o2-uk GPRS settings - Networking

Hi, Im having some trouble getting GPRS to work on my mini s.
I have just re-installed to a basic setup
If i go...
START->SETTINGS->CONNECTIONS->CONNCETIONS->ADVANCED->SELECT NETWORKS
the option in the drop box is My ISP or I can choose My Work Network, should o2 mobile web be in here too?
If i go
START->SETTINGS->CONNECTIONS->CONNCETIONS>MANAGE EXISTIN CONNECTIONS>(this brings you to the My ISP page) i have Name as "Mobile Web" and Number as mobile.o2.co.uk.
If I then edit, the name for the connection is "Mobile Web" with modem as "Cellular line (GPRS) Next>Access pont name is "mobile.o2.co.uk" NEXT> user name "O2web", password is ****************.
Tap ADVANCE>the TCP/IP tab is using server assigned IP address, TAP ON SERVERS TAB>USE SPECIFIC SERVER ADDRESS (DNS 193.113.200.200, alt DNS is 193.113.200.201). Tap OK> FINISH
If i try to connect to the net to look at google (or any other page) the large square G turns smaller with the 2 arrows and I get:
Cannot connect
Dialed mobile.o2.co.uk
Cannot connect for an unknown reason. To check and change settings BLAH BLAH BLAH....
All help appriciated!!! ( ireally need a step by step walkthrough if anyone has one. Im normally OK with computers, but this has beaten me so far!!!)
Thanks, Paul.

Can you search for a post by me regarding buymobilephones.net
I've posted settings there for UK o2 and orange.

Thanks

Here you go

Hi, thanks for posting.
Before i try it i have 2 questions...
1/ Is it for the mini s (it says "exec connections only")
2/ Erm...what do i do with it when ive downloaded it?
sorry to be such a noobie
Thanks, Paul

I have tried to search for instructions on how and where to install the files from the download above, but couldnt find anything (Google didnt help either)
Can anyone let me in on the secret please?!?!?

You just copy the files to your PDA and double click on it using an explorer program (I recomend gsfinder+ as a good explorer replacement).
V

Hi,
I just tried that, i get a "there is no association with"Connec-1". Run the application first then open this file from within the application.
Any ideas what im doing wrong?
Paul

Thanks Vijay - I installed this file fine but am still getting the same error message when try to load a url in Internet Explorer - "connection is lost" even though the task bar says it's still connected...any ideas?

ATT GPRS HELP PLEASE!!

Ok, I bought this Siemens on Ebay and it came with the Special Editon ROM 1.2. Problem is I can't ever seem to get it to connect to ATT Wireless, it has T-Mobile options but it appears to not allow ATT Wireless. It works fine as a phone and it accepts the ATT Sim Card. I went to AT&T and set up the connection so that I can connect to att GPRS. Well it connects however anytime i try to access e-mail or any website in IE or any of the web programs that came with this rom it will give me a page can't be found error. Anyone have a fix? Thank you!!!!
You should be able to connect without any problems, so I would guess your troubles are in your connection settings and not the software on your device. Do you still have the SER (a version 3 ROM) on the device or have you burned on a version 4 (WM 2003) ROM? The whole connection setting setup changed quite a bit between the two, so we'll need to know.
Where would i finf that info you requested? I unfortunately just got the device with the rom installed in it. Gotta love Ebay. I followed the tutorial on AT&T's website and it connects but any software will say page can't be found etc
This is what I did:
Setup Guide - PocketPC 2002
Setting up the Connection
Tap Start, then tap on the Settings icon from the drop-down menu.
Select the Connections tab, then tap on the Connections icon.
In the top drop-down menu, tap on the down arrow and select New...
Type in a name for your connection in the General tab window, such as AT&T GPRS. (This is the name you will see when you look in the top drop-down list on the Connections screen.)
Tap on the Modem tab, and tap on New... in the Name/Number window.
Type in a name for your connection settings, such as AT&T GPRS, then tap on the down arrow beneath "Select a modem:" and tap on the Cellular Line (GPRS) modem to select it. Tap Next to continue.
Type proxy in the Access point name field.
Tap Finish to complete the setup.
Tap OK to return to the Settings screen for the newly created connection.
Tap the Proxy Settings tab. Make sure that This network connects to the internet and This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet are both checked. In the Proxy server: field type localhost. Tap the Advanced... button.
Type localhost in the HTTP field and 9090 for the port. Type 10.250.250.250 in the WAP field and 9201 for the port. Type localhost in the Socks field and 1080 for the port. In theType: section, select Socks 4. Leave the User ID and Password fields blank.
Tap OK and tap OK to return to the Connections screen.
Making the Connection
In the top drop-down menu, select the AT&T GPRS connection you had created.
Tap Connect to establish your connection.
At the Network Log On screen, leave all of the fields blank and tap OK.
A status dialog will appear showing the status of the connection. Tap Hide to hide the status dialog.
You are now connected to the AT&T Wireless GPRS service.
Ok here you go take a look at the below thread and see if it helps:

Thanks for your great info.
I used special edition 1.2 to unlock my Siemens sx56. According to your direction, I set up the GPRS connection successully. Every time when I dial up, it will connected smoothly.
The Problem is:
When I use explorer, no page will load. Alway show " can not find the page your are looking for"
Do yo have any solution?
Thanks in Advance
My PDA is:
Windows Pocket PC 2002
ROM Version 3.17.03 ENG
ROM DATE 5/15/03
Radio Version A.20.10
Protocol Version 324e4
Confirming the above link was of no help?

Will the only other suggestion that I have is to roll back to the
SX56 ROM A.20.17.
It can be found at:
http://www.my-siemens.com/com.apert.../da/us/mw/mc/mc/ruuv1.11_cea.20.17wwe_aws.exe
How-To roll back/reinstall:
Download the above A&T& SX56 update.
Run the downloaded .exe file.
Once it has finished 'unpacking files', cancel out of it. It should leave everything in place in the C:\Program Files\SX56 upgrade utility.
Now download adaptROM.exe from:
http://xda-developers.com/adaptROM/
Place the adaptROM.exe in C:\Program Files\SX56 upgrade utility
Then go to DOS and run adaptROM.exe from the C:\Program Files\SX56 upgrade utility folder.
After adaptROM run the AT&T SX56 update again it will attempt to unpack files, **Say NO TO ALL when it asks to overwrite**. This time, go all through the update. It will update the Radio first, then the ROM of your device.

Work-around to proxy problem with 4.1.0 upgrade for ATT SX56
I just went through the same operation to upgrade my AT&T SX56 to the
latest pre-release of T-Mobile's 4.1.0 from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=21147&highlight=#21147
I followed the same steps as MrDJ described six messages earlier, and
had a similar problem to his and deepblack's, even after doing what Qman
suggested with the APN field in
http://xda-developers.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?p=17622#17622
I discovered that the problem also occurrs when connected through my
laptop's network card using ActiveSync, and that gave me a clue. So I
went back to my AT&T connection settings and did one other proxy
related thing.
Go the the Proxy tab and uncheck "This network uses a proxy server to
connect to the internet". After applying this setting, I was able to connect
through either the phone or the ActivevSync network connection. It turns
out that the "Access point name" in my configuration is still set to "proxy",
but it doesn't seem to matter since the connection doesn't use a proxy per
the Proxy tab.
Thanks again to XDA Developer's for running this site. It's one of the best
run and most helpful user communities I've ever seen.
HELP!! can't seem to setup internet connection Siemens SX56
Now that it's unlocked from AT&T wireless, I am able to use it on my Cincinnati Bell Wireless (an AT&T affiliate - we don't have AT&T service available in Cincinnati) as a phone and PDA only without internet connection. But their tech guys 'don't support that phone' so they can't give me the Access Point Name or WAP settings etc. to try and connect to the internet. I do have a GPRS connection and actually had already setup a WEBCLIENT account with them from my old Blackberry days (that phone sucked).
Anyway, I tried all the connection settingS as follows:
GPRS Connection, Cellular Line (GPRS), GPRS Connection +0 ~GPRS!
APN 'BLANK' (tried 'proxy' but that didn't work either)
PROXY SETTINGS:
PROXY SERVER: localhost
HTTP: localhost PORT: 9090
WAP: 10.250.250.250 PORT:9201
SOCKS: localhost PORT:1080
SOCKS 4
So, now what? I don't know where to get help and what more I need to do. I think that I need a string between +0 and ~GPRS but I don't know what it is or where to get that information.
When I try to connect now, I get a Trouble Connecting message:
"There is no answer at the number dialed. Verify phone number and then try again. To change your connection settings, tap Settings. If the problem continues, contact your ISP or network administrator."
I would really appreciate your input on this.
Thank you.
Shmi
Im having the same problem with cincy bell...any help would be greatly appcrieated.
Thankn you

