Anybody have the same problem? I use mp3 song as my ringtone, but after a while, maybe few days later, I heard my phone rang with the window default ringtone. I have to go set the ringtone again. Real strange.
I got the same problem.

I don't think this is the case since I have copied that mp3 song into the main memory. Can anybody help, please.

Where do ring tones go & what format must they be in?
Can they be MP3 and can they be put on storage cqrd or extended ROM?
I wonder how much effort and time would it take just for you to put the mp3 in and test out the thing yourself? What can possibly happen if it doesn't work?
Anyway, just to help you on the way, copy your ring tones, into \Windows\Rings or \Windows
Try putting MP3, WMA, and WAV. Check on your ring tone setting page and see if they appear or not.
Try http://www.electricpocket.com/ringtones/ for lots of ringtones.
Their program (Ringo) is good and works on the HTC Universal, I tested it.

Ringtones can be WMA, MID, WAV or MP3 and should be put in the \Windows\Ring folder on the Main Memory, as said previous.
SMS Alerts and Alarm Notifications have to be WAV and should be put in the \Windows folder on the Main Memory.
You can put Ringtones on your SD card or other locations, but it slows it down, and will take longer for your device to ring when it has to.
Regards.
if on your sd card, i believe they need to be on the root drive of the sd card, they cant be buried inside folders.
anything for notifications or alarms must be in the windows folder.
i also recommend the ringtone be small to improve launch speed, and to be placed in window\rings for easy identification and location.
your sd card will be slower to start ringing. there can also be a problem if the device must wake up from being asleep when the phone rings as it must also then locate and recognise the sd card, then launch the ring tone, which if large, all slows the device down.
try to stay less than 1mb, prefer less than 100kb if you can get it. mine is 500kb, runs for 30 seconds, which is the amount of time before it goes to voice mail.
i use an mp3 format, but wav also accepted. i think wav are bigger than mp3.
So, Universal does not support Ogg format ?
Hi there. A noooobie question for the weekend.
How can I put an mp3 as a ring tone in the magician? It seems only to work with "wav".
Thanks.
Yup "wav" is the default ringtone format file in Magician. U can use 3rd party software like Pocket Ringo to use mp3 as ringtone in Magician.
no need for a third party software. just copy the ringtone in windows/rings folder an then u can have the mp3 as ringtone.

Sorry TS my mistake, I want to correct my statement, yes lanuk79 is right, no need to use 3rd party software, just put mp3 files on Windows/Rings folder to use mp3 as ringtone.
@lanuk79 : At first I didn't believe what you'd said. But when I tried it on my magician then I realized that you're right. Thanks bro for the enlightment .
Note : In my O2 XDA II Mini manual book, it's said that .mid and .wav files are the default files for ringtone. It doesn't mention anything about .mp3 files that also can be used as ringtone.
If you want to change the ringtone folder, you have to use software like SKTools (the alternative is reghacking it yourself). The unlimited trial version lets you do this. When I had my Magician on Big Storage, I put my 'tones in the Storage folder, and I maxed out my program RAM.
hkcu\controlpanel\soundcategories\incall\directory
hkcu\controlpanel\soundcategories\ring\directory
change the values of these keys from \windows\ to \"directory you need"\
thats all,you need only a registry editor
the manual is rubbish!! and yes all u need is a small registry hack to load the rings from ur SD card. but remember that since the SD card takes a few seconds to boot up u mite not get the ringtone u specified. i changed my rings to storage card but all i kept getting was the default ring. the culprit was the storage card. the phone shuts down the power to the card to save battery n hence when the phone wakes up again it needs to boot up the card again. the boot up hampers with the ringtone causing the default ringtone.
true lanuk79, i dont think we can put ringtones in SDcard.. but maybe what soonari and ultimatechicken meant were "storage" directory, not storage card. storage directory is extra space u got if you do "bigstorage hack". and yes, the ringtones (mp3 or anyother formats) will works if u put them there...
randomly my ringtones will stop working. i dont have the volume on mute. i have to either go into the sounds menu and select a different ringtone and then go back to the one i was using or do a soft reset. its kind of annoying to do so. i just got my wing yesterday and ive had this happen to me twice now. has anyone experience this problem? also i was wondering if there is a way to stop the SMS/MMS ringtone from playing the whole ringtone even if i dismiss the message? i know i can just make the ringtone shorter but if there is a way to stop the ringtone, id much rather do that. thanks in advance.
I have this same problem with my t-mobile wing when I use an mp3 for sms tones, after a few messages it goes silent, I tried placing mp3 in windows folder but eventually it still goes silent, hopefully someone has a fix
yes exactly. only when I use a mp3 is when this problem occurs. hopefully there is a tweak or something to fix this
anyone have a solution?
i have the same problem and i've been having to do soft resets...pain in the butt
has anyone came up with an answer to this problem? i lived with it when i first got my wing, but now it has caused me to miss a few important text messages and what not from my girlfriend and other people.
I placed my .mp3 file in the windows folder and hit refresh then closed file explorer and assigned that .mp3 to my messages. It worked for a while but eventually it still goes silent so this is just a longer temporary fix. I'm still looking for a permanent fix

mine is saved to the phone. its the only way the ringtone will show up in the ringtones list for me to choose it.
It Think That It Might Be A Reg Tweak For This Ill Do Some Looking Around After I Get Outta Work
Same here...
I have the same problem as well. I've searched for registry fixes but I've found none. I've converted all of my sms rings from .mp3 to .wav and i haven't had a problem since. But .wav takes up a lot more space. Is this a problem with any other roms or just the t-mobile stock rom.
oh i didnt think about changing them to wav. ill try that.
what did you use to convert to .wav?

