I have a Nokia 9500. My pda use is 50% and phone 50%. I wish to buy JASJAR. Please help me with a few questions:
1. How is the voice quality and volume on external/ phone side of the phone? Pl compare with 9500 as a benchmark. Is it louder? I work in a noisy environment.
2. I am told phone wakes after 3 rings if in powersave mode. Is it true? Can I disable powersave?
3. Can I pick an incoming call without opening the cover if I do not wish to see caller id?
4. How is the speed compared to 9500? I have 3000 Contacts and 500 calendar entries. It takes a long time to search on 9500. 5-20 seconds
5. How is the phone signal reception. Compare with 9500.
6. Can you send fax from JJ? I do it regularly from 9500.
7. How is messaging?
8. Build quality, especially hinge? One has to open and rotate frequently, because no external phone keypad.
9. Did anybody try bluetooth headset Sony HBH-300?
10. There is no escape key. if I make a type mistake while editing can I come out without saving?
11. Handsfree speaker sound quality?
12. when phone rings there is no light on receive button. Does it really hamper receiving in dark? Of course one can open the screen!
13. Battery? How long does the charge last?
14. When U close cover blue tooth shuts but LED says it is on. Is it true? Is it a nuisance?
I to have been searching for suffice information, for i will be wanting to purchase the JJ within the next week. What are the downsides to the phone? And i was reading somewhere that a headset(wireless)comes with the phone?
If not-which is the best bt-headset for this phone?I have heard the bt-800 from jabra.
Regards
Keyboard quality of JaSJAR
And, how is the keyboard? tactile feedback? ruggedness and long lasting?
i have the jj & using it for 6 months now, i will answer the Qs that i can, the ones i don't have the answer i'll leave blank.
hope this would help.
1. How is the voice quality and volume on external/ phone side of the phone? Pl compare with 9500 as a benchmark. Is it louder? I work in a noisy environment.
i cannot compare it to the 9500 since i never owned one, but i can say the sound quality is pretty good since i'm using it for a while now.
2. I am told phone wakes after 3 rings if in powersave mode. Is it true? Can I disable powersave?
you can do that through a third party software, tweaks 2k2 is a very usefull.
3. Can I pick an incoming call without opening the cover if I do not wish to see caller id?
yes you can, just press the answer button on the side.
4. How is the speed compared to 9500? I have 3000 Contacts and 500 calendar entries. It takes a long time to search on 9500. 5-20 seconds
i heard some 9500 - 9300 users say that the jj is better in search feature, but i cannot confirm for that amount of contacts (i don't know anyone that has that much)
5. How is the phone signal reception. Compare with 9500.
6. Can you send fax from JJ? I do it regularly from 9500.
yes you can through a third party app, but i can say this: the 9500 has the best fax service i've ever seen or heard about.
7. How is messaging?
you can handle it professionally which i can say from others experiences is better than the 9500.
8. Build quality, especially hinge? One has to open and rotate frequently, because no external phone keypad.
after using it since early october, the rotation is still the same with no loose, and i use it daily.
9. Did anybody try bluetooth headset Sony HBH-300?
i tried most of the brands available in the market, the two best headsets i found are the jabra and the SE, in terms of quality. i didn't try the hbh-300 though, i tried the hbh-608.
10. There is no escape key. if I make a type mistake while editing can I come out without saving?
11. Handsfree speaker sound quality?
also i found this a very good quality since it has sterio sound system, with two speakers. though, i ran into some unsatisfied users from time to time.
12. when phone rings there is no light on receive button. Does it really hamper receiving in dark? Of course one can open the screen!
you can put it on vibration
13. Battery? How long does the charge last?
i charge it normally every 3 days of usage (at least) sometimes longer, but eventually it depends on your usage.
14. When U close cover blue tooth shuts but LED says it is on. Is it true? Is it a nuisance?
i hope this can help.
at the end you have to test it for your self to see whats best for you.
cheers.

Well is there a test number on this site to connect to someone to make sure the video cam works?

