Morning All,
I am having a few problems...
How do you do a hard reset? I returned a buggy one to O2 yesterday and get a new one plus I wanted to take advantage of the £50 trade in deal. I didn't hard reset coz I couldn't and I now have O2 active UI on this new one which I do not want to use and the only way I think I can turn it off is by resetting and starting again and using a different profile. Also anyone who has taken advantage of the trade in deal, please advise if you got the trade in value in store or you are being sent a cheque. As I am being sent a cheque!!!
Many thanks
mini hard reset
.... to do a hard reset on the XDA Mini S:
Hold "Comm Manager" button (top left side) and "Voice Command" button (top right side) down together and simultaneously press the reset button (middle right side)
I used an upgrade to get my XDA Mini; so didn't do the trade-in. At first I was quoted £150 to upgrade; but after a bit of haggling I managed to persuade the O2 shop to do the upgrade for free; which was more appealing price.
Thanks for that.
I have tried that reset method worked once but now doesn't work now and I really want to get rid of the O2 Active UI.
Cheers
No, really, it does work - try again, and note that you have to hold em down for a while until the text appears. See the wiki.

Hi There,
I've just bought second hand O2 XDA IIi and I'd like to reset the settings into the default new one or the factory setting.
can anyone tell me how to do it, because when I was using Nokia 6600, pressing *#7370# would restore it settings.
Thanks in advance.
On the XDA II (Not i) all you have to do is hold the power button and push the reset one on the bottom with your stylus.
I don't know if it's the same for the IIi.
Thank It works.
this topic now should be closed :-D
Just as in the subject! I tried everything: soft, hard reset, removing batery, removing simcard, waiting for upto 20 mins staring at t-mobile screen. Nothing seems to work. I can see t-mobile white starting screen withIPL,SPL,GSM,OS versions and that is it. If I am lucky - waiting cursor appears.
This is the second time it happened, previousely I managed to turn it on after 30 mins of struggle. Not this time though.
I am affraid that if I - hopefully - turn it on this time and the battery runs out of power I will be left without a handset!
Absolutely no damage, no dropping, virtually new. Any ideas?
You said you tried hardreset? So, you actually sees the screen that said, "to restore to factory setting press Send", then it said formatting ROM etc.., right? If after hardreset you still have the problem, I would suggest that you send your handset back to them to have it fix. Where are you now? (better if you would have your country and network operator logo set for this forum, so that people can advise you based on your location/operator)
I had my MDA Compact 2, which works for 2 weeks before the speaker died off. Then, after I sent to them to fix, they've got the speaker done, but the entire unit now works .. weirdly. Thats is whenever I had the speaker on, the entire unit will heat up so much that, the battery meter will go down-stream even I have the AC power attached (good for a hand warmer though). Anyway, I sent the thing back to them, and they sent it back to me, with the note "change of the circuit board" (something like that), which I think it is a serious problem that I don't think anyone can fix. Good thing is that my unit is still under warranty, costed me a GBP10 for the postage, but I'm happy that I have it working in full order now.
I wonder if your problems are similar to mine.

This means that I did not try hard reset then. Holding the power button+stylus reset does nothing more than soft reset. It just goes dark and reboots.
I am in UK on T-Mobile. I think I will go to the shop I bought it in and demand replacement. Pity I loose all data... But I would do hardresetting anyway...

According to the manual: hold power and tap reset with a stylus! Page 79, "To perform a hard reset". Do they know what they sell?
Anyway, thanks! It worked, it did start now. I will check everything now.

Apparently not, that part is for the original MDA Compact on WM2003SE.

Ok, Ive got a new problem with my XDA Exec.
Opened it up and tryied to turn on the backlight and nothing. tried a soft reset, nothingtried a hard reset now it just sticks on the splash screen, the red writing comes up on the right and side and just hangs there forever!
Please help
You're stuck. apparently the only remedy is turning it in to repair. For most of us it is under warranty.
Just off the phone to 02. Theres sending me a new one via courier on monday. it's less than a day old.
Is this a comon fault with the Exec?
erm ... I managed to experience this problem.
I was trying to uninstall SPB GPRS thingy that comes with the O2 package, and it just wouldn't go. I ended up deleting the program files and getting an error when it started up, so I deleted the GPRSNotify file under Startup. It never worked again ...
I got the splash screen, tried soft and hard resetting and various permutations (including standing on one leg and while holding breath) ... nothing. Did try to install fresh ROM, but startup wouldn't get far enough to let PC load ROM over USB.
Ended up contacting O2 who sent me a nice shiny new one, as it was only three weeks old. This time I haven't installed GPRS monitor thingy, and I don't intend to fiddle with it again ... or at least until I've forgotten my lesson ...
Sorry i ment to give you guys an update on this. I did manage to get it working again, although i still accepted the new one the sent to me.
What i did was installed a new rom off the 02 website. at 1st the computer couldnt see the phone so wot i did was enter what i think was the programming side of the phone. i found the instructions on how to this on the net. i think i pressed the 2 soft keys and the light switch while pressing the reset switch with the stylus (i think that was the buttons but unsure as i cant find the page again) when the screen light up again there was some faint writing on the screen with the word serial or usb. Double clicked on the rom file and 30mins later my phone was revived.
Funny it was the gprs monitor that i too installed before the phone screwed up? ive since installed it again on the new phone and have had no problems with it since.

I've just gotten my T-Mobile MDA Pro, and i am very happy with it
however, a few things
1. How do i hard reset? being my first WM5 pda, i cant find how to hard reset (total factory reset) the thing...
2. How do i get out of ozVGA?!?? in the last 5 mins i just set it to true vga... how do i get back to normal? soft reset wont work, just keeps rebooting to true VGA... kinda panicking at the moment...
Help would be much appreciated on this one...
<edit>
omg... breath... i have sorted the VGA problem... man i am sweating buckets now
See, ive wanted a Universal ever since the rumours started nearly 2 years ago... and now i have one i nearly brick it in the same day... and the problem in the end was me being a dumbass and not reading the readme

Google!
If you must know, press and hold the backlight (lightbulb) button and use the stylus to press the reset button. Hold the backlight until you get a menu with three options. Use the dpad up button to move from item to item, use the down button to select yes or no. Set Clean Registry and Format Storage to YES and press the middle dpad button to reboot. This also works for the QTEK 9100

PS please use helpful topic titles, and you'll get help much faster.
Hi, thanks for the info.
sorry about the title, I was kinda preoccupied with my malfunctioning PDA... and I guess I should've used the search, too...
But you got VGA working right?
I wasn't sure if you needed any further help on that...

I just got a Nexus 7 today to replace my iPad 1st Gen. Happy to be making all my phones and tablets Android-based.
However, I'm encountering a very strange issue with my power button. It seems to work as a hard reset ONLY, and not as a select button for any reason. I can not use it to turn off screen in Android, nor can I use it to select Yes in the Unlock Bootloader screen. However, if I hold it down for 5+ seconds, it does hard reset the device.
I'd really like to keep this and not have to go through the hassle of exchanging it back to GameStop tomorrow. Anyone have any advice or heard of this issue before? I couldn't find any precedent on XDA or through Google, and I figured y'all would know if anyone would

Lmao it is odd because if it works for hard reboot, then the button isn't broken but it can't logicly be right if it doesn't work in fastboot/bootloader :/ Go exchange it I guess
I think u should return it to get new one....
Couldn't make it work, I did return it and the new one is working as planned. Thanks for the help, folks! Really enjoying this one with an actual working power button
