hello
has anyone considered a way to boost gps signal?
i am pretty disappointed about GPS on my treo, i tried to use it in high mountain without positive results, it also works bad/or doesn't work at all when the weather is bad
there are many external antennas but as far as i know it's useless for treo 850 because of lack of output :/
any ideas ??
i use tt7, igo8
one more thing, after 1-2hours of using gps tomtom claims that it can't find gps modul and i have to restart treo... is this issue of app or device ??
where are you using it? Did I get it right that you are using a version with the german rom in the US?
I used a US GSM Treo Pro for about the weeks for the specific purpose of testing against my Treo 800w and found the GSM Pro GPS to be excellent. I
You now it can go between aGPS and standalone but aGPS depends on proper settings for a carrier in the region you are in, right?
I used it in Italy, for now i use treo in Poland it works however i expected better quality, i found another thing after 1-2 hours of using gps - phone has 40 'C, this is pretty high isn't it?

The phone is going to get hot after two hours of using GPS (or watching video).
I find the GPS to be pretty good on the unlocked GSM Treo Pro here in the U.S. Starting QuickGPS and downloading updated satellite data, then opening Google Maps results in resonably fast GPS locks for me. Do you have A-GPS enabled or disabled?
i've got german version so i hard to say :/ but i quess i do not use A-GPS

I used the GPS on my Treo Pro outside today for the first time (using driving directions in Google Maps) and it worked flawlessly. It locked on in less than a minute and never dropped the signal while I drove to my destination.
I have A-GPS disabled via the Advanced Configuration utility. Do you know the specs on the German version? What GPS application are you using? Did you try getting a lock with an application like GPS Test then opening your GPS maps program?
i use tomtom 7.9 & IGo8. Both work quite good, but i found that after ~1hour they lose connection :/ therefore i claim that gps modul is poor in my treo and i

I wonder if there is a "GPS timeout" buried somewhere in the registry? I haven't had the GPS running for more than 30 minutes at a time - it has worked fine for me.
works perfectly , i installed new tomtom 7 915
Hi all,
I'm sorry if this question is answered elsewhere, I tried searching but couldn't find anything that helps me.
I can't find any aGPS settings on my XDA Ignito. My friend has a touch HD and has aGPS settings under Start > Settings > System. Is this usual for the Diamond or have O2 disabled it for the Ignito? Or is mine a one off that has missing settings? In google maps my location is roughly determined by telephone masts, is that aGPS doing its work prior to the actual GPS kicking in or is it just rough positioning?
Thanks in advance!
i think o2 have removed it from their version of the rom! dont seem to remeber having it when i had the ignito stock ROM either!
True even I am facing the same problem. Quickgps is there but don't know whether it is agps or gps. any suggestions???

XDA Ignito owners: DONT TOUCH AGPS WITH A BARGE POLE! Just my advice from personal experience:
I installed the Advanced Config to turn AGPS and then GPS didnt work at all. TomTom would just keep searching for satelites, might get a lock on for 30 seconds, but then it would lose the signal again. Turned off AGPS and TomTom working fine now on the Ignito.
Hello,
I have got a prolem with my gps - when I installed maps on my HTC it had showed "I'm searching for signal", this message does not changed? What should I do to activate my gps module?
Thanks
try outside few people have success with gps indoors
also stating what gps program you use would be helpful
I do not know if it is international application - Automapa - http://www.automapa.com.pl/ . It is very popular in Poland.
I tried outdoors and no results.
Hello:
I try use the GPS of Sprint Hero in Argentina (there are no operators that use CDMA)
and I can not find the satellite signals, what I can do?
Thanks in advance
Gps will not work without a network location first. You may be able to connect to a wifi and it work, maybe.

Try to use the GPS while connected to wi fi and have not had luck. There fix something?

Are you using a custom ROM, or just stock 2.1?
Probably nothing you can do. The gps hardware is not powerful enough to work without a network location.

Today i'm using CM6 but try with the original sprint rom

my thoughts are...
GPS works.. but without data it has no reference.
Maps must be downloaded via some internet connection. Maybe a wifi can help u.
or
you can download a stand alone GPS map app. CoPilot is a good one, but cost $30.
Yeah, but the gps can't even find a lock without a recent network signal to tell it where to start looking. It's not a full on gps antenna.

I have been traveling around the world recently with my EVO and using the GPS to do so. It's GPS chip is no better than the Hero's I believe.
Things to keep in mind, without aGPS help, it can take these things up to 30 minutes to find your correct location. Usually it takes 4 strong signals to pinpoint it. Download GPS Status from the market and it will show you all of the satellites it is picking up as well as the strengths and you will know when you have a lock. It will also allow you to keep the phone awake and the gps active until it gets a fix. This is probably your main problem. If the phone is not actively using the gps, it turns off the chip and never gets a chance to get a fix.
You need to run GPS status preferably when you are connected to a wifi signal and outside with a clear shot of the sky. It can take anywhere from 10 seconds to 30 minutes depending on if you are on a wifi connection, how far away you are from the last known lock stored in the chip (GPS Status will display this for you) and also how far from the equator you are, etc. If you are very far south in argentina it can be a LOT more difficult GPS to work... I noticed my GPS had waaay more trouble up in sweden than it did down in central europe.
Also, Download mapdroyd and get the maps for the area you are in. It works pretty well for a free locally stored map app. GPS Status also allows you to add pins/labels to gps coordinates and then do a radar type guidance back to them. Between these two tools and now knowing how to connect your phone, you should never get lost again, providing your battery does not die. Luckily I brought 4 extra batteries with me!

Is GPS enabled in the "toggles"?
To test you should first use a simpler program like "GPS Test" (free) in Play Store.
If the GPS lock is very, very slow you can try the next sequence:
- stop all GPS programs
- start your MOBILE data connection
- start GPS Test program.
Obviously you will get a GPS lock much faster outdoors and possibly never underground or in buildings with a lot of metal in the walls or on the roof.
Im outdoor and im not underground also the gps toggle is on.
Can it be better when i install a custom rom?

Have you tried the navigon app available with Samsung phones? Might not be the phone but the app itself especially if you have recently upgraded to KK...
Definately try a test gps app, it will tell you if you have signal. Also if you have mobile data off try with it on a couple of times as this uses the net to locate the satellites to lock onto the signal faster...
