I've just found that Chris @ WisbarAdvance (www.lakeridgesoftware.com) has created a plugin that makes WM5 into ablank desktop on which u can do anything. It's awesome, and seems stable on my JasJar (no alarm failures etc). Some kelw features:
- Different landscape vs portrait themes (so no cut-off images)
- Remove soft buttons on today screen
- shortcuts
- virtual screens and popups of shortcuts
- text meters and graphic meters
Basically anything that any other plugin offers!
Check it out.
Checked on the lakeridge website and couldn't find it- whereabouts is it?
Thanks,
Fin

Look under forums for WAD forum. Works BETTER under WM5 than it did for me under WM2003. WAY BETTER!

it works, but as you begin using it, you'll find out that your Universal will become EXTREMELY slow.
This is a known issue for WM5 and Universal, so a new update has to come out.

Are you referring to the 2.4.1.11 beta or shipping version when you say it is very slow ?
I installed the software but it made my device slower than ever.
I uninstalled it, and my device is OK now.
I'm using GSPocketMagic Ver 1.32.18, it's the only program which does not affect the speed of Jasjar and does all functions I need to close the running programs. It really made using my Jasjar is much better, easier, and faster.

Hi,
-Went to WAD forums, dl'd RC6 and even RC5 beta of WAD, WM5 .Cab...
-dl'd from JJ incidentally
-installed CAB from File Explorer
-Install deemed "successful" after CAB ran.
-Soft reset and the whole 9 yards (ie: double checked today screen settings) and see no aesthetic change to Today Screen's look, and some ambiguous WAD folder in Programs.
Advice much appreciated Dudes.
Thank U!
I'm having problems with this too... I just get a blank desktop and it won't load any of the skins I've downloaded to work with it...
Pah.
lol
haha
you need a full version of wisbar advanced!! then you can add the the WAD plugin ;o) worked fine for me..
only problem is that wisbar advance is not wm5 optimized.. it slows the Universal down!!!
so better leave it.. and wait for optimized wm5 software!!
Don;t agree. JJ is just as fast as it was after hard reset and GPMagic++ - EXCEPT that portrait-landscape change is VERY slow - 8 seconds vs 1.5. That's cos it loads a WHOLE new theme and skin - a penalty I'm happy to live with for all the otehr benefits - cascading menu, awesome desktop capabilities, original task management, awesome skinning, etc etc.
hmm
remove it all and reset your device and notice how much faster the universal is.. even if you just stay in landscape mode.
i removed all sbsh software and also pocketbreeze and my universal is 20 times faster.
if you don't mind the lagg when changing from landscape to portrait ok, but the menu and all other programs do behave slower too.
When i flip my screen to landscape it now changes instantly.. have to say i use checknotifications. ;o)
just hoping for a great update soon, or else i sell my mda pro to someone here in holland for 600 euros and wait for version 2 LOL
I agree, Wisbar Advance does slow down the device. No wonder, all this graphic wealth has to come at a cost: resources!

See what DVL mentions. He's 100% correct. We have to wait for a new BETA to come out or be very patient with your Universal.

These are QVGA skins for Eten.
I think they work with uni also as they r for WM 5 , have u tried them ?
Paulya Phone Skins and HTC Universal
I have tried the skins from paulya.com on a Universal with ROM as below.
They do NOT work. I have attempted to modify the graphics of Pauly's very nice skins for my own use, this is possible and you can make the appearance on the screen appear normal at the corrected pixels per inch size, however, the underlying .dll that controls the layout of the touch screen that comes bundled does not ammend the touch responses correctly (as an example: in portrait mode the graphics for SPEED DIAL, HISTORY and TALK remain horiozontal above the number pad, whereas the .dll expects to find them in a vertical list to the right of the dialpad. If you have the time and the skills there are instructions on several forums (including this one) for editing the relevant dynamic link libraries.
The only skin I have found so far that works (as downloaded, out of the box, so to speak) on this device with its current ROM is O2's XDA Exec skin (or one made for it by a third party) which is attached to this post. This skin however consumes 2mb of storage for a minor change in appearance (transparent in place of solid graphics). I have deleted it.
Incidentally I have paulya's Vista phone skin on my HTC Himalaya. It is beautiful graphic work and makes the device very usable with one hand no pointer required. Thank you very much for all your hard work.
CORRECTION:
Further effort shows that the underlying .dll bundled with paulya's eten skins does amend the touchpad on the screen correctly. (i.e. you get the result you would expect by tapping on the screen, but the graphics will not display correctly even when they are resized to 192 pixels per inch. I would imagine there is only a small effort required to get from here to something that works but I do not know how to do that.

