Hi
I have some help on my homepage on how to lock devices. There is also a tool called iLock. The sources for iLock are also available thru an yahoo group.
Please feel free to take a look at these at www.hjgode.de/dev and www.hjgode.de/dev/iLock
Happy new year

Try SprintDB www.kaione.com
I use it and it is brilliant, its like having full blown Microsoft Access on the ocket PC, Macros. modules, forms, queries, the works
But Sprint DB hasn't been developed for a long time.. as I see so far.. Does it work good on a WM5? Also in landscape mode and so on..
Alex
if its for commercial use what about Oracle Lite with Mobile Server.

The latest I heard from Kaione was that they were working on a WM5 version, but I've been using even the existing version with no problems since I got the Universal. It's fine in landscape mode as that was developed for WM2003SE compatibility.
Depending on what you actually want to do, SQLCE is really good. We use it at work, but you'd need to do some programming to use it!
Unfortunately I am not so good in programming databases. Would be nice if I could import some XLS or TXT lists and could design a nice form for the device for viewing..
SprintDB IS being actively developed, just before christmas I became a beta tester for their version 3 of sprintDB.
It works perfectly on WM5 and in landscape. It is a fab product, much easier and better features than all of the others I have tried.

Yes it's true!Visited one of my local Cingular retailers today, and ordered my very own Cingular 8525! My first intent was to order the Treo 750(once the salesperson informed me it was on their order sheet, along with the much anticipated Treo 680). But after waiting approximately 4 hours for an email confirmation, my sales rep. went ahead and called(I'm assuming Cingular HQ) to verify my order. My sales rep. called me back to inform me that the Treo 750 will not be available until mid December, but that my Cingular 8525 will BE IN on Thursday of this week via UPS! As mentioned in my other post, this will be the first time that I will be using Windows Mobile, so I definitely look forward to learning about this OS and I will continue to scour through all of these threads on this awesome website. A few quick questions in closing for all of you TyTn owners out there. Please reply:
1. As this is going to be my primary phone, how is the voice quality on this phone. I will probably not be purchasing another BT headset for quite some time, as my money will be tied up in a 2gb micro sd card. All replies welcome
2. I know this is a redundant question, but can anyone advise of any must have apps for this phone. I have large hands, so I might be needing one of the newer, larger skins for the phone dialer app. But I also feel like the app. that displays the weekly forecast is nice. Sorry, but I can't remember who posted these, or what their respective names are.
Good for ya ... check out the HoFo Cingular PDA sub-forums for more apps and info ..
Don't forget to install my PTT patch so you can reclaim your PTT button for other uses! As an added benefit, the installation will downgrade your security settings so you won't have those pesky "Unsigned CAB" dialogs popping up everytime you want to install one of the myriads of (very cool list btw) apps listed above....
edit.. voice quality is excellent on my TyTN. It's got a good speakerphone too.
Welcome !!!!
Thank you so much for not only taking the time to reply, but also for supplying me with such an extensive list of tools/apps.

Wow! You guys are awesome! Thanks so much! And yes, in case you're wondering my Cingular 8525 came in today! This machine is awesome! The online photos/pics just don't do it any justice! I've been playing with it for the last 4 hours, and unfortunately I have to put it down and get at least a few hours sleep before night shift tonight. Hopefully it will be very quiet so that I might be able to reaquaint myself with this awesome phone/tool/machine.
Congratulations balld and I hope you enjoy your new machine in good health.
By the way could you post the first three digits of your serial number i.e. HTXXX and whether you have the screen allignment issue. I am thinking of buying the Heremes too but just want to be sure after what serial numbers the issue is resolved.
Congratulations once again

UGH! I WANT IT NOW! I Have to go pick up some money from a friend before I can go to Cingular to buy this. I've been waiting for this beast for months. It's funny because everyone is waiting for the PS3 but I just want my 8525!!!
Hey Guyz,
Long time no see..! I have been assigned to develope a barcode scanning application using .NET Compact Framework 2.0 (I can use 3.5 if necessary).
Right then to the point, I have already developed and finished the barcode application and there came a new demand from the business team who uses the application.
Basically the devices we use are HP iPaq (Windows Mobile 6 Professional) in combination with Grabba barcode scanner. They have requested that the application I wrote starts automatically and covers the entire screen. Now as for covering the entire screen is working fine but I need to do something about starting the application when the device starts up or when a device is put to sleep by clicking the power button and then bring back, the application should start up or show up automatically.
Now I have been researching and exploring a lot of third party applications and one application so far that comes the closest to my needs is the SPB Mobile Shell. It does pretty much what I want apart from locking down all buttons.
Now what I would like to know is, is it even possible to lock down all buttons at all? If not then how would I atleast go about developing an app which behaves like a SPB Mobile Shell? I know that the SPB Mobile Shell is very complicated application but all I want if the behaviour of SPB Mobile Shell's Today screen.
If I need to start by creating my own custom shell then where would I start from?
Regards
I'm not a developer, but hopefully this will help. You would be better off looking at kiosk software such as spb kiosk, whick locks down the whole device apart from programs you specify, ie. your developed app, and any other apps that are used.
This is a virus, not an application.
You use your pocket pc only for barcode reading. Why not use just a reader which costs 10 times less??
And no, SPB is not a complicated application.

