I have an sx56 originally working wiht AT&T. I flashed the rom with 4.05 and it works fine except for some system halts. Also the screen backlight sometimes goes off and never goes on again until I soft rest it.
I live in Egypt and use vodafone coverage. are there any updated roms to use. will the 4.11 4.16 or 4.21 work with me or not. formerly I was using ppc2002 and working fine, and now running 4.05 and still working but with minor problems, can I upgrade or what.
you havn't specified, but it looks like you are using Tmobile's radio stack and rom. I have tried several and came up with the best rom for egypt which is the Qtek RS and rom. if you need anything else contact me on 0122200666
Hi guys ... nice to see few egyptians here
I have a friend needs help. He got a SIM-locked T-mobile XDA with 32 MB RAM orginally loaded with ROM 3.14 and RSU 6.20 for T-mobile.
I managed to unlock his XDA and upgrade the ROM to 4.00.05 ENG. The problem is with the RSU ... I tried the O2 4.21 and Qtek 3.25 but still doesn't get Mobinil signal. I tried to change the band to 900/1800 and 900 only and still no signal (did not try Vodafone though).
Could there be any firm ware problem or I miss a minor actoin.
I would appreciate giving more details on your XDAs and the steps and ROM, RSU versions you used. My mobile is 012-3147866 or e-mail [email protected] ... thanks in advance.

yes you can upgrade to 4.00.16 and your bug will disappear, however there will still be some annoying stuff as the WM2003 is still a pre-release..but the 4.00.16 doen't bug me like the 4.05.
[/b]bisooo....as for you, not sure if I have good news...but try it on vodafone and tell me what is going on....

Does that mean u actually get vodafone signal ?? ... what RSU version are you using plz
Samer: Thanks for the reply anyway ... actually the XDA dosn't sense any network coverage (manual network selection). So I believe I 'm using the wrong RSU or its firmware is locked for T-mobile. You wrote in your signature that you still have RSU 6.18 ... does that work in Egypt ?!
bisooo,
don't jump to conclusions...first of all let me assure you that most Tmobiles and SimensSX65 and QTeck and ALL XDAs work in Egypt. I have had a couple of them, bought a good number for a couple of friends....they are all working fine. ofcourse unlocked...
So lets start by some simply question first, before I go on with those questions one very important question though did you by any chance while in 'calender' bootloader mode i.e. GSM options ...did you press ANY THING OTHER THAN THE 900 or THE 900/1800 BUTTON??
this is very important....
now.. for the questions:
1. tell me how you unlocked the device...
2. where you bought it from...
3. is it an 'A' model or a 'B' model.
other questions will follow, just plug me in with the headlines firs!..
Dont worry..
Samer,
1st thanks again for your thoughtfulness ... happy to tell you that I finally managed to let it work ... I installed T-mobile RSU 6.24 and it got the signal. I just handed it to my friend 10 minutes ago and he was sooo glade
one last question plz and this is for MY device. I heard lots of complains about ROM 4.00.16 and 4.00.21 ... did you find any value for them over the 4.00.11 one (new features, bugs fixed, ... etc)
thanks again
bisooo,
not sure as I upgraded from 4.05 so I havn't had the chance,, my opinion is as long as it's a prerelease we might as well wait a while and get something more dependable than what is in our hands...but from reviews around i think that the 4.11 is ok...
just curious, how did you unlocke your friends device? any method other than the manipulator?
Also, have you tried to put together a local car kit for the set... I am thinking of making one locally and wanting some advice on the topic..
take care...
Samer,
For unlocking, I upgraded the XDA first to ROM 3.17 from the kitchen ... when it starts, it asks u if you want to unlock then you say yes ... for my device as it had ROM 3.18 I copied the XDAunlock.exe to the device and ran from there.
For the car kit, I believe I saw a topic here talked about converting a cradle to a car kit ... it has all details with pics too!!. Search under the accessories forum.
Good luck ...
hi biso007,
hope I am not disturbing you...but finding someone from Egypt who knows about the device is good...
anyway ..I remeber you upgraded your friend's radio stack to 6.24 ! and rom 4.00.21 . Is he encountering any problems with SMS...I am having the weiredest bug ever with my upgraded rom. I receive SMS but can't send them. when changing the sim card to vodafone isntead..everything works perfect. tried all the tricks of sending from different places and excluding the international code from the message service number....etc. nothing is working..
I would like also to know if you have faced any problems while working around with installing different Radio versions for your friend's device?? did you encounter any difficulty there??
thanks a million, :?
Hello there;
I am very sorry not to reply to you earlier, but I had to travel immediately after my post and could not find the time there to get to the forum and see the replies.
I am very happy to hear from you, and to share each other's experiences about this great device.
I am still running the 4.05, still have the problems but I can live with it. I was considering to upgrade to .16 or 21, but decided to wait till we have a real release not a prerelease versions.
I am running radio version A.20.10, I use vodafone, and I had absolutely no problems with sms. I do not have experience with mobinil in this subject.
By the way I downloaded a midi player and tried to use midi files as ring tones to save ram space, but the sound is very poor. Does anybody know how to improve the sound of midi tones on the xda.

