Hi guys.
I'm new here, but that won't matter.
I'm new to this entire phone area. I ordered a Cingular 8125, and is due on Monday. I've been using those "free with contract" phones for a while now, and I thought I would like a change in pace.
But the problem is, I know nothing at all about the Cingular 8125, so I have a few questions.
I have a Cingular SIM, as I am a customer of Cingular, but I'm buying the phone seperately, so do I have to get it unlocked?
What are some applications to use on it?
What is all of this talk about AKU2 i-mate, etc about?
And anything important you would like me to know...
Thanks guys, I appreciate it. ^_^
you dont need it unlocked if you use a cingular sim. They won't give it to you unlocked, but you can use a program called lokiwiz or awizard to do it if you want to. search the forums for downloads.
Aku2 is an update that adds push e-mail and stereo bluetooth support. imate is just the name of a company that rebrands these phones.
applications you need: omapclock, wm5newmenu, smartskey, RegistryWizard and Total commander
i also suggest a today screen shortcut launcher and a program that makes the X button actually close programs instead of minimize them. i use spb pocket plus for this, but there are free alternatives.
Opera has a great internet browser for ppc and an excellent java based mini version. I suggest both of those
Get TCPMP for movies and I like Mortplayer for mp3's
Thanks.
Where can I find these programs?
google.com, your local pirate for the rest
Thanks ^_^
Also, which ROM update should I use? I see a lot after I searched..
I just upgraded from Tmobile MDA to the latest ROM, and my problems have all but vanished. Radio now picks up Wifi much quicker etc:
K-JAM_WWE_216901_2169101_020710_ship.zip
Thanks, does it matter which model you have? Cingular 8125, T-Mobile MDA, etc?
Pondering the leap myself...

Did you have problems with the settings or anything? Once you managed the install, how complicated was it? Did you edit the extended ROM? How much storage did you have after the install?

Hi,
i have just got my first magician device - the SPV M500 and have a few questions. is it worth updating any of the roms like so many of these posts talk about? although i purchased it on orange and it has all the orange branding i mainly use my o2 sim - should i look at using the o2 xda mini rom? or am i best just sticking with what i have?
also what programms would people most reccomend for the magician devices? as i want to get the most out of it! also is there a better software for backing the phone up than activesync?
thanks and sorry for the stupid questions!
Tom
anyone?
I always say: if it aint broken, dont fix it
I dont follow the rule myself, I like to tweak and patch my device until its to my satisfaction....the default configs are just horrible imo
but if you dont know what yer doing...be carefull with upgrading
for software I have a few apps I cant do without:
WebIS Pocket Informant 2005 - a PIM application
phoneMax PhoneAlarm - Advanced profile setup
Wivit SIM Status Switcher - for switching between SIM cards when using a dual SIM adapter
SPB Weather - I like to know the weather...this is a Today screen plugin
SBSH Pocketbreeze - displays your tasks and appointments on the today screen
Get some backup software and then you can play to your hearts content.
However, I went from 1.11 to 1.12 without noticing any differences, so I'd concur, don't mess unless you feel you really need to!
Do the bigstorage hack though. And if you're doing that, you might as well rom upgrade at the same time.

I had the same debate over my m500.
I used it for around 3-4 days just how it was supplied to me, to see if it was stable (which it was) the rom that was supplied with my m500 was 1.06 (found in start>settings>system>device info) I have kept this version of the rom, but upgraded the radio rom to 1.13 and also hacked it to give me big storage.

I was a bit angry today to find out that T-Mobile UK won't be releasing the Exchange Messaging Feature Pack and Bluetooth 2 update until June!!!
I know I can flash my Wizard with another ROM, but I want to know exactly which one to use that is the most newest and stable available. I don't like the T-Mobile customisation very much so I'd like to get rid of it. Also, how would I restore the MMS settings for example? I can easily input the operator setttings if necessary or will I need to use an actual program.
T-Mobile have also withdrawn the last update from their website citing that it had faults. I'm using the original ROM.
Thanks for your time.
i also got the Vario with the 2.08 Rom, works very stable on my device
Is that a T-Mobile ROM? I want to use one of the Qtek ones I think so I get push email. Can anyone advise? My device is unlocked using the tool and CID unlocked but I'm not sure what that is!
i've had chance to play with v1605 in Vodafone UK shop and i've noticed that vodafone has ripped off default Windows Mobile Today plugins, such as calendar, todo list, owner information etc. personally i really think it's crap thing to do, but is there any way to get them back? some reghack or maybe installing them from some .cab? anyone who using vodafone's Hermes/TyTN found way to do it?
btw, the model which i played with, had S/N HT626 and in fact some keys on sliding keyboard needed more pressure to make them work. other interesing news - it was unlocked! my Virgin Mobile SIM card worked fine.

