Storing Mail (not just attachments) on memory Card - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Back when I had my MPx and was obsessed about memory I recall a number of registry tweaks that save memory including one that would direct the the mail to be saved on the SD card rather than in Main Memory.
I cant seem to find those notes anywhere does anyone remember how to do that and if it will work on my KJam
Any ideas?

Thank....sounds like it does not word on the wizard

Outlook starts up before the card manager does, which screws you hard. No way around it that I've found.

I wonder if you could stop pocket outlook from starting up on bootup altogether. Screws other bits, I suppose (Calendar Today item and such)

I move poutlook out of the startup folder and there does not seem to be any issues.

Yeah, but if you want it to automatically check email doesn't that prevent it from working?

I have not gotten that far....
right now I am stuck on the reg changes not sticking...after I soft reset the changes are not there anymore

Oh

if the reg changes aren't sticking around, you may be soft resetting to soon... wait a while (go have a nice rum&coke), then soft reset. Or hold the power button for several seconds, it'll ask if you want to power down, choose yes.
If you think the values are just getting 'reset' when it starts up, make some bogus value in a different location where reg changes are known to stick. E.g. "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Colors\Test = Hello World". Then after the soft reset, if your changes are gone, but the Test is still there - then the values are getting overwritten. If your Test didn't even stick around, then the registry changes were never written away.

Missing Back button in PIE

I recently just noticed that when I browsed using Pocket Internet Explorer (PIE), the "Back" button on the bottom left hand side is no longer shown. It only shows the "Favorites" button, thus I can NOT go back to the previous web page.
I didn't make any registry changes or anything like that and the only programs that have the capability to changes hardware button settings are SpB Plus and SoftKey and they don't have the option to change the PIE application button.
Anyone know how I can bring the "Back" button back?
It only shows "favorites" when there is nothing to go back to. ie the first page of the session. As soon as you navigate to the next page it changes to "back"
That is correct. But what I meant is that even after I navigate to a website, the button still shows as "Favorites".
I.e. From "Home" screen, go to cnn.com, then go to yahoo.com. The "Back" button is not shown and I can't go back to cnn.com

Things to check:
Have you changed any setting that disables the PIE cache.
Is PIE able to cache pages eg is it to storage card and does it's folder still exist and is SD card reachable.
Perhaps try changing cache location?
Mike
Yes, I did change the PIE cache location to "Storage Card". That folder exist in File Explorer and I can see in "Storage Card" that there is a "Temporary Internet Explorer" folder.
I tried changing the size of the cache, move to "Extended ROM" and ROM storage, but to no avail.
I removed (but not uninstall) WisBar, thinking it may change it, but also to no effect. However, I don't think WisBar did anything to it, since it only skin the application.
I am thinking that some application may messed up PIE, but all the apps that I installed are the same ones I have installed in my old MDA and there was no issue on the MDA. If there is some registry change I can apply to fix it, do let me know.
Mmmm.....
Couple of things I'm curious about - SpB Plus and SoftKey. I don't have either of these. But It's worth setting back any setting you have entered since your problem developed. Just because it has no specific setting does not mean that a seemingly non related change has not caused problem (for example if you set smooth scrolling in PIE using say Tweaks2k2 you will find the tab behaviour when sending SMS messages has changed!). Do not just uninstall these apps as this will not reset the registry changes they may have made.
The reason I asked about cache was simply that with no cached pages to return to there would be no back option available,
Of course you will have a nice SPB backup or two available to restore with won't you!!!? I play around with mine so much (!) that I keep several backups at various stages of application installation and over time.
Also curious to know if your history is being recorded in PIE drop down list in URL box. At a pinch you could use this as a rough sort of back button.
I have not looked into all the registry keys for PIE. This forum Wiki or indeed the wiki for some of the other devices may already have the keys mapped out . I did find info on setting cache size.
In the end it may be simpler to hard reset if those backups are not available.
Mike
Thanks for the detailed info, Mike.
I did disable SpB Plus, but to no effect. At the end, I uninstalled WisBar, Spb Plus, and SoftKey but nothing change either.
Yes, I can do hard reset, but I am trying to avoid that because I have to re-install everything. I have a "base" backup using SpB backup, but it still requires me to install other program as the other daily backup sets may already have corrupted PIE registry.
I am hoping that I can do something about this via the registry, unless this is something that really require hard reset just like the issue I have with duplicate notifications. i.e. after soft reset, the alarm reminder and sound will start although no appointment or task is scheduled at that time.
Now I know why PDA is not popular for most people.. it's just too damn fragile! And I used Windows CE since the time of Cassiopeia...