Vodafone live and jasjar

I have a normal sony 3g phone and i can access all the vodafone live content with streaming video etc, how can i set my jasjar up so it can access the same content and stream video etc from vodafone
Cheers
Chris
you need PV player installed (find it thought a search on this forum) plus the direct url which im still trying to find myself.
First off, you need to connect to Vodafone live! using the wap connection details rather than the usual "internet" APN.
Set this up using the "Work" connection. Go "start", "settings", "connections" then click on the "connections" icon. Go to "My Work Connection". Click on "manage my connections" then click on "Vodafone wap" which should have wap.vodafone.co.uk under the number column (I am assuming you have installed the Vodafone CAB which automatically puts in this connection). Move across to the tab which says "Proxy settings". Tick the box which says this network connects to the Internet. Tick the box which says This network uses a proxy server. Click on Advanced, then tap on HTTP . Enter 212.183.137.12 in the Server box and enter 8799 in the Port box. Click ok. Right, that is first part done.
Second part requires editing registry. PEASE BACK UP your registry before proceeding. For Vodafone Live! WAP page to think you are a 3G mobile, you have to fool it into believing you are an 'approved' handset. For internet explorer, the registry key to change is:
[HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\5.0\User Agent\]
Change (Default) from Mozilla/4.0 to 'Nokia6630' and clear all the other values such as compatible, Desc, Platform, UA-language, Version.
You may need to reboot after making these changes.
Once you've changed these settings, connect to Vodafone Live! (make sure you are in UMTS coverage) and goto: http://live.vodafone.co.uk
Now you should see Vodafone live come up in full view with images and extras. Sky TV is available but I still have problem getting it to link properly into the PVplayer. At the moment I have to copy the link and then open PV player and paste it for it to play. use the Pocket Plus Internet plugin to do this with ease. Sometimes some of the channels are not working properly, so go to Channel 4 and test that first. Hope this helps.
admsi
might seem strange i follow your instructions right the way through but then everytime i get to the live page it trys to download a file called my docusmts/If i try to rename or save elsewhere or even save as that name it says file in use by other program and wont let me do it.
Any ideas
Peter
Would it not be easier just to make a note of the urls (link address) then connect your universal to the wap gateway (as directed by admisi) then enter the shortcut into pv player? This way would save you messing with pie? BTW I tried the instructions out myself however all I managed to do is make my pie crash (had to hard reset to fix things)
Hi Ratcom,
Just sent you a pm making some progress now got live working etc etc

