A little idea... - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

Good evening, I just found an interesting thingh... In these days my qtek s100 can't play any .mp3 as ringtone (to all or just to one contact).. After some research i found out that the problem is the program PocketMusic; to resolve it i must DISassociated file .mp3 as predefinite with pocketmusic...
I hope that my experience help someone...

custom ringtone playback volume stuck at max!

I have just upgraded my XDA II to
Rom: 1.60.00WWE
Radio: 1.06.01
Ext Rom: 1.60.21
Since this update all my custome ringtones (.mid) ring at full volume when a call comes in or when i playback from the menu to select a ringtone. However the default ringtones play at the volume level set in ring volume properties.
Can anyone shed any light on this issue for me please...? :?
dunno the answer mate but....
why choose midi tones over wav or wma tones?
its like choosing old beep beep tones over polyphonics lol.
get some propper tones instead of polys lol
thanx for replying...
the midi tune i have very good and i do really want to keep it.
when i didnt get any other posts re my problem i continued to investigate. i have discovered that the problem is somewhere in the dangaard extended_rom. if i use the o2 extended_rom i dont have this problem.
the thing is i dont really want to use the o2 rom and would like to keep my xda as generic as possible, as i am not with o2.
do you know what part of the extended_rom contains the comonents for the ringer? i though it may have been the midi.sa.cab but sadly not. i dont really want to have to go through each one and doing a hard reset each time i want to try the next.
any thoughts?
try installing the o2 rom again and go into the file explorer on activesync and copy everything off the device into a folder on your pc...
install the other rom and then try each one ect... that way you wont have to keep going back and forth through the roms
sorry mate i dont ahve a clue
gaz
this is what i am doing at the moment. i want to keep as much of the qtek rom as possible and only use the o2 rom for the part that it causing for the ring tone to be stuck at max volume.
any guesses which .cab mad have the sound file? i will just try them one at a time. i will post my results for any future user with the same problem.
I'm Curious also....
Let us know what your findings are
Well i have solved the problem. the problem was the camerarc131_WWE_1.5.sa.CAB
i used the o2 camera_WWE.sa.CAB instead and the problem didnt reoccur.
i hope thats the last time i have to hard reset my unit...

Busy Tone not working

When I dial a busy phone the busy sound is silent.
When i played the busy.mid located in the windows directory of my i-mate k-jam it did not produce any sound, also copied it to my pc and it is also silent.
Does any one have the same problem ?
Regards
shafez, yes, I have the same issue with my i-mate K-JAM.
Anyone fixed this issue? Replacment busy tone?
I also have this problem...
Here is the fix.
I wanted to put something similar with what we should all have but I couldn't find  .
I have downloaded the circuitsbusy from http://www.payphone-directory.org/sounds.html so you can start here to look for replacement.
I am currently looking for sound files for spoken digits (0-9) to replace the DTMF tones on the dialpad. So when you are looking for a busy tone replacement and you come acros of spoken digits please let me know.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The file will modify your registry and will copy circuitsbusy.wav in your \Windows directory.
Registry Keys are:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds\BusyTone]
"Sound"="busy.mid"
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\InCall]
"DefaultSound"="dpadctl.mid"
"busy.mid" & "dpadctl.mid" values will be replaced with "circuitsbusy.wav"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I did not test it with mp3, but I believe it should work. Please let me know if it is working for you.
Found a solution that sticks to the original busy tone:
Copy the attached file to the windows directory on your Wizard. Then go to Wizard's registry: HKCU/ControlPanel/Sounds/BusyTone. Then change within the key "Sound" the "HTCbusy.wav" to "HTCbusy1.wav" and do a reset.
What I did was tat I simply encrease the volume of the original file on my pc. Now the busytone works like a charm.
Enjoy!
*deleted* Sorry, wrong thread.

Message sounds?

My first post in this incredible forum, I have all ready found so much help here and are most thankful, please keep it up.
Is it possible to make your own message sounds and use them when recieving text messages etc.
If possible at all what format should the file be in (mp3 wav)?
Tried with an mp3 placed in the windows folder it seems it cant find it.
Any help would be appreciated.
I'm not an expert so hopefully one will reply, but I think they have to be .wav and I think they have to go in the \windows\rings folder.
cheers

Actually, you are 1/2 right, they need to be wavs, but they go directly into windows, not in the rings folder.
Steve
Yep steve is correct the sound file will need to be a .wav and place into the windows folder, ring tones can be mid,wav and so on and they are placed into the rings folder within windows.
Sound file converter???

You might try Audacity http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/
It's a free download. I use Sound Editor in Roxio's Media Creator 8 -- one of the MANY useful tools in that program.

YW -- (but I'm a GAL -- not a guy)!! LOL!! But, that's ok -- none of my friends can believe how "techy" I am, either. But, I'm the first one they come running to with a problem. Go Figger!!
Cheers all,
You keep refering to ring sounds, I am looking for Sounds for alarms and recieved messages, and alerts in general.
But I will try it now with wav files in stead of mp3.
Manindesert,
I'm using Sound Forge 7, but then again I really need it for all my music stuff, so give Audacity a shot.
Update Works fine with alarm and message sounds, thank you all.
Is there any way, hack or otherwise, that will allow you to point your rings/sounds to your SD card? Thought it would be nice to free some space and stop having to move files on and off the card. I change my ring tone with my mood
Javahater,
I've been loking for a hack/program/setting that will do that, but no luck so far.
Unfortunately, all SMS & ring tones must be located in main memory!
But there's a possibility to create a program that will browse a folder of ring tones on SD card & once u select a tone, it will be copied to main memory (and of course erase the old default tone from main memory) & will set this new file as the default ring tone for the phone.
Javahater and Ezzkht,
Maybe you should look here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Wizard_Tweaks scroll down to this "ANY FOLDER RING TONES"
You will need a Registry Editor like Total Commander 2 or PHM Regedit
Hope this helps
Javahater,
Have been trying above solution for about an hour, seems that this solution doesn't work under WM5, or at least it doesn't make any difference if you change the folder or not (it only points to windows not windows\rings)
Will have to keep looking.

