HOW to set: ActiveSync over Bluetooth - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Guys,
I can't setup ActiveSync 4.1 to work over BT
Can you please give me more details on how to do that?
I have a Win XP laptop with builtin BT.
Martin

did you do the normal procedure? i mean pairing the two devices?
you should do it though from the device, it's more certain to work.
anyway if it didn't, try to do the following:
check the connectiond settings in AS 4.1 & make sure to check the box where it says "allow connections to one of the following:" and take note of the port #.
then go to the advance configurations on the bluetooth icon on the task bar, click on the "local services" tab, and click on "add serial port" button, choose the same port # you noted in the connection settings in AS.
that's it, you should be able to sync over BT.

Internet Over Bluetooth Network

Hi,
I have wrote this wiki document and I wish someone gets his device connected to the "rest of the world" over a bluetooth connection.

Hi from a newbie. I've just bought the TyTn11 and would like to use bluetooth to access my laptop's internet connection. Part 1 of your instructions were easy enough to follow but part 2 confused the hell out of me - not least because I don't have a Network Cards icon from Start > Settings > Conections >. The TyTn is running WM6 if that's any help. Any pointers would be greatfully accepted
it's
Start > Settings > Conections > connections > adcanced > select network
pick the item in the dropdownbox which is not called something like my isp or such
usualy the 2th item
Thanks Rudegar, I'll give it a try.
Hi,
I'm trying to get Internet over bluetooth working on my TyTN with WM6.
I've got bluetooth network access point configured on my Linux PC so part 1 is done.
In part 2 I've successfuly configured IP and DNS for Bluetooth PAN driver but I can't find the option "Join a personal network" in my bluetooth settings.
Actually I'm stuck in part 2 point 6 as there is no Bluetooth Manager link under bluetooth settings.
Any advice?

i just dont know what to do, help...
How about two pocket pc's?
I'd like to connect my bluetooth-enabled e800 through my hx4700,but there's no "connection sharing" that I can enable. Is it enabled automatically?
thankx mate for info but i have htc p3300 Start > Settings > Conections > connections > adcanced > select networkit show only ( 1 my work network)(2 my ISP)which i should connect????
Hi,
I can't find out how to access this on a HTC Touch (Elf). Can someone please help?
Thanks
SubZero,
I not sure if you're instructions are correct.
From you wiki page-
Part 2: Setting Up Your HTC:
1. Go to Start > Settings > Conections > Network Cards. This option doesn't exist!
2. Tap the adapter named Bletooth PAN User Driver. You will now see IP Address tab selected in the Settings.
3. Select Use server-assigned IP Address.
Could someone who has done it on thier HTC diamond please check this?
Thank You

Using XDA2i as a Modem

Hi All,
been reading and searching for info but still cant find the relevant stuff..... Okay, can I connect my PC to my XDA and use the internet via GPRS? I have done this years ago using another phone but for the life of me I can't work it out
Can someone tell me the procedure for this? At the moment I surf around on the XDA but would rather just link the PC to it.
Cheers,
Gary
here's some notes i wrote myself about how to use the phone as a modem over bluetooth.
How to for bluetooth modem.
(1. Delete both blutooth profiles on the devices
2. On the pda go Start -> settings -> System -> bluetooth settings, and tick both incoming and outgoing port options.
3. Create a bluetooth connection.)
4. Go to the wireless modem on the pda, choose bluetooth in the drop down box, and click start
5. click the ariel bit, and connect to gprs
6. on the laptop double click the xdaII dial up connection, and make sure the bluetooth modem #3 is chosen
7. click dial. done!
Click to collapse
if you have both incoming and outgoing ports on the xda ticked, then in your bluetooth setting on the pc, you should be able to go to the bluetooth devices window, click the devices tab, select your pda, click the properties button at the bottom of the window, then in the resulting window click the services tab. make sure DUN (dial up netowrking.. i think this is one of hte options there) is ticked, and click ok. it should install a bluetooth modem driver thing in your network connections. this is the modem you use to dial out. you'll have to create your own dial up conenction using this bluetooth modem, i think it should be pretty standard, make the number to dial *99#. just incase you have problems with this modem, here's the settings of mine:
Bluetooth modem details (Standard Modem over Bluetooth link #4):
Driver tab, Driver details:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\bthmodem.sys
C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\modem.sys
Advanced tab: there are no extra initialisation commands. in the advanced port settings button it uses FIFO, the transmit and recieve are set to highest, and its set to COM12
Modem tab: speed is set to 115200
General Tab: Device Type: Modems, Manufacturer: Standard Cell Phones, Location: on Bluetooth Device (RFCOMM Prodtocol TDI)
Dial up connection details (XDAII):
Username: O2Web
password: blank (i think)
Properties button:
Advanced tab, settings button: firewall is off. ICS is unticked.
Networking tab: TCP/IP is on, QoS is on, Deterministic ntwork enhancer is on, novell client for windows is on. rest is off
Security tab: Typical (recommended settings) is chosen, in the dropdown box "allow unsecured password" is selected. everything else is not selected.
Options tab:
Display progress while connecting: on
Promopt for a name and password, certs, etc: on
Include windows logon domain: off
Prompt for phone number: on
Redail attemps: 3
Time between redial attemps: 1min
idle time before hangup: 20mins
redial line if dropped: on
General tab: Modemm - standard modem over bluetooth link #4 is the only one selected
configure button, max speed is 115200, all tick boxes are off
all devices call the same number: on
Phone number: *99#
use dialing rules: off
show icon on notification area when connected: on

