SMS Ring Tones ?!? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

I just want to know how to change the SMS tone to be .mp3 ??
i've placed the mp3 file under the windows folder but couldn't
see it in the drop-down list of SMS tones !!!
thank you in advance geeks ..

you need to use wav files in the windows folder for it to work
I am not a Geek!

But if I can use MP3 Files as a normal Call-Ringtone, why not also using MP3 Files as a SMS Sound?! :?:

I have absolutely no idea!! does that help?

Thanx ..
thanx guys for the help. In my opinion, it's impossible to set mp3 files as sms ring tones, you have to convert them into wav files.

havent tried it but I think you can use wma files with phonealarm

Where did you find a dialogue to select different message alert sounds? I can only find choices for ring tones, not message alerts. I've looked through the phone options and the manual but can find nothing about changing message alerts.

Doh! I just found it in Settings/Sounds & Notifications. It's a shame there is no consistent approach to setting ring tones and SMS alerts. No matter, problem solved.

Alert Tone for XDA2 SMS

Hi guys!
How can I use a Midi File as an alert tone for my SMS Alert? I was able to use it for my Phone ringtone but not for SMS tone.
Thanks!

try sticking it in the \windows folder...
That's where I had to put my WAv files for using them as SMS tones..

Cant use own WAVS for text messages?

As far as I can tell, we are limited to using the in built message tones?
I can add new ringtones, and they appear when changing my ringtone, but when I try to change the message tone, the newly added WAV ringtones do not appear in the list, I am stuck with the preset crap.
I have a few I really want to use too.
If I am doing something wrong please let me know.
Put the WAV files in \windows\ main folder... It should appear in your message tones list...
Can't do it still, I've put it in the top windows level as well as the rings folder and still wont show up, I am so bored with the crap defaults!
sigh
Ummm :?: ... Try running the Add Ring Tone applet from the \Start\Setting\System\... Hope this helps as I am using my own customised WAV files for SMS tones on my O2 mini without any problems...
oh :?
ive tried adding the ringtone with the application, it appears in the ringtone list but will not appear in the list for sms tones.
arghhhhhh

sms ring tones

sms tones
Hi there.
Actually, there is a way to use wav files for sms tones.
Put your desired wav file in the \windows folder.
Go to Notifications, messaging:new text message and voila! use your wav file as your SMS tone.
Not with MP3, that is not possible!
well i lied a bit lol ! an mp3 converted to a wav file almost an mp3 !!! tried the above still cant get it to add it to the standard ring tones ie the alarm1 alarm 2 and so on !
ive only had phone for a month so please in very easy english lol

from the active>settings>sounds&notifications>notifications

2 select how to be notified
tick box play sound then in the sound box all i can get is
alarm 1 , 2, 3, 4, default ,hwandsw ,infbeg ,infend ,loudest ,lowbatt ,menupop msgbox ,notify ,online ,quietest ,recend ,type ,voicbeep
pleas ecould some one tell me how to get a wav file in there with out a patch would be lovley !
i have tryed every thing that i can think off !

Sms more rings how solution.
Copy a wav file in the windows directory (in your PDA),, now go to Sound & Notification and see if you got that file under "TEXT MESSAGE" in the list. :? :?

Assigning own .wav file for new text messages

Hi - i can assign custom ringtones for incoming calls.. but not for text messages.
Anyone know how i can change this?
Thanks guys.
(Running on XDA mini S with ROM: 2.16.9.1 WWE)
Place the wav/mp3 etc you want assigning to an SMS tone in the Windows directory, these will then appear in the list for assigning to SMS/Alarms etc
i have tons of wavs in that directory that do not show up when i try to change the notification in Sound Notifications. Anyone know what im missing?
have u tried place the wav to \windows\rings\ ?
PS:the wav files should be within certain bitrates.
yup... if u do that it will work for incoming calls... but NOT FOR TEXT MESSAGES... still haven't figured out how to for texts
I've placed some MP3s in the Windows directory on the device and it works for SMS's. Not sure about wav files though.
how are you assigning the sms sounds? through "sounds and notifications"? cause if i place an mp3 in the windows directory, it does not show up as a selection. i assume it can only read .wav

Editing tones for messages

Hi there.
I`ve bought like 2 months ago an XDA mini and i would like to change the tones for recieving messages.i tried to add the ringtones but failed. Can u pls tell me how i can add new ringtones for incoming messages.
Thank you
I assume you are talking about Notification Sounds? If so, you can do this by adding your sound files to the \Windows directory then under Settings -> NOtification Sounds you can change each notification sound to your personal preference. If the sound file is in the \Windows directory, it should appear in the dropdown list.
i dont think it works...i guess ringtones for incoming calls you can change....

What?! You changed the one under "Messaging: New text message", right? What do you mean by doesn't work. It shows in the setting page but when you receive an SMS, it doesn't produce the sound it suppose to give. Or you are not able to provide your very own customized sound?
No i`ve added the ringtones in /Windows ... and when i want to set up notifications .... i can see those ringtones when i`m setting incoming calls ... but when i want to setup incoming messages ... the ringtone doesn`t appear in the subfolder where the ringtones should be.

yup exactly...me too...
Oh. Ok, trythis.
Copy one of the WAV files (into your PC) that you are able to see from in the list of choices in Notification->Messaging:New SMS
Right click on it, "Properties"->"Summary"->"Advance" (in some cases, you maybe already in Advance).
You should see the BitRate, AudioSampleSize, Channels, AudioSampleRate, AudioFormat, of the WAV file.
Now, your job is to encode your customised WAV file with the EXACT values (you can easily do that with the Sound Recorder within windows).
Copy your encoded WAV into Windows, you should able to see now (you shouldn't require soft resetting the device).
Ringtones - can be MP3/WAV
Notifications Sounds - can be WAV/MID - NOT MP3 !
That is the most commonley made mistake - MP3s cannot be used as Notification Sounds! Just save them as WAV and put the as previously described in the Windows Folder and you are good to go!
Attached you will find a WAV File that 100% works on a MDA Vario ( Wizard )
Matza, of the top of my head the wav file should be 16bit and 22000hz or somink like that...
in simple the Wav file must be PCM Wav at a reducded quality for it to be used as SMS Ringtone