AGREED !! I've got WM2003SE tried the steps mentioned http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Wizard_Tweaks no use.......it still picks up the default folder from \windows\rings, where as I am pointing it towards \Storage Card\Sound\ not working
ok just double checked.....in sounds and notifications options it goes to \windows\rings folder.....but I have o2 plus installed as well...and in o2 plus sounds and notifications options it points me to \Storage Card\Sound any ideas ?
Ezzkht,
Happy t worked for you, can't say the same for me.
Well it is getting more and more weird, when I look in my registry it only points to \windows\ not even \windows\rings\, despite this it still manages to pick up ringtones/sounds in the rings directory, and all sound files placed in the root of the SD Card(go figure).
I'm out of ideas right now, but am still looking for a solution and will be back if I find one.
I just used Resco Explorer with the registry editor add-in.
It worked with me without a soft-reset!
What device do you have, Mike?
Maybe some nice sounds
Hello everyone!
It's a little bit off topic, a little bit not
My advice: SD card is not really a good place for sounds, at least in my case. Why? Sometimes it happened that when I got a phone call, instead of my nice ringtone I've heard the standard one. I think it has sth to do with powering up SD card while changing from standby mode. It's just my impression.
Secondly: I'm looking for some nice SMS ringtones, not the funky ones... I'm getting a lot of messages and it's really boring if you hear "Heeeeellooooo! Your message is coooooomingggg!" every now and then. I will appreciate if you could share your ringtone with me

My iMate Jam won't ring

Hopefully someone can help me please. When I receive a phonecall, the phone no longer rings. If I put it to vibrate, that works OK. I have gone into the phone settings and played the ringtone so that's OK and the MP3 player functionallity is also working OK. When on a call everything is perfect. Even if I have the earpiece in, it still won't ring but again the earpiece is perfect while on a call. It would appear that something software wise has become screwed but I don't want to have to do a Hard Reset
I also use my PDA for Destinator v6 for GPS and mapping. It happily gives me my vocal directions.
I should also say that this has only just started happening in the last week or two. I did have to re-install my Destinator because it lost it's voice.
Can anyone help - PLEASE

Did you install a new rom? Hapened yesterday to me when I installed T-Mobile rom on my SPV M500
No. I running the same one for the past 6 months. Anyone else got any idea please/
Cormac
Hey Raven2000
Have you fixed the problem yet?
Cormac
I had a similar problem yesterday as well. I couldn't play any of my ringtones other than the windows default. (Try to see if the windows default ringtone works). My problem as far as I was concerned started after I installed xPad 2.1. Even after I deleted the program it would not work. I finally resorted to restoring from a backup which sorted it out. (I must start to schedule using xbackup on a weekly basis) Hope this helps.
I've had this exact same problem with my Magician - I bought mine as a T-Mobile MDA Compact, and am now running the BigStorage ROM. I have tested this in the past - running it as a "clean" system (no other apps at all installed, factory-shipped ROM) and it seems to work fine - but when you start installing software, the ringing function on the phone seems to stop working - and the only ringtone that still works is the annoyingly crappy "Windows Default" piano-tune ringtone. If anyone manages to work out why this is happening and a way to fix it, I would be most grateful! I am still working on a solution myself.
I'm now running ver 1.12 from iMate's website and have the ringing back again. I am tentitive about loading up too many programs so keeping it to a minimum for the moment.
As a matter of interest, did you ever load up an alarm clock program? I have re-installed most of what I had previously so I am wondering about this since it would be one of the only ones which would mess with the sound
C
Correction to my previous post. After installing one program at a time, I found it wasn't xPad but another program called iMusic.
Have You installed a media player?
this happened once to me when installed a media player that got associated with the WAV and MP3 extensions so the default internal player stopped working.
Hope this helps.
As soon as I removed file association for the new program my JAM started ringing again!
So did you have to edit the registry or was there some other way to remove the erronious association ?
Cormac
MP3 File Association
That happened to me too. Are you using MP3 patch so you can use MP3 as a ringtone? If so when you install a program that deals with MP3 it might change MP3 association to that program. Try re-setting MP3 association to File Manager and problem is solved.

No Midi ringtones?

I may have missed something in an FAQ or on the Wiki, but I've been reading and absorbing info for the past 3 days (there's a ton to learn).
I could swear I had midi ringtones working on my 8125 (Wizard), but cannot get them to work on my 8500 (Hermes)....
Is there some trick to this? (my midi versions are much smaller than the mp3/wave equivalents)...
Thanks,
Mike
I found an answer here that seems to work...
http://buzzdev.net/index.php?option=com_phorum&Itemid=125&phorum_query=read,26,11644,23774
Installing the 2 cabs in the linked rar file fixed my problem. I can now play midi's as ringtones.
Now to figure out exactly what this stuff is doing...
Mike
Thanks - have the same problem - midi files weren't working, and that rar with 2 cabs helped me as well on my BlueAngel =)
