I keep losing my storage card. It seems to happen when the phone goes to sleep.
When I wake my phone up - quite often it's lost the Storage card and the only way to "see" the storage card is to reboot the phone. Is there a known fix for this?
for me just removing SD card and putting it back in the slot works to revive it. You may also need to refresh file explorer by going to other folder and back.

Similar is happening to me - if I turn on the phone, some apps are closing down if they were loaded from SD, and WMP is losing what it knows about my current tracks from SD, I don't need a reboot though, just a reload.

I understand this to be normal behaviour for either wm5 or the universal, in that the storage card dismounts when the power is off. It also means if any apps are loaded on a storage card and are open when the power turns off, then they will be forced closed and maybe changes will be lost.
Matt
This is highly undesirable behavior, and I cant think this is by design. Losing my playlist everytime I suspend is bullocks, as is having to install everything to main storage because I dont want my software closing when I suspend.
There is a registry edit floating around somewhere which is supposed to delay the dismount of the storage card, but this has not solved the problem for me. MS or some-one needs to fix this ASAP.
Anyone else have a solution?

That doesn't work for me. It has to be a reboot - although I must admit I haven't tried taking the card out and re-inserting it yet - I'll try that next.

There is another thread here with some reg settings in it but the author says it doesn't work.
This is a PITA.
I had the same problem using a 1Gb card, sorry, I cant remember which one. I swapped to a Kingston ultimate 2Gb card and it now works perfectly. All my extra applications like Tomtom, pocketmusic and all the music files are loaded onto it and work perfectly.
Well I haven't changed my SD card and I have the same problem. It used to work fine, I could use mp3's from my SD for incomming calls. Then my MDA went dead and I got it replaced. I installed the newest qtek rom and now I have the same problem.
It's very annoying because when you are called the 'default' ringtone plays again because it 'cant find' the mp3 file you selected from the SD.

Could it maybe be rom related?
I have the qtek (aku2) rom and I have the problem. Can't recall if I had the problem with my original Tmobile NL one

Think we need to clarify the issue as two problems were mentioned.
1. Is that the storage card is unmounted during power off - for this i dont think anything can be resolved.
2. The issue of the card not re-mounting when power on or crashing apps etc.

Option 2 - when you turn the power back on - the card is not there. A typical example is when playing something in Media Player and then the phone rings and you take the call - if you talk too long the phone goes to sleep - so when you hang up you have to turn the phone back on. media Player starts to play and when the buffer is emtpy it can no longer find the track because the storage card no longer exists.
Option 2
Mine does not allways not re-enable, sometimes it just works. Other times, it is in standby and I get a call, it tries to play the mp3 from my sd, but offcourse that's not there (because it just woke up) and then it plays the default windows ringtone. I have to manually change it again
PITA
I'm also having problems with my SD card disappearing but I think my problems are due to the card itself. I recently got an Adata 4GB to replace a SanDisk 2GB and a SanDisk 512MB.
I never ever had any problems with the SanDisk cards. So I believe either its a compatability problem with the Adata card due to make or the size or I simply have a dud card.
Others in this forum have reported using Adata cards without any problems, so maybe it's just my bad luck.
I sold my old SanDisk cards on ebay, so can't compare them to see if it is an Exec problem but I think I'll be back on ebay to get another SanDisk card.

I never had both problems on my Exec nor SD Card. I am using a 2 GB San Disk Ultra Card (Black). It does not matter if I took the card OFF or just shut down my Universal, the contents always shows up. No delays either. TCPMP and GS Player remember what I was playing. I never tried the built-in WMPlayer.

In that case can you confirm:
What FAT file system you used when formatting your card (and chunk size) and whether you have done any registry tweaks.
Thanks