Please don't judge me by my post count or the type of question. This is a genuine question.
Tell me what sort of device you think I can use which costs 10 times less.
I need a device with Wi-Fi so users can take it with them while attached to the barcode scanner. Then using the Wi-Fi the application connects and talks a web service running on the intranet server so users from all around the country can manage state of things that are needed to be tracked of their movement.
This was a specific request from the CIO that users are not needed to use any other applications and thus complicate things for themselves. All they want is just to use the application without any special training.
Hope this clears things a little.

Thanks mate
I will pass this down to the chief architect so we can decide if the SPB Kiosk can do of what we need.
Cheers again.
FYI, we are going to try the PocketKiosk Builder

Will see how that goes.
And what about puting a link to your app in the windows\statup folder?

Another idea
Old thread, but...
Why not go for a unit with a built in barcode reader and Wifi/GPRS like the Motorola MC55 / MC75A?
Then you can use the Motorola AppCentre software which allows you to restrict which programs can be launched and presents a really simple interface for the user. I'm pretty sure you can download this software free with the serial number of one of their units.
Users will have no need to hunt for Wifi connectivity as the units have built in connectivity to the Internet. All you need is a low data allowance SIM with voice calls blocked.
The units are more expensive than the HP iPAQ, but they do more as well.
Hopefully someone might find this information useful.
HD.
Ok so I am not a developer by any means, but I am an avid Facebook fan and a devoted Mob Wars player. And I have an idea, but no clue about its feasibility.
While it is possible to play Mob Wars by going to the full FB site on Opera Mobile, it would be amazing if somone/people could develop an application to access FB and the game and play a version of it that is optimized for PPC's. Perhaps a way to log in and go straight to the game and skip the FB home page and selecting the Mob Wars application. If you are not familiar with the game but are on FB check it out under the apps. It is easily the most popular FB application. And, I think it would make for a great PPC game, but would require online access, etc.
Any takers?! I have a feeling it would be really popular if possible and developed!
Since this is my idea, I would prefer that it work on my phone. I use a Sprint Vogue, stock ROM, M2D Iolite Version, WM 6.1. I have install compact framework 3.5 so I can work with that as well.
Thanks and Lemme know.
Did you ever get a responce to this or find another app to play on the phone?
I think it's a great idea, microsoft have released a facebook app which works, though it doesn't have facebook app support unfortunately.
The one problem with mobwars and opera is the way the code has DOM objects with his Ajax handling, you have to retype the URL in each time you fight or do a job.
I'd be more than happy to try and get something like this happening, though I'm not sure about copyright's and whatnot, so I've contacted the developers of mobwars and hopefully they get back to me.
I don't know how well I'll be able to do something like this, I have been developing software for windows for about 8 years and also have been a web developer for about 6-7. I've never written a windows mobile application so I wonder how it'll turn out.
I use a HTC Touch Pro with WM 6.1 and .net framework 3.5, so I'll start fiddling when I have some time and let you guys know how I go. I'm not sure how I'll go about getting permissions as I'm sure the program would require access to the database and what not, but as soon as I know stuff I'll make another post.
Feel free to message or email me about it if you have ideas or want to help.
Thanks,
Daniel
Hello all,
I have been tasked to look into possible lock down of user interface for Android phones. Previously, we built custom mobile application for Windows Mobile and used SPB Kiosk Engine to perform lock down so that users can only run our application on windows mobile devices.
I would like to find out whether it is possible to perform similar lock down on Android Phones (limiting the functionalities) and start up with just our custom built android application. It would be best if there are existing lock down applications which can do this (similar to SPB Kiosk engine). If not, the only way would be to compile custom firmware ?
Hope anyone who has ideas of this topic can shed some light.
Thanks in advance!

Hello all,
did some research on the web and didn't manage to find anything regarding lock down on Android mobile phones. Any comments on whether this can be done at firmware level (e.g. compile custom Android firmware) ?
Thanks,
Zell

Hy and welcome to our forum,
what do you mean with lock down??? I cant follow you!
Greatz

Hello Mccoffein,
Lock down would mean to restrict the functionalities. E.g. we only want the Android mobile phone to run our program on start up and cannot access any other functions.
Other examples on PC will be windows based Internet Kiosks, which only allows users to surf Internet net, but does not expose other functionalities of Windows.
Cheers,
Zell