How to get rid of: stk_uippc.exe (Fun & Info)

When I open Programs I always have an shortcut named: "Fun & Info".
I know it's a shortcut to the file: stk_uippc.exe
Is there any way to get rid of this icon? I don't mind that the file keeps existing in the Windows directory.
I tried delete the shortcut but it keeps coming back after a soft reset.
Think I've found it myself, but I wanted to share it with my fellow forum members
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Services\STK_Service]
"Keep"=dword:00000001
Changed to:
"Keep"=dword:00000000
That's all!
Thanks for the info, but after changing it in the registry my phone starts up very slow than before. It takes about 2,5 times longer, about 4 minutes. (After I shut it down and switch it on again, or when using a soft reset)
If I change it back again in the registry to "1" (Decimal) my phone starts up at normal speed..... (about 1,5 minutes)
Is this normal, or am I doing something wrong?
On WM6 I've noticed that it doesn't change no matter what value I set in the regsitry.
I've tested it and it works perfect for me:
Just delete the complete "STK_Service" key. After this I soft reset my phone. Make sure you have removed the STK Shortcut of course
If you want to restore the key I suggest you export the key before deleting it!
Thanks for the fast reply. Just tried and it works.
Btw, do you know how to get Fring working with Orange world / proxy?
I can't get past the initial registration due to the message: internet connection is not available.
I can use IE and browse the internet with no problems.
Sorry if it's not the right topic to post the question.
Indeed a bit off topic.. ..try searching the forum

haha thanx man! i was looking everywhere for this solution. I have a vodafone card and it keeps inserting a CytaVodaMENU in my start menu. deleting the registry value fixed my probs! thanx!

Half of my \Windows folder is gone....

Mods - I don't even know where to put this (although I've looked for similar posts, sites, wikis, you name it, I haven't seen it).
My touch screen doesn't work, I don't have a start menu that has anything in in except "Today." The rest is blank. It didn't disapear right away, either. My touch screen worked after one soft reset, and I still had the expected display of the start menu, but none of it worked. Somewhere in the middle of all that my .tsk changed to the default. After another reset, I am here:
No Start Menu (Today option only)
Default .tsk
No links from Ultimatelaunch to startmenu links work, but links to Programs themselves do (in Program Files)
No CommMgr via hdwe key, but my wifi was on when this all started, and keeps restarting, without recognizing my network (I just re-entered my WEP key)
the joystick works, and the keys do things, but the camera and CommMger keys can't find thier apps.
the joystick won't select my wifi bubble radio button, but otherwise works.
AEBPlus stopped working, so I can't get to my MortButtons to launch anything else.
Since I don't have a start menu, I don't have a file explorer I can get to (yet I have 3....)
Phone works (but only using hdwe keys)
I can't do much else (no screen print uless you want me to take a picture of it with my Wiza200)
I'm doing quick copy of my Program Files and App Data foldera to catch all the changes I did today, the rest is synced (but I'll copy what I can) via a Guest partnership, since the name of the device seems to be gone as well.
I was playing with assigning hardware keys, fisrt with AEBPlus, then I switched to Calligrapher's config mgr (I was trying to regain the functionailty of button 3 press&hold, which went away with assigning the other keys with AEBPlus). It was all I did, besides play a few audio files with Vito Audio Notes and Vito Sound Explorer, since my last reboot.
Prior to that I was trying to get my video streaming up & running this way:http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=FlashVideoBundle
, and I installed Vito Metronome (just to see. kind of a waste. KOOK K-met is better, even tiny on VGA), and MccMobile Finder, but had reset a few times to recheck my timing in a Mortscript to bring back my today screen after having MccMobileFinder and Vito Audio Notes launch on start up (niether of which will automatically minimize.)
I had just entered all my reg codes earlier today, and I know there are too many, so this sucks.
Are there any viri (viruses, I guess) that might do this? I mean, yeah, I can spend an hour or two (I'm afraid it might be more, since things go all complicated on me all too quickly) getting back to running, but what the *{^ ( |<* happened?
I hope I'm off my rocker for the moment and no one ever sees this happen to them. Any ideas?
New development: I loaded up, started doing a few things I need to do manually (I like to do my AEBPlus, and have never been successful at imprting Phonealarm setting), and lo, I soft reset, and the boot screen stcuk. The red boot characters went away, but the button lights never turned on.
Can anyone tell me if I should be sending it in to PPCTechs, or might this be a ROM (or software????) issue.
Any input is welcome.
Have you tried hard reset? If yes and still unsuccessful, try re-flashing the ROM.
something similar happened to me once when i banged my phone on something..
all shortcuts / programs dissappeared...
i only had 2 options in start menu..
did a hard reset and everythign was restored