Well i just got my i-mate JASJAR(BRAND NEW AND UNLOCKED!!!) and i am well beyond pleased!size is alright ,but hey!this is like the prototype of whats to come within the next couple of years! Its like when the first handheld Cellphone came out!Big as PHUCK!but then reduced its size over the years,Same thing with the pocketpc, starting big and will eventually reduce in size...im lucky because i did not get all of the skype,anti-virus extras-just the basics (meaning everything but the junk!)and all of the hardware(meaning chargers etc.)
The person i bought mine from is David of Mad Monkey Boy Gadgets. He put up with over 25 hours of telephone conversation and over 65 emails within a 2 week time span from me!and never once did he get angry or anything of the nature!
Here is the link if you would like to check out his site:

I have the german T-Mobile MDA-Pro with D1. (whytf can't I specifly that in my profile ?) I experience some strange thing with it. When I pick up the phone when someone calls me (by pressing the green phone button) it takes a while until the other side can hear me.
So whenever I answer a call (by pressing that green phone button) I will have to wait 5-8 seconds after the buttonpress until I say something or else the other side wont hear what I say and still thinks I havent answered the phone yet.
Yes! indead...I've got the same problem. is it a software bug?
I too have the same problem, and sometimes it hangs up the call even when I press the green button.
I've posted before and everyone has said 'Use the search'...I have and can't find anything relevent (don't think the search facility of this is very good).
Can someone PLEASE point us.
I really do miss the speed and efficiency of my XDA2s!
I have had some experience of this, it does delay mine was worse before I got rid of all th O2 tat, it is now liveable with, however it is cutting off when I press the answer button !!! OR IS IT after conducting tests using another mobile I found out that
1) the phone does not take very long before O2 divert the call to Voicemail
2) the phone starts ringing long before you know anything about it (its worse if the phone is asleep) it can be a good few seconds before it makes any indication noises
3) it carries on playing the ringtone after the call has been diverted which gives the impression that pressing the answer button is futile.
I have talked to the technical suppport of t-mobile germany and they told me they era aware of this issue and they will be releasing an update in Q12006 that will resolve this issue.
I have talked to the technical suppport of t-mobile germany and they told me they are aware of this issue and they will be releasing an update in Q12006 that will resolve this issue.
I too have this problem and for the moment while i await any future fixes from O2 or others, i am using the following short-term fix; Under phone settings I have changed the delay period before calls are forwarded to ansafone if unanswered (this works on O2 anywa). One problem with this is that callers may give up before they are diverted to ansafone if you set the delay too long
did this really resolve the issue I was talking about in my initial post ? (that when I pick up the phone by pressing the green button the caller can not hear me for the fist 10 seconds )
I have XDA Exec and kept getting confused why my GF always sounded confused and puzzled when I answered the phone, Id say "hello" and she would wait a while, then say "Hello? you there?"
I never realised it was MY phone that was cutting off my voice at the start of the call.
In regards to the delay ringing, and answering etc, I am giving all my friends instructions to bloody well keep ringing! I turn answerphone off normally as my phone is always on. If you want to speak to me, keep ringing till i answer, if I dont want to talk, ill reject the call.
Why ring twice and hang up? I could be doing anything that takes more than 2 seconds to get that damn phone out of my pocket, get it out the case, open it, see who is calling, press the button, damn, missed call.
Same problem here. I am seriously thinking about using this as just a PDA. I don't think it's practical to use a phone that only works some times. Somebody on HoFo said that the Universal isn't meant to be used as a phone, it can, but it isn't meant to be. I'm starting to agree.
I just like the idea of not having to carry around a phone AND a pda. I kind of hoped that's what the universal offers. But it kind of looks like it doesn't ...
Its a great phone when used as a hands free device, answers almost straight away, and has great volume unlike most hands free - my callers also comment that the line quality is excellent even if a few metres away from the phone.
I do always feel stupid though when using the phone as a standard phone, would feel more comfy putting a brick to my head.
I use the old phone ringer as my incomming call notifictaion and I hear my phone in plenty of time. The standard o2 incoming notification sound was useless. I don't know what T Mobile have but might be worth trying a different notification sound.
Cheers

Did anybody found a solution for this? this is very annoying.
Agreed, its just ridiculously slow - I worry whether or not I've hung up on people too, it takes a good few seconds before the line is actually dropped, let alone for the interface to update.
I've stopped using the "suspend" option and the phone seems to work like you'd expect (even on a cheap cell phone!). But the battery life is suffereing. Hopefully my new spare battery should be here soon.

