I may be completely off my rocker here but is there a way to use the Bluetooth or IR on my wizard to control lets say... windows media player on my computer? Or change channels on a tv?
Are there any programs out there that are written for this kind of application? Thanks for the help in advance.
I have an old PDA iPAQ with no phone capability but it had an app
called NEVO which controlled anything IR like TVs and DVD players
but I've not seen anything yet on an xda.
I'll keep my eyes open.
Call for Wizard IR Remote software!
You might be thinking of NoviiRemote from Novii http://novii.tv
So far their product does not support the Wizard despite repeated attempts (from multiple wizard owners) to get an idea of when it will... they keep saying "they're working on it" but have been saying that since Oct. 2005.
FWIW, I've tested the following competing "universal remote" applications and couldn't get any to work on the Wizard:
- Vivo Remote
- Universal RemoteCE
- UltraMote
- Total Remote (locked the Wizard... had to remove battery)
- Remote Control II (big time failure, couldn't find images)
- TV remote controller (says no Wizard support on homepage)
- NoviiRemote =(
Each were installed to Storage Card (1 at a time). All of them didn't seem find the IR hardware, with error codes varying from non-existent to not even running / crashing. Nearly all the apps would not uninstall cleanly (running WM5 v1.6.8 WWE) had to manually remove.
Clearly there is an opportunity for someone here... there is no competition on Wizards, all this someone has to do is support the OMAP hardware and Wizard users will come running.
Any takers? =)
No he's thinking of NEVO (http://www.mynevo.com/), I too have NEVO bundled on my HP IPaq RX3715 and it's a very slick program, it used to be that you could only get it bundled but I believe they're starting to sell it as a stand alone product now.
The problem with this remote software is that to use it effectively you have to make sure that the IR type built into your device is cIR rather than the more common sIR etc as they have pretty drastic differences in their ranges. So you can get software but if you have sIR then you'll need to be on top of the TV to change the channel.

there is a beta version of novii remote that works on the wizard, its available in there forum.
range is over 2 meters which isn't too bad. i'll post a link if I can find it

edit: heres the link http://www.novii.tv/up/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2667
Yes Novii does indeed work but dont expect the same kind of response as an ipaq. They are fitted with commercial grade ir which works more like a normal remote. The wizard ir has to be lined up directly with the ir receiver.
Its much quicker to get up and change the channel
true but it is fun to turn the sound up on tv's on display in shop windows or inside stores

Do you use this software to control your pc for functions like play and pause your windows media player or winamp? thanks
I found something here... i dont know how well it works...

I know Salling Clicker works great on my Treo. Have not purchased it for Windows Mobile 5 yet. Still I would give it a try. Via bluetooth it controls your medai player, itunes, power point and lets your PDA function as track pad.

I've been lookng for something similar too. Here's the ultimate program for just that. I've used it before for my Palm 650 and didn't realize they made it for PPC as well.
I've just made buttons for WMP and it works like a charm. Connects through IR, Serial port, or WIFI so there's no distance problem. Pebbles program lets you control your computer or programs running on your computer. Try it out, its free and probably one of the best programs that you can configure everything on your own!

As wilesd mentioned, there is a free version, you just have to hunt for it. I use LogMeIn remote, and paid $1000 for 25 clients, but that's less than half the price of the best price I was quoted for GoToMyPC for an equivalent set of user licenses. GoToMyPC is the only other GUI software I found that works, but the WM5 version of LogMeIn is faster than GoToMyPC.
You could easily control WMP or winamp remotely, although logging in to do so will take a few minutes. I'm not sure if this is a solution that would work for you, as it is an IP-based solution... not exactly the kind of 'remote' in which you seem interested.
remoteamp
i use remoteamp, its a nice prog and it controlls Winamp and Media player via Wifi. and you can see al the files on you PDA for scrolling and so.
good app.
Hello,
I've try many (ALL !!!) remote control apps on my HTC P3600, and I did not arrive has to make them function.
I've have actived parameters ---> connexions ----> send (receive entering data)
TV remote controller ----> BUG
Remote central II ----> no signal work (but great app)
I've try netremote --- > too complex
Vito Remote ----> no fullscreen, no beautifful layouts..
I search a good app with CCF support and Fullscreen Support..or just app working on my Trinity...
Can u help me to make Remote central working on Trinity (Infrared port is detected !)
What Remote control app do u Use ???
There are not many remote software on the market but i can tell ya, vito remote is still on of the best. I use it for my xbox too
there is one
why dont you try novii remote controll it is working good not far distances but is working!!! i tried it on my SPV M700 Wm6 Custom and it work's check this out http://www.novii.tv/pocketpc/deluxe/
remote control
Thanks for you help. i go to try noviiremote.
Anyone have succes working with HTC P3600 and RemoteControl II, v2.12 ??
http://www.wincesoft.de/html/remotecontrol_ii.html
.... Novii don't work for me
hi castravete,
I've try Novii remote (last version) on my Trinity , but no way to get working...
This app run, but my tv don't receive signal...
I think is my Rom (French 2.4.1 rom by FAMAN).
Can other people test this app or other and tell me if is my rom ?
thx for all ;-)
it has a range of like 1m though... fairly useless imo
i've gotten up to 2m range with various htc devices
but the real tricky part is that not being a consumer ir
you have to aim
pointing in the general direction is a no go
Gimmic
Yeah if they could work at a greater distance then that would be good, The only thing I've found them good for is annoying the Currys, Comet and PC world assistants.
'Can I help you sir?'
Yeah is your TV compatible with my PDA?
'Sorry Sir'
Oh it appears it is *taps on Trin screen*
Oh, dvd player as well!
Shocked look from the assistant
I am having issues with Novii on my trinity. It is annoying with these codes, I am wondering if there is a better application for remotes.
the range is too limted, cant remember the one 1 tried (sorry) but it was about 1.5 away from tv
I think it's cause : most of this ROM nowaday is disabled or can't control IR via Commanager (i mean ROM for P3600 nearest...).
So, someone try downgrade ver ROM and test again all this stuff???
So please, someone make it for all.
sorry for my worst english...