(UPDATED 21-April-2010) HTC LOCKSCREEN Delay fix: Simple Reg edit

This thread is for those who use the HTC Lockscreen and who:
A) Like the slider at the top of the screen, but are looking for a fix for that pesky 3-4 second delay before it becomes responsive. For this method, you can either apply the reg edit below in "UPDATED FIX 1-Dec-2010 Registry Edit Fix", install the attached cab and follow the instructions in the "UPDATE 1-Jan-2010 paragraph" or install the startup exe. as per UPDATE 30-March-2010;
and for those who...
B) would like to flip the slider from the top to the bottom. For this, I highly recommend HeartofWolf's Lockscreen fix located here http://htcpedia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=363. There are plenty of mods that move the slider to the bottom, but the benefit of his cab is that the calendar notification icon disappears once a calendar event has expired. The downside for me is that the slider is resized a bit too skinny. If you install the cab and find the slider to be too small and would prefer the slider to be the normal oem size, I have modified the LS_Lockscene_480x800.cpr to do just that. Further in the mod, I have moved the slider up from the bottom to be at approximately thumb height. To install the modified LS_Lockscene_480x800.cpr:
1)You will first need to install HeartofWolf's Lockscreen fix V4, if you haven't already.
2)Download and unzip the LS_Scene_480x800_modification file below.
3) Move the LS_Scene_480x800.cpr file to your device and copy and paste it into the lockscreen folder located in File Explorer->Windows->Lockscreen.
4) Soft-Reset. You're done.
Note: If you install HeartofWolf's cab, there is no need to install the registry delay fix. Flipping the slider from top to bottom solves the delay. If you later uninstall the cab, you may lose the lockscreen. If that happens, no problem, just copy the original lockscreen files also attached below back into the Lockscreen file in File Explorer->Windows and soft-reset.
TIP: Slider Notifications
If you use the notification sliders to access missed calls, voicemail, email etc. , but wished the voicemail slider called your voicemail instead of taking you to your dialpad or the email slider went to your inbox instead of the manila tab, then take a look at the following thread by Da_G:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4268138&postcount=3

