-usb to ethernet
and some few rj45 to db9 converters.
i'm trying to "hyperterminal" creating a connection with com1 and hayes compatible and checked "use terminal before connexion"
i can see the terminal before connection but i have no prompt.
installed also pocket putty and ce file commander just to check but it does not work.
could you help me in troubleshooting and tell me what i'm missing?
( i was able to create this connection with my old jornada 720 )
many thanks,
Raphael

Best solution can be a serial bluetooth adapter connection. I don't think that you can connect to a slave device the USB serial dongle ....
ciao
thanks
ok, looked into some serial/bt adaptators , seems pretty expensive:
>100€ but have a good feedback onto. i'll try to find one on auction first.
thanks for the answer.
any other idea?
[/img]
ok
finally bought the bt/serial interface.
but having pbs connecting it to my nortel routers.
i'm using mtoken for software
bt/serial configured to 9600/8/n/1 no hardware flow control
back to my v1640 pairing device with serial service, outgoing port 8
mtoken asking to a direct connection to com8, says sonnected but nothing on the screen.
do one of you already uses same config, managed to?
any peace of advice will be really helpfull.
i'll get the bt/db9 back if i can't managed within 5 days.
to resume... H E L P
I am not sure but I think that the best way to do serial communication is through IRDA...
this product might be userful
http://www.expansys.com.au/product.asp?code=IR220L
communication from ppc to dongle seems ok, green led is on, so connection is ok, but when i press keys, i only have the key pressed, not the login/password prompt, its to have connectivity to nortel routers
please close this topic, yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
you know what, i'm happy...
solution?
rj45/db9 then rollovercable then rj45/db9 again
youpi!!!

Hi u all,
I was wondering if someone has tried this, and by this i meen remote connecting to his desktop computer using the wizards terminal service client (or any other). Maybe a sticky guide whould be a very usefull idea. What say u?
Yes, it can be done, and it is fairly straightforward while your phone is connected to the same internal network as your PC. You simply have to enable remote connections on the machine, and enter the IP address into the program on the phone.
To connect to your PC from the public internet is also possible, but requires nore work. Basically, you would need the public IP address of your router, and enable DMZ on your router for that PC.
I cannot be more specific, because it depends on the make and model of your router.
Hope this helps.
-Robert
Thanx mate.... worked like a charm from the local network. From internet though i guess it's another story because my pc is behind 2 routers, so i can't figure out which ones ip should i enter in the terminal service client, the modem/routers ip or the wireless routers ip its a bit messy
Ok this is an example of how to set this up. Networking is my specialty so I am well versed.
IP addresses used in this diagram are examples only. They do not apply to you, they could, but chances are they don't.

Then you would open Terminal Services Client on the PPC connect to the internet (from outside of your network eg:EDGE) and connect to 1.1.1.1 OR Whatever your external (internet) IP ADDRESS is.
The port forwarding is more secure then using DMZ. The only port required for Remote Desktop (Terminal Services) is 3389.
This setup is much more simple for 1 Router. But you can do it with 2, or more for that matter.
Hope this helped, Later; Lew
2 thumbs up for lew...
You are right man those arent my ip lucky guess eh?
Loved the smilie
Very helpfull diagram, i actually got the whole idea of port forwarding now
Will try it first thing monday morning from work
Thanx again m8.
What can I say... sometimes Tablets are priceless, other times they are just really expensive coloring books.
Merry late christmas every1,
i been messin around with the Pebbles software available at:
http://www.pebbles.hcii.cmu.edu/software/userguide.php#pcnetworkconnections
and well, it allows u to virtually control ur desktop from your PPC (i have an 8525).
it allows u to connect serially, via usb, infrared and to a network host thru the options menu here:

its a nice program and works flawlessly thru usb and thru the network host when ur inside ur network i.e. 192.168.1.* and so on.
but ofcourse i have to push the limits and want to connect to my external IP so i can connect via 3g from anywhere, how cool is that..
and the port isnt shown anywhere so i connected via Wifi and ran netstat to notice:
Proto Local Address Foreign Address State
------- -------------------- ------------------ ---------------
TCP myComputer:4343 192.168.1.*:1060 ESTABLISHED
i just forwarded both ports in my routers config as so:
i then pluggd my external IP into the network host text box on my 8525, clicked ok and was prompted by the pebbles server software running on my laptop whether or not to allow a connection from my phones 166.135.*.* ip, i ofcourse accepted and got an error from my phone, "Error: Network not available"
i tried like 10 times without making any changes and it connected once and ran perfectly, like i was connected over usb or wifi. i finished testing it out so i closed the connection and since, i havent been able to get it working.
i opened PebblesPC from my taskbar to see:
and noticed like 20 different 166.135.*.* IP connection attempts all from my phone.
wut ive concluded is that while connected to the internet on our phones over 3g, the IP changes so frequently to my device and doesnt hold onto a particular IP long enough for the pebbles software to fully connect and hold a connection like it has when assigned via dhcp to my internal network, but thats just my guess =X
any help is appreciated, suggestions are welcome and if theres any other software that can do the same then thats cool too, but id like to get this particular one working
o and its freeware so thats nice too
Try Logmein. Works flawlessly for me and allows me to access my work PC from home. Even to start it up and shut it down!!
Allows you to start up and shut down applications on the remote PC including printing etc etc.
You need to register but it's free:

