I can't seem to get MS Money 2005 syncing with WM 2005. After reading the MS newsgroups it seems Money does not support syncing to WM2005 devices.
Has anyone got this to work or am I wasting my time trying?
Thanks for any advice
i use cash organizar and runs perfectlly

I know how you feel. they need to fix this. soon. I spent hours yesterday trying to make this work.
It's really annoying... WM 2005 is their new flashy OS, but I can't use MS Money on it and I can't use my bluetooth stereo headphones either - both of which I could do on my XDA IIi... hmmmmmmmm
I have been trying to get this working myself since i got my k-jam in October 05. I recently read somewhere that the problem is due to WM5 not supporting the pocket access database that MS use in Money for PPC.
The same article said that there were plans to release a WM5 compatible version of Money for PPC but there were no timeframes mentioned.
I'll see if i can find the article again and post it here. Hopefully if a new version is released it will still sync with Money 2005 and / or other versions or everyone will be forced to upgrade the desktop version of money just to get the PPC version working.

OK, I realize that this won't matter to many of you, but since I searched on here earlier hoping someone would know, maybe I can help someone in the future.
If you use Microsoft Money 2003 and sync it to your handheld, you'll find that once upgraded to Windows Mobile 2003, the installer won't install on the handheld (It expects PPC 2002). To work around this, you need to visit Microsoft's site www.microsoft.com/money and download the 2004 version of pocket pc money. Now it will install on the handheld but won't recognize money on the PC, so you download the older PPC 2002 file (from www.pocketpc.com's download section) and it will create the appropriate entry in ActiveSync.
Just an example of an oddity, perhaps it will help someone else.
I ended up upgrading to PPC money 2004 and then to Money Deluxe 2004 to get it to work properly. Both files can be found for free if you search around. I used eDonkey.
If thats not blatent I dont know what is ... LOL
like record companies... if Microsoft stopped screwing its customers then they might actually buy something?
I'm a little against using software from MS that I havent bought.... means they can still add me as statistic on who uses Microsoft...
80% of desktops run Windows... prolly 25% of that is legit
Pocket money 2004 for WM2003 and for MS Money 2004 is exist.

Even if It was one year ago, problems are always the same. I have upgraded to MicrosoftMoney 2005, an Cash Organizer Money Sync 1.1(the last one) doesn't recognize MM2005 version (it aspects 2004 one) and so I can't install it on my PC and on my Qtek2020. I had upgraded MM2004 version to 2005 one, manteining Cash Organizer Money Sync 1.1 installed. But on Syncronizeing it didn't recognize MM2005 version. Than I tried to uninstall Cash Organizer Money Sync 1.1 and to install it trying to let its see MM2005...but it didn't.How can I create the appropriate entry in ActiveSync so that MM2005 be recognized?

Ehm... ...
I have an XDA II running MS PocketPC version 4.20.0 (2003) Rom version is 1.52.00WWE.
I have reviewed all previous posts on the JVM subject and appreciate the XDA II is new and therefore may not be as many users out there who have tried a JVM yet. Hopefully someone can help me.
I want to run a pJava application that was built using a Standard Java 2 complier for deployment on the pJava environment. That works well on an IPAQ running Jeode. However the IPAQ Jeode does not run on the XDA. I am awaiting a response from Esmertec as to whether they have something suitable. I tried Ewe but that does not work. I can purchase J9 to try but before I do, I wonder has anyone got a JVM to run on XDAII, Windows PPC 2003 sucessfully. The app loads over the air so happy to have some one point at it if they have this configuration (XDAII MS 2003)and a JVM installed and running.
TIA
David
what about the one from sun ?
or is that java1 ?
Update on some progress.
I cannot find as such a JVM on the Sun site in Archive (EOL) that can be installed on PocketPC 200X. If I am missing something please advise.
On IBM site could not get past the login for trial S/W
Ewe did not work.
Creme did run and has my application half working so best so far. Lots of bugs that were not there with Jeode on IPAQ.
Could anyone send me the Sun JVM?
regards
David
Running VMs
I had Ewe running fine on the XDAII last month, this month I switched to Superwaba as it works closer to the way standard J2ME is supposed to. Haven't gotten around to testing custom code on it yet but the samples load without a hitch. The Jeode is certified so runs even smoother and I have heard of people using it on this device, plan to switch to that soon.
. . and oh yeah, the EOL stuff from sun won't get you far, it's ancient.
The IBM packages are great and even were when I tried them 2 yrs ago.
But yes, their downloading process is a pain, I had to pick up half a GB of Websphere Studio Device Developer from their site to get what I needed.
If you're really serious about your work I can send it to you on a CDROM.
http://msmobiles.com/news.php/2209.html
somethings comming which may make it easier
Appreciate the input. Making some progress with Creme, issues with Jeode. Will need to migrate away from pJava going forward but enough progress for the moment. Again appreciate the support.
regards
David
As with so many of the JVMs they say:
We offer Redmond Decaf for hardware manufacturers