You mean I should walk around with some spare batteries in my pockets.
I think my pockets are too small for so many things.
Does anybody knows if this problem is known to HTC? Is there going to be an update?
It isn't possible that a phone doesn't act like a phone in these features that are already working 100 years. I want to pick up my phone and talk immediatly
By the way how do I switch off the "suspend" mode?
What is the "suspend" mode and how do I switch it off?
Look at Settings>Systems Tab>Power>Advanced Tab
Uncheck to "Turn off device if not used.."
This will stop the "suspend" mode
eeek ! Now I know why I would need an extra battery ....
Just a thought, i know that symbian phones have a software which utilize the accelerometer and mutes the phone call when turned over. is it possible to have a software to use the fort facing camera or back camera in our wm6 devices to detect light during the even of an incoming phone call? it doesnt need to be on all the time so it does not drain the battery and just turned on during phone calls. so front facing camera should detect either "dark-light-dark" (when in pocket) or "light-dark" when the phone is already out. hope that make senses.
what do you guys think? is it a good idea?
not sure if camera can be used for that purpose at all. I think u need extra hardware for that.
When a phone call is coming in the device has to take care of the following actions:
-device wake up
- initiate the incoming call screen
- start number identification (compare to address book)
- start ringer
Your idea would add the following actions:
- initiate (front)camera
- wait for camera to detect current lightning conditions
- if lighting is below a certain value mute sound
I would think that it takes to long to go trough the complete cyclus.
When you make a call to a PocketPC it takes about two "normal" rings to make a device ring. If you add the extra feature it might even be 4 or 5. Before you can even react the caller might already be redirected to the voice mail I'm afraid.
i thought of that mccune, but u will need another program to analyze the bringhtness, may be a new library, or tap into camera library, which I dont think it's easy to do.
you are right, it's probably not idea to execute camera function while phone ringing, worst case scenario the phone hang, or the call got disconnected.
but i love to see it works
well i see it that if the front camera activate when there is an incoming video call then wm6 should be able to handle just detecting the light effect without hanging. just a thought, at least its a start for all of us that do not have accelerometer and it can be develop for some other use too.
Hey guys i have a few questions, i'm going to buy an xperia x1a in about two weeks or so.
People are saying when the phone goes on stand by, it disconnects you from windows live messenger. Does this happen because of what you're connected to?(edge,gprs,3g,hsdpa,wifi) Or does it have to do with software? I'm mainly going to use edge on it, will i face this disconnect problem? Is there any fix to this problem? I like being on windows live messenger all day
Does anyone live near Boston Massachusetts using the t-mobile network? If so, how is you're signal reception there and the call quality?
Someone said, when someone calls him, he cant hear the person for about 2 seconds or so. is this happening to everyone's? or was it just his?
Are there any other problems i should be aware of before i buy it? :O
let me see,

I think it will only disconnect while using WiFi, because the wireless network adapter shuts off when the phone goes into standby.

you can change this behavior using advanced config, just tick enable wifi in standby mode.
one imp. problem you should keep in mind that.. xperia has very low volume in speaker.. so if you are on bike or walking on the road or bazar.. it will be hard to listen ring....
battery doesnt last for a single day too if you are using couple of softwares
rest everything is find with xperia x1
mine last for 2 days
but then i don't have wifi on when
it's off and don't have a active data connection
with 3g
I don't think the ring volume will be a problem, my phone is usually on silent
When you're calling someone, does the volume sound very low or is it normal?
most folks find x1 external speaker a little soft
yeah both ring tone and vibration is pretty soft imho
at times i don't notice recieving sms'r or even a call
when having the phone in my pants pocket
well my x1 is brilliant, ecspecially with itjes touch it wm6.5 rom.
Battery lasts about 2 days, i listen to the music on it for about three hours a day and i make 2-6 hrs worth of calls.
no cracks in my case...(yet). mine is one of the newer built x1's and is holding up well. no problems with answering a call. i can hear the other person fine, no delays.
speaker is quite low, but i feel the vibration even when im running or summat.
Any more questions? fire them my way.
a couple more questions please
I was thinking of getting x1a
I saw 2 speakers (one on each side towards bottom) in manual I downloaded at Sony USA, Is it so?
Any idea if Inesoft phone, Adobe 2.0 & ListPro show up okay on the WVGA
Thanks a lot
i believe it disconnects when the screen is turned off
Outcast,
I do not use LiveMessenger that often, but I use it once during travel, for more than three hours, and it worked perfectly.
Since I passed a great distance, I changed a lot of cell station and GPRS/EDGE/HSDPA worked seamlessly..
Inesoft works.

