_^.^_

M

Use DVDShrink to backup the DVD to HDD (takes 20 mins)
Use AutoGordianKnot to shrink the DVD file to something that will fit onto an SD card (in Xvid format: .avi) (about 4 hours per DVD but can do multiple jobs overnight)
Use TCPMP to play full screen on your device wherever you want.
Find the software online using Google (it's all free) and read the tutorials.

All the info you need is there.
Another source for info is http://www.ppcw.net/forum/viewtopic.php?id=628 (I figured it would be quicker to post the link instead of rewriting the answer I gave in that Forum) Hope this combined with www.pocketmovies.com helps

SORRY I meant .net not .com
DivX is the best.
what about windows media encoder???
From the little I've tried,
it seems that Microsoft Encoder, which is free, provide
a pretty damn good encoding to a PPC WM9 player format.
You can use AVI and DIVX rips to encode.
make sure you use 320x240 and resize/crop to this, 15fps
this will play in ANY WM2003 device ...
Again, as far as I can tell, for size and compatability, MS is
the best (and I hate MS!)
Thanks to everyone for your help and thorts.
I tried the first gide and it worked must i must have sliped up somewhere as i made the film Top Gun from a DVD but usinf the setting shown in the guide it nded up being 315MB, i did then use windows media encoder 9 to convert this to a .WMV (i think) that was small enough to fit on a 256 card and played in media player, rather than pocket TV,
dose anyone know if there i a click and go software to do this, As in put the dvd in the PC and push a majic button and the next day you have a film made that will fit on a 256 card
Thanks again for your thorts and info
John
Well I don't know of one but if you find it PLEASE let us know
matrix in WMP - 100Mb
I just downloaded and played matrix (the first, 2:10 time).
My setting:
source: divx mpeg file
downsize to 320x168 (clipped 15% of the sides)
15fps
16khz mono sound
85k video
total 100kb/sec estimate
final video is 100Mb and plays pretty good.
e.g. the Jump scene is very watchable.
My suggestion to anyone with a DVD to convert:
dont convert
download the movie in divx etc format from emule
then use MS encoder as above
Hi i would agree with that the converting from a dvd to ppc izs greif, but from a divx or mpeg its nice and easy, So in that case dose anyone know of a easy to use software to convert from DVD to Divx, (that would be handy for the xbox) then i could further encode the divx using media encoder 9 to run on the XDA
Thanks
John

DVD to Wizard

Is there a freeware or cheap app that will convert and compress a dvd to a file I can play on my wizard?
pocketdivxencoder - I've gotten some movies under 200 mbs with it. Output is compatible with tcpmp
as far as I can see, that app will only convert video files - it wont do it directly from dvd.
Try AVS Video Converter (www.avsmedia.com) - it's a great piece of code - not free, but not expensive either £19 I think
I've been using Fair Use Wizard and have had great success.
http://www.fairusewizard.com/lang_en/fairuse_wizard_dvd_divx_xvid_backup_tool_light_edition.html
I'm not the most computer saavy guy on the planet, but it seems easy to use, good compression, pretty fast (depending on your machine), etc. I was ripping movies to .avi, but then I found out that WMP won't play them, so I was then spending more time using Windows Encoder to convert them to mpg.
Someone on the forum suggested TCPMP http://tcpmp.corecodec.org/about
It rocks!
I use:
Smartripper - to rip DVDs to the PC's HDD.
PocketDivxEncoder - to then encode the ripped vob files to a Wizard compatible format & size
TCPMP - to play then videos on the Wizard
All work well, & all are free.