Up to my information, the XDA MIDI player is not capable to play MIDI files that use more than 4 insturments. So, either to get tones in this specs, or if you have the knowledge you can use any MIDI editor and disable some tracks.

I wonder how a smart phone running symbian or other operating systems with a total memeory of 4 MB, can play polyphonic and midi tones perfectly and the xda cannot ??
I used a midi editor to reduce the number of tracks, and even used a single track midis and the result is still poor. anymore ideas !!!

2003SE Upgrade for Orange M1000 (UK)
Hi fellow M1000er,
Just found out yesterday that the 2003se rom was available (Hadn't been on the web for a while) and decided to risk installing the beastie even though there has been a relatively large number of issues with it.
If you have read the 'Official 2003 SE Released' thread you will probably know that there are two or three main versions.
I got mine working with 'Mystery Man's 2.06 OS Rom version and Maimaich's 1.18 Radio version. djrm supplied the Orange Extended rom.
dcs supplied LOTS of helpful info too.
Many many thanks to all four of you!
I haven't fully tested it yet (got it working this morning at 4:30) but I checked the main complaints from other users (SD card works fine, Activesync over Bluetooth works fine, Send/Receive messages fine, Phone doesn't automatically go into speakerphone when answering, and a few more)
Really pleased with the result.
I have zipped up the whole bundle (FOR ORANGE UK ONLY) which I used to upgrade my M1000 and have attached it. (the 24 megger)
(***** NOTE This original file was corrupt - See my next post for proper version *****)
Just unzip this file to a dir - cradle the M1000, then run HimaUpgradeUt.exe and wait (for around an hour - at least you get progress bars!)
The only thing I'm not sure of is the Intellidialer - I have never come across this before, and the general opinion seems that it is good, but I must say it looks a bit naff compared to the default dialer. - I guess I'll persevere for a while, but if I don't like I'll prob cook another Extended Rom with the original dialer instead.
Also - you will have to enter the details for Orange GPRS (http://www.filesaveas.com/gprs.html) and for MMS you have to copy the attached i-mate_PPC_Orange_UK_Contract.CAB file to your PDA and run it. (If I had time I would have included it in the Extended Rom).
Once this has been run - you have to go into MMS settings, click on servers and edit Orange MMSC by simply adding / to the server address so that it looks like:
http://mms.orange.co.uk/
(Can't remember who posted this fix - but thanx whoever you are!)
Let me know if you have any problems.
(p.s. if you use Microsoft Reader much - you will have to download the installer from http://www.microsoft.com/reader/downloads/ppc.asp)
The only bugs I have noticed so far is the Headset Profile on the Today screen, and the Bluetooth Icon on the taskbar have a habit of going invisible (but are still clickable).
The zip attached seems to be corrupt
WHOOOPS! - USE THIS ONE!
Sorry about that - Didn't realise the file hadn't fully uploaded when I attached it. (Chopped off at 14Meg - that's what happens when you have been up all night tinkering with technology, feeling a little spaced from lack of sleep!)
THIS is the file to use. Unzip this - run the HimaUpgradeUt.exe file.
If you are interested in MMS - install the CAB attached in the last post AFTER upgrading, then make the tweak to the settings I mentioned above.
Best of Luck & Enjoy!

