thats the cheapest so far ... unless you ask your carrier for the sim unlock code. I know in US your carrier has to give it to you after 3 months of service don't know about UK regulations.

Only here they are alllowed to charge you for it, 20 pounds for orange unlock code but thats not even posssible as the phone is only a month old in the UK I think

aah that sucks ... sorry .. That was a suggestion for op as he didn't want to pay the 50 (wait it out another 2 months ).
UK providers
UK phone providers Orange - will ask for the full value of the contract to unlock it - ie if you have 12 months left at £30 then £360 for the code + unlock fee £20 quidish.
Not sure about T-Mo - but i believe at the end of the contract they will give it for free, but dont say your going to another network, as they'll charge you for the privilidge.
Been there done that... htccode.com appear to be the cheapest at present at £15.
Reviews of service appear to be very positive!

Found this Forum whilst looking for quick way to unlock HTC Touch HD - follwed this recommendation and it's unlocked From sending Paypal payment to getting code took about 5 mins - made contact via MSN and they are really good - if anyone is going to do this, saves asking them the same question as I did - when you enter the unlock code it'll say it's accepted but will then say it's locked again - enter the code once more - that'll do it

What's funny, I bought my HD at Bouygues Telecom in Paris. They claimed it's locked to them. Once I came to the hotel and inserted my SIM card - it worked with no problems. They lied! Actually, I think the same thing was at Fnac. They had two versions of the phone - locked to one of French providers for EUR 589 and unlocked for EUR 699. I guess it was the same phone. I bought my one for 549, flashed to WWE and it works like a charm!
its illegal
In france, its against the law to sell phones that are locked

hello and sorry if i'm posting on the wrong place.
I have the opportunity to buy an locked MDA T-mobile compact V from a friend's friend ... but i dont have to much time because he has already another buyer.
can you guys help me?!
i would like to know at the current time:
it is possible to unlock the phone to use with any company?
it is possible to debrand it? or at least put it a lot like an original HTC?
what isn't possible to undo on this mda compact 5 (appart from the covers... theres no problem for me)
any help would be very apreciated.
Regards and thanks
help nobody?
thanks anyway
Check out the section on unlocking in the rom development section
Peace
yes there are MUCH unlocking possibilitys in the internet
just use google lol xD
MDA Compact 5 unlock
but theyre at 15-20€ about...
well but im rly suprised that your MDA compact 5 is locked
i got one too, buyed from t-mobile (with a contract ofc) it was unlocked since the beginning...
also i knw 4 friends of me- they all buyed a MDA 5 with a contract at t-mobile- ofc their device were also unlocked from the beginning...
so im just wonder ... but well- 15-20€ for unlocking a device shouldnt hurt that much
about the branding-Software:
of cause its possible to remove it- sure
and thats free ^^
debrand -> HSPL
unlock -> HSPL, SIM, Security unlock
all in the topaz rom upgrading section.
Just a question on topic.... Is it risky to buy a MDA V? I mean... That cell is not directly bought by the owner, it's just given from t-mobile within a telephone contract.
Can "owners" sell it? Is this legal? Do they have the property of the cell they are selling? Do they have the right to sell it? Can the MDA V be banned if it turns out that it has been sold?
sure owners can sell a MDA V
its just a phone
same as HTC TD2
just abit "modified" by t-mobile
ofc its legal to sell the phone - if u buyed it in a legal way
No it cant be banned , why should it?
if u buyed the MDA with a contract- and ur selling your MDA (and useing another phone with that contract instead of that MDA) -
T-Mobiles doesnt rly care about it, as long as u paying your contract-Bills ;P
but why should u sell your MDA? its best phone every anyways

That's the point... if you don't pay the bills then what? Should the buyer keep worrying?
There are plenty of MDA V sold on ebay...