did you use comport 20 for you activesync connection?
no i haven´t got 20 port available ...
thanks of new
I think I've got it
But it's a little tricky
1. Delete all connections on Pc and PPC
2. Start the Setup-Assistent and choose I want to find
3. Initiate Paaring
4. Choose ActiveSync without secure connection.
5. Set com20 if possible.
6. Please go to your ppc properties on your pc and allow active sync
If you coose com20 you can quit here, if not try this:
7. Start->Run->Regedit
8. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\WIDCOMM\BtConfig\Services\
9. Search the folder with Name=ActiveSync (I have 0010)
10. Change the ComPortNumber to 20.
11. Search with your PPC the services on your pc and take activesync
12. Go to the preferences of your bluetooth-enviroment of your pc and take the tab local services. Now change the com-port number of your activesync service to an existing one (I have 4).
Now it should work

What if my computer does not show Activesync as a bluetooth option. I can get PIM synchronization but no Activesync. How do I go about adding Activesync as a service my computer can use?
I think the Activesync service is nothing else then a serielle connection called "ActiveSync" with com-port 20. Just create this on manually.
i think tomorrow we have a new rom version, a uninstall AS, and HR to the ppc, then i do this test...
thanks
I have the same problem, when I try to connect from the PPC it says there's no partnership with an AS enabled PC. And when pairing / updating services, the PPC sees serial and handsfree services on the PC, but no AS. Partnership is established, it works fine over USB.
Like miguelromerom I also use the Widcomm stack. Mine is urrently version 5.0.1.1400. I tried several older versions as well.
On the PC I have an incoming bluetooth serial port at COM 4, which is named "My ActiveSync". Secure connection not checked. AS 4.1 is set to allow connections on COM 4. The service on the PC is active.
On the PPC I had optionally configured serial ports: incoming (7), and outgoing (6) to the PC. Set the non secure. Though I'm not sure if either of them is required. I suppose we're all agreeing the port numbers on the PPC bear no relation to the port numbers on the PC?

ActiveSync via Bluetooth
I am not sure how it will go with Wizard, but with Magician it help me.
I found this step, but I forgot the origin. So actually no permission from the author. I share this with hope can help others. Hopefully the author understand.

1)On your PC go to the Control Panel and select "Bluetooth". In the "Options" tab, make sure all the ticks are on. You'll now see a little bluetooth icon on your system tray. Makes it easier to access in the future. Your PC should also be ready to be found as long as you ticked the fist box in the step above.
2)On your Jam, Go to Start, Settings, System (Tab), Bluetooth Settings. On the screen that comes up you ONLY want to hit start. Leave the incoming and outgoing checkboxes OFF!!!
3)You will now be taken to the partnership screen, where you just follow the instructions to add your PC. Follow through until you hit finish. Close everything down until you're back at the today screen.
4)Back to your PC, double click on the Bluetooth icon in your system tray. Go to "Com Ports" (Tab) and click "Add". Choose incoming. A You'll see an incoming port added to the list (probably be the only item there). It should look like "COM X Incoming"
Remember what number is after COM. Close all windows, making sure you hit OK or Apply where you have to.
5)Open Active Sync on your PC. Hit File, Connection Settings. Enable the first tick, and select the COM port you had to remember in the previous step. Hit OK
6)Open Active Sync on your Jam. Choose Tools, Connect Via Bluetooth.

