I am again unhappy because adobe acrobat 2 reader cannot be installed on jasjar.
the one reader provided on jasjar clearview has very poor functionality (no good word wrapping) and makes it almost impossible to read with ease a pdf document (which are universally used to share infor on the web)...
this is another one of the bad strategy from htc/microsoft...
unhappy client i am wasting my money on a unit which is worse that pda2k (i now use pda2k exclusively and jasjar is gathering dust like paper weight)...
i tried to sell it nobody wants it!
RE
I have Acrobat Reader v2.0 installed on my QTEK 9000 (a ariant of the Universal)
If you've PHM installed just exit the program befor installing Adobe Reader v2.0
I also got Acrobat Reader 2 on my Qtek 9000.. no problem except its huge size :?
But there is a new version of Clearview, now... maybe it could be a bit better :?:
As far as I can see, the latest version of ClearVue PDF on the website is the one that comes with the Exec, i.e. 2.41.387. It may be small but it's hopeless in that it won't open the majority of the PDF files I have. Adobe Reader 2.0 installs no problem for me and so far seems to work with anything. The size isn't too much of an issue since it's on the SD card.

60% of the time when I try to open a pdf doc in Acrobat Reader for PPC it causes the xda II to reset (sometimes this is a hard reset). I like the program as it provides more features/controls compared to clearvue but with all the resets I'm wondering if its worth the hassle.
Has anyone else experienced any problems with it/know of any solutions?
Thanks,

Acrobat Reader
I installed it too...and work fine to my xdall (upgrade: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=17410&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0)
Try to find Adobe Acrobat Reader for PPC version 2.0! Its not on Adobe's site but I found it and its great!!!!!!!!!! Seems like the equivalent of version 6 of PCs for PPCs
Thats the version I'm using!!
Is there a working version of the acrobat reader for windows mobile 5?
My imate Jas-jar came with Clear Vue PDF viewer included. I think it is bundled with WM5 however it does not appear in the programs folder. Try opening a pdf file, and I think you will find it opens in Clear Vue .
ClearVue doesn't seem to open about 75% of my files, which were all created on highest compression... Gotta find a better alternative. I had Picsel on my Palm before that was awesome.
ClearVue is on the companion CD, you need to install it manually.
ClearVue is the most ****ty pdf reader I have tried so far and was the initial reason why I asked for adobe acrobat reader for wm5 in here.
How about adobes own with a VGA hack for force it to high res? this is what i use.
can you be more specific about that vga hack ? Also; iahev tried to install adobes acrobat reader, but had no luck ....
hi
i have working version of acrobat reader, got it from adobe website, here is the link
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2_mobile.html
Try the one for ARM and X-Scale models
Ok Bye
get tweaks2k and use the 'force vga' thing
Hi,
Have a look at a program called Styletap - apparently it allows you to run Palm OS apps on Windows Mobile v5.
I haven't tried it yet, but I used to own a palm with a few progs so I might give it a go.
It might help you run your old Palm reader.

what does that 'force vga' thing actually do ?
You must download free Adobe 2.0 Version in ENGLISH !
That is the only one, work with the Universal.
All other Lang. are not working !
If it freeze during start, tap sometimes on screen,-it will works !
Adobe's version of Acrobat
Got to go with the Adobe version - sure its bloated and takes the usual age to load each time you start it fresh - but it beats clearview hands down

Bloated? It takes a couple of minutes to load for me!
Gimme a PDA version of Foxit, and hurry up 'bout it!
It took 15 secs to load on my Exec. Not great but at least it can actually read PDF documents unlike ClearVue.
Adobe reader for pocketPC v2.0 work well on my o2 mini.
If I can remove some plugin, it could be smaller in installation. Anyone can help which files to remove? Thanks!

Adobe acrobat 1.0-better than 2.0
Hi guys. Of cource i am looking for something better that could open all sorts of books like all of us.I stumbled upon this post and I see your issues.I must admit thet the embeded clearvue Pdf(if I'm right) suks and I never used it.Also I downloaded the Adobe 2.0 when I got my Jasjar, just to realize theat IT HAS 14 MB!!!.A lot .And loading ...and loading...
Anyways,I owned before mj jasjar an Ipaq and had adobe 1.0 on it.So I installed it on my partner(Jasjar) and it works wonderfully for me.
Opens up in seconds and does all that needs to get a book or a document.
I'll try to put it up here someplace. Let's see if I can figure it out.
I found something here as well: http://www.hpcfactor.com/support/cesd/s/0067.asp