which means it's unlikely to appear on Handango as a cheap download.
O2 UK, in their original marketing for the device, said that a JVM would be released with a ROM update in the near future, however they seem to have removed all references to this from their website. Surely there's a legal issue here: promising something to encourage people buy a product and then reneging on the contract. What would happen if they had said "if you buy this product we'll send you £50 in the post in a couple of months' time" and did the same thing.
Word from O2 is Rom versions above 1.6 comes with JVM supporting MIDP but apparently not pJava :-(
I use to have a XDA 2 (well, SPV M1000) and (the important thing) a folder named "My XDA 2 must have". The software I use most, the software to backup, the software to keep not only to try. Like:
1. Sprite Backup
2. Visual IT Rough Guide to London (like A-Z map to central London + extras)
3. Splash ID
and not last
4. TomTom 5 .... and others that I miss already.
And THEN, here it is, I waited so long for it, (Exec) that I decided to switch from Orange, to O2, (Orange don't have this even now). Three days of "testing"...Well the device is great....Windows 5 isn't. (At least for me.)
My folder (My XDA 2 must have) is now "The software that doesn't work on WM5" ...None of the four named programs work...it takes ages to charge, it's slow, everything has changed...and how about that 'program' included "Clear Storage"??!!!
I thought it was something like remove programs, not a bloody HARD RESET!
Everything seems to say about Windows 5.....WHY FIX IT IF IT AIN'T BROKEN??!!!
BTW: Does anybody know a decent Wi-Fi Connections Manager that WORKS?? (Hitchhiker crashes my Exec, Retina Scanner wants to know what my socks size is when registering, Wi-Fi Companion Doesn't Install in WM5.........)
I am glad I didn't sell my SPV M1000 yet....but I want to....I love the Exec, but hate what it does...or rather what it doesn't!
..............helps us all !!!
You seem surprised that a major version upgrade (WM2003 to WM5) comes with occasional problems. Didn't we see the same when we changed from Windows 3.1 to Windows 95?
Later versions of desktop operating systems have some backwards compatibility built in, but with the limited resources of the PPC platform I guess they couldn't achieve everything.
We may not know what they are yet , but I'm sure WM5 has built-in features that drive the platform on another big leap and over time we'll take them for granted. I looked at my XDA2 last night (now two days-worth of dust gathering on it) and was reminded how fast it responded to commands, but it looked dated already compared with my shiny new Exec.
Don't forget, we're early adopters of WM5 and we're always going to have problems. When ROM upgrades are released and developers get new versions out for us, we'll wonder how we ever lived without it!
In case you haven't seen it yet, there's a thread running over at www.tekguru.co.uk listing the software that works perfectly on WM5. I found it useful when looking for replacements for my old WM2003 versions.
I have #2 and #4 working (for #4 you need TT 5.1 - d/l the update from their site)
Reinstall from fresh I reckon. And you are using activesync 4 not 3.8 still?
I agree with SiliconS.. I'm always wanting the very latest of everything (hardware and software) and to be honest, I'm surprised how good windows mobile 5 is!
There are many problems, like icons disappearing and speed etc..but they're not life threatening.
I only hope that the providers are going to keep up with the developers and release their specific patches..if not then I'll have to convert to the Jasjar rom
I love the MDA PRO even with it's problems.
Thanks for the help guys. I'll try these options as well.
BTW, anyone has any problems with the AvantGo software?
Also
#1 Try googling : Sprite Backup v3.2.0 build 2487.
Should be working with JJ.
Best of Luck.

This is real? had you used and work with restores?
Thanks.
From the Sprite Backup developers website:
"Sprite Backup is only compatible with devices using Windows Mobile 2002 and 2003. Windows Mobile 2005 devices cannot use Sprite Backup. We will be releasing a new version that will be compatible with these devices in the near future. Please keep visiting this site for updates."
I did try the version you mentioned but no luck. I use a Exec not a JJ...coud that be it? Thanks anyway...and damn I need a backup program...[/quote]
Here I am after another whole day of reading forums, installing and uninstalling, hard resets, trial and error....and things like that.
As far as the XDA is concerned....I feel better about it now, installed SPB Pocket Plus (works a dream), SPB Finance (great 'cuz it syncs with Quicken), and most of all, swiched to "Corporate" mode...and man, it is FAST now !!!
As mentioned before, Sprite Backup doesn't work, AvantGo works but not as it should, SplashID....nope. I did try eWallet, which works ok on the desktop but not on the XDA.
It's all good fun though.

