it happens *only* when you get device out of the pouch, which is included in the box. it's caused by little magnets hidden in the pouch, which are holding pouch's cover. try to switch wizard on, put into pouch and then get it out. you'll see landscape mode screen switch without incoming call as well. quite annoying issue btw...
The only solution I've found so far, is to map a key to switch from landscape to portrait, and switch back straight away when it happens.
I've been scouring the forums for a few days in case there was a cab file to disable the mode switching so I could do it manually.
No joy though.
It should switch back on its own a few seconds after you take it out of the pouch.
Try inserting your phone into the pouch (screen facing your body)
It does return after a few seconds, but often the call has gone by the time it does, and the softkeys/answer keys muck around while its switching. with the landscape/portrait key set, hopefully the switch will be faster. (thats what I keep telling myself)

this only happens sometimes....i usually carry my Wizard in my trousers' pockets, and when I take it out to use it, it is sometimes in landscape mode. As i understand it, to change it to landscape mode, you would normally need to push the keyboard all the way out and make it click at the end before it switches mode. So how can it change to landscape mode in my pocket? yes, i admit sometimes the keyboard has slightly slided out, but nowhere near fully out. Unless there are some key presses which turns it to landscape mode as well? Also, I always tap the power key to put it to standby mode, which I have set so that only the power key can turn it back on, and only to the password screen, so theoretically key presses are also out of question. but it's bugging me......
The trigger to landscape is just a magnet in the case and a switch. This is often noticed when sliding it out of the holster (the holster often has a magentic catch. I'd suggest you have something magnetic in your pocket but I'll leave it at that before I get misinterpreted.....

I use doublelauncher software. Using this program you can assign to hardware button this action: move the screen to landscape mode.
i've not assigned any buttons for toggling to landscape. But i tried the magnetic thing, and JoninLA is utterly right, it can be easily simulated. I have a piece of magnet in my keyring which i carry in my rather long overcoat where it may just reach over my pda in my trousers. and i also notice it even when i'm using the holster, which does have a magnet as well. thanks guys....i know what to look out for now. great stuff.
When my phone rings I'm invariably touching the screen and disconnecting the call as I remove it from my case. I think the easy solution here would be to inhibit the touch screen while the phone is ringing - I've searched here and elsewhere and not found any comments about this issue. Anybody have any thoughts?
I found a couple threads about auto-locking the phone at sleep mode, but then the hardware answer button wouldn't work either, right? TIA.
Why don't you use the supplied screen lock today screen plug-in. It does exactly that. Will keep the screen inactive but thr call accept and reject buttons will keep on working even when the screen is locked.
Hope this helps and regards
Try using PhoneAlarm
PhoneAlarm lets you blank the screen when you connect on a call but not while it is dialing. Pressing the power button while on a call gives you full access to all keys.
After i hang up on a call (when the phone is in sleep mode and the screen is locked) the screen unlocks. this is quite contrary to what is mentioned in the phone manual chapter 1 page 45. this becomes an issue since i use a bluetooth headset and the phone remains in its sleeve/case and after every call, a whole bunch of applications will launch since the case is in contact with the screen. have i overlooked some settings or are there other owners who have faced this issue?
ideas and suggestions welcomed
did you check it out if any of the hardware buttons being pressed against the case hence wakening up the phone.?
i had it to only closed al my apps in taskm and it stoped flickering
My HD2 is also behaving in the same way even in controlled test conditions - the phone unlocks when a call comes in (I'm presented with slide to accept or reject call) The phone unlocks during the call, but fails to lock again on disconnect (either by pressing "end call" or hang up via bluetooth).
Can anyone verify this? Is it interacting with something I installed?
I believe I found a (complicated) workaround.
What I want: leave HD2 inside pocket, answer calls with bluetooth headset, hang up and phone will go back to lock.
Problem: After I hang up using bluetooth or press the big red "End Call" button or the other party hangs up, the phone stays unlocked! It stays powered on and all kinds of buttons gets clicked.
Practically all lock sw uses their own lock screen (which I don't want to install). CSDevCtrl does not trigger by phone. TouchLockPro uses its own transparent lock screen but can respond to phone events. Using the !SUSPEND for TAPI\Ended under settings does not seem to work when the screen dims about 50 secs into the call.
Solution: Use TouchLockPro together with LockAndOff. Get TAPI\Ended to run LockAndOff will turn phone off, whether by bluetooth, big red "End Call" button, or the other party hangs up.
BTW: I think there is some confusion on whether the phone locks when you
1. press the big red "End Call" button, or
2. the hard "End call" button
in the forums.
I noticed that HD2 have a light sensor next to the top ear speaker.
During a call, if the phone is put near the ear and cover the light sensor , the screen become non-active which is good.
If anyone can come up with a lock sceen using this light sensor , then the problem with random launch of program when phone inside pocket will be solved.
This lock screen should only activated right after an end of call, beacuse , sometime you may want to use the phone in a dark place.