Brilliant.

Must try that some time.
Hello, I have got two PDA, HP HX4700 and HTC P3600. Novii remote with the HP 4700 has a range of 15mt the P3600 only 1 mt. The internal codes of noviremote works fine with the HP HX4700 but doesn't works with P3600. The only way to use noviremote with P3600 is use the learning mode for every device, I don't know why.
remote control
I use to have a samsung IP 830 from sprint that phone had an amazing remote control application it would be great if someone could hack it like they did with other apps from samsung devices
guys, I would like to remind you that IR Range is a function of your device not the remote control app. IR comm was only mainly developed for device to device communication at close range.
ie iPAQ h2200 IR range is about 6 inches
iPAQ rx3715 IR range is about 10+ FEET
Anyone been able to fine a remote control app for the 6800? Just something that (preferably) uses IR and can control my laptop with Vista MCE installed? I tried many different remote control apps and haven't got 1 to work, none of them so far are compatible.
IR is almost useless unless you're very close to the device... so close, in fact, that it would be easier to actually use the device you're trying to control.
There are many apps that can be used over bluetooth or over IP (which are both far better than IR).
There was an article I read about this once from Pocket PC mag which went into detail on this subject, and lists all the options. I don't have the exact address, but if you look around you should find it.
Dishe said:

Really, have they lowered the IR power in recent devices? I used to run a remote control app in my e330 Toshiba Pocket PC and it worked better than the real remote I had. Even worked from a room away... I'd change the channel and my roomates wouldn't know what was hitting them... since they were sitting on the couch with the remote .

The ir in my treo 600 only worked from 3 feet away. That was a waste of time. Haven't even thought about rc programs since. Like Dishe said, if you're that close, you might as well just use the buttons on the front of the device; or use the original remote.
i've been looking for a remote control ir program that can control tv, dvd player, etc. with a 6800. but no luck yet, anybody know of one?
Buy a Universal Remote
remote
i too have been looking for a program i could use as a remote control, i had novii on my 6700 and it worked great (fun messing with the guys at the fire station) but i haven't been able to get anything to work on the 6800!
im interested in this too.... hmmm keep me posted
I think I found the software you were looking for while browsing a different forum.
Its call NoviiRemote
http://www.novii.tv/pocketpc/deluxe/
Quoting the user guide:
NoviiRemote Deluxe turns your Pocket PC into a Universal Learning Remote Control!
You can control all of your home entertainment equipment with one easy-to-use program.
Search for it at mobilecastle.biz
novi remote doesnt work for the 6800. well not for me. But i havent tried the deux version. But it gave me an error about ir not being present or something.
has anyone tried this software?
http://www.pocketgear.com/en_US/html/display_product.jsp?id=prod5670730
I just haven't had much time to play with it
Noviremote works real well if you have the sd card antenna
Otherwise it's a waste of time. Now if Moviremote could come up with a new MICRO SD card slotted antenna...
Indeed,
Novi Doesn't Work, Neither Does Vito Remote
it says "Device has unsupported processor: MSM7500-400Mhz"
so i rly think theres something different about the 6800/mogul's IR that the programs are not yet compatible with :-(
Theres another program ive tried on the 6800 as-well, that didn't work....
though the name of the prgram escapes me @ the time.
try NetRemote.. Haven't tried it yet on my 6800, but worked like a champ on my Axim x51v
I've tried VNC, Niveus PocketRemote, novi, PPC Tablet, none of them run or run well.
i'm going to try rudeo tonight
haven't tried highpad Media Control
Found one maybe
I was able to install this on my Titan and it seems to work but have not yet seen it work since I can't find my tv codes - but at least it seems like it might work. It does not "learn" codes from other remotes unfortunately (unless I missed something) but if you can determine the code for your TV it just might work.
Please let me know if you can get this to actually control a device from your Titan
Thanks for this! This is the one thing I miss from my Palm days. heck when the dog ate my $100 remote I was able to go to a store, learn all of the custom codes for my Home Theater and have all of it workin again. Univiersal remotes never to stuff like allow you to change CDs in a 3cd player and other stuff like that even if you try all of the pre-programed choices for that vender...
Please keep us up to date with your findings. I'm gonna try that Nevo cab.