Using th Prophet as a GPRS Modem??

I've searched through the forums and haven't found anything regarding this specifically... does anyone know if we can use the Prophet (I have JAMin) as a GPRS modem? I used to use my Smartphone for this and would really like to use my new Prophet, but can't figure it out. The only time my laptop recognizes the hand-set as a modem is through Bluetooth and even at that doesn't allow a connection through Dial-up networking.
I would like to connect through USB... or by any means for that matter at this point! Help!
Yes, you can use the Jamin as a GPRS modem.
Instructions for setting this up thru USB and BT are at the bottom of the page.
http://www.imate.com/t-DEVICEMANUAL_JAMMIN.aspx
Please could you post the details as I can't see the site due to not being registered.
I own a Prophet too, but not a Jamin. Would love to know how to use it as a modem.
Thanks!
Pretty much copied word for word from the iMate document. However, I did do some editing as the original doc referenced screen shots that obviously aren't here.
1. From your PC's Windows desktop, double-click on the Bluetooth icon within the System Tray (Bottom Right Hand Corner of the screen).
2. This will open the Bluetooth Devices screen. Click on the Options Tab and tick the ‘Turn discovery on’ checkbox.
3. Tap on the COM Ports Tab and click the ‘Add’ button.
4. Select the Incoming COM Ports Tab and click the ‘OK’ button.
5. Click the ‘OK’ button.
6. On the PC’s System Tray in the bottom righ hand corner of the screen, right click on theActiveSync icon and select the ‘Connection Settings’ option from the pop-up menu.
Click the ‘OK’ button to conclude the COM port configuration for Bluetooth ActiveSync.
Uncheck the ‘Allow USB Connections’ checkbox and tick the ‘Allow connections to one of the following:’
From the dropdown list, select the appropriate COM port relevant to your PC, as shown in step 5 above.
Click the ‘OK’ button to conclude the COM port configuration for Bluetooth ActiveSync.
7. On the JAMin, the Bluetooth ActiveSync connection pairing attempt is made by the following steps.
A) Tap on the Comm. Manager icon in the bottom right hand corner of the Today screen.
B) Tap on the Bluetooth icon and select ‘Bluetooth Settings…’
C) Tick the checkboxes.
D) Tap on ‘New Partnership…’
E) Select the appropriate BT device from the list, then tap Next.
F) Enter the Passkey.
8. On the PC, a balloon appears above the System Tray, prompting the user to authorize the PDA’s Bluetooth access attempt. Tap on the balloon and then enter the same Passkey/PIN as was input into the device and press the Next button is clicked. A confirmation of completion screen will then appear.
9. On the JAMin, the ActiveSync Service needs to be confirmed by ensuring the check box is ticked and then tap Finish. (I don't remember if you need to manually start ActiveSync via BT after this. If you do, just open ActiveSync on the JAMin, tap on Menu then select ‘Connect via Bluetooth’)
10. Once the Bluetooth ActiveSync link has been established, the final phase of configuration is required. On the PC, you should get a Synchronization Setup Wizard window. Press the Next button.
11. Choose the relevant options that need to be synchronized between the device and PC, from the list, and then click the next button.
12. The ActiveSync Settings are saved.
13. Synchronization of the appropriate information types then occurs with the Exchange Server and PC as defined in step 11 above.
14. Click Finish.
for the ppc to detected as a modem you have to start the modem link. make sure you do not have active sync usb enabled. then with the disk in the drive of the pc enable the modem link. the pc will detect new hardware. then install the drivers from the cd rom.
Driver installation is driving me crazy!
I hope that someone can help me out because my problem is driving me nuts!
I have all the drivers on a CD as well as stored locally (unpacked, etc). Now, when I activate the modem link and the Laptop finds a new hardware, I am not able to install this driver (it says the device is unknown, while it should say HTC Modem (or something like this)).
So, I guess the problem is that the laptop does not know which drivers it should install. How can I install the driver without going through the setup wizard??
Any ideas?? It really seems a very simple process and I feel I shouldnt get stuck on this very first step.
Thank you for any advice!