Out of interest, how have you found the mystery man ROM? I used it for about a week and it seemed really buggy, so I installed the dcs version 2.02t and I have found it flawless for nearly a month now. The handsfree option works brilliantly with my Bluetrek G2 and the phone overall just seems more stable than any other ROM I have tried. What are everyone else's opnions on this, I have read the posts on 2.02 vs 2.06 but it would be interesting to hear views from Orange UK M1000 users specifically!
Cheers,

Is it possible to reset your original rom in the case of needing to return the phone to Orange?
Yeah, just reflash the phone with their crappy 1.66 ROM from the Orange website and all will be restored. You might possibly have a country code error unless the headers have been changed properly on the SE ROM files. That can be easily fixed though, search the forum and there are loads of posts on it, the best one is dcs's guide.

2.06 or not 2.06, that is the question.....
Hi Fin,
Thanks for your post - My SE install is only a day old so I haven't fully experienced it yet. Did seem to stick a little at times, but I thought that maybe had something to do with the fact I have slapped Wisbar Advance 2 on top and skinned it up to the max. Will try running it bare for a while - see how I get on.
I did notice, however, that when I tried to make a call this morning that it said the phone was off and did I want to switch it on. (And it wasn't in flight mode - weird).
Can you let me know which issues you had with 2.06, and which ones were resolved in 2.02? (Also, any problems with 2.02? - I don't imagine any of these roms are without their own little nig's)
This is my first flash and was just chuffed to get SE working on it, but I appreciate the advice of people with more experience in these things.
I have DCS's 2.02t - if you can def recommend then I will def switch over.
Cheers,

Personally I found fewer problems with 2.02 but i have heard people who think 2.06 is better. The only problem i have had with 2.02 is that the bluetooth profile disappears but you don't need it on 2.02 as when a headset is connected it connects automatically if it is set to a handsfree device.
I also get the impression that a lot of the problems people have had with either ROM is to do with their extended ROM, people seem to be putting all kinds of incompatible stuff in there. I am using a slightly modified version of the ROM found in the following post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=13621&highlight=
BTW it was me who solved the MMS issue for Orange UK, you know what they say, if you don't blow your own trumpet then no one else will
Fin
Aha - so it was you, eh Fin?
Well - thanks V much for that!
If you don't mind me asking - what was the slight modification you made to the Extended ROM (That's the one I'm using too, but made no changes).
Anything major? Some apps specific to you or just a splash screen change?
I'll prob see how this 2.06 goes for a week, and if anything bugs me too much - I'll try the 2.02.
(Don't think I'm gonna touch the 2.20 Chinese ROM which is doing the rounds at the mo - my oriental is a little rusty! )
Keep up the good work!

xbackup will not work properly if you flash your phone, so yes, you will have to reinstall all your apps again, but why not put some of them in the extended rom so it's not such a hassle next time you hard reset!

I have been using this build for about a week now, and all seems to work quite well, there are some problems mainly with the Today page having items disappear......I personally do not find that very annoying and everything else seems to work well, seems very stable ......I really like the intellidialer and feel thats a big improvement.
Thanks once again for releasing this

Hi,
I haven't yet tried the update, but would like to know if somebody has tried Sprite backup and Tomtom Navigator 3 on W2003SE. I would like to update my M1000 with this version of W2003SE. Any feedback on this will be much appreciated.
Thanks