PM repied ! Good luck and dont forget them url's
Thought the same myself about the URLs and even saved them all as favourites in PV Player. But, you guessed it, they keep changing, so URL doesn't stay valid. Pain in the backside.
Pvplayer
I am Trying to setup Vodafone Live on my XDA Exec according to the Instructions of this Forum.
Unfortunatley I cant find a copy of PVPlayer. does anybod know how to get it. ITs available on there site for a nokia for a very reasonable price, however I cant find it anywhere for Pocket Pc.
Any Ideas?
Hi
Here it is
Authorization Failed
I think I am getting warmer.
I have entered all the settings as above.
However clicking the link does not launch the tv in pvplayer.
so I tried copying the link rtsp://stream.vodafone.co.uk/lv/lv01/live/vf-stream-t-27.sdp into the pvplayer directly, however I get a message saying Authorization Failed.
Anybody know what I am doing wrong?
Thanks for the info guys worked a treat, only thing we need to fix is the live tv streams to open and work automatically in pvplayer, anyone any ideas how
Thanks
Chris
anybody know where this vodafone cab is?
I don't have a clue what to put as username, password, domain or access point name if i try to create a connection manually.
I did find a cab Vodafone UK Contract.cab from Imate, but it did nothing, i installed it into main memory, resetted and nothing had changed so I uninstalled it again!
I dont have the Vodafone Cab File but here are the settings that u need:
Make an internet connection,
use cellular line GPRS 3G
Access Point NAME: wap.vodafone.co.uk
username: wap
Password: wap
then for this connection you need to setup a proxy.
Http: 212.183.137.12:8799
This should work i think.
This is the cab file run it and it will install the vodafone internet and wap settings on your device then you dont need to enter any passwords etc.
I have done this and followed all the instruction byt cant get the tv to play it says unauthorised anyone any ideas
Cheers
Chris
excellent, working like a dream over here!
shame that the tv's buggered tho any progress on this working?
ERm is that Cab file Above Complete?
I ran it however it does not seem to have added any connection settings?
it changes the registry to point to /program files/vodafone uk contract
however when I browse for that directory it does not exist.
Is the Cab Above just for the Imate or would it work on a XDA EXEC Also?
Thats all i did and it installed the wap connection settings
I assume those guys getting Unauthorised Access are using Vodafone SIM cards with 3G enabled - otherwise you're wasting your time!

Vodafone GPRS Settings?????

Assistants required!!
I have attempted to set up GPRS on my M600 (Unlocked for Vodafone sim)
GPRS has been enabled as I have the G icon up!
I have been on the vodafone website and tried there settings with no luck!
I have been on the Filesaveas website and plugged in all of those settings with NO luck, Have also installed the I-mate .cab again with no luck!!!
I am starting to go insane spent three days trying all different settings and No luck at all!!!!
You name the website and I think Ihave probably tried it.
Does anyone have any useful advise for me, provide me with some form of sanity check!!!!
Ideally I wold love a .cab file to install!
But would like feedback from anyone else in a similar position, on how they resolved this some what annoying issue!!!!
regards
Wilko_007
I set up my Vario II for Vodafone with no problem. These settings (*.pdf file) seem to be the same as the ones I used, see how they compare with the settings you are using.
Many thanks I will give it a go!
Ok have now got connection but I can't surf?
I have seen comments about GPRS beening fully enabled?
Are there 2 forms of GPRS that can be enabled? WAP & WEB???
Do I need to worry about the Dialing Rules???
Thanks in advance for your assistance!!
[/img]
Could you be a little more specific i.e. does it come up with a pop-up box stating that it is connecting to GPRS? If yes, which connection does it say it is connecting to, is it the correct one (i.e. the new GPRS settings that you have just keyed in)? When you say it won't surf, what do you mean exactly ... are you using Pocket IE and does it come up with any error messages etc...
Connection via GPRS No probs I then get the Small G and the two arrows fixed on the bar.
Enter IE and type google for example.
get the status bar flash up breifly and then disapear, with no change to the original Orange World Home page!!!
No errors what so ever????
okay ... the next thing I would probably do then is download an alternative browser to see if it still happens in a different browser. Netfront is pretty good. At least that way you should be able to establish if it is a GPRS problem or a browser problem.
Ok I now have installed Netfront and connected to the GPRS!
typed in www.google.com
I have a warning screen:
Browser Warning
Cannot load Page
Type: DNS no server is specified
?????
Okay .. I am running out of ideas now, it does sound like your GPRS Settings are still wrong.
Click 'start menu', 'settings' and go to the 'Connections' tab. Now click 'Connections', then the 'Advanced' tab then 'Select Networks'. The first box (ie. Programs that connect to the Internet automatically) should say 'My Isp' and if you click 'Edit', it should show you 'Vodafone Internet' is selected.
If you then select to edit that, you should see in this order 'Vodafone Internet' and then it should show modem type as GPRS, next page should show Access Point Name of 'Internet', next page should show User name 'Web' ... password is the same, domain field should be blank ... nothing needs to be done in the advanced tab because the default of 'Use-server-assigned IP address' should automatically be selected, same for the server tab too, default should be server-assigned.
These are the settings that work fine on both my XDA Mini S and my MDA Vario II.
Right I have checked both ISP and MyWork Network, all correct!
The only thing I can see is that the password box has loads of characters (*'s) instead of just 3 *'s for WEB (***)
But every thing else is as the PDF??
Stumped!!!!
you can try messing with the newly released ms network tools there is a link in development forum
or you can try manualy typing in a know dns server in the settings
unless the gprs dont route the request
any dsn server ip will do
same as pc's really
I am afraid I don't know then ... we have reached the level of my knowledge (which isn't high )
Perhaps somebody with a little more technical knowhow on GPRS issues may be able to help you.
Sorry I couldn't get it sorted for you.
Thanks for your help a least I can connect now!!
Thank you again!!
anyone heard of the connection No. being *99#?
Vodafone instructed me to put that in the setup?
I guess that goes in under the " My Work Network" Vodafone Wap - Number?
This is now becoming a huge headache anyone got any ideas?
not sure how vodaphone handle it but i never heard about
ppl having to add numbers when they picked gprs as connection
belived that was only if you connected around grps

