Contents of windows/startup? - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Could someone list the standard files for O2 Exec found in windows/startup on a normal setup please?

Could someone just take a look in their windows/startup folder and jot down the file names please?
Ive missed 2 out when I replaced them and lost my own list :?

Really depends upon what you mean by "standard". I presume you mean the "Personal" install. I can only tell you that the three app-shortcuts I'm forced to delete from Startup on a "Basic" install are:
"Active" - points to:
"\Windows\Mobile Solutions\O2ActiveUI\o2aui.exe"
"BatteryNFO" - points to:
"\Windows\Mobile Solutions\O2ActiveUI\Modules\BatteryNFO\BatteryNFO.exe"
"Connections.exe" - points to:
"\Windows\Mobile Solutions\O2ActiveUI\Modules\Connections\Connections.exe"
HTH

I did mean 'personal' install.
So after you cut those you mention, what is left inthe startup folder?

Can't be certain as I have other stuff installed now, and I use a "Basic" install, but think only two are left. Note that these are all shortcuts even though some had .exe in their filename:
poutlook.lnk - pointing to:
:MSPOUTLOOK
sddaemon.exe - points to:
"\Windows\sddaemon.exe"
Not sure about the following - since it may be part of CodeWallet2005 Pro:
CWTimeOut.exe - pointing to:
"\Windows\CWTimeOut.exe"

Storing email on SD card in WM2005

Hi all, I'm a noob with a Wizard on O2 running WM2005. I have had some partial success with the above topic. Would appreciate any advice as to whether I've done something really silly or whether the idea could be taken further.
OK, I nicked all of this from other threads so only take the credit for putting it together.
Suggest before you start you empty all of your mailboxes on the device.
Step 1. Disable messaging on startup. Believe there are two ways of doing this, one is to remove it from the "Today" screen items, or the following registry hack. "HKLM\Microsoft\Today\Items\"Messaging" And change Enabled to 0
Step 2. Apply the following hack: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\MAPI Add a new string value called PropertyPath. For the value in that field, I added the storage card directory without the "attachments sub folder. i.e. \Storage Card\Inbox.mst... where ... is the (random?) number assigned.
Ok, when I synch the device, all of my emails now go to the storage card in the above named directory.
Right, now for the "partial" success bit (hoping the experienced guys can help out here).
Because I've disabled messaging in the registry, in order to get the items on the today display, I have to go into settings etc. Once that is set, it updates the registry so at reset time it screws up and creates a new "storage card" directory on the unit itself and renames the storage card as storage card 2.
Any thoughts on how to get round this ?
I've tried adding "messaging" to the startup folder and it ***** up as above.
So... thoughts are as follows:
Is it possible to add a cab to the extended ROM which forces the registry key to zero on reset (was thinking along the lines of the one already there which removes the battery icon)
....and for the gurus, is there something I could run to automatically add the "messaging" item to the today screen with some sort of delay on it to allow the card to initialise ?
and finally, have I banjaxed my device by doing this? Seems to work OK
Thanks all

New O2 Exec ROM and OzVGA - Lovers or Enemies?

Has anyone else tried to run OzVGA with the new O2 Exec ROM recently released?
I've now tried twice and both times after rebooting into VGA mode it locks on the image with what looks like the sun. I can see the Select and Exit today buttons across the bottom but thats it.
Oh and the signal LED is flashing so at least something is working.
No response from the device at all.
Please tell me someone has seen this and has a fix - I dont think I could handle another hard rest again.
Didn't have these problems with the iMate ROM.
TIA
Jason
ozVGA does not work on the new EXEC/Dopod ROM.
Try another one as attached. I have tested it and it works great!
Bought my XDA Exec a week ago and had been struggling to install OzVGA via downloads from other threads here. Saw your posts here, gave it a go, worked first time. Thanks for the pointer.
Only a small number of font issues with the built-in monitor programs, but the main apps seem to display well. Only unexpected quirk for me is that I can no longer get a fingernail to the Close (red cross) button in the top-right-hand corner - the bezel gets in the way! Still, I'm prepared to sharpen my nails as per a recent thread!
Any clues as to the source - is it a variant of OzVGA, or a different product?
Will this work with the QTEK ROM or is this just specific for O2?