Convert DVD to PPC

Hi everyone,
I am looking for a program (freeware or not, as long as it works) that will allow me to easily convert a movie on a DVD to a Divx file that can be palyed on my ppc. I already have several programs, but not all of them do all that I want:
- be able to choose which titles to convert (main title for movies or single episodes for tv series)
- be able to choose the language
- be able to choose the subtitles
- optimised output for ppc
- fast
The program I am using now (xilisoft dvd to pocket pc) let me choose titles and subtitles, but is very slow (I have an Athlon 2500+ 1GB RAN HD 7200rpm 15X ripping speed, and for 1h of movie it takes at least 2h) and the resulting file is quite big and plays sluggiesh. So I have to use pocket divx encoder to further shrink the file. At the end way too long.
Could someone pls help?
Thanks

I use xilisoft professional - chose Divx, change my settings accordingly and end up with 2 hour movies averaging about 330 MB if I use the following.
320x240
400Kbps video
64 Kbps Audio.
Using tcpmp they play great and look pretty good as well. I think I could even drop the Audio down to 48 and bump Video to 450 and still get good sizes and playback.
Not sure what you are doing but I suspect you are not setting up for pocketpc size etc.
As to your other issues. My version lets me chose which chapters I want or which VOB so I sim-ply chose the main one. It also lets me pick language and angle and subtitle. Perhaps you need a newer version. Convert times are about 1 hour for a 2 hour movie - no so bad in my opinion given whats taking place in the background. Also make sure you have your divx codec upgraded etc

Video Converting

I have recently got an HTC TyTN II and i have been wanting to watch movies with it. Is there a way to convert movies into a format so the WMP on it will play them or the Video Player because the .avi files wont play on either. If there is a special format to use are there any programs to convert them to that format?
Thanks in advance
James
First off, the HTC Tytn II is the Kaiser, not the Titan
You should use TCPMP to play all your videos because it plays a wide variety of formats. I personally have a few preconverted stuff that play excellently on my phone (in mp4 format).
Honestly, I tried to do what you wanted, and gave up with trying to watch movies via WMP.
Instead, I use the free DIVX player whcih playes .avi.
I then, after trying almost every ripping software out there, ended up with SPB DVD Magic which admittedly is something you have to pay $24.95 for, but it works better than any other program free or share that I tried. It rips copy-protected DVDs (only those I personally own!) at a 25 fps rate with a variety of settings for aspect ratio, etc. and does it in the shortest amount of time and with the best quality to file size ratio I have seen.
The playback on my DIVX player is very nice, even with the Mogul's substandard video playback and internal memory.
With my 16GB memory card I have over 8 full length movies on my ppc (along with every CD Rom I own) and have room for about 5-6 more movies.
I highly recommend the SPB DVD Magic and DIVX player route.
Devin
I use Windows Movie maker or one of the other such things to convert the AVI to a WMP. I also resize it to the PDA screen, 320 X 240. Then I can get a lot of movies on my card and they play well.

Media Conversion

Hi there,
I am reasonably new to the HD, and WM in general. Just got my HD and absolutely loving it. I have a few long train journeys coming up though, and am looking to make the most of video/audio playback.
Basically I'm not 100% sure how to do it all. I have some DVDs that I would like to rip to my harddrive and then convert into a suitable file type to be played on my HD. I have DVD Decrypter which I will use to rip them to my harddrive, but I'm not entirely sure of the best way to proceed from there. They will just be in standard DVD format on my harddrive. If anyone can help and give me a quick tutorial and recommend a few programs to use, I would be most appreciative.
Thanks!
Firstly I rip the DVD movie to a Divx format.AVI file, then I use a program on my desktoppc called "PocketDivxEncoder" which converts the .AVI to a compressed format suitable to dump onto my memory card (about 80MB for a 45min TV show with reasonable quality - so on that basis a movie would be arounf 160 - 180MB), then finally use PocketDivx player (downloaded from www.divx.com) to watch fullscreen - works perfect for me, I have a 16gb card and have several completer series of tv shows stored quite happily with really good quality viewing!
Thanks for that. How do you rip the DVD movie into DivX? Sorry, new to all this!
there are several freeware apps that you can use to rip a DVD, I use one called "Shark Ripper", it has numerous options incl. output format - where I select DIVX video compression and MPe audio compression. Take a search on download.com and I'm sure you'll find a suitable freeware DVD ripper!