thanks whyhon, these were the instructions I followed. Everything is ok now (the modem mystrially installed after a few attempts) and the laptop is now hooked up to the s200.
The last problem I am facing right now is that I can not connect to the internet. I have tried quite a lot of different settings but I am not able establish an internet connection.
What else could I be doing wrong?
Are you dialling to GPRS using the USBModem_Dialer.exe?
Try using window XP build in dialer.
Start> connect to > HTC USB Modem (WirelessModem)
>Click properties
In the option tab, check "promtp for name and password"
Then dial using your operation's name & password.
Make sure you enable the Modem Link (USB) in your WM5.
Suprisingly, i able to connect at 230.8kbs using my Prophet.

thanks whyhon! I have tried to connect this way or with a dialer.exe.
The problem is that I am able to connect the prophet to the laptop (230.4kbps) successfully but I am not able to open any internet sites. When I check the connection I see that I am sending packages (or data I guess) but I am not able to receive anything.
I have tried a lot of settings and followed instructions very thoroughly but I can not get this connection working for the life of me.
I am about to give up on this one.
Would I be able to simply dial to a connection like AOL by using airtime minutes? Or is that also a mayor task?
Any help is highly appreciated!
Thank yoU!
No one has an answer to this one?? Sitting at SF airport and would like to use internet via laptop rather prophet... Please perhaps anyone can suggest a remedy? It seems to be working fine for other people so it must be something simple to fix in my configuration. Thank you guys!
Yes, I know your problem. Either you have not set the APN in the dialer to the correct server, or your mobile provider requires a proxy server for all http requests.
In the latter case, you can assign the proper proxy server in IE options to be associated with this particular modem connection.

I believe that the APN settings are correct.
I havent tried the proxy server settings in IE though.
Now, how do I assign a particular proxy setting (I guess IP address and port #, right?) to a modem only??

ActiveSync 4.5 internet connection and Windows Mobile 6.0

Hi all,
When using Windows Mobile 5.0 with ActiveSync (4.2 or 4.5) the connected Universal (and other WM devices) uses the broadband internet connection from the PC.
With Windows Mobile 6.0 and ActiveSync 4.5 the PDA is not using the internet connection from the PC.
I don't know if this setting has anything to do with it, but checking/unchecking the ActiveSync connections option: Allow wireless connection on device when connected to the desktop doesn't change anything.
Is this a setting issue or is Windows Mobile 6.0 lacking this functionality?
Thanks!!
Well, mine works ok.... definitely working through my pc's network connection (turned flight mode on to be certain).

I'm too. I can't update any software for my Exec from My PC. Please help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Still no luck
Updated to ActiveSync 4.5 beta 2 and still no PC broadband internet on the Universal when connected.
Didn't try in flight mode yet.
Maybe this has something to do with the fact that Live Messenger also wants to connect by GPRS/3G only?
Is this some major issue or is it just me? I'm running the CB PDAVIET 2.00.04 PV PRO.
From Where I Can Download It ?

I just had the same problem. Here's how I solved it:
On the WM device, go to Start-->Settings and choose the "Connections" tab.
Click the "Connections" icon.
Under the "Office settings", click "setup a proxy server" and mark the first checkbox ("This network is connected to the internet" or something similar) but DO NOT check the second one.
In ActiveSync, under "Connection settings", choose to specify that "This computer is connected to the internet", and confirm.
From what I understood, this process is not... fully deterministic. By taking a look again to the Connections settings on my WM6 device, I see that the checkbox I selected is now unchecked again. Still, the internet connection works.
I hope that this can help.

Cannot connect to Internet via Activesync
Dear all,
I have a tytn II on activesync 4.5, I experience limited internet connectivity when cradled:
1. Able to access Avantgo server
2. Able to download weather for SPB traveler
BUT cannot:
1. Access Internet through Pocket IE - the device will go into 3.5G/GPRS/HSPDA to access
2. Cannot download weather info through the HTC plugin (Accuweather)
I did not experience any of this problem with the dopod838pro (on activesync 4.5 also). I wonder if this is related to the tytn II settings?
Your advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Hi all,
Since yesterday, I have to same problem as described above...
Anyone already has a solution for this??
Thanks,
Sam