Here is the file you need and the instructions. The only difference is that you should not use the files contained in the "Windows Folder Files" of the .rar but download the new and updated dll files for AKU2 from here:VGA files
Extra step: Create a shortcut to VJBigPhoneRes in \windows\startup
Notes:
1. Backup so you don't have to hard reset if anything goes wrong.
2. Before replacing the files in \windows with the ones contained in "vgasystemfiles" make sure you backup the originals.
3. WM5 do not allow overwriting ROM files from your PC. You can however move the files to your SD and do it from there.
4. You will get a new icon on the bottom right hand corner, for VJBigPhoneRes. If for any reason the phone app does not appear correctly just tap on it and "Load and fix phone".
5. The only phone buttons that do not appear correctly are on the PIN input screen but that's not really an issues since you can type the pin and hit enter.
Hope this helps.

i've tried this on my O2 exec with what so far seems to be a large ammount of success here. (following the instructions in the last post).
I have reco explorer installed so it makes overwriting the rom based files (power.exe etc).
I recommend that you use something like spb backup to back the device up in its entirity before you do this!
Also it would be good if we had a revert application for the phone vbj stuff but for now , hey , it works if you have a spare 10 minutes to set it up.
I surfed to one of my regular sites via opera and it looks excellent on par with the Zaurus SL-3200 runing firefox.
Previously when i tried this alot of the GFX were mangled. so far i've only found a little bit of mangled GFX.
Hudsons IP Dashboard ends up getting a bit squished but its nothing that ruins the uses of the app. Also looks like the bottom right hand corner of active sync has a little bit of corruption. but its not as if it makes the device un-usable.
I'm looking at it now and it looks EXCELLENT! The one thing that concerns me is battery drain, i would have thought this will effect the battery with it having to draw more of a screen now but i'll keep a check on it.
I'm running the latest 02 rom so I can confirm a large ammount of success and if you use spb backup you can easily restore the device should you need to..
to be fair though, you need good eye sight, i've turned the font up to biggest and it still looks good (also helps a little with spacing).
have a bash, don't be scared!

i tried that, but it wone lest em copythe backlight files etc as the files are read only etc? hoe can i replace them?
anyone? i cant figure it out, or if the worst comes to the worst, how do you remove it? or is that hard reset time?
You can copy the files from the SD into the main memory with Resco Explorer. It will allow you to overwrite ROM files.
The file download now seems to be 404 for me. Please could someone else kindly upload the files so I can have some fun too :]

Managed to find what was needed. Thanks

How do I clear recent programs (or disable it)?

I have a Cingular/HTC 8125 running the latest official ROM from HTC. On my start menu I have a list of recently used programs (the last five or so). I want to disable this feature so only the applications that I want there are there.
Does anyone know how to disable it or at least clear it?
Thank you.
I would love to know too

There is a small app here that does the job http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=35536
VJEschaton has this feature built in too - but with the same limitations, it only takes effect after the reset.
I think there may be another way to entirely remove recent programs, but it needs some hacking that I don't have time for right now.
If anyone is interested and would feel competent to write it, PM me.

