If these are simple please forgive me!
1) After been on a while I seem to be unable to make a phone call. Pressing the call button or phone icon on the main screen does nothing. I am forced to switch off and on - then works fine??
2) If I go "settings" I show 4 applications running yet when I click on that none come up in the window (ie the "task manager" box)?
Any advice appreciated - am I being stupid?

Task manager can shut down phone app
Are you using task manager to shut down that app with no name that looks like windows media player ?
If so, that's the phone app and it comes back up when you reset. There are threads on here about it. Yoyu can run the phone app from file explorer, but I can't remember what the app is. (It's on one of the threads).
Hope that helps.

Hi.
When I try to dial a number and it hangs up my phone starts to lag like crazy. Someones calls me back and I can't even answer. I'm using official 2.2 with performance fix.
Thanks in advance.

Can you please explain further and more clearly, not completely sure what your issue is.
Are you saying when you call someone and they don't answer, they call you back and your dialer is lagging to the point you can't answer the call?

Thanks for answering. Yes, exactly as you described but not only that.
lets assume that you are my friend and i dial your number and you don't pick up. if i try to call you again it's almost impossible. The phone reminds me of an old windows 98 PC with a ton of crap loading in start-up and once you try to open 2-3 apps nothing moves. The problem seems to be hogging my CPU. Is there a CPU/memory monitor that i can see what happens when i use the dialer?
Bump:-(

It's either your home launcher or a rouge app. Some troubleshooting steps but no answers
1. Try using Free Advanced Task Manager to see what Applications are running on your device at any given time. Uninstall one at a time to find rouge app.
2. Restart your home launcher (i.e. ADW EX would be home > menu > ADWSettings > Restart ADW
If restarting Launcher does it, than you probably just need to clear data (make a backup first) under ADW (or whatever launcher) Application Info.
ALso, worth a shot would be to Wipe Dalvik cache under the Recovery boot option. (power on with Vol up + Vol down). Wiping Dalvik does not delete user data nor remove any programs. simply rebuilds Android real time compiler upon first reboot (will take a while to boot one time).
Another idea is to run aLogCat, causing error to occur and than sift through your error log.
My phone randomly vibrates without any notifications or apps running. It only happens when the screen is off. and yes I know about the feature which vibrate if you have a notification once you touch the phone.

Where do you enable that feature?
I was gonna post a thread about this issue earlier today lol. Mine vibrates when ever I touch it. If it sits on the dresser or in my pocket for a bit and I go to grasp it, it will vibrate. I don't touch any buttons yet and it vibrates. I'm wondering if it's the smart stay feature using the camera to see movement.

Mine randomly vibrates when I enable USB3 mode to move large files. It vibrates for a second at the start of the transfer and a few times (when different files are moving).

I know there is a feature when u pick up your phone, and there is some kind of notification waiting for you, the phone will vibrate. This is a feature that is built in to TouchWiz. There should be a setting to turn it off, but cant remember right now off the top of my head.

Thank you!!!!!!! This was driving me insaine since I reset my phone last week!
Use task manager
Press menu, go to task manager, RAM, clear memory.
That worked for me. It closes 9 programs.
Hey All,
All you have to do is ....
Go to TASK MANAGER app,
Go to the Downloaded tab from Task Manager
UNinstall Playstore.
That's all!
Vibrating due to Account Sync (Loop?)
For anyone still wondering:
It is because the phone is syncing up for some reason it doesn't stop syncing (Looping?)...
Best way around it:
Settings->Accounts and sync->Background Data/Auto Sync Turn Those off!
After a restart it should stop vibrating and get quite alot faster.
Sidenote:
Samsung Galaxy Pocket (GT-S5300) is the phone i that had the issues and got fixed this way.
just DELETE/UNINSTALL GOOGLE PLAY SERVICES "update"
-Pydro
FINAL SOLUTION!!!!
Please ignore all of the comments above and below, except for what MYFRED and mr08022001 Pydro said. That is the solution. Simply uninstall or delete Google Play Services, and do not reinstall ever again. This is what was causing the constant vibrating on the phone. Plus it also rendered useless the Play Store app, so no applications could be installed or updated. I thought I had lost my phone due to the constant vibrating. But MYFRED helped me save it. Thanks mate, you are a genius. Alfred
Hi guys.
I don't know if anyone else has had this issue with downloading apk files from unknown sources.
OK so whenever I download any apk from sources other than the playstore. I know I should check the 'download from unknown sources' in the security section in the settings menu.
However when I press onto the apk and the installation manager asks to either 'install' or 'cancel' I try to press install but it doesn't work... Like no reaction on the screen... It's as if the screen is locked. But when I press the cancel button it works N hence apk isn't installed....
Does anyone have any solutions to this please let me know.
Thanks
I have attached a screenshot of which button doesn't work.
Your help would be much appreciated
Get rid of that task killer for starters! You dont need it, you're just killing apps that are gonna start up again so you're going round in circles. Unused RAM is wasted RAM.

