Cant see any other person having this problem from my searches and topics here.
I am trying to load tomtom5 from a disc. it is the same one i used in my xda2 but it will not load on my xda exec.
I have tried to copy to the card and run but that will not work it says not a correct application.
I have 5 and 5.1 update on disc which worked on the xda2.
Neither will load to the Exec
I load the disc to pc select uk then select install but it immediadtely brings up the error message with the send to microsoft option.
Dont understand this as it worked on the xda11.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Clive
moved to universal
not sure how this posted here but moved to universal
I had the same problem: After much teeth gnashing I found a work around:
Explore the Tomtom install CD and copy the following files your SD card:
GPS.CAB - the conduit between TomTom and your Bluetooth COM port
PIMAddIn.CAB - the conduit between TomTom and your Outlook contacts
WZD.CAB - the Today plug-in (completely optional)
TTN.CAB - the actual application and data files
ENGF.CAB - Jane's lovely voice!
On the Universal, click and install the above files in the order they are listed.
You may also need to reload the maps on the SD card, which should be done via a card reader. I used my old registered XDA2 to reload the maps from the CD. Once you insert the SD card into the Universal, you would have to activate the maps via Tomtom customer support and fax over proof of purchase for the Universal / product codes / device codes etc to gain a new activation code etc.
For the record, I have deleted Tomtom from my old XDA2!!
I hope this helps!

I had a similar error on the XDAII. Creating an empty file called CurrentMap.dat in \MyDocuments\TomTom (create the Directory if neccessary) solved the problem on my device
Topic moved to Universal section.
if you download and install 5.2 from tomtom it should go straight across forget using the disc
sorted
sorted with 5.2 but still needed to input voices manaually but working fine
Tom Tom will not load
I am trying to load TomTom 5 from an upgrade pack which I bought from TomTom including all maps. This worked fine with my XDA11i so long as I copied the application CD to my hard disc but doesn't work with the Exec. I get "The application at 0x004088C3 referenced memory at 0x00000000. The memory could not be "written"". I have tried installing the 5.21 download, which installs OK on my XDA11i but says "cannot connect to your device" on my exec.
I can't find any CAB files on the disc I have. They are all zip files and if I open the zips they contain files of .001 format or similar
Tomtom are no help at all as they say the exec is not on the list of compatible machines

Anyone got TomTom 5 working with Windows Mobile 5?
I received my k-Jam this morning but the setup.exe bombs out so I cannot get TT5 installed at all
any help appreciated!
thanks
Try to install the .cab file instead, it should work.
thanks but I have tried that. 3 of the 4 CAB files install but the main one (ttn.cab) - looks like its going to install ok and then you get "the file....installation was unsuccesful".
Any ideas?
Nothing on the TT site - I'm surprised that X51v or other early Windows Mobile 5 users have not been onto this one?
It seems like a problem with Activesync 4.0 initially but as the cab files don't work i guess we need a patch from them?
anyone got it working?
thanks
TomTom 5 install Problem
I had the same problem with the auto run procedure on my mini SD card.
I solved the problem by navigating to the '2577' folder and running each cab file directly on the phone (didnt use activesync). This seemed to work for me.
However, now Im having trouble with bluetooth com ports. Tomtom configuration does not show the port numbers assigned to my paired gps reciever.
Try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=29282&highlight=tt5+kjam+qtek+wm5
Let me know how well tt5 runs on the k-jam ie how smooth etc as i'm awaiting my miniSD so can't try it yet!
TomTom Navigator 5.10 works with Windows Mobile 5 and Activesync 4 - but it's NOT easy. The instructions in this thread got it working for me (though I used COM4 instead of COM0):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=28386
Also I found that the bluetooth GPS had to be locked on to a signal for TomTom to see it at first - was fine after that.
Although my device is a HTC Universal, it has the same OS and Activesync version as your Wizard so there's no reason why it shouldn't work. Go to the above link and enjoy

I had the same problem. All cabs would install except the ttn cab. Here's how I solved it.
1. uninstall everything
2. install gps.cab
3. remove sd card and soft reset (this is the important bit)
4. install ttn.cab and this time it should work
Thanks for your help guys.
sl9; How did you get 5.1 to upgrade? After copying the files from the downloaded RAR file I tried to run the setup.exe file on the phone but get a message telling me that the file is not a valid windows mobile program (perhaps it is a smartphone program).

The setup.exe is meant to be run on your PC, it uses activesync. Obviously we know this doesn't work so the solution is to get the 5.10 upgrade from TomTom website as the ZIP FILE, NOT THE EXE - this is important
Anyway, extract the zip, and copy the directory with the 4 cab files in it to your SD card (where you have the map on). Then execute the cabs one by one, using the tip by jdee246 above if any of the cabs don't want to install.
After you install it, then the fun begins trying to get the damn thing to recognise your GPS device, see the link in my earlier post for a guide
Thanks guys - the soft reset seemed to do it. The manual install worked fine in the end.
I now have to wait for TomTom support to give me a code as I already had two a few months back so I can't report on how well it runs yet. Overall tho the Wizard/k-Jam is pretty slow - esp for screen refreshes.
I did try the BAKONL hack which I use to test TomTom on various devices but the ttn.cab on that patch just will not install for me under Win Mob 5.