it doesnt for me(wifi) , and i can copy/install/play internet radio/messanger/etc with it in stand by mode .
and yes the batt is pretty sucky cuz it gets warm when u use the phone in charge , and i guess it damages itself by the heat , but u should consider getting a 1800mah Mugen battery like im doing .
other than that , its a really cool phone .
also , the screen may not be as big as some other phones(iphone, touch hd) , but it doesnt give u the feeling ur holding an oven pan either
Sure it has a lovely screen.
Sure the build quality is nice.
Sure the internet browsing is fantastic.
Now the basic functions of the phone:
Texts are delayed and, I kid you not, often go to a different person in your contacts list!!!
Phonecalls are terrible. The earpiece volume is SO loud it is deafening, you need to raise the volume and then lower it on every single call in order to get a low volume. This is an extremely tedious process.
Speakerphone is unusable in anything but a noisy environment. It is WAY too loud, even on the lowest setting. It also distorts like crazy.
Hard keys on bottom only light up *after* you have pressed them.
CoPilot Live is rubbish!!! Unusable. Takes you the wrong route time and time again.
Calendar snooze time is set at 5 mins and impossible to edit for longer.
The camera is actually very good, despite all this talk of it being poor and the pink colour in the centre. It's all the *basic* phone problems which make this the worst mobile phone I have ever used.
Is this just my handset? Have I got a faulty one????
Unfortunately you are right, I am having the same issue. I don't care about the Camera.. I just need to perfrom the basic phone features.
Hopefully HTC is reading us.
We are still using the first Stock ROM which is obviously buggy and it is expected.
However, HTC should hurry up and come up with a new upgrade and Hotfix patches, else, I will seriously consider selling the device. I can't wait more than two other weeks.
only problem with mine is the camera...none of the other issues you say you have...
to bad
People said the same things with the blackstone and diamond, magic, atom, kaiser etc etc etc. Is this your first HTC? last phone a nokia? For every problem you stated there's a solution, reg tweaks, programs what ever. This is my 5th htc device, they all start out like crap but once their tweakt they are superior to any other phone. But once again out of the box it's no nokia.
Good luck and good hunting (for the tweaks)
Um... slight exageration... there a couple niggles so its the worst phone ever? I think its the best phone ever, with a few niggles.
I dont have a problem with my texts being delayed. It lags a little bit when there are loads of texts, but I just clear them out. (one niggle I would like fixing though)
The speaker volume for me is perfect, yes it is loud, but I just keep it turned down and its fine, but it also means if I need to I can turn it up! which is a much better than not being able to have it loud enough. (Fine the way it is)
Speakerphone is supposed to be loud?! again, set it to a low volume and its fine, and if you need it to be louder then you can turn it up. (Fine the way it is)
Dont care about the hard keys lighting up, took me maybe a day, if that to get used to where the buttons are, dont need them to light up (Fine the way it is)
CoPilot is rubbish, but thats nothing to do with the phone, use iGO its miles better.
Calender snooze option, I hadnt noticed, will have a look...
As to if you phone is faulty, I would say operator error