History and Updates
UPDATED 21-April-2010 Fixed each of the notification sliders' position in LS_Lockscene 480x800 so as not to overlap the unlock slider. When I moved the unlock slider up further from the bottom to be at approximate thumb height, I did not adjust the notification sliders up along with it. So, when you had more than one notification and the sliders dropped down, one or two would overlap the unlockslider. That has been adjusted.
UPDATED 30-March-2010 Thanks and big credits to Trueg who created a start up exe. that will run the reg edit at start up. The beauty of his exe is that in the past if you realigned your screen, on your next softreset, the delay would return, at which point you would have to reinstall the cab or reapply the reg edit and soft reset. What Trueg's exe. does is run the reg edit on each start-up. So each time you reset your phone, the reg edit that solves the delay automatically runs.
To install:
1. Download and unzip the "setFirstCal" file below.
2. Copy and paste the setFirstCal.exe inside your "StartUp" folder located in File Explorer->Windows->StartUp.
3. Softreset. Done.
If you choose this method, there is no need to install the cab or apply the reg edit. This will take care of everything for you.
UPDATED 1-Jan-2010 Cab file for Registry Edit is now available below. Credit and thanks to cduijker. After installing, please remember to soft reset. If for some reason the cab does not work for you, check to see if you have the registry setting as discussed below in the "UPDATED FIX 12/1/09". If you do not have the setting then it appears this fix is not the solution for you.
UPDATED 1-Dec-2010 Registry Edit Fix
For those who would like to fix the lockscreen delay, but would prefer to do so without having to hardreset or reflash, I have the fix for you. Before I begin I would like to give a BIG thanks and credit to kieboy for testing this edit and providing feedback!
Open your favorite registry editor and navigate to:
1) HKLM\Hardware\DeviceMap\Keybd
2) look for the entry named: FirstCalibration
3) If it's there, you can do one of two things 1) delete it or 2) as suggested to me by kieboy, you can change the dword value from 1 to 0.
4) softreset. To be sure, I recommend a manual softreset using your stylus opposed to a softreset program. I've tested this fix on a couple of roms and one of the softreset programs would not allow the fix to take.
5) bring up the lockscreen in "start", push the power button to turn the screen off (standby) and then back on. The slider should immedietely respond.
If it doesn't work, you can always realign your screen and the deleted or changed value should reappear after a softreset.
Please note: From time to time you may need to realign your screen. If you do, remember to go back into the registry and perform the edit again. The reason being is that manually aligning the screen creates the value "FirstCalibration", which appears, at least in part, to be the culprit causing the delay.
Also note that on occassion the slider gets stuck on one side or the other depending on which way you slide it. If it sticks, just tap the slider and it will unlock. Doesn't happen very ofter, but it does happen.
If you would like to solve the delay by avoiding the screen alignment process altogether after each hard reset or flash, please continue reading below.
November 22, 2009 Alternative Solution
The lockscreen delay is nothing new and has been defined around the forum as a 2-3 second delay between the time the device is woken up from standby and the time the slider becomes responsive to either unlock the device or access the slider notifications. Indeed, in the past there have been some excellent fixes: mindfrost82, tommy34 and heartofwolf, just to name a few. By in large, these fixes are edits to .Cpr files and in most cases no longer work, except for heartofwolf, on the newer manila 2.1 and 2.5 roms with the HTC Lockscreen. The heartofwolf fix, however, resizes the slider and puts it at the bottom of the screen, which at the time was the known protocol to fix the delay. It should be noted that using a password to unlock is a fix too. Some are not bothered by the delay while others are. I myself like the slider instantly responsive and accesible once the screen is on. If you fall into the latter category I may have a fix.
I believe the slider delay is the direct result of manual screen calibration or aligning the screen during initial set up after either a new rom flash or hard reset. If you skip the "welcome" process, i.e. screen alignment, date and time setting etc. you will also skip the process that creates the delay. What in manual screen alignment is linked to the delay is something I am looking into.
The solution, as I see it for now, is to skip or bypass the screen alignment process altogether. Some Chefs do this already, namely Dutty, to among other things speed up the set up process.
How to do it: there are a couple of ways you can find in the forum, however, one way is to:
1) Create a blank text file on your PC and name it, welcome.not Be sure it does not save as welcome.not.txt or it won't work. If so, remove the .txt.
2) Next, place the text file in the root of your storage card.
3) Now, flash a new rom or hard reset and you're done.
Another way:
1) Open file explorer on your device.
2) Go to the root directory of your storage card.
3) With your stylus or finger, tap and hold the screen and wait for the menu to pop open.
4) from th menu create a new file and name it welcome.not
5) Now you can hard reset or flash a new rom.
It's up to you whether you leave your SD in during flash. I do not. If you do not, after the rom flash, stick your SD in and hard reset. If all goes to plan, the "welcome" phase will be bypassed, and you will not be prompted to align the screen or set the date, location, time etc.
To test and see if there is no delay, once the device is set up, go to the start menu, press the lock button at the bottom of the screen. When the lock pops up, turn your screen off. Wait a second or two and turn it back on. The slider should respond instantly. NOTE: if you go into settings and manually align the screen, upon soft reset, the delay will be back.
The screen coordinates should load automatically after the bypass. If for any reason you need them, here are the Blackstone alignment coordinates from HKLM/Hardware/Devicemap/Touch/ Calibrationdata:
511,542 183,881 183,198 834,197 883,880.
S3
Thanks for the useful info!
I also don't like the delay in lockscreen slider, so at next flash I will test it.
EDIT: I tested it and works great!!!
Thanks!!!
I stopped calibrating my screen, because it seemed unnecessary. My screen seems to work flawlessly without it.
Btw - I'm using LIA 13.5 MobileShell version without manila. I didn't calibrate and I have no delay when it wakes up. You might be onto something!

@jolas, Excellent! Did you use a blank text file or a blank file folder inside the SD root?
@Rob, I was hoping someone who did this as a matter of course would post!