I'm expericening a similar problem.
My phone was sold as an O2 XDA Mini S. My O2 contract/account doesn't allow GPRS (they want me to upgrade) so I tried my Vodafone PAYG SIM and it works without having to have the phone unlocked in any way. By that I mean I can use voice calls and using the settings I've found through this site I can send MMS messages via GPRS but I cannot connect to the internet. I've checked with Vodafone and the account will allow internet and GPRS etc.
The only thing that I can see that is wrong is the password. Whenever I type "web" then finish, it always defaults back to a string of 16 ***'s when I re-check the settings.
I've even done a hard reset and used the corporate install to no avail. I don't want to run any sort of unlocking software if I don't need to as I don't want to create a very expensive door stop.
Any ideas?
The string of asterisks is normal, I think it is just a method used by Windows to make the password more difficult for someone to guess i.e. by disguising not only the characters but also the number of characters.
I just double checked and my fully working settings also show a row of asterisks despite it being a 3 character password.
Thanks Nicky
I'll keep plodding away with this but hopefully someone might steer me in the right direction soon.

Virgin UK Network Settings CAB file

I know that there have been requests for this so here we are.
The attached ZIP file contains the CAB to automatically configure GPRS and MMS connections for the Virgin UK network. It has been successfully tested on an XDA II and SPV M1000, both of which are running 2003 SE. I don't have a pre-2003 or Mobile 5 device to try it on so I don't know if it works on them.
The 2 connections which are set up are called:
Virgin GPRS - this has been configured to also allow MSN Messenger to be used.
Virgin MMS
Before using it, I would advise the removal of any existing GPRS and MMS connection settings (though the choice is obviously yours). I would also advise to check that your happy with all of the MMS options/settings following the install (e.g. Save Sent messages is switched off with this CAB).
At last - God knows what i was doing wrong but with this cab and some manual setup of the Connection side of thing i have managed to send an MMS.
This CAB setup the MMS side perfectly (nothing on GPRS) - as i was typing from what i can gather ok for IP i was using the full xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx and server name i had put goto.virginmobile.uk whereas this cab just say picture message (not sure if this would cause and issue), but i am doing the connection via: My Work Network as thats where i setup the GPRS, rather than internet.
My Mobile is a Voda Compact III 1605, running HTC Rom 1.35 with windows mobile 5 - and have sent my 1st MMS after trying over a few days!
thanks
How do I install this cab file?
Copy the CAB file to your device and execute it...
sbgorner, you rule!!!
iv been trying to get my mms to work for 5 days now and was readt to smash my phone to pieces. your cab worked perfectly.
Thanks V Much

Remove old network connections before installing the CAB
The CAB file does really rely on the fact that there are no existing network specific connection details installed on the XDA. The best way to ensure that old network connections are not affecting the Virgin settings is to delete them, i.e. ensure that only the standard "My ISP" and "My Work Network" entries are still present.
1) Go to Start->Settings and on the "Connections" tab, tap on the Connections icon.
2) Tap on the "Advanced" tab.
3) Tap on the "Select Networks" button.
4) Use the drop-down arrow to select an entry (do not select "My ISP" or "My Work Network").
5) Tap on the "Edit..." button.
6) Tap on the "General" tab.
7) Tap on the "Delete Settings" icon.
8) Repeat steps 4 to 7 until all of the entries (do not select "My ISP" or "My Work Network") have been removed.
Having removed all of the network specific connection entries, try reinstalling the Virgin UK cab file again and everything should work.
You diamond. Just sent Virgin a bollocking. They suggested I contact O2 about setting this up. Your cab file much appreciated by a middle aged member.
Thanks
Will try!
Much appreciated!