Hi,
I've installed Skype and Acrobat Reader v2.0 on my brand-new Qtek 9000 (Italian ROM, v. 1.13.75 ITA). Even though both are supposed to be compatible with WM5.0, none of them happens to work. When I tap on the respective icons, a rotating raibow-disk cursor shows up - as if the application was being loaded - than it disappears and nothing happens. The application doesn't even appear in the list of running programs under Settings/Memory. I've tried unistalling and reinstalling many times, both on the device and on an external storage card, with no results.
Does anybody know how to solve this problem?
Ciao,
RoB
RE
Acrobat Reader v2.0 installed on my SD card works well without problem
both work fine on my SPV @ Qtek 9000
I had the same problem with Skype.....looks like it is starting but then nothing happens That said, it did load up once or twice.......out of loads of attempts !
I had the same problem with the Acrobat Reader newest version.
Finally i uninstalled it.
Problem solved with Skype!
Hi,
the new version of Skype for Qtek 9000 works fine, now! You can download it at he following URL:
http://skype.com/products/skype/pocketpc/download.html?device=qtek_9000
I still have problems with Acrobat Reader for Pocket PC v2.0, though... I wonder how the same program can behave differently on supposedly identical devices. Evidently, the problem depends on some "extra flavours" added by the various brands that commercialise the Qtek 9000. By the way, my device is unlocked, that is it can accommodate any SIM card.
Any advice on registry tweaks that can help solve the problem? Since Acrobat Reader DOES run on other Qtek 9000 devices, it definitely cannot be a serious compatibility issue.
Acrobat Reader works if Pocket Hack Master is not running.
I had the problem with Acrobat Reader 2.0, but it worked in 'Safe Mode' (Part of SBP Pocket Plus). So I set about running various apps to find the conflict, and it works just fine for me if I exit Pocket Hack Master before loading acrobat.
Hope this helps.
I've heard rumours about only the english version of Acrobat Reader is running on WM 5 at the moment.
@riccioberto: I suppose you used the italian version?
Best regards,
tomestos
Acrobat Reader now works but can't be uninstalled!
Hi,
I followed tomestos' advice and downloaded the english version of Acrobat Reader for Pocket PC.
Before installing it, I unistalled the Italian version from the PDA by using ActiveSynch (I used the command for removing the application from both the PC and the PDA).
ActiveSynch DID NOT remove the application actually, but it DID remove it from the list of installed applications on the PDA!
When I tried to install the English version, I was asked if I wanted to uninstall the Italian version before. I replied "yes" but the application could not be uninstalled, so the installation of the new version failed...
But - this is the incredible part of the story - now Acrobat Reader works! It is in English and characters on screen are awful - not exploiting VGA mode, I guess -, but works.
The only problem is that I can't uninstall it in the normal way, so I'll probably have troubles with installing new releases.
Any idea on how to solve this further problem?
Regards,
Roberto
Adobe Reader Issues / Solutions
There are a number of Acrobat issues I am aware of and some solutions. Would love some help with the rest!
I have an Imate JasJar (and previously a PDA2k). These come with an application "ClearVue PDF" which allows you to view PDF files. However it doesn't "reflow" the text to make it easier to read on a small screen and doesn't support ebooks which are encrypted with Adobe's DRM. (Just about any ebook you pay for.) Therefore I prefer Adobe Acrobat Reader which is free. The only downside is the memory used and hassle for installing.
Issue 1 - ClearView PDF
After you install Adobe Acrobat; ClearVue PDF is still the default application for openning PDF files.
I have not found a way to uninstall ClearVue PDF. However as there appears to be no executables under program files then I don't believe you would save any memory. I only wish they didn't waste ROM space but that's outside my control. (I'm not into hacking ROMs.)
The easiest solution is to use a registry editor to delete the key...
PocketPC\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\pdffile
...BEFORE installing Adobe Acrobat Reader. The install then sets up the correct file associations and all is well.
Issue 2 - Acrobat starts and then closes
I have found that if you install Acrobat Reader to a storage card then...
You can launch the application and open a file - works OK.
If you open a file from Explorer (or other tool) then Acrobat appears to start up. It even shows you the reflow warning message. However it then closes! (Making it pretty useless.)
Work-arround - Install to memory. Not great because the Jasjar doesn't really have enough memory for my usage. (Today screen apps really need to be installed in memory in case you need to take out the card.)
Solution??? - Help!
Issue 3 - Activating
I've had lots of hassle activating both the PC version and the PPC version.
Solutions...
a) Install the latest version/update on the PC.
b) Disable any local (PC) firewall.
c) Use an internet connection that doesn't require a proxy server.
After that your on your own...
Anyone else???
Try this tip... it works from a SD card for me on my Universal.
http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=103786
After Unlock EXTRom i deleted all file in EXTR so when i did HardReset i can not fin out this file. i think it is from a file in EXTR, but i dont know. Any one has that experience please let me an advice/ TU
Not exactly sure if I understand your question.. but,.. you can always install the Adobe PPC PDF reader from here:
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readerforppc.html
my experience has been that the adobe PDF reader is easier to read because of the reflow mode. however if you want to print PDF's the cleavue reader is the only way to go (assuming you have westtek JetCet printer software). now i haven't got my JasJar yet, so i don't know if the adobe reader works in VGA mode, or if the PDF reader is easier to use wit the VGA mode; but i've used cleavue/adobe for several years on 320x240 pocketpcs and smartphones.
using clearvue - = crap!
any offers?
try the free adobe reader
it ll read any pdf u throw at it(but takes >7mb)
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readerforppc.html
Never had any problems with this one. Got it installed on SD card rather than internal memory but works just fine.

