes me wonder is that when my MDA Pro is connected via activesync with my PC, I can browse with my MDA over my PC-Internet connection into the Internet. Why should it not be possible to use the usb connection of the MDA with other hardware? Isn't it just a driver problem?
Any ideas???
hm
My thought on that would be that your MDA is acting as the slave device when attatched to your PC, not the host.
Hey, here's a market opportunity for you USB GPS manufacturers - add USB Host capability and TCP/IP protocol to your USB GPS device... What? Can't hear you. Ah, Too expensive?. Ah, ok :-(

GPS Feed via the Min USB?

Anyone reckon this is achievable?
Coudl be possible to get USB to RS232 conversion for the mini USB socket?
Surely there must be some software that does such thing!
I don't think it's that easy - usb is slave, not host, so it limits what you can connect it to.
Why would you not use bluetooth? Irda would even be an option. But USB, I don't think it's going to happen (easily).

I know there use to be serial GPS receivers for the old iPaqs, before they had bluetooth. They connected through the devices USB port (HP proprietary plug) which acted as serial (not USB host).
However, I never heard of one with min USB connection.
Thanks for the reply guys.
I do remember finding a company that had software that turned the mini usb into a usable RS232 interface with the help of some software installed on the PDA but I can't find it anymore!

Oh What I wanted to do is integrate a hardwired GPS solution in with a in-car cradle so people can just place their PDA in the cradle and away they go!
With Bluetooth it is much more difficult because for each user that uses that vehicle they will need to keep pairing devices up!
did you have any luck with this? I was looking to make up mini usb connector for Holux cr 100 - sounds as though it won't work though.
Has anyone managed to get a GPS feed from a SGS to their laptop, via the USB?
I have Marine Navigation software on my laptop, but not a GPS dongle. If I can use the SGS to supply the laptop with a GPS feed it would be very handy.
Any ideas anyone?
