Can I remove Calendar & Contacts bottom bar on today scr - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Is it possible to remove the Calendar and Contacts bar at the bottom of the Today Screen?
Regards

I don't think there are any registry hacks etc that seem to do the job yet.
I've written a program that will do it, but it's not quite ready for release.
No soft keys:

Minimised soft keys and start bar (and hidden tray)
V

Vijay, this looks great!!! Any estimates on when you might be able to release it? Thanks a lot!!!

k_kirk: It cleans up the WM5 Today screen quite a lot. They really made a mess with the Tray and the soft buttons taking up space. 33% of the screen is taken up by non Today stuff on the Today screen.
But there are a lot of options I have to think about:
-No start bar
-Minimised start bar
-Tray/No tray/Moved tray
-No soft keys
-Minimised softkeys
-In QVGA/VGA/Portrait/Landscape
-WM2003 and WM5
And I have to make this interact well with another plugin I wrote for it. It bends my brain and I have to stop thinking about it from time to time.
I had expected it to be finished by around now, but I got caught up learning TAPI for VJOkButt, and now I'm busy again on VJElectrify and a couple of other things. But hopefully, if I can concentrate a bit, I'll try to finish it. I want to get the basic WM5/WM2003 version out in the next week or so. But no promises I'm afraid

lol @ battery level (255%) and temperature (-5 degs).
Not quite ready for release, you say? Are you developing in the deep freeze?
j/k

SiliconS I already got told off for that... To test VJToggleToday for WM5, I needed to over fill the screen to measure the placement of the scrollbar. I couldn't find enough fat plugins so I used my old VJAudioNotes. Obviously the emulator's a cool dude!
Frankly I'm quite surprised VJAudioNotes works at all on WM5, but it works well on my universal It doesn't use any dodgy API so it should work fine I guess.

Update?
Vijay,
Any update on this? I would love to get rid of the soft keys displaying on my XDA Exec, they seem such a waste of valuable screen space.
Gaz

gazza99: I'll be posting some info in the next couple of days. Unforunately not directly related, but an interesting development.
It came out of ToggleToday research, so I'm kind of working on ToggleToday. But when you see what the "thing" is, you'll understand why I stopped for a little while... VJSihaya, coming soon.

contacts pic on today screen

can some one please tell me how i can put contacts pic on today screen,i seen it done with the treo 700 with windows 5.0.maybe some one can tell me of some software to do this,thanks
i use vjays phone tools and set shortcut with custom icon to my today screen launcher.
I also use VJPhoneTools on my Today launcher:

But there is a commercial app called MyPhoneShortcuts which does something similiar ($9.49).

Hi vjay,
when you gonna let us know how get out today screens looking this cool?
Bit busy
Holy sh*t VJ! That's some busy Today screen.
Davebo: Yeah, I'm still not happy about the spare bit of space in the middle (it's actually a plugin called VJTodaySpacer). Will have to put something ridiculous in there too! This plugin, VJEphemeris, is likely to substantially change shape as soon as I get a minute to re-address some of it. With my R&D on VJVolubilis etc, I want to build in one touch wifi/ir/bluetooth control etc, and some other stuff.
The screen looks busy but I find it quite easy on the eye (although I dislike analog clocks. I only did it to see how to do it..I think I'll remove it later)
I only have one screen, no virtual pages etc (yet!). The Quote of the day thing is funny, it auto sizes according to the size of the quote. So you get some long ones that autosize to like 3pixels high. Looks absurd
Has anyone gotten around to ripping the treo 700w rom yet? I'd like to have a look at their contacts dialer.
V
Wisbar Advanced Desktop will also let you put a shortcut to a phone number. Then I use vijay's tool for email and SMS.

Hi, can i ask what soft is adding icons to your taskbar on top. Thx a lot.
Alknaion - phone alarm, skin available here:

The fullscreen technique is not entirely compatible with WM5 yet. I've not had enough time to get it out yet. Chakra will tell you all about it.

I also use other plugins that I haven't released yet.

Wow you're screen's nice!!
What did you use to get all the essential indicators on your Top most Start bar? i.e. Missed Phone Call, SmS indicator and voicemail, those are really handy.
Also what app gives you the giant Time and date and temperature?
I'd be happy to get a screen even half as functional as yours.
rxr - the screenshot above is an older version of my Today screen, but it's stable.
When I'm feeling adventurous, I use a plugin that's in ongoing development (slowly) called VJEphemeris, combining various old and new features of my various plugins:
The bar at the top is using my app/trick called VJToggleToday to hide the start bar (actualy minimise it to the top 2 pixels), and then replace the start bar with PhoneAlarm. I'm not sure if PhoneAlarm is fully WM5 yet, this screenshot is from WM2003, my main phone.
The plugin giving the large date and temp on the earlier screenshot is something called VJAudioNotes, which has also been upgraded slightly, but is being replaced by VJEphemeris. It's mainly designed because I use a dual SIM, and I need to know which operator I'm running on easily. Unforunately I don't think it's fully WM5 compatible yet, but since I don't use a WM5 day to day, I've not investigated it yet.
Also hidden away there is NotesToday with a custom skin, not shown (the small dot under the QOTD plugin, and beneath that an unreleased spacer plugin called VJTodaySpacer.
I tested many many plugins before I settled on my combinations. I like them, they're stable and functional for me. People will have personal preferences... but I like a usable but informative Today screen. Pretty pictures of naked women aren't helpful when glancing at the Today screen during a meeting :wink:

Using a customized HTCTODAY
(its posted here , use search)
Just does what I want and its small!