PaulyA.com is no longer. For those of you who are still interested I have moved all my projects to JPL4Designs.com. The old site got robbed while I slept on it.. Mods, if you please update my links on the forums I would greatly appreciate it. Google is picking them off XDA-Dev and others rating the old site high. Thanks so much.

Hi!
Here comes another updated version of StopWatch. This time it's an update to version 2.2, and it is currently available for QVGA, VGA and WVGA screens.
The sleep-bug where the timer and stopwatch slows down when the phone goes into sleep mode has been corrected. Further, I've also included support for MoDaCo's AppToDate application for easy updating.
Info from earlier:
You can use both mp3s and Wav-files as alarm sounds, but it is advisable to use short clips, since there currently is no way to stop a started alarm. (This means that a played song for example wont stop play until either the program is exited or the song is ended.) I am currently working on this.
The program has also been reviewed in its latest version (2.0) by Gadgetmix.com:
http://gadgetmix.com/index/?p=2724
The new versions can be found at:
http://kaldma.se/programs/stopwatch/
Please report problems here!
/ nitramk
Version 2.3
- QVGA-version available
- Small corrections for QVGA screens
Version 2.2
- VGA and WVGA versions available.
- Bug when splitting times in advanced mode with d-pad corrected
- "Sleep mode"-bug corrected
- AppToDate support
Version 2.0
- VGA and WVGA versions available.
- Timer function
- Changeable timer alarm with vibrate alert
- Ability to use the D-pad instead of the screen
- Two ways to display split times, one as in V1 and one with focus on individual lap times as requested.
- The stopwatch and the timer both runs perfectly well when the phone goes to sleep or when you hit the power button to turn the screen off, compared to V1 where it didn't .
Version 1.0.1
- QVGA and VGA versions available.
- That small "closing app"-bug corrected.
Version 1.0:
- Only for VGA-screens!
Files below are of the latest versions!

Looks great, fits very well. Maybe you can release a german version? I´ll help translating.
That would be possible and yes, I would need help with that since my German isn't that great.
First, though, I feel I have to complete the program a little by for example adding a timer function and making some other fixes.

I just posted a blog entry about my experience with RealVGA and 320x320 mode on the Treo Pro. Check it out at: http://nebowiki.blogspot.com/2008/11/treo-pro-320x320-love.html
I am curious about the experience of others?
Screenshots? Anyone?
I will try and put some screenshots together tomorrow. I have been running RealVGA at 96dpi for nearly a month now and have *never* switched back to 128dpi since installing it. The only faults I notice are the lack of icons for SMS messages in the threaded view and the compacted battery icon - neither of which bother me significantly. frankly, I think the rom should run at this reolution as stock - and as soon as we can cook up a rom I will strip out of it all the 128dpi stuff!
John
I'm running it for weeks now, really like it. The fonts may be too small for some, but I certainly appreciate it.
A few weeks on RealVGA for me too. Never need to change from 96dpi back to 128dpi. In fact 96dpi full 320x320 allows me to easily run apps that have problem with 240x240 mode.
Real VGA here as well. The Best. I wont go back.
Could anyone post any piccys of their pros running the 96dpi?
Thanks
Some screenshots
Hi folks,
A couple of screenshots of 96dpi on a Treo Pro just to show you what it looks like. If anyone wants a particular view showing, just ask.
John
Thanks John
I guess i have to be a problem child. its not working so well for me. a lot of things are messed up, images, background, phone dialer, etc. not so great on my end.