Thanks to all for your help.
Managed to get Tomtom 5.1 up and running. 5.1 seems to have fixed the gps connectivity problem.
The software runs on the K-JAM just as fast as it did on my QtekS110, with no problems yet.

Thanks for your help.....
Who had install Tomtom 5 on the K-jam ?
Because it's too hard for me and I don't understand everything .... :?
Thanks for your help !!!!
In total you have to copy 4 files from your wm2003 device and paste to wm2005 in these dir:
mobile device\tomtom\CurrentMap.dat
\TomTom\TomTom\data05.bmp (voice files on cd)
\TomTom\TomTom\data05.chk (voice files on cd
\Program Files\navigator\data.chk
\Program Files\navigator\tomtom navigator.exe
\Program Files\navigator\navigator.cfg
that's all.
data05.bmp and .chk is for example, you can choose one of your own voices.
Look this up on your device other wise i send you my files so you can try them.
Good Luck

T-Mobile MDA Compact
Hi Guys
I seem to also be having problems with my MDA.
I can install tom-tom just fine, but for some reason it just doesnt recognise my Bluetooth GPS receiver. The receiver brand & model is as per this page:
http://www.qstarz.com/html/products_BT-Q770.htm
I have enabled COM 4 & 5 in the bluetooth settings page and configred tomtom to connect using either com4 or com5 but it just doesnt work.
Any help in solving this problem would be much appreciated!
Many Thanks!
This for all of you who are still having problems...
This is what i did to get my Tomtom working on my T-mobile MDA Compact:
1. uninstall tomtom using add/remove programs.
2. using file explorer deleted the following folders:
\tomtom
\program files\navigator
\program files\contacts navigation
3. Using a registry editor - browse the software sub-folders of HKEY_CURRENT_USER and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and delete any tomtom, tomtom navigator, and/or tomtom gps/ tomtom bluetooth supprt folders.
(in order to avoid steps 1,2,3 you can also perform a hard reset after you have backed up all your data & files)
4. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> DRIVERS -> BUILTIN -> BTINSerial
5. Now change the index key from 4 to 6.
6. Exit the registry editor.
7. Soft reset your MDA.
8. Now install TTN5
9. After following the initial setup prompts of TTN5 exit it.
10. Now install tomtom nav. 5.1 (update available from the tomtom website)
11. Go back into tomtom and select "change preferences"
12. Go into GPS CONFIGURATION
13. Select Other Bluetooth
14. Select COM5
15. Click Done
16. Give tomtom about 10 seconds and your GPS navigation should now work OK!!!!
Hope this helps everyone who is trying to get this to work. I have spent a lot of time trying to find a solution that works and this i feel is it!
Needless to say use this solution at your own risk - all i can say is that its worked for me!
once installed, use this procedure.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=32267
It works 100%

ttn.CAB won't install despite reset
Tried installing TT5.0 on my Vario, but no luck. Like posted before, it won't install ttn.CAB. I tried:
removing all TT files, also from registry
soft reset,
installing gps.CAB,
remove SD,
soft reset,
then install ttn.CAB
but it still says 'installation failed'. Aaarrrggghhhhh
Any ideas, anyone?

Hallo,
It's not possible to install maps trough .cab files.
TT has to install map related lines in the .exe file, .doc file and in the reg.
So you have to install trough setup.
Succes, Hannes 8)
Use a card reader.
Or you could install the maps to a local folder on the PC and then copy the directory over via activesync.

can you give us a step by step process. and what versions of TT have you used ?
I installed tom tom 5.1 copying .cab files in the jasjar, then I copied the italy_plus folder in the jasjar and the program acknowledges the map ... but it asks for the activation code, saying that i must insert the disposal code (shown by the program) in a tom tom site mask. I tried but the site says that the disposal code is wrong.
I Got my TT5 working on the K-Jam! (Partially) This is what I did:
1 - TT5 did not istall properly over active sync - So I installed all of the CAB filed to my Storage Card and installed directly on the divice (I belive there are 4 files + get 1 voice file by searching the CD) I belive some the files are named ttn, GPS, etc)
2 - I emailed TomTom support and sent them a copy of my card so they can allow me to Re-activate my account (Belive they needed a copy of the card/cd, invoice of purchase and device invoice -- u can scan them , attached them, to a word file and email it to them). My code originally activated for my JAM (diff device code).
3 - I used the TomTom Map software to install the map to my PC. Then I copied the folder to my devices card via active sync
4 - when I started the TT5 -- it asked me for the activation code (which I got through ttcode.com)
5 - I activate the GPS control panel on Windows 5.0 (instructions I found on this site)
That is as far as I have gotten -- I am trying to figure out how to LINK the GPS to the K-Jam -- TomTom only lists a few coms open, but not one that the Blue Tooth lists.
Once I Figure it out -- I will post again!
Email me if you have any questions.
Hoped this helped!

