Add to startup but hide in background - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Just wondering if its possible to add a program to the startup so after soft reset its running automatically but its in the background ( so today screen comes up instead of applications opening screen).
I've got the program to do this currently by copying the .exe to the startup folder in windows - this gets the program running immediately from reset but its screen comes up before the today screen and i'd rather have it running in the background. Also is there any way to remove it from the running programs list?
I'm now using an xda2i:
ROM 1.11.00 WWE
ExtROM 1.11.162 WWE
Thanks and hope you've had a good xmas

These things you wanna remove are installed everythime you hard reset. THey are programs in the extended ROM. These are customizations to WM5 that the retailer (imate, o2,qtek, t-mobile) put on the device.
If you don't want to install any of these do the following:
1. Hard Reset Device.
2. you'll go thru a series of screens:
2.1 Welcome Message
2.2 Align Screen
2.3 Tap and Hold tutorial
2.4 Password Configuration
2.5 Ending Screen that asks you to press screen to continue.
3. RIGHT AFTER step 2.5 (after you tap the screen) press the RESET hole.
This will bypass installing all the files in extended ROM which normally shown by a progress bar at the bottom everytime you do a normal hard reset.
4. Now you can Install the stuff in the extended ROM one at a time. Only the ones you need to install. To access the ExtendedROM (it is hidden) download Total Commander (search thru google) and type \EXTENDED_ROM in the navigation window and it will display the contents of the extended ROM.
I don't have O2 so i cannot explain to you what each individual .CAB file does. Just use a little guess work. THe O2Active, i believe is easily spotted. It's the biggest CAB file. Don't click on it so it won't install.
Tell me if this helped you out or if you need more clarifications.
Hola Jorge
First of all - Thanks for the great explanation !!
Although I do want most of the stuff, i already tried corporate mode (clean install) but I missed a lot of things.
therefor I installed Basic mode. (which hasnt got ALL the features)
But - some of the features i DO want to take away.
(NOT FROM EXT ROM)
only for now... programs in the Start>Program>
Lets say I wanna take the games away...
where are all the programs installed TO ??
I found some of them. but when I deleted the email setup for instance -
I still have an empty Email Icon in START>PROGRAMS>
(again i remind U - I wanna leave the ext rom as it is)
10x again !!
Some features in the ExtROM are installed in Corporate mode too, the sure way to customize is to bypass ExtROM, then install one-by-one the .CAB files you want.
Anyway regarding the Games, etc. they are part of the OS so cannot be uninstalled unless they came with the extended ROM like Backgammon that came with the JASJAR ExtROM.
To delete the ICON that is blank but still has text, go to \WINDOWS\START MENU\PROGRAMS\GAMES
You'll find the shortcut there. Or just to \WINDOWS\START MENU to see all the oter shortcuts in case you wanna remove other stuff.
The games are installed in WINDOWS and a shortcut is created to the Star Menu Directory. Just delete the shortcut.
What does "10x again !!" mean?

Stop Progs from EXtRom to install

Hi
I am a newbie to tweaking PDAs and I am expecting a new P3300 from expansys... question is how do I stop unwanted programs from ExtRom to install?
Thank you
My guess is you can't stop them from being installed in original ROM cause that's how it's built. But unofficial, custom ROM builds tend to modify ExtROM.
What can be done is accessing of ExtROM and removing programs from there, but I haven't read much on this subject. Check this for example http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=285519
I am not sure if it is what you want. To stop all the crap from network provider from installing after hard reset I used to soft reset the device as soon as it finishes startup. There is a message for about 2-3 sec that customization is going to install. I then press the reset button and have clean OS (except some small customizations like internet settings and some icons).
one other way to do it which worked for me. i installed Total Commander CE then in the command line I typed \Extended_ROM and it showed the contents of my ExtROM. i deleted all files from there, did a hard reset, and of course nothing was installed from extROM.
unfortunately, some unneccessary programs are in the ROM, not extROM. and there's just no way to delete them, but to create custom ROM....
hi dim4x4 and Adigital
thanks for replying, what I actually intend to do is stop installation of crap software when hard resetting (like clearvue pdf viewer)that are built in to the extended ROM. I just want to install those ones that are necessary to run the machine. I will be getting the HTC p3300.
In my case ClearView is in the ROM, not ExtROM. Try Dopod custom ROMs, they have Adobe Reader LE instead of ClearView.

Click to collapse
I rarely use Acrobat - infact never - is it possible to remove this from the ROM? can save 2MB space !!!

Startup entries

After upgrading to the new official 6.1 ROM, I have noticed that in my startup there is a program called WLMupdate.ink, what does this program do? Would it be ok if i turned it off startup? Also do poutlook.ink and pocketnotify.ink need to start with the phone? I am trying to save as much RAM as possible.

[Closed] -How to recreate the shortcuts in the Windows Start Button - HTC Sense

Hi
The background is as follows..
a) Settings button goes unresponsive in start folder
a) I deleted the settings button by going thru File explorer to Windows/Start Menu. I was left with the Windows/Start Menu/Programs folder
b) On restart/soft reset/reboots the Start button will only show The Today Icon Shortcut. All other icons have disappeared
How do I recreate the complete shortcut icons to be seen when you press the Start button. Will appreciate this advice
Kind Regards

Sounds like you have to do a hard reset...
Don't hard reset - just search the forum. I've seen this problem posted before and I'm pretty sure they fixed it, but I don't know how.
Keep searching, or maybe someone will be able to shed some light in this thread, but I'm 99% sure they didn't need to do a hard reset.
Finally did a hard reset. Luckily had a back up of all programs on my pc. Few hours and some great lessons.. Thanks to all for the patience

[Q] HTC Sense will Not Load

I've had the same problem now over a number (4 to be precise) of HD2's and it concerns the issue of Sense being unable to load causing me to have to HR and reinstall all my software and licence keys etc, its a right pain in the arse
I'd rather not change ROm's party because I'm a alittle confused by the options available
On of the items of software I THOUGHT might be the issue is CHT. I've used 1.8.5 and reverted back to 1.8 but it still happens
today it has done it again just 2 days after the last crash andI'm wondering if anyone has any ideas, such as could it be as a result of rebooting whilst connected to PC?
Most of my installed software is in the device.
All I'm looking for is a little stability
Any help would be gratefully received

Help Please!
Hi
This usually happens due a software/application you have installed. The trouble is, you cant tell which one it is.However, with my experience, im quite sure its always linked to a tweak application and not an application on its own.Only suggestion I can give is probably to install each system tweak cab seperatley and do soft reset after installing each one. This way, you may be able to tell which tweak is affecting Sense from starting.
Hope this helps.......
actually alot of sense freezes/ crashes are due to a faulty sd card. I would move everything of importance off the card and format it. Or, you can put it into a card reader and have windows do a scan and repair on it.
Also you can delete the application folder off your sd card, soft reset and try it. Sometimes that folder can cause problems (probably linked to bad sectors on the card that the folder was on).
