PSP emulator for Pocket PC's - is it possible? - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

I don't know a great deal about the technicalities of Windows Mobile 5 or the PSP, but does anybody know if a PSP emulator would be feasible? If one exists already.
I'm guessing not but thought I would ask.. couldn't find any posts on it.
It would make my xda exec complete having PSP games on it too!!

Why the need of an emulator for PSP? Look at this fantastic freeware, SUPER (Simplified Universal Player Encoder & Renderer)

Looks good for converter audio/video media but don't see any mention of games...?
I've no problem with media, I just long to play grand theft auto on my xda....! ;-)

Extracts
PocketPC converter of any input video format. Convert both ways, to & from
PSP converter of any input video format. Renders in H.264/AVC or MPEG-4 format
convert RealMedia (.RM .RAM .RMVB .RA) files to any other format

daliancer: I don't think it could happen, at least right now. AFAIK there's no 100% emulator for playing commercial games on a PC, never mind a PDA. From memory, I think they still have to emulate the GBA properly, so we're still at least one generation behind. It has custom hardware and graphic accelerator etc. which would be very hard to emulate on such limited systems.

Tops Vijay! Was the answer I was expecting, just thought I'd pose the question as it popped into my head..
Bleedin shame though... GTA would have been fun!

Try a DOS emulator with XCPUScalar to bump up the processor? Got Keen running, and dont see why any old DOS games wouldnt work.

Pyrojester: I think he wanted the new GTA, not the original. I guess the original might work... but what would he do for hot coffee?

Games on the XDA Exec

Hi Guys,
Hope someone can help, i used to have the XDA2s but ive now upgraded to the EXEC and i get bored at work alot .......... so i tend to play games alot on the xda............ i seem to have probs getting anything to run right ?
I used to like a game called Mondopondo but that wont run says i need to copy a file in the windows direc ? but i dont even see a windows file on the xda exec when i use explore ?
Also ringtones ? will it play a Mp3 as a ringtone ? it just seems very quite in volume to actually hear it normall Mp3's via Windows Media Player, i tend to have a few videos aswell but when its played in WMP they seem really small and cant find a way to englarge like on the XDA2s
Can anyone help me out plz ? or suggest some good games which will run ok on this
Many Thx
I'm looking for some nice 3D type games, Tombraider is naff, but I did hear of Need for Speed coming to the PocketPC format?

Can't really help to much on the games. I know a lot of games need to be updated for the new WM5 OS and VGA screen.
You can have MP3 ringtones i just put mine on the root of my SD card. They are found in the sounds and notifications section then. I have not had a problem with the ring volume at all. I find it louder than XDAII and XDA IIs.
*Wonders whether he can play Sensible Soccer* 8)
Surely you mean Sensible World of Soccer? )
Hristo Stoitchkov super star!
Anyway .. err ..
Volume. Yes, for me this is a major bummer. I tried listening to some MP3 the other day for the first time and it was very quet and the sound quality was merely average. Bit tinny and not a lot of bass.
It also seemed to be very quiet even on max volume.
I figured no problem ..just get winamp or something to crank it up a few notches but it just spazzed out presumably reached its limitations very quickly and started crackling to hell.
Has anyone had better results?
On the subject of games ..
Is there a decent genesis emu? I have a load of genesis roms I'd like to play ..
Champ Manager 2005 would be great for those long train journeys!!
ROFL
Its like Gentoo ..
You spend more time waiting for your computer to become rsponsive again than actually using it when it is.
This has for me at least become a hobby in itself.
I am cheaply amused ..
Gubbs: so, can SWoS be played on the Exec, or an XdaIIs?
If you get the an amiga emulator you should be able to get swos working!! as well as championship manager 93, old but fun all the same on train journeys.
Have you seen the WM5 compatible version of Wolfenstein 3D? Downloaded it over the weekend and it runs beautifully! You can get it here...

Absolutely great!

re: volume on mp3's, I use gsplayer and have no problem with volume or sound quality.
Also, you may want to give a try to, say, GPRS-capable multiplayer games. There're a lot of them; see for example http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/menneisyys/102005MPPPCGames.asp on them.
any other games, folks? In another year or two I'll be tired of bubble breaker.
Try these:

Recommending the old but gold Hexacto Tennis.
i've got FIFA Soccer 2002 from easports running on my Exec .... works fine ....
thanks cktlcmd.
I had gotten snails and flux challenge a couple of weeks ago. I've had some fun with snails, but I don't seem to be coordinated enough to get very far with flux challenge. I may try that Spot game, might be more my speed, i.e. sloooow.
my fraviot game on my M5000 is:
IonFx Geo Rally 2005
Its quite a huge game (i.e track size), like most things on these phones it runs alittle slow but then that helps you get round the corners lol, its 3D and has a cool demo that you can play and show your friends how good your phone is
Here is a list of games that I have working on my exec:
Anthelion 2 (VGA)
Bejeweled 2 (VGA) - only worked one though
Flux challenge
Football director
GameBox Solitaire (VGA)
Guardians
Monopoly
My Little Tank (VGA)
Naval Conflicts (VGA)
Pocket Mini Golf 2
Scrabble
Texas Hold'em
Virtual Pool Mobile
Worms World Party
I have to vote for Arvale 2 (and the original Arvale) from PDAMill, as well as their Joker's Quest.
Also Age of Empires plays remarkably well on a Pocket PC.
On the free size, Reflexion and Puzzle of Pipes are fun, and the kids I work with love HangHim.