The first solution worked well. Thank you.
Although if there is a method to remove "Recent Programs" all together then I'd like to know.
Thank you.
Dont they disapear when you soft reset ?
In another forum some guy (sorry I can't remember where and who), gave this solution:
"Use some type of utility (like Resco File Explorer or just browse to the PDA while in the cradle from your PC) and browse to the Windows\Start Menu\Programs folder on the PDA. Create sub-folders in the root of the Programs folder (such as Utilities, Applications, Games, etc) and copy all of your shortcuts from the Windows\Start Menu\Programs folder into these sub-folders. Once complete, go to Settings and Menus. From here, uncheck all of the programs that are checked and place checks next to all the sub-folders that you just created (* Make sure you stay under the maximum limit of 5 (or whatever)).
It seems that the "recent list" only monitors the Start Menu\Programs folder. If you move your shortcuts out of this folder, they no longer appear on that dreaded recent list. The major bonus that I've noticed is that the Start menu no longer has that 3 - 5 second lag!!!
Note: Using this work around, you will need to move the shortcuts of any newly installed applications into your sub-folders manually. Also, be sure you remap your PDA buttons to the location of the new shortcuts. Other then these two "cons", this solution works GREAT!!!"
I've tested it and it sure works great!!!
I forgot to mention that with this trick you can DISABLE recent documents list
Danny-B-, yes, it worked well.
jolas, I attempted this exactly as you described. I renamed "Accessory" to "Accessories" and created "Tools". I moved everything that I didn't want to appear in the recent programs list including moving Calculator to Accessories. I then launched Calculator and it appeared in the list.
None of which except the defaults (IE, Messaging, WMP, etc.) are checked in the menu settings.
Did I miss something?
Thank you.
Delicious, worked for me on my Cingular 8125 w/ 2.25. I was really getting tired of running ClearTemp all the bloody time.
Interestingly enough I have a folder called "Settings" and it won't let me show it on the Start Menu - I had to rename it to "Utilities".

EDIT: Screenshot added of what your tree should look like after this change. Removed confusing post.
rubbercow, your `drawing` is as confusing as words.. with the DO, DO NOT seems to be at the same place.
Anyway, I was confused myself too. However, after reading through and some fiddling around, I finally got what these posts are trying to say.
Just to make this as clear as possible.
Definition:
Sticky Start Menu Item (SSMI) - I defined it as those items that always appear on your start menu (top section). You can add/remove your SSMIs in the Settings->Menus
Recently Launched Programs (RLP) - the items in the Recently launched program list (e.g. the list under SSMIs list).
Fact:
WM5 will not put any of your SSMIs into the RLP list (or else, you will have duplicate icon/item of the same program in your start menu).
More talking:
Using the fact above, we can avoid programs that we do not want to be put into the RLP list (e.g. stuff in SD card that is large and takes ages for it to load the icon when you press the Start) by having them as SSMIs (in the list). However, WM5 only allows up to 7 items in the SSMIs list. So, we create a folder for it.
E.g. By default you should have a directory structure that looks like this
\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Games
To test it, you can try putting the `Games` folder (the folder!) into the SSMIs list. After doing so, any programs (games) you start (that is under the Games folder) will not appear on the RLP list. This is the thing we are trying to exploit.
Hence, to avoid stuff going into the RLP list, you create some other folders, e.g. Tools
\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Games
\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Tools
And move everything into this `Tools` folder. Make this `Tools` folder as one of the SSMIs. Then any software under this Tools will not appear on the RLPs list.
Process Summary
Simple procedure. Modified to suits your needs.
(1) Create a `Tools` (or any name) folder under the Start Menu\Programs. Example, this folder
\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Tools
(2) Move everything into this newly created `Tools` folder.
(3) Make this `Tools` folder (the folder) as sticky on the start menu by 'ticking' it in the Setting->Menus
- now all your stuff will not appear in the recently launched programs list
- end -

Thanks for making that clearer hamin - I think i eventually worked it out.
But still begs the question - why do people not want programs showing in the recently loaded program list? I find this useful and my startmenu always starts in less than a second even after soft reset.

You are the lucky one, I guess There are many (including me) which seems to find the start menu to be slow (e.g. this one ). I'm not sure why mine is slow (1-2 seconds), probably because I had many of the software installed on my SD (instead of the main memory) and my phone is a Charmer. Topic aside, is Wizard faster than Charmer (is there any benchmark to it)?
Other than the start menu, the Start->Setting pages are also very slow (a second or two) after each softreset. You don't have this problem?