Thanks mate it does make sense, I shall be deleting that.
And regarding the problem, after trying just about everything I wondered if my lock screen widget (echo) could have anything to do with it. So I deleted it, and presto! Install button is working!
I guess it was the widget app somehow messing with the touchscreen function on the phone.
For anyone having problems similar to what I had get rid of any lock screen widgets, screen dimmers etc.
Tc.
I had this on my old Z1, and now I have a note 4 and it's on it as well... Every few days I get a pop-up on my phone with a Chinese word (screen shot will be added), and despite all my efforts with anti-virus / anti-malware apps, it persists. I found nothing on it online... I used Google translate to try to make sense of this pop-up, all it says is " 堰" which translates into "weir". I used es file Explorer to search my entire phone for that Chinese word, it came up with nothing. I deleted all apps that I thought were suspicious, and still nothing. Could someone help me with this? It's driving me insane. Thank you.
Could it be an app that you had both on your z1 and have it on your new device as well? How about doing a factory reset and then if your problem persists? The only logical course I can think of is to install your apps incrementally and seeing when this starts again. Also, try to keep unknown sources and verify apps on under security. Hope that leads you in the right direction.
I've deleted almost all third party apps, did a factory reset, even flashed a new ROM from sammobile... It still happens. This problem started when I put my old memory card from my Z1 on the note 4. But I've switched it for a new one, and flashed the new ROM after that (and wiped data, and cache), and still no luck. I'm beginning to think it may have been a virus that implants itself to system files or something... I'm a noob though, I need some developer brain power for this
It could be a message from your SIM card or network.

Yes I agree with Jimmyness. Go get a new SIM card, assuming you moved the SIM from your old phone. You've changed everything else.
Alright, I'll give it a shot and let you guys know... Thanks

To see which app this pop-up message is belong to, try the following:
install Shortcut Master app > Menu > Capture Shortcut.
That shortcut master app... I'm not sure exactly what it's supposed to do.

What service provider are you using? Does this happen after a factory reset before you add your Google account? In thinking you are letting an app install after you reset.

It captures the shortcut of the popup shown on the screen.
That way you will know which app that popup is belong to.
Hi,
I recently set up my new phone and copied from my oneplus 6.
Everything worked well but the filemanager from op6 is somehow transfered and I cant remove it, and I cant find it among the apps.
The app is inactivated so I guess it doesnt disturb anything but it would be nice to get rid of it.
And also, I need suggestions on what filemanager-app to use. (to be able to for example, transfer from drive to phone.)

Xplore by lonelycatsgame is a great dual pane file manager and all I've ever used for years.
Are you sure it was transferred from the OP6 and not the Android default file manager? It's called just "Files" (with a light blue folder icon), as opposed to the "Files by Google" (bloatware) application.
I was asking about the same thing in another thread, because the Google app really sucks, and I couldn't figure out how to get the default file manager to show up in the app drawer. Personally I'm using Material Manager at the moment. Have to give Tulsadiver's suggestion a try as well now.

I have tried using an app called, "Files Shortcut" from the playstore. Which essentially launches the same Files app. Instead of using actibity launcher, this has been a solution for me. You could try this.

Oh perfect! This was exactly what I was looking for, as the default file explorer is totally good enough for me. It's lightweight, sleek and it can handle network storage, which Files by Google can't! Thanks for the tip!
Thanks.
The same goes for me.
Thanks everybody for your input.
Solid explorer is my choice. Have used it for many years. Never found anything better. Dual pane, supports cloud storage.