Using 96dpi, it's needed to get Olivetree's Biblereader to display icons on the taskbars correctly, along with some of the fonts.
Also needed @ 96dpi for Mobile Shell 2.1 or 2.11 to use the Omnia or Experia themes (found in the square screen themes thread at ppcgeeks.com). They go offscreen otherwise.
Yes, fonts in some places begin to become uncomfortably small. But, in most instances, it's not a problem. However button placement display gets off center with comm manager, especially the data connection on/off setting.
You can of course slide the font size a notch up, that will make most text a bit larger while keeping the 320 resolution. Not perfect, but perhaps for some a better compromise?

I've been running the RealVGa at 96dpi for a week. I've noticed that the icon for the threaded sms is missing. I can only see a "x" at the icon location. Is anyone able to share some view how i can change the icon back to normal?
Also another thing that i notice for is the view of the dialer is a bit shorter than the screen. Therefore, you can see a line of the background when you on the dialer.
Another weird things that i notice when running RealVga is that, when u dialed an unknown number, after the call, a notice will pop up and ask you whether you want to save the no. You will NOT be able to save the no. from there. Have tried that many times and gave up
Have hard reset and use back the original config. Evertthing went back normal. But just TOO BIG. I just wish that the original config will come with an option for us to choose between 128 and 96 dpi. .... 96 dpi still the best view for my treo pro
I use RealVGA with lot of pleasure on my Treo Pro, here
For now, i would like only replace the icon in the threaded sms, like i did for the battery icon. Maybe in the windows folder ...

Works fine on my Pro, except it's very small & my eyes aren't that young, anymore. Because of that, I installed CMKeyboard & a couple of htctoucher's skins from right here on xda.
If you're having issues with RealVGA, are you using the latest version by Ebag333? It can be found here: http://discussion.treocentral.com/showthread.php?t=170002 on TreoCentral. If you're using an earlier version, change to 128dpi before doing anything else, so that you're at "normal" resolution. The newer version uses Mortscript & it's suggested to install after a hard reset.

Hi all,
Anyone can advice which version of the TF3D is running best on the X1 for those portrait and landscape mode that available here?
Many Thanks
I'm wondering to. What are you're xperiances from the different TF3D:s?
I'm getting the performance due to response have been slow down and also it's still not support the landscape mode.
...sorry...
as far as I could understand, the best ones are the the tf3d versions of itje and daran clarke, which are cooked into the rom. The diference between them is that itje's is much more customized, while daran's is close to the original. I personally don't have balls yet to try out the roms using daran's beta2 as a panel from time to time (it is not that fast as the ones cooked into the rom and doesn't have landscape support though).

TF3D from rhodium support landscape mode (included in Itje's Touch-It 4.5 rom)
Itje's version 5.0 of the newest rhodium TF3D is up and running. VERY fast and smoothe. No bugs reported as of yet, so if i were you, I would flash this goodie onto the X1 asap. Enjoyy
I am a big fan of TF3D right from day 1 of my X1. But recently i sifted to Home UI 2 and trust me its very very good. TF3D is resource hungry and slows your x1 a lot. Just try Home UI 2 and see.
yeah, home ui 2 is delicious, but it does not support Russian, thatmakes me sad panda
Manila Good, Home 2 Good
I haven't tried the ROMs - still too chicken to go the full hard SPL and non-stock ROM root at the moment.
I've tried both the main TF3D cabs (daran's and itje's) and I personally prefer itje's:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442154
I've found both of them problematic as a normal today plugin and found that they run better as a panel (search for pubba's TF3D panel.)
As with moleculez, I've recently fallen for Home 2. The initial betas seemed to play up but the latest one I downloaded (v2.0.28e) seemed to be a lot better. There are already a load of applets and themes for Home 2 as well and I particularly like the 5-day forecast that allows you to select cities more easily than the default today applet.
But I digress... so for me its itje's cab that wins the day for me (if you aren't willing to go the whole hog and flash a custom ROM.) Also tried it with the Rodium mods, supplied by xboxmod, which includes landscape but that's only for VGA (not WVGA like the X1) so it screwed up the portrait mode a bit and has caused a couple of other funny bits of behaviour. xboxmod's mods are available here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=493531
Really, I think if you are serious about TF3D then its got to be a custom ROM though.