Hi all you fellow Orange users, we need to get together on MSN Messsenger and have a good old chat..
My personal experiences are as follows :-
Tried 2.02 first, this was great and worked a treat with the orange ext_rom, had this for a while until i got my BT headset, then the problems started...
This ROM doesn't have headset profile and thus the mic on the BT headset would not work so i went back to 1.66 for a while.
Tried 2.20.07CHS Translated, this was better, everything worked but the fonts were a bit dodgy and some of the translation wasn't complete, so back to 1.66
Finally settled on 2.06 with a customised ext_rom with my own additions personal to me ! (all available here), this has a great BT headset mode wear my BT headset works fine, the BT activesync (a must once you've had it) works fine, you can even access the internet over it) thus doing away with my wifi card.... and with my customisations, everything is as near perfect as we'll get.
The only problem i have is that the BT headset today plugin tends to play hide and seek occationally.
Hope these options are of use to people, i love this M1000, even better now that we have WM2003SE.
Oh and hello to all the Orange users out there.
Hi guys,
First off, let me say thanks for this. I was getting a headache reading all the threads on the subject.
I was wondering if anyone else has had a problem with GPRS after the update? I have checked all the settings against the website suggested in the original post and even another phone. Everything looks identical to what it should be but it just will not connect.
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks
O2 XDA II to Orange SPV M1000
Hi,
Sorry, I'm quite new to flashing ROM's etc.
I have an O2 XDA II, i am now with Orange and would like to give my XDA II a nice Orange feel to it. Is it possible to flash my XDA II with an Orange ROM. has anyone done this? I just wondered if they were successful or is doing this going to render my device useless??
Thanks in advance

There are quite a few people I have spoken to who have done what you want to do, and in principle it will be absolutely fine- XDA2 and M1000 are exactly the same device. The only issue will be a country code error- if you don't know what that is, it's an operator code that will not allow an upgrade of new software from a different network. To get round this you need to use a piece of software (xda2nbftool)which will set the country code on the upgrade to O2 (your current operator setting I assume) so that you can install the Orange version of the ROM which is floating about this forum. If you need any help with this, let me know and I will help you as much as I can. The only Orange customisation stuff is in the Extended ROM, and there are just a few CAB files that add all the Orange crap like settings,Orange Update/Backup etc.

I updated from http://www.my-xda.com/xda2i_soft2.html but didn't get the new radio version, and got the .169 rom version that is supposedly so bad.
Sooooo ummmm......What do you think is going on?
Is anyone else chaseing this, because due to major family problems I just don't have time at the moment! I can't afford to re-flash my Xda again, it can't be out of action!
**Edit - I did this yesterday. They could have fixed it since.
Not you going wrong, O2 have withdrawn the 1.11.170 ROM because of the connection and stability issues mentioned elsewhere on this site.
If you want stability and don't use Blackberry, use the ROM I made that can be found on this site. Have a look in the few recent threads here and you will find them.
Sorry to hear about your problems, hope they're sorted soon for the better.
Take care of yourself,
PUG.
I had got confused. I'll try it after christmas, once things have settled down. I'll just have to put up with no bluetooth for now
Will my warrenty/insurance be valid if I use an unoffical ROM?
Officially yes but there's always way around that.
O2 do state that only ROMs released by themselves are supported but those of us who have customised their 2i's know that most of the problems with the 2i are down to O2's software in the extended ROM causing the problems.
More often than not, most companies like that will not worry about what ROM is on the phone so long as it was released officially by a company for an Alpine device and it's not a cooked WM5 when it's never been released if you know what I mean.
Anyway, good luck and Merry Christmas.
Pug
I must say that after the last rom upgrade (69) was released and I had problems with it, o2 data support actually recomended that I install the rom from this site!! So that should tell us all something, should it not!?!?!?
Rom Updates...
Pug is spot on - .169 caused my BT headset to play up no end, but rather than re-flash to the vanilla .162 rom, I used Pug's with the 1.04 radio. This is the best of the available 02 roms, imho. BT fine, and the radio upgrade improves signal strength and clarity - nice one, Pug! BTW I also downgraded Caller ID, which solved my GPRS connection issues, and fitted a bigger battery. I am now happy to use my Alpine as my only phone, which was the plan in the first place...
Merry Xmas all

Then they say to people that to do so would invalidate their warranties. I just shout at them and tell them exactly what I want them to do for me, that sorted my last problem, didn't give them chance to read the script that said "hard reset". Wish they'd all sing from the same hymn sheet. Still, you pay peanuts you get monkies don't you.......
I actully got o2data support to send me a copy of 162 rom on a disk as they did not have it on their website, so I can always reflash back to that if I need to send the xda in for repair during it's warrenty. Thinking about it, is it worth me putting this (162) rom on the ftp site so anyone can reflash with it?
Please do, I am about to get a 2i and I plan to experiment as soon as I get it but I would like the .162 ROM to fall back on as it seems to be the most stable official release,
Thanks
Sorry it has taken a couple of days (but it is xmas   ) but I have put the 1.11.162 official o2 rom on the ftp site (ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Uploads/Alpine/) I have uplaoded a .rar and the .exe versions hope they may be of some use to you.

