Bug in Activesync 4.1 Windows Media Player 10? Cant close? - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Hi,
Can you try the following for me please and report your results. I want to know if this is just a problem I have or you have seen it too. I couldnt seem to find anything in the forum.
Try the following:
1. Attach your device (In my case my M5000) to your computer and and make sure Activesync starts to sync.
2. Run a video file with Media Player 10 (making sure you can hear sound and then close the window using the (X) on top right of window.
3. Do you still hear the sound even after WMP closes?
In actual fact due to AS syncing media player it never stops the wmplayer process and thus the file continues to play albeit in the background.
This is quite annoying. Do you all have the same problem? This doesnt happen when my device is not connected.
Any thoughts????
A.

Yes I'm getting this too.

[PROBLEM] HTC MP3 player stops after every song?

Hi there!
I've a huge problem with the music player on the hd2. It stops after EVERY song. I alsways have to turn on the phone and manually hit play or next to play the next sond. That's quite annoying!
It doesn't matter if I select an album, a playlist or whatver. Even if I turn on repeat-mode, the sond is only played once.
Anyone else have this problem? Is there a solution?
I noticed the same thing, and I already updated to 1.48...
There's a partial solution anyway: if you don't press the power off button to activate the stand by mode, but instead if you let stand by mode to activate by itself, it works correctly.

I've had the same thing happen when I let standby mode activate itself, also have an issue where the MP3s stutter, small 1 second breaks in the music.
Few people use the embedded mp3 player coz it's bad and very slow, especially when you have a massive library.
You should try another player: Kinoma (freeplay is free), CorePlayer, Nitrogen (free), etc...
err, starting an extra application for that doesn't sound very attractive to me. Actually I like the fact that this is integrated into sense.
Regarding the speed: I've ~10 GB of music. The HTC player handles them very well
After i read this, i tested it on my device.
The first time the player stopes after the first track,
but if you press play again and you come to the end, then it switch to the next track without a problem and play it.
regards
I have the repeat button on and it doesnt' stop!! And the built in mp3 player is better than WMP because it actually shows chinese characters properly for me... And the interface looks nice...
I noticed the music player in htc sense only looks at the music folder on the storage card, is there any way to add more folders of music or must I insert all my music there and it will automatically be "synced" every time a new song/folder of songs is added?
On mine, the HTC music player looks for all audio files on both the storage card and the phone itself (anywhere in 'My Documents'). It even picks up ring tones I've added and the 'sample' music on the phone. So, I'm not sure if this is a setting of some kind, but mine seems to do what you want, and your's seems to do what I want.
same as you
I have the exactly same problem my friend nd it's irritating. For now, the only solution I have is the use of bluethoot earphones where I can skip the music on it, but as soon as I put classic earphones it does the same problem. I'm gonna try another player I think. it's a pity because HTC player is starting to become gorgeous
track order
Has anyone noticed track order problems. I've started a thread on this. It's really doing my head in.
Same track order problem here. Posted it to HTC-support, they have no solution. Every other player doesn't have this problem.

HTC music player stopping

(Music stops playing shortly after the HD2 screen turns off)
Anyone found a solution to this yet? Searched all the topics and there isn't a definitive solution. Tried to appled some AudioMan_Eng.cab fix but that didn't work.
Seems to only keep playing if I use windows media player I think.

I have the same problem. I think it has something to do with the album art update function. when i play a song i can see that it tries toget the album art for it. when that fails the song stops.
A
same problem album art problem plz somebody help...
this issue is extremely annoying. Something that seems so simple yet HTC manages to mess it up. This happened to me today and I've never experience this kind of problem with any other form of media player. This is unacceptable and it really is things like this that separates apple from its competitors.
This is starting to really piss me off, I just deleted my music folder and tried doing the syncing method through windows media player (thought maybe having more folders would help), that didn't do anything.
Reduced the amount of songs to 100 and that didn't do anything.
Tried installing different media players and they all have the same problem.. wow this is bull****
Did you see my thread?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=616814
Have you re-formatted the card using the phones application?
I ended up using Mediamonkey to sync as I can specifically setup conversion rules. I have the paid version, I'm not 100% sure that Auto-conversion is part of the free version.
However everything is running great now.

Problem: Music player loses audiotracks after connecting to pc.

Anyone has this problem? Kinda annoying to have to softboot everytime after even just charging the phone...
Audiofiles show up fine in file explorer & play in media player, but HTC music player just informs "no music found".
ROM: latest MIRI.
Are you sync-ing with media player?
pls chek this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=647136
no, just dropping the files to SD card. Don't want to sync my music files with any computer (almost main reason that I sold iphone.. itunes....aaarrrrgghh..)
thanks for the link, but no help..
another question; Is there a way to disable the albumart fetcher? (i always make albumarts myself..) it countlessly tries to update the arts, but does nothing (..but takes resources..)
First post, and an attempt to help after lurking here for weeks. LOL.
I had the same problem with my audio files. I'd disconnect from the PC and it would say "no files found" or some such thing. However, if I went into the library and mucked about (not sure what I did the first time. Just sorta clicked around until I saw a list of music), I would see songs on my SD card, press one of them, and, voila, my Sense Player would, once again, find all of the songs I'd downloaded to the device.
I've not used Sync, however, as I hate Itunes style appz like that (they frighten and confuse me...). I have been dragging my folders over manually. I doubt that'd make a difference, though.

I do the DIY covers myself, as a lot of my "albums" are actually compilations of tunes I like best from a particular artist rather than actual albums (ergo, no covers actually exist)! I've not had an issue with the albumart fetcher trying to connect, though. I've didn't even know it was there until I hit it by mistake while flailing about on the touchpad (coming from a G1...this thing is SENSITIVE).
This isn't just the fact that your plugging in your phone to the pc and using it as a disk drive is it?? when you do that you cant access the files on the phone..
I guess its not though as you say you can view the files in explorer...

