Bluetooth GPS COM problem - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Hi,
i have the following problem during the initialization of my bluetooth GPS device(HOLUX GPSlim236):
the bluetooth manager recognizes the device, but when i want to select a COM port as an incoming/outcoming port, i get the following error:
THE COM PORT COULD NOT BE CREATED.PLEASE CHECK YOUR SETTINGS AND TRY AGAIN
I want to use the GPS under Destinator PN and it allows only COM 1,2,3,6,7,9. But under bluetooth manager each of these ports results the same error(only COM port 8 and 0 is good).Maybe something uses those ports, but what could I do?
THX

you need to change the reg setting to the following
hkey_local_machine\controlpanel\gps setting
value name
group
value date
2
base
decimal
get a reg editor and do this then do a soft reset the under connections you will have a gps icon where you can set the software to a com port you like

that's not a solution. What you need to do is assign the outgoing COM port 0,4, or 8, and then change it manually in the Destinator INI file. There is an update available for Destinator that makes it WM5 compatible

ActiveSync always changes Bluetooth Serial port to COM1

Hi,
I can connect trough bluetooth with ActiveSync on my PC.
I used this manual:
http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=2417
It really works great!
The problem is that my ActiveSync changes my COM-port to COM1 after a reboot of my PC.
When I change it back to COM9 (the port I'm using), it works... But the next time I shutdown or reboot my PC... Same problem!
Anyone knows how to solve this problem? :?
Sam
Hi all,
For those who have the same problem:
If you see an error when you reboot from ActiveSync and it says that the Infrared or COM port you have selected is unavailable and you can select and use that port after you boot. Modifying the registry is not supported by Microsoft so do this at your own risk! Open REGEDIT on the PC and confirm that there is a value for the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE Services\SerialPort which refers to the port you want to use. Then rename the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE Services\SerialPort to another name. Reboot and confirm that ActiveSync works correctly.
Click to collapse
And it really works! My problem is solved!
Greetings,
Sam

My bluetooth port is show Port 14.Can I change it to Port 4?

Hi all,
First I use Bluetooth MSI (10 Meters) I already install Deriver and set up it, it generate COM port for bluetooth 13 ports (COM 3-13) and I use it with PPC XDA II. Now I want to change it to 100 Meters. I bought new bluetooth (Billiontion). Then I install driver on same computer and see bluetooth port because I want to setup for sync with my PPC. It show port number 14.
But my activeSync it can not setup for this port. How to delete Port 14 and setup it to Port 4, or how to uninstall old driver (MSI).
Thank you.

Gps Com Port Problem Please help~

Hi Guys
This is my very first post here, i had found your information and suggestion very useful up until now.
I just bought the GPS software navman today and just finished installing it, all went well, however when i try connecting it to the correct port i couldnt.
The problem is the Dopod 838 i have bluetooth setting only showing com6 and com7, no other com port there. My navman software have everything other com port but NO com6 and com7!!
I have trying searchng the forum but cant find any step by step guide to how to change the port on my 838.
Pleaes help urgently
Thank you in advance
Have you paired the gps and wizard? And assigned an outgoing com port (COM6) to the GPS? Remember to NOT check the secure connection checkbox. Then turn the wizard off and on again (or wait at least 15 seconds and soft reset). Now your sofware should see the com port. If needed, create an incoport on COM7.
i have the same problem with destinator pn.
i try to pair with holux gpslim236 and it says the com port could not be created please check your settings and try again
HI Tomasz
Thank you so much for responding.
Yes i have paired the 838 with my reciever Holux Slim 236. All pairing is working the problem is with my navman software, i have to set the com port to match my 838 which only have com6 and com7. My navman software does not have com6 or com7. It only have com1,2,3,4,9.
therefore i cannot match the com port.
Please help guys.
THank you
I have actually read some more in this forum and i have no activated the GPS setting in the control panel. i have set the program to com4 to corresponse to the navman software.
After doing all that i still cannot get it to work still wont connect!
please help guysss

Just found out SmartSt V2 does not work with window mobile 2005
which gps software is compatible with my dopod 838? I'm located in Australia..
Please help
hi, i think u have to modify the *.ini* file (use a hex editor software) and in there u can change the com port there and that should work, also you need to follow the steps above as someone mentioned before regarding pairing it etc.....
Try "GPS Dash" to set your com ports.

Registered Virtual COM ports

Hi,
I am trying to create a virtual COM port using RegisterDevice(), to use the BT serial service on a WM device having MS stack (using btd.dll). I am able to successfully create a virtual COM port and write to it.
My question is this: Is there a way to find out if a particular virtual COM port (COMx) has already been registered using the RegisterDevice() call? I could not find it in the registry. The reason I want to know is that, I don't want to create a new virtual COM port, if one already exists.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.