Cheetah Audio Converter for your pc. Move them to your desktop with ActiveSync, convert them, then copy them back.
http://www.freewr.com/freeware.php?download=cheetah-audio-converter&lid=1052
thanks i'll try this when I get off work
i use audacity to convert to wav and to chop the songs up. anyways using wav instead of mp3 has seem to solve the problem!
How do you add a new ringtone under new messages? When I receive a message I would like it to play a ringtone of my own. Any ideas?

Just so I don't mess up and end up with files all over the place would that be;
Explorer>Windows>Rings ?
I know it sounds simple but I can mess up even the easiest jobs on these things!
Matt
You can put them in 'Internal Storage\My Documents\'
Then you don't have to worry about the space
I cna't tell you how much that has been annoying me and yet the answer when it came was so simple... a bit like me!
Matt
PS And it works with my ringtone as well... thus freeing up the space on my device memory! You know, I sometimes wonder how I get through the day without hurting myself!!!
I place the files in 'Internal Storage\My Documents\'rings or music
so I don't waste space and it's all well set!!
I have two problems with this:
1. Storing ringtones on the Internal Storage makes them show up in the Music tab! No thanks I don't want to listen to ringtones when playing my music, is there a way to stop this other than keeping them on My Device memory?
2. The topic is actually regarding message tones and not just ringtones and I cannot see any of my files to select for a meesage tone. They are MP3 files which work fine for ringtones.
Does this phone not allow MP3s to be used for messages?

1. Don't use the TF3D music player!!
2. I have no problems with mp3 message sounds... and I have them in 'Internal Storage/my Documents'
I quite like the TF3D player actually and I'd rather use the built in one than go to run another app especially as I use a stereo BT headset and press play on that which automatically starts the TF3D player.
I've put loads of MP3 files in Internal Storage\My Documents\MyRingtones and while they all appear ok for actual ringtones I can't see a single one for use as a message tone, only the default files are there.
Is there a size, bpm, frequency limit or anything?
Anyone else managed to use MP3s for message tones?

In order to use mp3 ring tones for mssg tone u need to put them in the root directory of internal Storage it works fer me like a charm....
Cheers
cut and paste the file in windows then u can go back to ur sound settings
Thanks for the replies putting it in the root has worked though it's a little untidy. I've also found that My Device\Application Data\Sounds is a working location. I thought I'd already tried that but obviously not
While we're on the ringtone topic, has anyone found a way to store mp3 ringtones on Internal storage and NOT have them show in the TF3D Music Library?
I'm wondering whether removing the ID tags from them would work though unfortunately I don't have anything to do that with where I am at the moment, I'll try tonight.
Just to update to this, removing MP3 tags doesn't work and the file alone is still recognised and included in the TF3D player.
Are there any locations on internal storage which WILL show up for selection as ringtones but NOT in the music player?
MP3 ringtone
you can place a mp3 file anywhere on your phone and then tap and hold and set as a ringtone. i belive this does automaticly move it to the phones memory tho as well as being on the extra storage.
hey anyone knows how to download mp3s from your phone
ps: i dont no if this is the good place to ask this im srry if it isnt im new thats y
thx
Assigning vibration to a specific contacts text messages and calls
Hi, sorry if this does not belong here, I think it is at least related . Does anyone know if there is an option (can not find it in the settings of the touch diamond) or tweak which would assign vibration to a specific incoming text message? Meaning: when I turn down the ring tone not to be disturbed acousticly, I want the phone vibrate only when one specific contact calls or sends text message. Thanks to all for any ideas
Hi all
Problem, all ringtones and sounds do not play, even music in the music player does not play ?.
I posted a solution for this problem a while back for somebody else, that worked for me and them, but now it wont.
The solution was to use memmaid to transfer storage of the sound files from main memory to storage card and then back, and it solved the problem.
But its happened again, all my ringtones music and sounds just will not play, but i get the volume up and down sound?
Also selecting any ringtone from the menu just results in the phone displaying none.
The sounds are there,m just like the music is on the card, so whats the issue with this dog**** phone, still running stock rom.
Me too. Any clues? Can't change ringtone - looks like a hard reset looming? Sounds and notifications won't hold my choice...just defaults back to some default 'ring tone 1' nonsense
Any ideas at all? Thanks in advance.