basically this ^^^^
Hd2 = best phone / pda ever made
I am a heavy phone / PDA user ( around 7000 min per mounth phone and i have un unlimited data contract). My only problem is that HD2 was not here 10 years ago .
Sure is not perfect and bugs are there too but if u want a bug free phone buy a classic phone not a small computer. The OS and the HTC senses are very complex programs and there is no way hell to be ever bug free.
So all HTC phones are rubbish out of the box, I need to 'tweak' them in order to get them to work? I don't mind tweaking things but basic phone functions such as speakerphone, call volume and texting *should* work out of the box. All of you who claim your phone volume is fine must be deaf! There are several guys on this forum who complain about the in-call volume, speakerphone volume and distortion coming through the speakers....so this isn't a one-off faulty handset that I own.
Take the hands off that phone and walk away. It's better for both sides.
Disappointed people, sell the God damn thing
Sell it to me cheap then! I'll be happy to pass it on to someone who appreciates it more (and has more patience)
Ah ah ah ah
Why were you so hurry to buy such expensive phone ???
Weren't you able to wait some times to see if some issues raised
Your post is ... what´s the word you like to use ... ah yes ! your post is rubbish.
Sell you phone, you are not the kind of youngster that needs such a phone
Last week I sold my iPhone 3G 16Gb and two days ago I bought my first HTC device - the HD2. Yes, it has some bugs, yes, I reseted it several times, but overall the experience is great. From the problems, mentioned in the first post, I have only the last one, but the camera in my iPhone was nowhere near the HD2 one. So, I am very happy, it is a great phone with a great community. Someone complaint that you need to tweak the device before use it, but that is a positive thing, take the iPhone, which in most cases lacks the ability for customizations. I am really glad that I changed my device and I hope, we'll see some great ROMS, games and apps for the HD2.
I arrived on the Pocket PC scene with thge Xperia X1, I would say that this was my worst phone out of the 3 I've owned.
My second was the near perfect Touch Diamond 2, great.
My present one is the HD2, which despite the issues, I would not regret buying it as I believe and hope the issues will get addressed and sorted. Yep, the best phone I've ever had.

Sure it has a lovely screen.

My HD2 Doesn't have any of your problems, including the pinkish color in the center.
You can try Garmin XT instead of Copilot. Other then that, i think most of the problems can be fixed software wise, we just gotta wait for new roms to come out .
I want my click back!

Hahaha, that's the proper comment for this thread.
Having been a long time reader and following the rise and birth of the HD2, I'm just about to order one till I saw the Alarm issue .
I have 4 basic needs:
Alarm
Bluetooth Voice recognition
Texting
and good call quality
I need it to wake me as an alarm is basic and should over ride silent mode and go for more than 2 beeps .
Bluetooth hands free, I need this to work as I need it while driving. How easy is it to get working with Nokia BT headset, and can it work like the n95 with auto voice recognition? Heard you can install MirosoftVoice thingy, but where from?
I have read a lot of problems about Texts. Presume this will be sorted shortly.
Good call quality, self explanatory, so don't like the sound of blastingly loud crackling volume.
I use a pc for emails as mailwasher filters out all the sp*nk mail so I don't intend to use it for emails.
Am I going to get the right phone? I love the look of the HD2, nearly bought the HD.
Liked the iphones that I played with but hated the handcuffed options and itunes. Shame that every gadget or accessory in shops is geared towards iphone.
Need some help.
Cheers,
Steve
Will that be a "No can't do the basics" then?
Alarm: Built in alarm is fairly basic, it does override silent mode and you can set 3 alarm times with days and the sound. Snooze mode is also included. If you need more, there are great applications like G-Alarm.
Bluetooth: I can pair it with my Bluetooth headset, it's simple and works just like it's supposed to. I don't know how to map a key of the headset to MS Voice Command but I'm pretty sure that this can be done.
Texting: Some people had problems, but disabling HTC Messaging is a simple fix that silves the problems. I've not had any problem with texting yet.
Call Quality: It's pretty good, IMHO. Not the best among all phones, but very good for a smartphone, better than most other smartphones.
1. Alarm works quite well for me, but I have a very light sleep, and almost every sound wakes me up. The only thing about HD2 that didn't wake me up was the battery notification (that it is under 10%)
3.. Texting - quite satisfied, only twice (I have the device for 3 full weeks now) I noticed the sms bug (sms not being sent from outbox), but soft reset solved those things. On my HD2 (with 1.43 WWE East Europe stock ROM) it appeared only when weather didn't want to update, so I kinda knew when it was appearing.
4. Call quality is very good, much better than on my old Nokia 8600 Luna