kinda wanted to figure out the pebbles thing, but since u reccommended logmein, ive been messin with it and its really nice
wish u could add more special keys to send but its definately really good.
appreciate it =)
Also look for my forthcoming roundup of all remote control-related.
will do. definitely lookin forward to it. will u post it here in these forums?

hey mate, you have another option as well, you can also create a dial-up connection, in the 2nd window(2nd thumbnail by you) usin' the default phone as *99#, Username and Password to be left blank.
Cheers..
How to get PPC online internet when use with bluesoliel v5.0.5?
It's was very easy in v3.2.2.8, just check the option "ACCESS LAN NETWORK", then PPC can use the share connection from PC. unforturnely, v3.2.2.8 seemed not stable and makes my PC reboot frequently...
When upgrade to v5.0.5, that option was not found. And could not get on share internet connection anymore... Anyone can help on this?
Thanks.
Hello,
did someone try it on the htc diamond? i think it can not support the wifi adapter.
try the attachment. thanks!
well i ve tried the version 2.5 and it did not work in Promiscuous Mode.
btw i would like to learn a way to collect IVs in Diamond.
This app would be nice to have on my diamond..

A copy of WiFiFoFum is only £10 GBP and you can use Google Checkout or Paypal.
I beta tested WiFiFoFum all through the testing phase and I will say for functionality, PeekPocket does everything and I tested it on my Fuze after I saw the post and must say that it works great.
Thanks for the heads up bobokonijn...

Excuse my ignorance but whats the point of Peek Pocket... doesnt it do the same thing that the windows software do? just scans for wifi networks? or is there more to it?
Airscanner Sniffer is not the same as PeekPocket. Peekpocket only shows available networks. Airscanner is a packer sniffer.
Anybody have been able to work these in Promiscuous Mode? i could not. neither i did find a way to collect IVs. anyone has any experience about this stuff on ppc?
@Baz43:
PeekPocket shows all available Wifi networks with their respective signal strengths and what type of encryption they use.
HSniffer I have tried on my Diamond and it is capable of entering promiscous mode and capturing packets.

Hi!
I am trying find info on how to connect a standard USB-to-serial adapter to a Athena (7500 and 7510). I was thinking of using the VGA-out, connecting the adapter to the USB-port on the adapter that is connected to the VGA-out. Right now, I have a FT232 R USB UART connected to that port and my Athena asks me to enter the devicename, but of course it cant find the devicedriver for this adapter.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to successfully get a serialport from any of the available outgoing ports on the Athena? USB-port or VGA, doesnt matter at the moment.
Also, I tried installing Zenos driver package (Zeno USB Host Drivers v6.0a), but no luck there.
Any advices, tips or ideas are welcome

Found and installed drivers (http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm), it seems to be working. Will test this further.

If anyone knows any software for sniffing on COM-ports, please let me know.
Solved!
Ok, its now working. The device opens up on COM10.
Have taken shots of the connections made (hardware) and a screenshot from the application used on the Athena. This has been tested on both 7500 and 7510 and its working perfectly. The application used is from the makers of the chip in the adapter, FTDI, and on my computer I used hyperterminal.

Interesting. Are you just using the serial connection for file transfers, or some other reason?
I downloaded some Youtube videos/songs for my son and he plugged his PSP into the USB connector and I couldn't believe it when my x7500 showed a new Hard Drive on TotalCommander.
This 4-in-1 adapter cable is awesome, as I can use my Athena as a regular computer and watch qood quality YouTube and other movies through my 26" HD TV or connect music through my surround system. If you're considering this cable, it will not disappoint you!

We sell these devices with our software pre-installed, our customers are fire- and rescueservices, ambulance and police and the idea is to connect other "radiounits" to the HTC for communication with specific coordination-centrals (f. ex. in sweden thats SOS Alarm). Sorry but I cant really translate it any better than that
We have a few other things in mind as well, too early to write about them here though, and most likely its nothing that will be of any interest for the general public.
Fully understand what you are trying to say, sounds like a cool extension of functionality for the Advantage. Keep us posted as your "other things" come to light.
Will do. This fantastic community has provided me with so much info and I will contribute as much as I can.
My next project is a registrysniffer, realtime. Have just begun but it looks promising.
Good morning, I was not able to install the cable can you help me?
thanks
Sure I can help, would need a but more info though. You cant connect the multi-purposecable to your device? You cant connect the usb-2-rs232cable? Your driver wont load?