Ever since I put in a 2gig memory card my 8525 has gotten very slow to wake up. Without the card it comes out of sleep almost instantly. With the card installed it takes 2-3 seconds. Any ideas on what might be causing this issue?
I'm running the vp3G v2.0 WM6 ROM and the memory card is a SanDisk 2.0gb MicroSD.
Also I have to reboot the 8525 after inserting the card to get it to recognize it. Is this normal?
Clear Skies,
Dave
Seems like something you have installed needs to access it on the card first. Check what programs you have that is most likely to run in the background and it's probably installed on the card and not the device.
I am getting the exact same problem except all i did was move my pictures and videos to my sd card... I have no other programs etc on my phone. please help
Same problem (solved)
I had the same problem and found that the advice of ThaiM was correct.
The offending application in my case was Garmin Q that seem to need to access the micro SD before allowing the phone to wake up.
Now wake up is quick but the unistalled Garmin Q is complaining that it can't find the garmin.exe. probably something in the startup folder of registry, should be able to sort that out.
Thanks for the solution
I've been having an issue with my device. Once every week or so, something happens to my 16 GB SanDisk memory card. Exactly what happens I can't tell you, but it can be stuff from Media Player not beeing able to add files to the library (but plays them fine if you open them manually), to the phone freezing after entering PIN upon start-up. Sometimes it freezes randomly, and I have to remove the SD-card. Whenever this happen, using my card reader and running Vistas error-checking sorta helps it, or if I can isolate a file that causes a problem (not a program, any kind of file) and delete it, it usually works.
But, why does this happen? I never take the card out of the phone, except when trying to fix the errors. I sync over Bluetooth and USB, I've used different ROMs (I think, I've flashed quite a few recently so can't tell for sure), I've used diffrent line-up of programs, but it stills keep acting weird. Any clues? It's quite annoying. I didn't search the forums, since I honestly don't know what to search for. Any clues or search strings are most welcome! Thanks!
Forgot to mention, I'm currently running CRC's latest stable, but, as I said, I don't think that's the problem.
same thiong happened to me
My mem card started showing up files with some weird names, other files were unaccesible, programs stopped responding and the phone would freeze until I took out the mem card. What I id to fix the issue was, took out all the vital info (keep it minimal cuz there might be a corrupted file and we dont want to transfer that one to the phone again. format your memory card using a "low level" format application http://lmgtfy.com/?q=low+level+format+freeware+download+sd&l=1 then pop it back in again and the phome will format it, and transfer your old data back. This happened to me a while back and havnt had a single issue sience the low level thingie. Hopes this helps
I'm afraid this is a common enough problem and has been written about many times. Causes vary from software errors, switching off before all data is written or even physical contacts between phone and card (some evn say different brands of card work better).
If it happens that you see corrupt file names do not continue using the device or open programs or trying to delete data. Imediately perform a soft reset, this can recover (sometimes) the corrupt FAT file and save data.
The inability to save Media Player files to the library is an un-related issue and is a known software issue. You can overcome the issue by deleting the msmetadata file (search this forum for more info). Unfortunately it's something you may have to do fairly regularly.

I had my TMO HD2 for about 2 months now, and I upgraded the ROM right after I bought it to the latest official stock firmware. It has been working perfectly fine til yesterday. It froze while pressing the numbers to dial, but I could still go use the Sense UI and run other programs. Only the dialpad froze.
After some troubleshooting, I noticed the problem would disappear upon removing the SD card and a soft reset. I also noticed that if I delete the "Application Data/HTC" folder on the SD card and reinsert it the freezes does NOT occur. But after 1 day, those files regenerated and the freezing is occuring again. The files totalled over 45MB. I deleted them again, and the freezing as of now stopped.
Anyone have any idea why this is happening? Thanks.
the sd cards that came with the phone are crap.
Best bet is to copy over important info and format, scan and fix errors on the sd card, then put your stuff back on it.
I have bought a new memory card (class 6), and the freezing problem still occurs. Anyone have a solution? Thanks.
Those files are what Sense uses to index the music, etc on your SD card, and they reappear each time sense does a new reindex.
The problem you're seeing has sometimes ended up being related to bad album art or other metadata on one or more MP3's you have on the card, so you might want to first test by removing your music collection and seeing if that has any effect.
However, also note that having a music collection that is very large can also bog down the phone when sense tries to index it, that's a known issue on this phone...
I have rockplayer running on my htc desire. when it works it seems to be an excellent media player but i've been having one major issue, in that it regularly stops working!
media files (xvid avi) are stored on my 16gb sd card. rockplayer will play a file, or sometimes two or three, and then stop working. the next time i try to play a file the screen simply goes black and i have to force close the program. this behaviour continues until i reformat the sd card and copy the videos back on, at which point it will work again for a short while and then stop again.
this is very frustrating. no amount of rebooting, trying different files, force closing etc etc seems to work. once the problem occurs, the only way i have found to get it working again is to reformat the sd card.
i am relatively tech savvy and i'm happy to tweak things and try things but i am new to android so my question is: has anyone else encountered these problems with rockplayer? (i haven't found anything from searching.) and also, is there anything i can do to log the problem and see what is happening? i can't even work out if it is an os problem, an app problem, a phone problem or an sd card problem!
any advice would be much appreciated.
thanks in advance.
