get files from Cab-files - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Is there a way to extract special files from a Windows Mobile 5 cab-file?
I would like to extract at leats some of the files and also to extract the whole cab file.
I did try it with WinZip and Winrar on my PC, but I found no way to extract a file to a usable format.
Please give me some advise.

WinCE Cab Manager

WinCE CAB Manager 1.1.0.4 (latest version) will not open Windows Mobile 5 or XML-based CAB files.
The low-tech method is to open them with WinRAR and look at the XML file which will contain the proper filename and the CABbed filename which you'll have to rename back to the proper filename after you extract.

ROM Cab File

Anyone have the newest Rom for the I-Mate Jamin in CAB format, as I use a mac and cannot use the exe file from i-mate - thanks!
Do you have a Mac-friendly version of something like WinZip or WinRAR? If so you should be able to extract the .cab from the .exe.

I do not think the CAB file can be extracted from the ROM .exe file using winzip or winrar. The ROM .exe file contains only nk.nbf file & other files required for installation. Only these files can be extracted.

Unpack ROM

Hi all
I have a problem with unpacking the ROM file.
I've downloaded the file NL_11300_131_11200.exe and in the tutorial it says right click and unpack. Now I allready have Winrar but all I can choose is Add and Compress options no Unpack option.
Am I missing something?
thanks in advance
If you don't succeed with WinRar, try WinZip or just execute the exe-file & search in your temp folders for the .nbf files. Don't close the program before you copied those files to a save place.
M
Yes i tried to search the file *.nbf and *.nb1 on my computer while the setup is still on but it can't find any files.
I have 2 hardisc and i've allso search on the other one but no results.
i haven't tried winzip yet i'll try it now
Right-mouse click on the exe file and then select extract here. Files will be automatically placed in the same place where the exe file is.

Extract .dll from .cab

Excuse me for beeing a newbie, but can't seem to fin any way to extract the .dll and .gif files from a cab file. For example I downloaded CrossbowPhonepad.zip from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=292014&highlight=media+player+skin
But I'm not quite happy with the way it looks and I would like to start to play and alter with it. But when I extract the .Cab file all i get is strange .012-fil and so on. And of course the .XML file where you se how the .dll and .gif files shall be installed.
How to I extract them (.dll and . gif) from the .Cab file??
I'v tried Winrar, Winace, Total commander.
Please Help
the simplist way
Have you tried cabdump.pl (it can be found on the XDA-Wiki, main wiki page->complete tool list -> RomTools->cabdump.pl)
But I've found the simplest way is to install the cab on your device, and then copy the files you're interested in to your pc.
There is an excellent, easy to use program called MSCEInf that allows you to work with CAB files, including drag and drop extraction of files - with their original names - from CAB installation files. It's available here:
http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/msceinf.shtml
It's developed by a Frenchman named BenoƮt Thonnart.
You should also try WinCE Cab Manager.
But generally WinRar works fine. The files in the cab are simply renamed to 8.3 convention with extension showing the file number. Extract the xml and you will see what name belongs to what file. Just extract and rename.
Thanx gues...that really helped

rar archives and .cab files!!!

Guys, I'm stupid.
When i download a .cab file it appears as a Rar archive - with 1 .xml file and loads of other files - how do I extract it to a .cab file to install on my pda?
Sorry.
fanger
i suspect that your winrar just associated cab files to itself
the fact that they apear with a winrar icon and open in winrar when you click on them
dont mean they are .rar
just get them to the pda and run them
Thanks.
Have just tried exactly that and - Hey presto -
Thankyou for not taking the mick as well