Full screen app?

Anyone know if there is a small app to allow you to toggle from a display with menu and task bars to full screen in any app?
TIA
Ed
You might want to take a look at this... VJ's contribution of the toggle tool for today.

I'm working on a new interface and possibly combined version of Fullscreen anything and VJToggleToday II. Hopefully this will allow fullscreen anything...

thanks mate!
but what is "fullscreen anything" - i couldnt find it!!!
ed
"Fullscreen anything" isn't a program I've released (for now).
I was asked in another thread if I can make an app like VJToggleToday II but for all apps. I said that I made such an app once, but didn't release it because the OS sometimes doesn't know how to deal with "enlarged" apps.
However, since the code for VJToggleToday is nearly finished, but I now need to put an interface around it, I had the idea to combine it with that old unreleased app, to make a combined version.

Lovely job!
I can't wait!
it'll be very good if it helps me have more screen space for apps like flexmail and pocketinformant! I tried the VGA method but it hurts my eyes to much!!!
Hopefully, and this is theoretical right now because I don't use Pocket Informant, it should work on just about any app. Good thing I wasted so many gazillions of hours writing VJSmallIcons II! Some apps need some "jiggery pokery" (that's a technical expression) to make them fullscreen. However, some apps just don't like to go fullscreen, although the worst that'll happen is you may get some graphical glitches (which is why I didn't release before). I like NewsReader in fullscreen mode, which it doesn't natively offer.

cheers vijay.
I looked at buttonmax but there is no wm5 version yet. Im sure your job will be smaller, slicker & better anyway. (schlurp schlurp, sucking up!!!)

Minimising applications on an XDA EXEC

Is there anyway to minimise a word program so that I could look at the desktop or work on a second program simultaneously
The question is... How do you "NOT" minimize it... In WM, any of them for that matter, the "X" button, which in PCs or Macs closes the app, minimizes it in WM. So yeah. Hope this helped.
but if it minimises there is no icon in the system tray which will enable a quick start of the word document
i guess there is no way to resize applications?
But if you open the program again (eg. If you pressed "X" in Word Mobile with a document open, then re-open Word Mobile, you'd get the app & the doc still open).
I suggest you get yourself a nice taskmanager like SmallMenu Plus (my favourite), Magic Button and a myriad others.
VJOkButt will permit you to minimise/close apps and switch quickly to the Today screen and then back to your active app.
I'll regret bringing this up, but apps can be made to resize:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
V
I use the True Toolbar task manager. It also show you a small icon for each app running. Have a look.
thanks for the replies
i have installed magic button, it looks nice. i think the cross button closes the application, right?
i guess there is no way to resize the applications in magic button?
VJ, what's that vysihaya thing? On your site it says "Not coming soon..."
VJ when can you release an application that allows resided windows... and true windows rather than full sized screens...
and your right. you are going to regret saying and showing that....
will a small donation help?
PS congratulations on your kid.... spewing about your landlord.
Simon, thanks for your wishes - we've just got back from court this morning and I had to fight for an extension not to be kicked out. By the grace of God I've got 4 weeks longer for my idiot landlord to pay off his debts. Sigh, Real Lifeā„¢ can be a pain.
I've not had time to do any coding for weeks because of the baby, the eviction, and the Buzz Unlocker
However, hopefully now I'll have time to get my hands dirty again. I haven't thought about VJSihaya for a while, but I'm slowly getting together thoughts and ideas I want to add. Hopefully later this year I'll get something worth releasing out. Although the windowing system and skinning system, I guess the hard bits, already work well...

Menu software like WA

Hi,
is there some software that does the same with the Startmenu as Wisbar Advance? WA just bogs the device down too much, and I just loved that menu...
I like SmallMenu:

"lightbox_next": "Next",

}

Looks nice, I'll try that, thanks...
Vijay, thx for the Small Menu tip! I too loved the functionality of WisBar Advance, but it was bringing my Cingular 8125 to a crawl, now I have cascading menus at least.
I noticed your screenshot and the Calendar|Contacts softkeys menu bar missing and the larger start bar w/ notifications, and wondered if that was the results of your uber programming skills. So I did a little investigation on the forums, and fournd out that of course it is. I'm guessing that VJToggleToday is still in alpha stage for WM5 judging by your latest post. I will try this out as soon as I get home (forgot my USB sync cable today) but I was wondering if the WM5 version of ToggleToday takes the place of both ToggleNew and ToggleStart for earlier version, and does it work in landscape?
And by the way, thank you for the great utilities you've already developed for the PocketPC, you're very a proficient and talented developer.
zoetrope - hey, thanks for that!
I'm currently on hiatus, Mrs Vijay555 recently popped out the little subversion, and so I'm getting used to his own copious releases.
However, yes, the screenshot is showing a very early screenshot of my PhoneAlarm skin (and custom SideX skin, right hand side, 4 little dots), and the old WM2003 ToggleStart etc.
However, I've just moved the skin over to WM5 yesterday, and VJToggleTodayII alpha is working well on my Mio A701 and other WM5 devices. Yes, it replaces both the old apps.
The functionality of the alpha is pretty much fine, I need to implement tray hiding, but I'm still deciding whether to go for a route to make a bigger, more bells and whistles app, or keep it simple and cleave it into two different apps.
Don't forget, VJToggleToday II can be configured by launching with the "-config" command line.
If you want more one handed usage, I also use VJOkButt to replace the Close Button etc.