It's the proximity sensor that turns the screen on and off during a call, not the light sensor. How else would it work in the dark? (which it does)

My proximity sensor does not work, when I am getting a call my screen turn off and when I am taking the phone out from my face it turn on only when I am out side at the sun!! the screen stay off when I am inside room. I tested it with flsh light and it is working also.
I have a T-Mobile US version of the HD2. I am having the same problem when using the bluetooth system in my car. After answering or making a call the phone stay unlocked. And then starts making random calls while I am driving!!!!
There has got to be an easy fix for this!!!
Buy pocketshield, problem solved.
i have this unlock problem with 1.48 rom and i solve it by pressing start button and lock. after that everything works fine unless i change theme in settings. then just repeat first step.
Solved
Same trouble with me until I use the following software. I tried it and it's almost perfect. unzip it and just copy to your HD2, run CallerLoc.exe and click Yes, you'll find:when you hang up, or he/she hang up a call, or a call is established, the screen will turn off.
Why say 'almost perfect', the software is in chinese, but the filename is in english. and it's a call location software but with the function we need.
To stop or before you delete the software, run Callerloc.exe and click Yes again.
Hope this will help you. Sorry I don't find a English version of this software. I esure and I'm using this software perfectlly with my Leo.

Same for me
Greetings.
I understand this is quite an old thread I'm digging up but I need a little help as well and I didn't want to start a new topic just for that.
I've this silly problem, appeared right out of the blue:
You all know the standard manila behavior, when the phone is idle, the screen first dims and after some more time, depending on your preferences, the screen locks. It also locks if you press the power off button. This all was happening to me till this morning.
I added an event in the calendar (the only change I made today) and after that, my phone dims and then goes in sleep mode after the designated period of time, but DOESN'T lock!!! It doesn't even lock when I press the power off button. I can still lock it by pressing Start and then lock or by press and hold the power button and choose the lock phone option. So one would say that it's still operational, so why bother about it, but I kinda liked the standard function and I have to freaking idea why it changed!!!
I'd be most appreciative if you could offer some help with that.
Oh, I forgot to mention. Soft reset didn't solve the problem. Erasing the calendar event didn't either.
My phone runs the factory ROM (1.66.482.1 ELL), I haven't changed anything other than user settings (yeah, I'm a noob... )
Thanks in advance!
Nasos
Pocketshield could be the end of your problems. You can try it for 10 days and see how it goes...
But why do I need to buy third party software in order to revert my phone to it's original operation?
No, this is not the answer I am looking for. I was wondering if you know of any kind of settings that might have changed by accident and caused this undesired behavior.
Thanks.
The best to return to normal operation would be a hard reset. Or you can spend a while trying.
You can try
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Lockscreen\Enable=1
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Lockscreen\Active=1
Thank you very much. I opted for the hard reset option... I hope it stays ok this time!
My HD2 also had some strange unlocking and unwanted calling.
I noticed it appeared when using the android style lockscreen.
When I changed back to the original one, problem solved
i had this too. the andriod lockscreen seems to be a bit buggy last time i used it, i accidentially called 7 random numbers
Nice to meet all the bro & sisters here.
Sorry if this question been repeated, I searched but not find anything related to this.
I am TYTN II user switched to HD2 just 2 days ago.
I have noticed one button with end call button + switch off/standby.
Whenever I am on the call wanted to turn off the screen the phone went off after pressed the standby button, sometimes the screen automatically turn off but when the phone is shaking the screen turn back on in my pocket.
Tried locking the screen but no outcome.
Hope someone can help me out with solutions.
thanks & merry christmas to everyone.
Ken
Hd2 has a proximity sensor which will automatically turn off / dim the screen when you are in a call.
Thank you for your reply.
Yes, but during walk the screen will keep turn off and on that will consume the battery life.

Also to the point, if the screen goes off during a call, how do I get it back on again (i.e. pressing the normal screen-on key ends the call)

It only does this when you are in a call. At other times, when you lock the phone, the screen stays off till you press the end-call button again.