He didnt mean it like that. He was talking about that his music disappears AFTER he had connected the device to the pc. Afterwards the tracks dont appear in the player.
I didnt have this problem with the HD2 but with the HD...never seen it since i own the HD2.

music won't play in background

If I start music up then hit home or back then the task gets killed. I tried a reboot and this sometimes cures the problem, then after a while it comes back.
I also tried killing all processes and this has worked but doesn't every time.
I googled the problem but it only really came up with a thread on this forum for another device. Aldo that user had installed other task managers. My device is only a couple of days old and has just had some apps installed, no hacking or such like.
Any help appreciated.
Hmmm.
I've noticed that the tab comes with 2 apps. Audio Player and Music Player. Music Player works in the background. Audio Player doesn't.
You can also try Winamp. I think that works in the background
Hitting the back button will kill most apps, even those supposed to run in the background. But the music player should run when you hit home. Winamp does run in the background, use it all the time to listen to radio stations.
Thanks guys.
On my UK unbranded sim free Tab I have two music playing apps called "Music Hub" and "Music".
"Music" will in fact run in the background whether you use home or back buttons to leave.
"Music Hub" will not. In fact it will not run unless I have a cellular connection to verify my locale.
Earlier I was sure neither application would run in the background but perhaps I was just tired ?
Anyway...thanks for your attention, now off to research how to remove useless core apps.
Hi guys
I have the same problem, I'm pretty sure that at the beginning music was playing in background when I swiched to another app, now the music stops! I tried different players (winamp, audio player) in my branded "Tim" (italy) tab...
any new ideas or solutions???
Thanks!
I just couldn't sleep so I tried along until I found a solution!
The first time I used my Tab I connected it to my pc using the usb cable, and tranferred the songs as normal files in mass storage device. Everything worked ok and music played in the background..
then I formatted the memory, and today I was testing a new program to send files to my tab without using the usb cable (Wireless File Transfer).
The first problem I noticed was that when I opened "Music" or Winamp the songs weren't recognized, and so I used ES File Explorer to open the directory and launch a song... the second problem was related to the music not playing in background!
The solution is related to the fact that the phone doesn't scan for media when I transfer using wireless... so I downloaded "rescan media" and now everything works GREAT!
I simply launch the application, the phone searches for new files... they are recognized in my music progs and they play in background if I swich app!
I hope this helps!
I have the same Tablet. Have solved the issue. At first I thought I just needed to download Samsung Music. Well that was a start. Don't try and play tracks straight from that app though. Once you have downloaded Samsung Music, then go to the widgets and place Samsung Music on your interface. From there you will be able to listen to music and do other things. My Tablet is called, Galaxy Tab A.

Vibrant+Zune Pass = Works!

Some forewarning: I tried this a few months ago and it didn't work. I am currently running Bionix-V. I have tried this on two Windows 7 machines and it worked on both. I do mean Zune Pass protected content too, not just the phone showing up in WMP as a syncable device.
Here is what I did:
1. In USB Settings, set it to prompt. Simply setting to Media Player should also work.
2. Connect to PC. In my case drivers where installed as it was the first time I had connected the phone since putting Bionix-V on there. The MTP application should start up automatically and connect.
3. After driver installation the auto-run dialog appears. The top option for me is Sync digital media to this device using Windows Media Player
4. After a few moments you should see the vibrant in the top right corner as a syncable device. The Next Device link will allow you to sync to the SD card.
5. Either wait for the slow as hell media search to find/update media, or simply use Windows Explorer to drag and drop into the right pane.
6. Sync!
7. A subsequent reconnection using this procedure resulted in WMP not finding the device. Repeating steps 1 and 2 was enough for WMP to find the device.
So that's what I did. Depending on response I may come back and put up a better guide. The moral of the story is that it's at least possible, possibly after a bit of star alignment since this previously didn't work. I just did this today so I'm not sure how updating the DRM time-bomb works, worst case is delete/re-add.
confused
I'm confused...
Are you talking about using your Vibrant with the Zune Pass service? (unlimited music downloads $x/mo, DRM makes sure music only plays when subscribing)
Does the Vibrant understand the Zune DRM? (I would find that surprising)
Are you just talking about the Vibrant showing up as a music device in Windows Media?
Robert
I pose the same question....

Sorry for the confusion.
I do indeed mean that it accepts Zune Pass DRM'd WMA's. The Zune software won't work with it (it's strictly for Zunes). The key is using WMP. I honestly think the whole thing is a loophole in how WMP works with the Zune Pass content. I've used this method on a Cowon DAP for the last year or two. I wouldn't be at all surprised if WMP was actually downgrading the DRM to one of the older, more standard ones. Based on experience with my Cowon DAP though, the DRM is definitely still intact after being transfered to the device.
I'm not sure why it works now when it didn't work before though. Previously WMP wouldn't recognize my phone, even though the MTP app was running.
Further info for you, just checked the details in the default Music Player app on one of the tracks. Media type is audio/x-ms-wma. Further down is a "Right Status" section with the data

yea, I've been doing this since I first got my phone. The songs do expire if you cancel your subscription or don't sync with Windows Media Player for a while - and there are quite a few songs that won't sync (because of their DRM licenses). It works ok though. Good enough if you want some of your music with you all the time.
Honestly, I love the Zune Marketplace subscription service and have always just been m'eh on my player. Still I find I use my Zune more for music than my phone though because with the player I can have all my music with me. I wish there was an Android Zune app, but we all know that will NEVER happen.