I updated from this file aswell, and my Radio downgraded(?) to 1.00!
Not only this, but I applied the TomTom 5.21 upgrade at the same time, and TomTom stopped working - well, it started to lose the gps connection when i had the speaker cable for my GPS cradle plugged in and TomTom emitted a sound!
I reinstalled TomTom back to 5.1, and still got the problem, so I hard reset the XDA - same problem still!
I have now installed the .162 ExtRom with 1.04 Radio, and this seems to have solved the problem as far as TomTom is concerned, even with the latest 5.21 update. The real test will be tomorrow when I take her indoors to work in the morning, as so far (due to the snow!) I have only tested TomTom sat stationary outside the house!
Getting back to the point, though, I think I will be giving the .169 ExtRom a miss from now on!
UPDATE : I've finally gotten out and about in the car, and Installing the .162 ExtRom has solved my TTN5 problem
I love my XDA II. What a great bit of kit. I use it mainly for the use of TomTom in my car but would love to be able to use the voda SIM card I have (xda is unlocked) in order to browse the net and make calls if I have to, etc.
The problem is that When a sim card is inserted, I get all manner of problems with TomTom. Either I'll get "No maps found" or "Your device is not compatible with this version" or whilst driving along, the roads will disappear altogether.
Ive spent about three nights searching through posts and cannot find a similar problem. Can somebody please set me straight as to what's happening? Can I not use a SIM card in my XDA? (seems a bit poor if thats the case) or is it a question of needing to upgrade something in order for everything to work properly??
I should add that without the SIM inserted, everything works brilliantly.
Thanks in advance

Ok, I'm fed up now. My Tytn is dropping a ridiculous amount of calls lately, and I'm tired of it. I've set it to use GSM/GPRS only, so it's not an issue of switching between 2G and 3G.
My current ROM info is in my signature. I've been avoiding going to another ROM because I would never be able to go back to the original Tytn one if I wanted to. But now, I'm ready. I'm tired of the dropped calls.
So, with that being said... please, give me your suggestion of what ROM I should upgrade to.
Many thanks in advance,
SP111
Sleuth,
If you happen to read this, I'm interested in hearing about your setup as shown in your sig.
I'm using Dopod's Rom (Not the AUS one), it's quite good, snappy responsive. Once a while crashes if i leave wifi on over night, otherwise very stable. as for voice quality, it's amazing, havn't had problems with dropped calls. Before you change ur rom, i'd suggest u check that it's ur provider and not your fone. when u sure it's ur fone, try the dopod rom.
SP111,
I am experiencing the same problem. I am using the 8525. I changed SIM cards and that did not help much.
Hope to see what others think...

Put you SIM card in another phone (Nokia OR SE) and see if you face same problem, if yes, then it is RADIO signal problem in your Area. Otherwise the choice is in your hand to proceed for ROM upgrade on TyTn for Radio only. (See WiKi Pages for ROM Upgrade Radio Ver. 1.20.31.10).
why dont you try the new ROM 1.35????.
there are good comments about it. I will upgrade my vodafone v1605 to it..

For me is was a matter of which provider I used. I switched to another (from Tele2 to Telenor, if you're Norwegian ) and I never had that problem again...
Sorry, I should have been more clear about one point... I still have my Cingular 2125 (HTC Faraday) as well as my old Audiovox SMT5600, and I have tested these phones with my SIM, and do NOT experience problems with dropped calls. So I'm pretty sure it's the Tytn.
My TyTN is on Cingular. I've never had a dropped call. I do have some issues picking up calls though. Interestingly, I the same issues with my Cingular 8125 (wizard).