may uve get my answer wrong; i mean:
If YOU make a Provider contract with a MDA device
and youre selling your MDA phone- then u still have to pay the contract (simCard useage) monthly to your provider (for example t-mobile)
and t-mobile doesnt care if ure selling your device- as long as the normal contract bills get paid.
u knw- contract bills- a contract in germany at t-mobile for example is a plan for about 24 Months.
a contract contains normally a discount of the MDA phone (for example ur paying only 50€ for the phone) but then youve got a mobilephone simcard with the usage of the providernetworkings- and paying monthly bills; depends on the kind of contract...
------------------
if you mean: Only to buy the phone from t-mobile without any contract (to buy it for the free normal price (atm 399€)) then ofc its another story- cause u only buy a free Phone- and dont make any contract... .
and in that case- of cause you dont have to pay any bills- and of cause t-mobile whouldnt care if ur selling the phone either.
cause its yours anyways... . (thats why you buyed it for 399€ lol)
----------
anyways-> in both cases, the person who buys the phone from YOU (for example on ebay or your friend) , doesnt have to worry anything.
its all okay for him... .
Nope, I meant... What does happen (to the buyer and pda) if the seller sell a MDA V, got with a contract with T-mobile, and after the sale he stops paying the bills before the exipiration of the contract?
I got my MDA V as an upgrade. There is nothing to stop me selling the phone on and continuing to use my old phone. The only thing T-Mobile do, should I stop paying the bill is stop the sim card, the phone will continue to work as they dont block them.
I have HSPL'd my MDA V and its currently running the TESS V2.F rom, but when I power on the phone I still get a T-Mobile startup screen before the TESS rom loads.
So you can HSPL the phone, flash a rom and sim unlock it, but from what I can work out you will still have a T-Mobile boot screen and obviously the T-Mobile branding on front of the phone.
Hi Folks,
I have spent a considerable amount of time before i actually registered searching through hundreds of posts in relation to the unlocking to the HTC HD2 on T-Mobile (UK) everyone appears to give links to various different websites who charge for unlocking, some people appear to contradict what others have said and to be honest it's all very confusing!
I'm due to take delivery of a brand new HTC HD2 this coming Monday and it's locked to T-Mobile, that's doesn't present a problem as such as im on T-Mobile here but i do want to get it unlocked for when i go back to Dublin so i can put my Meteor SIM or any other SIM card in, however in all the times ive had mobiles that have been locked to 1 network ive always managed to get them unlocked usually online but im coming up short this time, my question is - is there anyway i can get this phone unlocked without having to pay to do so, also i recall someone saying you need to get it flashed first before you get it unlocked, can some clarify and any other tips would be appreciated.
Good forum this and quite helpful
flashing has got nothing to do with unlocking.
certain networks unlock for free but some charge dont know about tmobile.o2 recently started to unlock for free.
certain networks dont even lock it just wait and see.
carphone warehouse most of the time they give unbranded phones so its unlocked.
my hd2 says tmobile on box but there's no sign of tmobile customization.
on the other hand my mates phone is on tmobile and its customized .
just wait for it..

Hi guys just a bit of advice needed...
I have a o2 streak, but i want to use it on my other networks, should i wait a while for an unlock solution cos apparently the rebel sim doesnt work??
I just want to check if anyone even knows if unlocking the device is even possible? will we ever have it unlocked? And more to the point is anyone even trying to unlock it?
well, straight from the horses mouth...ie o2 is that they wont unlock a contracted phone for a 12month stint and a bought outright one (3 months) - ive just got mine from a guy that bought his outright (start of june) and got told he cant have a code til the start of sept - im currently going down another route to get the code from "a bloke i know..."
So it really depends on how you bought yours....
I bought a dell streak on ebay, And i am using an o2 payg sim in it, that i have had since dec 2009,i have applied for an unlock code from o2 by filling in there online form,as i have purchased the streak outright ,will i get it unlocked as stated in above thread, thanks.
Pretty slim my friend. If its a contract one youve got no chance - they wont unlock it for a year (i think thats already been said). Ive got a few irons in the fire at the moment, ill let you know what happens with mine once ive got my code (hopefully)

It actually means either
1. get a pay as you go o2 SIM
2. get an o2 compatible SIM
3. Get a rebel SIM
4. Pray for an unlock code
I did 3 and am currently doing a lot of 4 ;-)
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
we have a chance to come out code?
I believe that O2's position with the unlocking of SIM-free and pre-pay Streaks isn't actually legit.
Ofcom's guidelines are that O2 can only refuse to unlock the phone until they've recovered any subsidy offered on the phone - in the case of the SIM-free and and pre-pay versions that amounts to £0 and £30 respectively against the cost direct from Dell.
I would call O2 customer service and ask for the unlock code (they can ask for a reasonable fee for this). If they refuse tell them that you'll be reporting them to Ofcom and open a complaint with Ofcom (http://www.ofcom.org.uk/) if enough people do it I suspect they'll relent and do what they're legally obliged to do.
As far as the contract Streaks are concerned, they are within their rights to refuse to unlock for 12 months, but as they're getting their pound of flesh through contract payments whatever happens to the phone I can't see their justifcation for refusing...
Hope this helps...