Just tried this after a week of trying various settings, now got access to gprs, thanks.
I have followed your instructions but after running the CAB file the VArio II still doesn't connect. If I click on the edit settings link it doesn't think there are any settings, as I only have the option to install a new ISP. However if I try to manually install a new ISP using the name Virgin GPRS it won't let me as it says a connection already exists with that name, but nowhere can I find any trace of that connection. What is going on please?

I'm in exactly the same position with my O2 XDA mini S.
I could possibly try using a different ISP name but I'd rather find out why this is happening and delete the connections made by the CAB file. As I can't find the connections though I can't delete them.
Ok, Time for an update.
Using Virgin GPRS2 didn't work and I've found out how to remove the setting created by the CAB file. I went to add and remove programs and removed the changes that way.
I have followed the instructions from this thread to no avail. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=238042&highlight=virgin+gprs
I'll keep plodding along but if someone can offer any suggestions i'd lve to hear them.
Ps. Don't be rude.
Hi Bouncypete
I also discovered that I could get rid of the bad settings using remove programs, but am also no further forward in finding the correct settings. I have sent a private email to sbgorner (he doesn't appear to subscribe to any forums) but have not had a reply. Anybody else out there got any ideas?
Virgin GPRS settings
Hi Bouncypete -success!!!
I have found an older posting from sbgorner which gives a blow by blow manual way of doing the settings and it works!!.
I will try and attach this as a pdf, but if the attachment doesn't come through then email me and I will send it to you direct
ran VirginUK.CAB - no settings added
I deleted all the old gprs etc connection settings and ran CAB file, but get no settings visable in network connections just "my isp" and my work network". When I try and enter settings manually I get to the "modem" new page and enter Virgin GPRS or MMS select Cellular GPRS/3G and next and it tell me I'm adding a duplicate setting although there are no settings visible. This happens after removing the CAB settings that make no difference in remove programs? Any Ideas apart from clearing the phone down?
Thanks for the pdf link - sorted me & my orbit out

Can connect GPRS,3G but can't see Web..Please Help

Hello guys
I am suffering for a few days on this issue in HK..
I just sim-unlocked my x01ht by M3100v4Unlock from Imei-check(OS is still Japanese), and try to setup my environment one by one.
However one of simple setting to connect by Gprs still has problem..
Please help me if you guys have any idea.
Summary of my situation:
1. GPRS (by Peoples SIM) : can connect but cannot see web site by IE
2. 3G (by CSL SIM) : can connect but cannot see web site by IE
3. Wifi : can connect and no problem to see web site by IE
for case 1&2, IE error message says "Cannot show page, please check the address and try again".
It seems address is not solved into IP address(Like cannot find DNS server)..
howver i still don't have any solution..
Would you please give me some advise for this problem?
Thank you !
go to start>settings>connections>connections>connections>advanced>select networks> and in the drop down list select the connection you are using to access the net.

Thank you so much for your quick reply.
I just checked the setting you taught me,
However I found out I already selected the appropriate setting you mentioned.
Normally for WiFi connection I select "My Work Network" &
for 3G/EDGE I select "My ISP Connection".
Also make sure all the APN, username & password correctly enter.

cpz21,
Sorry, I was so happy by myself.
I'm using genuine softbank japanese version bought in end of Dec.
As I am new in this toy, can't give you good advise at this moment..
Thanks akind. I'm mostly using opera 8.6 right now, or I can restore registry, or just not to sync with home PC (sync at work seems ok)
Sooner or later I will find the reg key
Hi cpz21
Last night I hardreset my device and setup from the beginning.
Of course I deleted the reg key and test IE then no problem.
However, this morning i went to web by IE in subway through gprs, it can't show web page.
Then I arrived office and checked the reg key again, found it still there...
Don't know why it come to be like this..
Just for your information.