Goto '\Windows\Start Menu' and create a directory (name it e.g Applications).
Now, under the 'Windows\Start Menu' there must be 3 subdirectories (Applications, Programs, Settings).
If yes, then move the desired apps, from the '\Programs' folder to the '\Applications' folder. (Before you remove the apps make sure that you have uncheck them from the 'Menus' list (Start -----> Settings -------> Menus).

Itask Configuration and Answers for Mogul/XV6800/Titan Owners

I thought I'd start a thread for anyone else out there like me who thinks that rhov23's Itask application is fantastic but has yet to figure out all of his/her device's configuration. If we all collaberate, we can probably limit the repetetive questions rhov23 gets so that he can continue to focus on advancing Itask even further.
Anyway, I'll keep this updated with the latest answers and fixes. Post your own configuration questions and hopefully someone else has already found the answer and can help you out. It is also worth noting that it is usually necessary to restart iTask after making changes or modifications. Below is my modified input.txt file and descriptions of the changes I've made thus far. There is still a ton of work left to do:

For example, &appsexec4=\windows\wmplayer.exe&END refers to my windows media player. If you either look through the folders of your device from your computer or look through your file explorer on your device you can find the path to just about every program and link it correctly to the proper button. So, you insert the proper path aft this part, &appsexec4=

You need to copy the input.txt file from the iTask folder on your phone and paste that copy somewhere on your computer to begin modifying.
Don't know why??
Don't know why, but this would not work for me:

Some Help
This is a great application, which once you get used to is straight forward, if a little time consuming to set up. Half the fun for me is working out things that I don't really understand. I have the original input text file open alongside the one that I'm configuring. You just have to find the section in the input text relating to the icon your trying to link, and after the = add the path for the application you want that icon to open. The path can be found in Explorer (or better still Resco Explorer) on your device. Most applications are found in Windows, Start Menu, Programs. This is what you type into the input text file in itask, remembering a space has to be replaced by %20 and that the text has to be exactly the same as on your device.
So, if you want to assign a program (say File Explorer) on your device to the first icon on the Apps page of itask (ie when you launch itask, click the 3rd icon along which says Apps, the first button is in the top left of the new screen and has a smiley face on it) alter the text in the input.txt file of itask after &appstext1="\Windows\Start%20Menu\Programs\File%20Explorer.Ink&END" Don't use the " " I've included them to show what you should type. When you close input.txt and restart itask, the smiley face button in Apps will open File Explorer. And so on until you've linked an icon to each program you want to open.

The "another top" program you see is nothing but a screenshot, you can replace it by changing *loadpic*.jpg to any other picture you want, or if you want your application to open immediately, change your *loadtime configuration in input.txt to 0.

Move application to folders

Hi, I would like to know how to move application to folders created in programs. Thanks
using total commander, go to /windows/start menu/programs
in there you can create new folders, add /move shortcuts and so forth
the read-only attributes need to be changed first for the standard proggies before you can move them
You also can create folders in "Office Mobile".
I have in \windows\start menu\ the following folders and sub-folders with various apps:
Office mobile
------Finance
------Games
------Multimedia
------Navi+Comms
------Office
------Reference
------System
Programs
------PI Utils
------Utilities
------SBSH Utils
------Tool box
For the standard programs I think you actually need to change the registry and not just the read-only status. Search here in the forum as this has been covered somewhere - I have seen it but don't have the link.

I have a similar grouping and nope, attributes will do it fine
BTW, I can recommend Quickmenu for a regular winXP style startmenu (check the wiki for the link) with cascading folers

Thanks - I stand corrected. I had read elsewhere that the registry needs changing. Thinking about that now, I think this referred to the Office Mobile folder.
How abt the those applications install and create in the program page. I wish to move them to a existing folder, like I've pocket UNO installed on the program page but I wish to move it to the game folder that already exist there.

Just cut and paste the file into the games folder - should move with no problem.