Has anyone on here had there dell streak unlocked by O2 i purchased one outright for PAYG i have filled in the unlocking form on O2 web site but have not heard back from them yet,i was thinking of getting the rebel sim to unlock, but i am hoping O2 will unlock it as i am PAYG,i dont mind paying a fee if dell are selling it unlocked on there web site ,why are O2 refusing to unlock for PAYG O2 customers then
O2 will not be unlocking Streaks for the forseeable future, that is fact whether you have filled in a form or spoke to a CSA who says thet they can do it....it will not happen

Hi
I have the dell streak, and am on vodafone UK ,i just received the rebelsim card 2 yesterday and put it in my streak, seems to be working fine with my vodafone sim,i am on a vodafone contract, all i did was put my vodafone sim card in an old nokia ,that does not have 3g,to get signal, and then put it in my streak with rebel sim and vodafone sim card ,seems to be working great, if you buy the rebel sim for the dell streak just now, they are giving you a free case for it,and a free screen protector, and if you enter the code "Rebel" during checkout you get an extra 5 percent off the total price,i paid £14.50 including postage in the uk the free case is quite cheap made, but for free,it will do until i find a better one i was a bit wary about getting the rebel sim at first, but now i am using it with vodafone uk and it works fine,so go for it

This seems all good but do you get 3G using the rebel sim? because if not then it seems utterly pointless to me.

HI
Yes you get 3g but sometimes you can lose signal/service/just put it back to 2g in the streak, and it comes back no problem,i can receive texts and calls no problem give it a try, you have to keep data roaming on as well to get the 3g i think, something to do with the way the rebel sim unlocks the streak
Do you have to put the sim back into a 2G phone and then back in the streak. Or can you just set the Streak to 2G and then back to 3G?
Somehow vodafone 3g can work on Dell Streak with rebel sim. Im on 3 and no 3g with rebel sim. I dont want to stay with O2 so hence the sale of my Dell Streak, waiting for the unlocked one price go lower so I can afford one

Hi all,
Long time joiner on here but left shortly after joining when I joined the "i" bandwagon. I have since got an S3 and now about to order an S4 having come back to the Android world!
So to begin with ....
I know it's difficult to say with a unit not even out yet but based on how the previous samsung's have been, will the S4 be easily unlockable?
My issue is that I am on a good contract with O2 but they're not willing to issue me an S4 without getting onto a 24 month contract even if I pay a fair bit upfront.
So my other option is that I buy a Orange/EE unit on a 12 or 18 month contract, get it unlocked and then stick the O2 sim in there.
And then with the S3, that can take the sim that comes with the new contract as I need to port an old pay as you go secondary number over anyway.
I won't place the order however if we're talking months before unlocking it as it will be pointless getting it without being able to use it
Thanks!

The other option is to buy a phone from phones4u, Im sure all the phones from these companys are sim free and you also receive a pre order pack including a case, sd card and a car charger.
you can also get 12 month contracts on vodafone.
And if you go through quidco or topcashback you can receive cashback for these too.
Let me drop them an email
I did ask dialAphone - theirs is locked but did not think about P4U

thats strange about dialaphone, I thought all their phones were unlocked too. I ordered my htc one X from them and it was unlocked.
Just had a live chat with P4U, have to say, very impressive. No waiting, she was extremely quick to reply each time and clearly UK based
So basically if it is ordered online, it might be unlocked but there is no guarantee it will be for certain.
BUT, if bought in-store, I can request an unlocked unit.
I think this will probably be the way to go

Yep had nothing but positive experiences with both dialaphone and phones4u
Its on unlocked mobile for £529 I'm very tempted, but was in o2 shop today and the guys there reckon it will be under £500 within a couple of weeks to buy locked to o2 so might be worth waiting for a few weeks
With Three it's £15 to unlock and you can do it right away.
Thanks all for the replies
I'm going to take the punt and go for an Orange S4. I get 7 days to return it so if it's locked on Saturday or whenever it arrives, I'll just have to send it back or maybe speak to Orange first to see if they can unlock it with the threat of cancelling the contract if it's not.
And if that happens, it'll just be a case of waiting or maybe going with O2 and the deal they have offered to upgrade which is not a nice one!