trying it out now!!!

gotta be better than clearvue - it blows

it's better, but not that great either. very bloated and crashes often. is fast though.
i personally like Ansyr Primer, which is no longer sold. a little slow in rendering, but doesn't crash as often as the adobe and less memory hungry. you can also add annotations and bookmarks. it doesn't do tagged files like the adobe reader, which is one good things going for it.
I don't know why there is so little development in producing good pdf readers.
in any case, using pdfs a lot, i keep them all, and find them useful for different types of documents.
with Primer, you have to apply a vga aware patch, from something like tweaks 2k2, if you have a vga machine. I bought my copy a while ago. if nobody is selling it, i've checked and noted other sources do have it.
PocketXPDF
http://pocketxpdf.sourceforge.net/
I find it the best one.
Renders pages in real VGA.

just for the record - the adobe ppc pdf reader sux.
it lasted 2 hours on my rig.
trying sourceforge jobbie now . . .
Try `foxit' pdf reader which has just released for ppc ,the evaluation purpose .( just reminds it and there no limit of days as i have neen using it for so many number of days) the best or the worst part is that it runs from itself , installs no files on windows folder . it is one single file(1.25 mb) transferred via active sync to the storage card then add to today screen via pocket plus and then through resco explre make it the default program to view pdf files

Use this one all the time.
Putting into full screen landscape allows half of a full page to be easily readable.
Only down side is the delay in waiting for the next page to load - hopefully this will be fixed in a later version
Matt
Hey matt.
you're only bloody right!
this is a good reader guys.
nice rendering, i think a little better than clearvue and certainly the pile of elephant turd that is the adobe reader - that was just embarrassing!

Please please please someone help
thanks

Many Many thanks
Many Many thanks
You are a life saver !
Steve
it takes bloody ages to load initially and the page load times is fairly crap but full screen and programmable h/ware buttons makes it kewl.
as i said before the rendering is pretty wicked too!
WOW!!!! Just installed PocketXPDF and it has got to be the best PPC PDF reader available. Rendering the pages does take a while but at least it is worth the wait.
Thanks for sharing that with us.
Adobe?
I tried my pdf book which has 2700 pages in my JASJAR with Adobe reader,it nicely tagged it for viewing in "reflow mode" (text wraps around to fit the screen) so that we need not scroll it horizontally even after zooming.
Wow! how nicely Adobe did it and I could read the book continously in reflow mode with zoom.I think NO Other pdf reader can do this.Even 'Repligo',I tried same book with Repligo pdf mobilizer, still no reflowing.
Adobe reader is the Best pdf reader without any doubt, but it has its own drawbacks like: Very bulky, freezes ur PPC if not used for sometime(after opening). No official compatibility for WM5 devices.
If the size of the file is small, any reader would do.But bigger files, reflow mode Adobe is jus Gr8!
Acrobat reader has been working great for me for the past two years.
it just depends on the following question:
- do you use a realVGA 'hack'?
if yes:
use acrobat reader
if no:
use pocketXPDF reader
because you really want VGA instead of qVGA. and reflow is a really big plus for acrobat imo

RE
I believe non of the mentioned readers can do the followings completely
a) must have scrolling feature (available in Adobe Reader)
b) text and picture must be sharp (apply to all readers except Adobe)
c) small in size (definitely not for Adobe Reader)
Any?
