I would like to have people's feedback on this please cause at the moment i am using the O2 Asia Rom and it is slow and crap.
I have a O2 sim card and am in the UK so which rom would be the best to use....
I think the i-mate plays faster than the o2, and the t-mobile is really poor i think...
im going to use the German Extended O2 Cab's to get the O2 look, but just wondering if people found a different rom better in anyway.
Marc
Use SPB Benchmark on a plain rom & test the different versions & see which one is best. Should be pretty easy, maybe time consuming.
My guess: as long as you ditch the ext-rom it doesn't make a big difference which rom is used. So I stick to TMO's 1.13WWE, which is still the most recent.
M
After trying the 1.12 and 1.13 both rom and radio, i've stick with the last TMO rom with 1.12 radio, it's the best and the most stable setup i've had

HTC Charmer, which in all fairness has as much in common with the Wizard as it does the Magician if not more, anyway...
Anyone know of any alternative ROM sources of tweaked ROM's off other devices, not happy with T-Mob rom, going from T-Mob to Qtek on my Wizard made it loads faster so in theory any Rom is likely to be quicker than the Molasses fast T-Mob one.
I'm just curious, why do you guys flash your ROM? doesn't it cause problems later on? I know some people say it is faster but does a fragment of speed merit the change?
No offence to ROM developers, I've flashed my ROM but the question is merely there for speculation and to get the Polaris forum a little more active.
In my case:
1) I hate localized software (though I'm neither English, nor German)
2) Don't like branded ROMs - they're usually loaded with lots of crap and are slower (thank god I don't have an Eten - they come with trialware !!! )
3) Usually a newer ROM is better and more stable, and operators like O2 release ROM updates only once/twice per year...
4) It is fun (Well, not fully, since you have to reinstall all software after reflashing )

Simple answer: Why not ? ;-)
In fact, flashing the ROM of his device mainly give the opportunity to have much better device than the original. A good example is the HTC Touch (ELF). Even if customers have report numerous of problem, HTC haven't yet issued a ROM update for the French ROM. This is a good example and answer to your question "why flashing a ROM".
Polaris is a brand new device. We can expect a reaction from HTC (if they react) in the next months. During this time, you've the choice to
1. Live with the bugs until HTC decide (if they) to fix it
2. Use a cocked ROM to make your device (much-much-much) better
Of course, Flashing a ROM is always at risk for the user. Example with mine. I've ordered a Polaris in French. Actually the official French ROM isn't available. If I've a problem with my device, the warranty is down because I've flashed my device with an unsupported ROM.
On top of this, flashing is (for me) a nasty game ;-) It is dangerous but I like it !
I have noticed a performance increase with Hermes but I don't know whether this can be true for Polaris? Is the difference major?
If it is, warranty or not, I'll flash...

Of course the Difference is always NOTICEABLE because its meant to make your device function a lot better in more ways than what comes with the original ROM's.