thanks, however since i have MDA Vario II with all standard plugins present, i don't need that solution any more. but maybe someone else will find it useful.
I know i have tried this before, this is a new question. Okay with all of the new info that has come out. If someone were to start off new, what would you do first, in upgrading your (usa) mda? If this was your t-mobile info.
Rom version: 1.8.10.2 wwe
Rom date: 12/10/05
Radio version: 01.09.10
Protocal vers: 4.0.13.20
ExtRom vers: 1.8.10.104
Please remember i am not looking for directions, i am just looking for the correct order of things with all of the new stuff that has come out. The phone is already unlocked. Thx
If your phone is indeed CID unlocked, CID not SIM, then you can look into upgrading your rom. First order of business is CID unlocking, after that your set to start messing around with your phone.
I'm a USA T-Mobile user.
I am very happy with Faria's 3.3.0.0 ROM. It is fast and pretty. There is a wiki on it.
I use WM5NewMenu, TodayAgenda, Battery Status & Smartskey to control the device. I am quite happy with the Plantronics 510 Bluetooth headset. The programs I use daily are Handyweather, NewsBreak, Listpro, SKSchema, SPB Backup. The programs I use weekly include Zagat and 1-Calc Lite. For setup I use Total Commander and Memmaid, rarely use otherwise. I am experimenting with the free Foxit WM5 pdf reader because the Adobe version is klugy -- movement requires redrawing the screen.
Thx.I will look in to cid unlocking first.
hai i have t mobile mda vario i tried cid unlock with lokiwiz 3 now how do i know it is unlocked
I have learned a little. You will know if it is cid unlocked if you can change you rom, from the factory rom. And you will know if it is chip unlocked if you can change the chip to another company chip and it will work. Good luck, The blind leading the blind. lol
Okay, i have changed roms from t-mobile standard rom, to xelecin, now to t-mobile 2.26. What i am looking for is for my slingmobile to work better, and for skype to work better. So know i figure i need to up grade to molski, or faria's rom, and the change my omap clock to 260 to be safe, i guess. any help would be great. Thanks.
Overclock

Actually, you can use T-Mobile's rom, just (i) overclock with omap (or smartskey or batterystatus, which use the same technology), and if you run out of space, there is lots of unnecessary stuff in the T-Mobile ROM. Faria's will almost surely help a bit but using skype isn't that hard.
I'd have said 260 is much faster than necessary. I've never gone beyond 247, never needed to. But I am using Faria 3.3.
Wow, This is great. I still really have no real idea what i am doing, but for a newbee, i got this far. My mda G3 works great. I am still trying to figure everything out but it even looks great. I am using slingmobile and skype at 286 clock speed. Now this is an Usa mda from t-mobile. My service with t-mobile is off. So now i have a cingular prepaid chip in the phone. With no internet service for prepaid. I down loaded this. THX I will make a donation. Molski is the man.

Help i am almost done i think. from clueless
Glad to hear things are going good for you. As long as you read-up on things before you do them you will be ok, but I guess you already found that out yourself
many roms of wm6 are around on known sites for specific models.is anything for our herald too?ive read that there is going to be an official update to wm6 of this model so there must be something around, even beta.
Mhhm, i couldn´t find anything by now....
Lets wait a little, i think HTC is going to release something for us, soon
No one cooking any roms for the Herald tho?
doesn't look like it, i looked into porting one of the wizard roms but i didnt get very far! its definately possible to flash your own roms though. Also its worth remembering that HTC have promised us wm6 roms before June. I would much rather have that than a pre-release wm6 rom as the ones that are avaliable for the wizard, hermes etc.
As far as i know, everyone is content with AKU 3.2

well i have used crossbow on my wizard and the only difference i see are pretty icons and html mail. i dont really care about either, and more importantly my herald is very stable, cant remember the last time i had to soft reset never mind hard reset. so thats why i can wait until htc do their thang!
I hear one handed uses on WM6 is way better and that windows update feature looks very promissing.
O2 may be releasing an HTC Herald as O2 XDA Terra, with WM6 on it.

HTC Herald (aka Tmo Wing)
I bought a T-Mobile Wing 2 days ago (obviously it has WM6 on it) Where-as it is stable - I am rather disappointed that they removed the native VoIP support - thus I am waiting for someone to cook a ROM and put it back in so I can do the Hybrid Cell/VoIP thing that I was Previously doing on my Wizard (MDA) - I still have my Wizard which I use strictly for VoIP at home.
