Wireless SD Cards and Chipsets... - Networking

Quiz question. I've been doing some research into SDIO wifi cards for WM2005 and my SPV M1000.
What i want to know is, What chipset do Socket SD WLAN cards use? Is it per-chance: "Inprocomm"
Reason i ask is, i've ordered a SAFECOM SD wifi card, which ive heard doesn't have drivers for WM2005, however, it use the above chipset.
Alternativley, does anyone have drivers for this model card, or a way to make it work?
Cheers,
Tim

Ambicom SDIO Wifi Card

I've been reading a lot about the Sandisk wifi card being unreliable with the XDA II, and on my hunt for a wifi card i've come across this from
Ambicom:http://www.ambicom.com/products/wave2net/wl11-sd.html
Has anybody had any experiences with it, good or bad, as it seems like a reasonable card as it's priced at just over £40.#
Thanks
as described here many of the sdio wifi cards use the same hardware
and can use the same drivers and many people use the sandisk with the socket driver and have good results with it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=14929
it could be that the card you talk about is the same hardware
Has anyone tried this card with the socket drivers and does it use the same sys chipset?

So the problem is only the memory chip?
Sandisk Wifi card without it is compatible?
Thank's a lot.
Hi..
yeah well not really because i think that people can use the memory but not the wifi it require some special driver to use both things
and xda's dont have that driver and cant have it installed i think
yeah the non mem sandisk is fine and so i sockets or what ever the other company who use the same chip is called
SANDISK and SPECTEC .... compatibility

in my old times ;-PP I have been using sandisk SDIO WLAN card with XDA II and it was working for me, my friends have also reported succesfull operation withy sandisk card ....
I have not tried combo from sandisk (wlan + memory) at that time it was too expensive
you can also try SPECTEC WLAN (card has been reported to work on MDA mini etc.) card that is recently out to the market, it is much shorter and cheaper as compared to Sandisk .... for photos and simple comparison here it the link, although it is in my mother tongue .... just look for the pictures ;-)

i am running the spectec sdw-820 since almost two weeks and it runs flawlessly even under buzzmobile 2005 with the current driver release 1.24.2 the only contra is that only very few network tools/scanner run under buzzmobile 2005.
handling and using is very easy. i am excited about that small sized wifi-card.

SDIO for QTek 1010?

Hi! I would appreciate your help in the following subject:
I would like to use a WiFi card with my QTek 1010. Since it appears that the 1010 is not equipped by default with a SDIO slot, I can not use the WiFi card...
My question is: is it possible somehow to make my 1010 compatible with SDIO cards? (ROM upgrade maybe???)
Thanks a lot!
Oliver
no it's hardware
the cpu in xda1 dont have a SD interface so require an external chip to handle the sd interface
xda2 and later have a cpu which have an SD interface which support SDIO
unless one could find a chip which had the same legs and same interface and was in general 100% compatible with the SD interface chip in the xda1 one could solver it out and replace it
but possibly one would also run into driver related issues as roms are very spc in what drivers there
would be easier and cheaper to buy a new device
and it would most surdenly void any warrenty the device would have

hard wiring an external wifi card

Iv read alot about but, no definate answers, so I was hoping you guys could finally give me the correct answer.
I have an SPV M1000 and as we all no there is no inbuilt wifi, I have bought a SDIO wifi and have a SD storage card, I have seen several hardware hacking projects saying that people have taken apart teir PDA and manually solder wires from the connecting pins of the SD slot to the wifi card, and they still have the SD slot free for the storage card. so cut a long story short they have internal wifi and they can use the sd storage card.
Is this a feasable hack?
not sure if newer roms changed that but himalaya dident use to be able to work with those sdio cards with both wifi and memory
Iv got a PLUSCOM SDIO card and it works great no probs at all, iv read some posts about the contollers on the boards wont be able to handle two devices at once.
In thoery I dont see any problems other than mounting it somewhere as surly the controller will just share the load as long as your not trying to use both devices at exactly the same time (not likely in my case) then it will be just like having one card in.

SDIO Card for GENE

Hello,
Can anyone please tell me wheter the any SDIO card will work for GENE or not?
Also i want to know that, do they come with some memory or not?
I don't there is any SD card given bundled with the device. You may however get one for very cheap prices ~<10 dols.
Hi Carty, i think r.pitalia wanted to ask another thing.
The question is; Does any SDIO card ( For instance SDIO GPS receiver or SDIO Wi-Fi ) work with GENE?
Besides, The SDIO cards do not have extra memory in itself as far as i know however there is a slot for microSD memory cards on some of SDIO Cards such as this following products; http://www.spectec.com.tw/gps.htm