You put the phone to your ear, and the screen goes off instantly.
You move it away from your ear and the screen comes back on instantly.
If it's not working like that then there's an issue somewhere, as that's what it's supposed to do, and it works perfectly for me and many others.
Do you guys with the problem have screen protectors on? I do, but mine doesn't interfere with the proximity sensor. I know that some can though, as reported by other users in this forum.
Sorry bros
My meaning is if using hand free kit & the phone kept in pant pocket, while moving on the road the phone sensor makes the screen goes on & off repeatly
didn't any one notice this point? Until I take out and hold it then stop blinking.
Hope it is clear now.
The sensor is just for phone when it is near the ear & away from the ear or on the table upside down.
Please help me thank you
I use a hands free set a lot, and just put the phone in the sleeve while in a conversation.
The proximity sensor then keeps the screen turned off.
Hi ofuroinu, there are lots of solutions :
You can install S2U2.
In power settings it has an option "Blank Screen on Talk" which automatically shuts off the screen when the call begins.
Or you can also install AEButtonPlus and associate the long press of send button (or another one ... yet it is not working for all the buttons) with the Switch on / switch off Screen command (number 32 in the list) to do it manually at will with a long key press.
I suppose you can also have a look at mortscript to find a script that toggle the screen, then associate the script to a shortcut that you can put in the home tab shortcuts.
Cheers,
Nibbler.

Silly question, but if the phone is in your pocket, how on Earth do you know that the screen is turning on and off?
THANK YOU TO ALL THE GOOD FRIENDS WHO HAVE REPLIED ME.
Maybe it is silly question to Jim Coleman, I am sorry.
I CAN SEE THE SOFT SCREEN LIGHT THRU MY PANT, BECOX IS QUITE THIN MATERIAL, AND OF COURSE ON THIS EARTH BROTHER.
ONCE AGAIN THANK YOU TO EVERYONE & MERRY CHRISTMAS & FRUITFUL NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL.
Ok guys I am searching but i need my screen to lock when im on a call i even managed to get into comm manager today and put the phone into flight mode what the hell ?? lol
when u put the phone to your ear, the proximity sensor should automaticaly turn off the screen.
It does but sometimes if i change ear if im on a call for a long time obv the screen comes on its just annoying i have even cut a few people off, surely im not the only person who cant take a call properly lol

THIS!!!
Absolutely ridiculous.
actually... sometimes i dial a number and put it to my ear... and when it starts ringing the screen comes on... i hate this... anyone knows why?... the sensor is fully covered...
Same problem...I already opened a thread for this, but no solution (apparently)
It's really annoying!
It would be just great if we had a menu button to turn it off again.
Contacted HTC, waiting for reply.
They replied that this is a normal behavior and nothing else we can do, onoly find some app which does that.
Any ideas?

@ EgoMaximus
good find im trying it now seems to do the trick,
Try InCallLock as well
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=556801 disables hardware buttons, good when taking phone out of the pocket or so.
so i deleted that app, what happened to my slidey lock screen?
Pocketshield can do that.
See an in-call demo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMf8C5k7TGM#t=0m55s
Does the hardware windows key then 'lock' in the bottom left not do it?
i think wețre deviating from the main problem... out of the box HD2 SHOULD know to "close" the screen when in a call and covering the proximity sensor...
for me it does this as supposed but not always....
normal behaviour... make a call... put the phone to the ear... as long as the phone has the sensor covered the screen stays off
my random behaviour.... press call... put the phone to my ear (the sensor fully covered)... the screen turns off... when it starts ringing the screen goes on.... i take the phone away from the ear and put it back... the screen goes back off.... when the other end answers the screen goes back on... putting the phone away and back to the ear turns the screen off again.....
THIS DRIVES ME CRAZY!!!

+1000000 Since I have my HD2 I read all the forum to find a solution.
This is the only message I can read I find someone really boring with this problem. This is for me the problem Number 1 of the HD2.... the only one in fact .
I saw o lot of nice CAB for HD2, a lot of nice tweak etc... So why can't we find a CAB or why HTC make a patch for this boring bug..
Are we the only 2 HD2 owner to be really bore ?
this really p!sses me off too! during the lat 3 calls i accidentially hung up at least 3x per call will try the cab posted earlyer.
i just don't get it why is so hard to provide this feature wich is on every standard rom...
HTC Roms will not do that by default, neither the WM standard lock. You need a 3rd party screen locker
oh yes they do... with my stock rom when in call there is a courtain over all the buttons like mute, speaker etc... when that courtain is active nothing works except the start/end call and slide the courtain to gain acces to other buttons... so the uper bar is not activated if touched....