Wow super tip, thank you Sean3
The welcome.not empty file works for me on L26HDLEOV3 as well
The screen react the second it wakes

The file needs to be named welcome.not instead of welcome.not.txt. Just remove the .txt and you should be good to go.

the file is already named welcome.not. the ".txt" was to show that its a text file...
Edit: ok, you were right. now i removed the .txt bit.
gonna try again tomorrow.
Hope you can find the culprit for this delay for someone like me who cannot afford to do a hard reset..so troublesome. Thanks for the tip though.
I think I found it. See Edit at the top of post #1.
i don't have that key on my Hong Kong machine english rom.... I have done a calibration before and did it once more but it is still not there.. and yes i have about a 1 to 2 seconds delay... cheers...

Are you using an HD, HD2 or other? If HD, what rom are you using and what is the winmo and manila build? If you get a chance, could you list the keys that you do have?
good stuff - props given and sticky requested!
this definitly works....good work...should be added to the wiki
Thread has been stickied. Obviously if a permanent fix is already embedded into future roms or if this fix becomes obsolete I will remove it from being stickied

[TUT]Baby steps with ceregeditor - comparing for registry changes

A brief 'how to' about finding which registry keys control simple settings.
(There are other methods and software, but the principal of save file, make changes, compare to file is common throughout)
HKCR - Hot Key Classes Root - not really sure, never really looked though, i always ignore it.
HKCU - Hot Key Current User - Holds short term info and user settings for the most part. Expect lots of changes found when you search this branch.
HKLM - Hot Key Local machine - Generally hard system settings, pretty static.
Get 'ceregeditor' and install it,
connect the phone to usb and allow it to connect to activesync,
in ceregeditor click connection - connect, jump to tools - unlock registry
(skip this step unless you get an error pops up later saying you cant make changes)
Now, down the left you see your registry main keys in a standard tree layout, HKCR, HKCU, HKLM
and on the right, the keys and values within the selected branch when you select on the left.
So, you want to find out which registry key controls, for example, phone keypad tones, long, short, off.
Select HKCU on the left, right click and choose export - and save it as something, HKCU would be the obvious choice, it doesn't matter.
Do the same for HKLM.
It will save all the sub keys of wehatever you select on the left.
you can select to start from sub keys by selecting the appropriate key in the left column, assuming you know which part of the registry you want to search.
most hardware settings are held in HKLM, with things like user preffs found in HKCU, but be warned HKCU changes frequently, so expect a long list of changes when you run a registry compare.)
Once you have saved the files (in all honesty, i dont create them both, usually i check HKLM first, and if i dont find what im looking for only then do i check HKCU)
make your change on your phone
(set phonepad keytones to off, for instance) then back in ceregeditor, right click the selected registry key and choose reload selected.
This makes sure ceregeditor is now aware of the new registry value from the phone.
Now go to compare - compare registry.
It will ask you for a file, point it to the one you just saved, and let it run, , ,it will tell you what keys have changed.
You may occasionally get unconnected changes thrown up, but use a little common sense and you can usually tell what is usefull and what isnt.
In the results window, down the left are the items that have changed, with details of the change on the right.
In our example with the keytones, (not a great example since the target is in the HKCU and so is lost among lots of other changes) you should be able to figure out that the keytone settings are held in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds\Keypress beepmode
Its usually fairly obvious which is the key you are after amid the noise of random system state changes.
When you find your target, put a tick in the box and hit export. You can now save that key (or keys if there are several changes you want to save)
Save it as .cereg and you will be able to simply run that file on your phone to apply those settings.
Or, with wincecabmanager (my other recommended piece of software alongside ceregeditor) its easy to import the reg file into a cab. You can keep adding to that cab as you find and extract more personalised settings.
Keep it in your autoinstall folder on your sd card, and it will always be applied when you hard reset.
My own 'my tweaks.cab' file is fat with various settings, tweaks, etc and i still add to it regularly.
It's true that it's often easier to trawl <searchengine></searchengine> and find the answer, and maybe even a cab to turn it on and off, but its a nice way to start p0king at your registry and seeing how things work, plus you can make one cab for yourself, adding tweaks one by one, without remembering to store loads of different ones and re apply them when you restore/hard reset.
you know, i've never thought of exporting the whole hkcu or hklm directory before. i'm going to have to try that. it'll be interesting to read through a lot of that.
I too have a registry tweak CAB for both my Wizard & Rhodium. Haven't made one for the HD2 yet, since most of the tweaks I've made were through one of the many different tweaking apps.
also, what's this about an autoinstall folder?
*edit* disregard the last part. I always use official roms so the autoinstall doesn't apply
