I have an XDA 1 and have been trying to connect to the Internet with various SIMS.
I notice that when I insert a password, or in some mobile providers cases, leave it blank, the password box is filled with asterisks. Is this causing the problem of not being able to connect?
How do I get the asterisks to disappear if they are causing the problem?
Gill, don't get excited about this reply as I can't help with your query!
I just wanted to ask you if you have found a solution for connecting to the internet using the XDA1?
I have an XDA1 on pay as you go with O2, I don't subscribe to the GPRS service but have read somewhere here that it might be possible to connect to the internet for nowt! It's ths nowt that I like.
If you do find a solution, I'd be grateful if you could share it.

Hi John
I have not found a way to connect to the Internet yet with the XDA 1 and O2 pay as you go. It's very annoying. I have managed to get some sort of WAP site but it's from 2003. It is using up money fromy my O2 card although I apparently get 1MB free of GPRS. I certainly have not browsed through 1MB of web pages.
I also have not heard of the NOWT thing - pity - I hope I find it as it sounds good to me.
If I do find a solution, I shall probably collapse in shock and won't be able to use my XDA! Only joking - I shall let you know!
I now you can browse the Internet on the XDA 1 as I have seen it done today with Virgin Mobile Pay as you go!

XDA 1 SOFTWARE
I have posted many messages this week regarding O2 and conncting to the Internet with an XDA 1 and a Pay as you go O2 SIM.
I have mentioned that, when I do connect, it connects to an out of date service from 2003. I wonder if the software on the XDA 1 needs upgrading in order for me to connect to the Internet?
Can anybody help?
Thank you.
Thanks for the reply Gill
I'm sure we'll find a way with all the help available on here. I know I've seen the details posted somewhere but didn't make a note!!
Have fun
John
I can get full internet access with the xda 1 and a payg sim on O2. Please message me as I dont wish O2 to slam the door on this.
Hi all,
I've spent the last 3 weeks searching through everything so as not to waste anyones time with a simple question but to no avail.
I've been given an XDA II from a family member as they have upgraded to the Exec and I have been using it as a PDA only. Well I see that Orange have some good deals on the go and so decide to use it as a phone/Internet enabled PDA.
I've unlocked it (many times now) got 2003SE on it and have put the correct MMS and GPRS settings in (The ones from Shadamehr). I've checked with Orange and GPRS is enabled on my account with them (PAYG at the mo) but for some reason the same thing that was happening when I first got it pops up
"Cannot connect
There is no modem at the above number..."
So best my small mind can figure is that somehow the 'phone part' of the PDA isn't working. I've tried other sims in it and they don't work either (o2 and Three - but I think Three is funny anyways). Is there something wrong with the actual phone bit?
It's a legit XDA with the M1000 ROM upgrade from the orange site which has made it 2003SE
Does anyone have any knowledge about how I can get my PDA to be a phone? It was once before (but with O2)
Thanks in advance for any and all help.

No modem at above number
Thanks for the link, but believe me I've tried this. I retried it to be sure just now.
"No modem at above number" is what I get after the XDA II tries to connect.
I have no phone reception whatsoever, no internet and no SMS.
My XDA II just works as a PDA with no communication possiblities apart from USB cradle.
Again, thanks in advance for any and all help with this.

If there's no phone reception, and no GPRS, how do you expect to connect to one?
Not to be mean or anything, but aren't your hopes of connecting a little farfetched if all the systems you're trying to use are down?

Your not being mean, believe me after a month of searching through here and SPV developers anything that wuld resolve this issue would be appreciated.
Why would the phone element of my XDA just stop working? I can only imagine some sort of Hardware fault but I'm a thorough bunny and would like to make sure of this. A diagnostic app or some way of reading the phone element like a device driver would be handy.
So in brief, why has my phone part of my XDA II stopped working and how do I switch it back on again (if this is at all possible)?
Thank you for your replies thusfar Cynagen, I shall start to ask these questions in the Himalaya forum also now since it seems model specific and not network related.
Any and all further assistance is much appreciated.

Hi guys,
whenever i try to connect my imate kjam (wizard,Qtek 9100,MDA Vario, O2 XDA Mini S, SPV M3000, Cingular 8125, T-Mobile MDA, Dopod 838, VPA compact II etc) to my university's wlan, my pda tells me that it is unable to resolve ip. Um perhaps it says unable to find ip, im not sure, i'll check again this arvo and return with my answer.
My uni claims that their system is pda compliant which makes me think that one of my connection settings are wrong.
Before you flame away, i have searched many many threads for this thread using keywords such as wifi, wlan, unable, ip etc, but was unable to find any solution that i havent tried already. Do feel free to offer your advice.
I have a g4 cid-locked wizard running wm6, though i have experimented with a few other roms, but they all offer the same problem.
If anybody has any suggestions i hope you feel free to flame away or kick me in the bum in the direction of where i might find a solution to this problem. If im lacking any info in this post then do feel free to remind me and i'll edit it later.
Thanks guys
problem solved.
How did you solve it?

Just for the sake of learning, would you please tell the community what was causing the problem and how did you solve it?
Hi All,
Just bought XDA Orbit from ebay, everything works great except I can't send/receive data using Bluetooth. It will allow me to pair with devices, but when I try to send or receive anything then it just says “Failed” Can someone please suggest anything, i've tried a hard reset but still the same.
Thanks in advance.

Found it
"Receive all incoming beams" needs to be selected!
I don't know what Microsoft were smoking when they thought that up
Thanks for the help every-none
Hi all, this is superlative forum, great job.
I am from a month owner of the HTC Touch HD and now I have a question: today i've tried for the first time to receive some file from my desktop computer at home and i've discovered that every time i was sending one file to the device this was refusing to accept it. For me this is really a strange behaviour, beceuse i've also tried to send file to other devices and even to my computer and i can do it but if someone sends some file to me i cannot receive it because the HD says "connection denied".
Please is there anyone who knows how to solve this problem?
I thanks in advance everyone who can help me to get rid of this situation.
Hi, this means that no one had this kind of problem?
Anyway i've found, after a while, what was wrong.
There is a flag that needs to be on in the "connections" page on the "transmitting" subpage.
I hope this could helpful for someone that can have this "stupid" problem.