With the Bepe ROM the Polaris is 1.5 tome more faster (surely due to the Windows Mobile 6.1 layer).
And, for a "preview" as Bepe say, I find this really stable. Of course, things can always be better. For this, we have to be patient or...
...learn on how to cook ... ;-)
I subjectively feel a quite noticeable speed improvement with the WWE ROM over the previously default German O2 Orbit 2 ROM. I noticed (and htcclassaction is big on that) a high impact on TomTom. TomTom worked alot smoother on the O2 ROM.
But I dont mind that, so I'm happily waiting for a HTC or cooked German replacement ROM while using the WWE on my Orbit 2.
Hey folks,
I've tried searching and there's no forthcoming result on this (despite that I suspect it *must* have been covered somewhere) - perhaps it's my dyslexia?
Anyway:
I'm now ready to install a WM6 ROM on my currently WM5 hermes from Tmobile.
I'm looking for people's opinions as to whether it's worth my while and what the performance differences are? (obviously it's a lot of work getting things set up again so I want to be sure it's worthwhile).
Is WM6 running slower on hermes that WM5? or faster?
Has anyone a ROM they would reccomend? Else I'll go with the Tmobile standard.
So opinions please!
Thanks a lot guys. I appreciate it!
cmon!!! you cant be serious!!!!
ppl are looking to upgrade their devices to wm6.1 and you want us to compare wm5 to wm6? i mean seriously......look at every device thread, even the older devices, you can practically see wm6/6.1 for almost every single devices, even devices which are waaaay older than wm6. and you probaby wont find anyone getting excited over any wm5 releases anywhere.......doesnt that tell you something?/
if you searched hard enough, you could probably find someone who compared the performance of wm5 to wm6 but those will probably be with older builds of wm6, and those just dont compare with the current builds. your best bet i would say is to try it out urself, its not that hard.
I know it's not that hard to test it - I'm already running it on my blue-angel.
And it's running well.
But comparing hermes to blue angel is comparing apples to oranges.
It's a *huge* amount of work doing the upgrade. Not the actual upgrade. That's, as you say, rediculously easy. But installing 20/30 medical textbooks? dozens of other programs, fixing out my network setup on it....
these take hours, and in a casual not setting hours aside for it fashion a couple of weeks.
So I'm understandibly not wanting to take the risk and plung in until I'm sure it'll be worthwhile.
Anyone got any experience? Has WM6 upgraded the speed? or is the slight graphical revamp a strain on the processor?
Also should I go with tmobile's own ROMs for WM6 or a community alternative?
Opinions pretty pretty please to save me hours of work!
2 words.......user customization
there truly is a HUGE diffrence between wm5 and wm6/6.1. i would recomend going with a WM6.1 build from the get go considering all the programs you say you load on your hermes.
I am currently using the DVH Rom build 19400(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=387516 ). I find it to be the fastest, loaded but not bloated, and honestly is the best i've used in quit some time. He has apparently released a new rom (build 19701) but i have yet to try it out. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=388747)
best of luck
molesaied88, TRY 19701, ITS FREAKIN AWESOME!!!!!!!Quick and VERY stable... I love it.
Thanks folks.
Sorry I took ages to reply i had exams! Right so you guys are advocating using a custom home cooked WM6 Rom rather than an original one?
(I'm assuming these are faster? Are they fully featured though?)
Now I'll need to decide whether to go with Ultra or molesaid's suggestion. Anyone know which is currently running more spritely?
Again thanks again! I know the forum must be deluged with this kind of stuff
I have found WM6 to be much, much more stable than when I had WM5. Not as many lock ups of freezing as before. I used to have to soft reset my phone all the time because of lock ups, but with WM6 I rarely reset my phone anymore.
I would say that stability and the larger pool of programs for it made WM6 the choice for me.
Hello everyone. Time to start posting in a new forum! I recently purchased the 8525 after having an 8125 that started to have issues. It hasn't arrived yet and should be here later this week.
Is the 8525 much different than the 8125? From the specs it seems a little better but nothing huge (other than a different processor and 3G, which I don't have in my area). I was happy with the 8125 (it was my first PDA phone afterall) while it was working, but the 8525 wasn't much more on eBay so I decided to get it instead. Just wondering what kind of difference I should see.
Is the 8525 fairly bug free? The 8125 had some bugs but nothing too bad and most were fixed with flashing a new ROM. I hope to find a good ROM for the 8525 once it arrives.
Looking forward to the new (used) phone!
wicked - you will love your 8525 if you liked the 8125
if you flash a good 6.1 rom (i recommend either binky11s 3.8 or CRC's stable release)
then you will notice a nice speed increase.
with 6.1 roms unless you get a stable one (like the ones i reccomended) you will notice alot of bugs as 6.1 isnt officially on the hermes.
Also, DVH's WM6.1 builds are rock solid, very fast, & clean (so u can add what app's u want). U'll like the hermes progression...

Hi there
I'm a bit new to xda's, I've just inherited an o2 exec. After playing around with it for a while it's flaws start to shine through quite brightly. From what I have read on here I need to flash the rom as a starter, but before I turn this thing into a brick I just wanted to ask a few questions.
1. From the guide I read, the imate 30 September rom is the best one to use, but that guide was made some time ago. Is this still the case?
2. If so is there anything different that I can expect installing on the o2 exec or is the only difference between the devices the hardware.
3. Any tips on where I might be able to pick this up from would be well received.
4. I live in China, apparently there are now all three types of 3g phone networks available, does this device work better with one type of network and not with another?
Much Gratitude

Welcome to the forum
1. The best ROM is the one that fits your personal needs, try several till you find the right one! (Personally I recommend Tomal 8.5)
2. If oyu have your original ROM is wm5, on this great forum you can find fantastic ROM´s 6, 6.1 and even 6.5 beta, so yes there aremuch different!
3. First of all please READ the Wiki: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Universal
Then search for the ROM you want on Universal forum, if you don´t know which then READ the members opinions
4. Uni has 3G for europe and Asia, so I don´t think you´ll have a problem with this
Good luck,
thanks so much
i have had a good read of the wiki but i am still a bit unsure about a couple of things. once i have these cleared up i'm gonna jump in.
so any rom will work on any unit (ie xda, dupod, jarjar)? Is there no difference whatsoever between the different brands?
also how does the speed of windows mobile 6 compare with 5?
thanks again
ignore me.....bit the bullet an went for it, every thing is fine and wm6.1 is running about 6 and a half billion times faster than 5 was