(apologies for putting this on news forum originally)
Hi
get the 5.2 update from tomtom, install it, copy the voice files from you
v5 cd to tomtom dir in root "/", copy the maps to your mmc.
it worked for me
was the 5+5.1 known to not work then?
I had the same problems
Could not install from cd either whereas had no problems with my xda2-managed to use updat 5.2 but could not activate software via the gprs connection. ihad to get anew activation code from tom tom. this worked. i don't think version 5 is as good as version 3 and i wish i hadn't upgraded as not only are there more errors on the maps but it takes my new xda a lot longer to connect to the gps receiver.we found loads of mistakes when using the new version 5 on the xda2 in the summer when touring tom tom kept taking us to roads whichwere still under construction and couln't be used. we did tell support about this but i don't find them particularly helpful

my v5 cd crashed the computer when useing active sync 4.x same with 5.1. update....
5.2 installed ok.
I have a O2 XDA II mini s and Tomtom Naviagator 5 software. I am using a Tomtom BT GPS Reciver.
When I try installing the software I get the Windows Error Box.
Can anyone give me a straight forward solution to this problem, I have trawled through just about every forum I can find to no avail.
Its driving me nuts please help!
The solution is simple really.
tomtom 5.00 is apparently not compatable with wm5... well it is just not off the CD.
You have a choise either you direct to the cd "pocket pc" and copy the zip/cab files over to your phone and install it from your phone. Then you install maps onto your hard disk and copy them to a storage point.
OR
d/l tomtom 5.** about .20 currently, install that then you will still have to copy the voice from the voice directory on the CD tp the storage on your phone and will still have to do the same with the maps.
if you want you b.t. gps to work I found to copy the gps cab file and install from the phone.
it all works very well even 5.00 but like I said you cant install from the CD.
its a pain, hope this helps
Ive Tried copying the following cab files
D:\tomtom\nveur\pocketpc\gps.zip
D:\tomtom\nveur\pocketpc\PIMMAddin.zip
D:\tomtom\nveur\pocketpc\ttn.zip
D:\tomtom\nveur\pocketpc\wizard.zip
Ive installed them on my phone but i cant find the application to launch Tomtom.
Ive also tired download the update and installing the cab files, i have the same problem with that.
Am i missing anything?
Im thinking of getting ALK CO-Pilot has anyone had any problem installing it to a Wizard.
just remove it and try d/l 5.21 off the tt website.
install it from your PC not as cab.
Also you may need to install your today cab, but this is not a normal thing. also you may have to send off for a new activation code if you used tt5 on another phone.
good luck and you will have the same problem with co-pilot as it also designed for wm2003/se so stick with tomtom.
look in the jamin section there is a post i put in about solving this problem
Firstly hello i,m new here and have just purchased a, htc tytn and i love it but i,m sort of new to ppc .
Anyway i,ve just got this , v6 plus Maps - 108.92M & Maps v6.6 - 182.29M basically its TTN V6 GB Install will this work on the tytn ?.
Now i have searched the forum for a while for installation guides for putting this onto my ppc but all i have come up with is mostly gps reciever stuff .
I,m not quite sure about this but i have a 2gb card do i put this in my storage card and just set it up from there ,and what would i do with the maps folder i have or should i ask were it all goes ?.
Appreciate any help and thanks in advance mik.
Do you have all that on CD or have you downloaded files?
Mike

Mmmmm. We could end up in some bother if we guide you through setting up copied versions of commercial software!
So just in general terms CDs normally have a file called "setup" or "install" (or other similar .EXE file) that you run on the PC. If the application is one that will end up on a PPC device then you would have that connected via usb to your computer. Typically running the install file will then open options to setup the program on your device.
In some cases on the CD you might find a .CAB file. This you would use Active Syncs "Explorer" button to navigate to your PPCs storage card and move the CAB file across. Then on your PPC you would navigate to the CAB file and tap on it to install.
Regarding where to put Map files. My tomtom folder is on my storage card root directory. That is therefore where I put the map file. (NOT in the tomtom folder but on the root directory of the storage card. Map files for tomtom typically have names like GB_Plus_major_Roads_...... Do not rename it or else tomtom won't find it.
Mike
Hiya mike i gave it up as i thought the files could be corrupt or maybe dwnloaded from somewhere and did,nt want to ruin my phone with corrupt files .
I,m sure i,ll be seeking your or other members help in the future as i,m kinda new to ppc file transfers and what you can do with this grt phone .
Once again thanx for your input