I'm thinking that I might go for a hard reset and choose Corp, but I don't know how to set up the GPRS details. How did you get GPRS working for Corporate Mode, or haven't you needed to?
I do find the settings for all these connections v.confusing. I just want it simple, like my laptop! One connection does all...
Now that you mentioned that, I wouldn't know if I need different setting yet, as I am still on Orange for the next couple of days until they port my number. Interesting to see if it works though.
I've tried today the GPRS, G3 connection and it worked without changing anything. (In Corporate mode)
I have installed Avantgo on my M5000, but everything is really, really spaced out. If I try and go to options, everything is spaced out so much, I can hardly make out the few bits still visible on the screen, so I can't fix it that way, the only thing I can really do is Cancel back out...
Anyone got any ideas what has happened or how to fix it?
Thanks.
Avantgo is at alpha stage for wm5 so there are lots of issues. You would be better off uninstalling and waiting for development. Check out the Avantgo site for more info.
Cheers
Colin
yeah, that's been my approach
you can sign up with the avantgo help site so that you'll be notified of any developments - see http://avantgo.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/avantgo.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=297
Excellent. Thanks folks.
has anyone tried NewsBreak? (http://www.iliumsoft.com/site/nw/newsbreak.htm)
i've not got my Exec with me today, but from the website, it looks similar to avantgo - it might do as an alternative?

Works perfectly in Magician. Simple, useful and discrete.
Wow, Illiumsoft do some great stuff, don't they? I already have ListPro, probably getting eWallet... and now this?
The thing is, Avantgo is free, where as this is $30 :?
AvantGo update
from the AvantGo website:
"AvantGo is currently Quality Assurance testing for Windows Mobile 5.0 and it has not been "officially" supported because of issues mentioned below. We do hope to have a fully supported version out in early 2006.
If you still wish to use AvantGo software on a Windows Mobile 05 device AvantGo version 5.7.53 or above is required.
Users may encounter the following:
-Previous MS ActiveSync users will have to remove MS Active Sync and AvantGo before installing the MS Active Sync 4.0 for Windows Mobile 05. Otherwise we have seen that the desktop and the device will not communicate.
- Problems syncing with Active Sync: If you experience problems syncing through Active Sync you may initiate an AvantGo synchronization from the AvantGo browser. Click here for instructions.
- VGA display issues: AvantGo optimization for VGA screens are not yet available. All content will be double-sized by the device.
- Options panel layout issues: The browser options panels and AvantGo Connect may not show text or buttons properly for the available screen width."
The WM5 development kit has been out for months and months. Actual devices for at least a couple of months. Maybe if AvantGo and so many other vendors who are completely unprepared for WM5 would have gotten off their a$$es and started develpment earlier, we wouldn't have to wait until "early 2006" for them to support their product properly. WM5 compatibility is not optional
Maybe if we were actually handing money over to Avantgo they would have a reason to do it quicker. As it is we pay nothing. Just relax and wait. It will be worth it.
FYI: Tweaks2K2 .NET version 3.15.0 fixes the Oversize problem in WM2005.
Use feature #75-Double Pixeling deactivation for individual programs in VGA Devices.
Hi all... does anyone know about T-Mobile UK, and if they about to release upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.0?
My current Windows is way too slow, a friend upgraded his same phone with a 6.0 version he found on the net (illegal version I guess) but it looks fantastic, and is way faster than the previous.
Thanks!
I work for TMUK & have checked this (as I have a vario II myself!). There are no plans to release an official WM6 upgrade, the focus is on the new WM6 devices (touch & vario 3).
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!

there is what appears to be a beta tmobile wm6 rom about (you can find links to it in the Hermes Mobile 6 forum), which is very good indeed. Apparently tmo aren't going to release it though, but tmo uk's whole treatment of htc devices seems to be a bit random anyway, so you never know.
I went to the T-mobile store (Uk) and asked about the upgrade. He said should be no problem downloading WM6 from Windows website, and should not worry with warranty as Im already over the 12 month warranty period. Ive been everywhere on Microsoft's website, but cant find any download! (???) Besides would that cause probs as the phone is locked to T-Mobile?
Anyone help here, please. Im not an expert (Im bit fed up to how slow WM5 compared having a 400mhz processor!)
you could either look on here for the htc original hermes rom, the t-mobile test rom, they are both for wm6, infact any rom in the hermes forum works superbly.
Sorry to ask stuipid questions, but what bennifits will i see if i upgrade to WM6 from WM5? My hermes seems to be running pretty well with WM5 but maybe im missing something.
Thanks
There's a whole forum for WM6 ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=355 )discussion and tons of info to cover all of the above. If you want to know about the different ROm's pluses, minuses etc read the stickies. Still, why anyone would want a TMo ROM is beyond me, loads of extra stuff you never use and a dial pad in PINK...
wm6, no real difference
i just thought I would add to this thread and say that there arent any real major differences in windows mobile 5 & 6, the email is the only big advantage in that outlook can display html messages but, in good old microsoft design, you have to upgrade the server side of things (ie, exchange 2003 to exchange 2007).
Mail2web (which i use for push email) only uses exchange 2003 so you still get your emails in plain text.
Microsoft did a good job of dressing up windows mobile 6 as something its not but, having said that the hermes and its software beats sloppy nokia's and sony ericssons hands down!