PPC Games?

Heh, I find myself bored with my PPC in my pocket, so what are some good games for WM5?
the games i've got installed right now are pocket soduku and another one called warfare inc.
Warfare inc is like command and conquer if you ever played that, its cool, but i tend not to play it much until i get a screen protector because theres a lot of click and drag as well as tapping done.
Is it just me or is the selection for games on the PPC rather sparse? I had so much to choose from when I had my Sony Ericsson K790.
I tried loading some of those games on the PPC with the Midlet manager, they installed but the games wouldn't get any response from my Wizard's buttons, and then the games just freeze.
Unless I make time to encode some movies, I'm gonna be so bored with this phone...
There are many good games for ppc look here
http://www.clickgamer.com/pocketpc_main.htm?PHPSESSID=85e386b249f2c41f3c1a0c219afa37c5
Spb AirIslands & !PyroManiA! -
both v good graphics and pyromania to be released soon
Cocoto Kart Racer - fun
A no of free games on above site too if you search.
And of course you can have doom which plays well - 2 free versions if you google it.
Loads of free suduko games/ scrabble/chess depends what you want.
Enjoy its a good platform
If you like warcraft, there is a open source version. Search for "Wargus/Strategus".
no need to encode video to play on your PDA. orb (orb.com) will let you use your desktop as your own personal broadcast center. If you have a TV tuner card on your PC, you can even stream live TV to your PDA.
The possibilities with this PDA is endless!
There's another rather large thread on this. Please join in and share the fun.

What are some good programs and hacks for my 8525??

Thanks for you help in advance..
good and usefull programs very much depend on if one if a doctor looking for a program to look up illness or a musician wanting to mess with sound or a gamer
with the info you given so far
http://www.pocketpcdn.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7934
Well,
this question is hard to answer because of it all depends on your needs and interests. As example me as programmer I try to get lots of development software running on my Hermes, so, that I can go on working without having my desktop or laptop with me. Most of editors I need I program myself with VS2005.
If you want to get an overview of lots of software go to www.handango.com and select as device HTC TYTN (not CINGULAR 8525 - there are more software application listed uner TYTN than under 8525).
In games HANDMARK, ASTRAWARE and HEXACTO are really good.
However,
sorry for being so generalistic but without knowing your interests it is quite difficult!
Google maps is nice and it's free.
Also, I use a profile manager called Pocket Zen Phone (not free but very cheap) so I can switch between house, car, silent etc by just prodding an ICON on the today screen.
There's a nice free golf game downloadable from M$ too.

Well then...
1. For music and movies, get yourself ORB, you can stream all of the media on your home computer to your cell (or another computer for that matter)
2. For games try morphgear, it emulates NES, SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, GBA games on your ppc, you can program the keyboard as a controller...

old pc games on pda

i was wondering, is there a way, through an emulator probably, to play old RPG PC games on the hermes? such as Baldur's Gate?
also, is there a way to play symbian games on a pda?
is there any similar rpg game for pda?point and click style...
thank you
hey there
Yes there is possibility to play old MS DOS games on win mobile. There are several emulators for example - pocket DOS(commercial), DosBox(free), Bochs(free)... Also there some games which have been ported to win mobile like doom, some sierra adventures, flashback, another world... just search the net, if you want we can talk about it more.
I am also interested in meeting people who would like to port freeCNC (opensource command and conquer writen in C++) for pocket PC.
yes, but those games are dos games and the others you mentioned like sierra games, you can play them only through scumv. what about baldurs gate?is there a posibility to play it in a pda?
It is possible to run Baldur's Gate on Pocket....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3356945#post3356945
pocket dosBox works with old dos games not windows games like bg though
but it works with the old D&D games before bg and other windows d&d rpgs
I use it to play
speljammer pirates of realmspace

[Q] doxbox and windows games

I'm in the process of trying to get Win95 to work via qemu on the xoom so I can play Chaos Overlords (possibly the best TBS game ever!) I'll probably also try to get Fallout to work.
I'm curious to see how well the controls will work and whether the games are functionally playable.
Has anyone else tried playing old dos or windows games? If so, which ones and what's the best method?
er.. I meant dosbox. stupid fingers.