I have transfered files from my Titan to another Titan from up to six feet away so the IR is not really that weak, from what I have read at another thread is the IR on the Titan the uses a different technology, so honestly it doesn't looks good I spend a good time researching on this and another forums with no luck.
Hi Everyone
i have tryed my best searching on xda fourm's but no luck

try noviiremote... i read somewhere that the company that made it shutdown and now you can find the software many places along with the required stuff to register it. in my opinion its still the best out there.
Novii
Novii Remote still excists and is coming up with a newer version. I just was a few days ago on there site and took about 600 code bases (free) from their site to program on my PPC. The software is not free but look around and you will find. It is also one of the best remote controllers. By the Way the new version that will come soon is Novii Remote Lite. But i will post de link also.
Good luck

On a lot of WM devices, you have to uncheck the "Receive all incoming beams" on the Settings/Beam screen? Try that? On some others the IrDA port is shared with another function and you may have to disable that function temporarily e.g. WiFi.
Also if this "free" software is a version of NoviiRemote, then there is a setting on the program for choosing the infrared port. I have found that using the AutoDetect did not work on some of my devices. Manually try each of the port settings. If this version is special to the device for which it was free, then there may be no setting function provided i.e. it is set to the port for that specific device and it is different port number to your HTC 6800.

A small up
Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone had found a soft working on WM devices (I don't know if mine has an IR, it's an HTC Touch Pro 2), and free of charge, of course
And, as the initial author says, I'm in the same case as him, I haven't really $30 to spend...
From what ive gathered/read these are just about useless as you have to be like no more than a foot or two away from the tv for them to work. the infared port is not near as strong as a regular tv remote

This is not a universal truth. The power of the IR transmitter built into the device is the deciding factor. I had kept two HP Jornada's going since they had a very powerful signal and could successfully work all devices, even by bouncing off walls of the room. This was somewhat special.
I currently have two FS Loox N560s (WM6.1 but no longer made) which also work well, but the beam is not as powerful or focused as the Jornada. But both FS and HP devices can operate all my equipment (using either NoviiRemote or PDAWin, I believe that both still available but paid for!) at 10-15 feet.
The biggest problem is that the new generation of WM devices just don't have IR ports any more. This seems to be because the demand has not been great from consumers, but also the devices are packed to roof with GPS, phone functionality, cameras etc. So something has had to be left out! Shame. I am stuck with old technology partly because it provides universal remote control capability!
Ah those new technologies...
OK, thanks.
Actually, that's what I expected... When you think all the things our new mobiles can do, you think they can do everything (I still expect the new feature that will feed me and be able to bring me some fresh beer when I need it !), thanks ooxteme.
That's a shame but, as you said, fingerstoo, when you put more and more things ON them, you can think they get rid of some of them.
But it's not really that important isn't it ?
Thanks anyway to both of you for these answers.
In my HP ipaq 6815 works fine, thanx
Thanks!!!!

I had one BenQ P50 WM2003 PPC which had a universal remote control application factory installed and had a very powerful irda port by which i could control devices even from the reflection of wall/celieng etc. I had copied the entire folder from the Cdrive where a file
nameled recon.exe along with some associated files were there I shall try to upload the entire folder in rar format. once I get it! It should be safe somewhere inside a hard disc but I'm unable to recall where did i store it as I've suffered from a severe BP Stroke on july 16th last year! I am still searching for it in all my harddiscs. it is worth mentioning that, Novii remote also worked fine with my BenQP50 despite the factory installed software being there and. after copying the entire folder to a HTC PPC running in WM5 with IRDA port worked fine though I do not remember the model number.

Have you tested this on a Gen1 XBOX with XBMC (ex: XBMC-SVN_2010-08-31_rev30587-T3CH) with a large audio library?
Keep us posted on the developments of this ... awesome find!
Been looking for an XBMC Remote for quite some time which would allow full control of XBMC without having to be in front of a screen. The Web GUI is fine but lacks much functionality - primarily because no one has really put time into improving it.

I think GRemote Pro has XBMC support. The free version might have it too, not sure. It also works with VLC, WMP, WinAmp, Boxee, and more. The GUI has options for gyroscopic mouse control, trackpad control, keyboard control, number-pad control, media remote control, joypad control etc. The Pro version isn't freeware, and the GUI is different, but it's a sweet app. Connects over WiFi or BlueTooth. There's a client that goes on your WM or Android phone, and a server that gets run on your home computer. Hope the info helps.
