add the following key to the registry:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Keys\40C8
and create values just like another key (i.e. 40C5)
soft-reset and then you are able to program the button.

Can anyone expand to his instructions please. Did anyone tried to remap their backlight button yet?

I just tried and it works. Copy the complete key for 40C5 and call it 40C8. Choose a different name for the button (e.g. 'Button Light').
I guess we could rename all buttons the same way so we could actually have a clue which buttons they were when we were programming them.
Thanks for the tip, MvanIperen

Makes me wonder which other key actions we could capture with this registry key. Would all these buttons respond to a press-and-hold? Anybody know how to achieve that?
The key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Keys\40C4 refers to the press-and-hold action of the notes button, but I can't tell what in the key makes this different behaviour from the press-once action for the same button (key 40C5). Maybe it's just the name of the key. 40C4 is always press-and-hold for that button and 40C5 is press-once. Maybe it's in the hardware this way.
Or does someone know differently? How did MvanIperen know that 40C8 refers to the backlight button? What's at 40C6 and 40C7? 40C9?
Answers below please
Thats an absolutely fantastic find. I wonder if we can actually map individual keys to different functions. Now that would be simply superb!!!
40C1-Contacts
40C2-Video Telephony
40C3-Camera
40C4-Voice Recorder
40C5-Speed Dial
40C6-???
40C7-???
40C8-Backlight (now added)
40C9-???

I have pm'd MvanIperen. Hopefully, he will join us soon. Look forward to his input in this...

Sorry guys,
I've been trying to map various buttons, and keys but with no result so far.
Will let you know when I find out something new.
Brilliant!
I've mapped the backlight to WA2's new "Toggle Screen" program, and now my backlight button does what I've always thought it should have done in the first place.
Many thanks!
Hey,
Thanks for trying Ivan. We look forward to any input from you. Just one question though, how did you manage to figure this bit out?
Cheers.

I found this by luck, using pocket artist. The backlight key was mappable to an action, and it gave the code C8. The rest was just deducting from registry. Sorry not to have posted this in a proper thread, I was busy at work.
Guess I should have had to get the bell and whistle

1. install PHM Regedit (or any other registry editor)
2. go down to this location HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Keys
3. create a key "40C8"
4. Go to the key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Keys\40C5
5. Select all values under that key and copy it
6. Paste it under the new key "40C8" you just created in step 3
7. rename it to suit a readable name like "Backlight"
8. Softreset using some app like psShutXP or pocket plus (and NOT using the hole)
8. now, you can configure this button as u do normally (for the rest of the buttons)

THANKS VERY MUCH TO YOU AND EVERYONE WHO POSTED. I GOT IT WORKING. YAHOOOOOOO!
Basically, I now get the idea of how to assign these. Thus, we can also assign "press and hold" functions to button 1, 2, and 3, by simply copying the files off 40C4 and renaming "button 4" to either 1, 2, or 3, depending which button we want the "press and hold" function.
Now if only we can reassign "press and hold" functions to any key. That would be something really to celebrate.

Which is the calendar button?
Left side next 2 green phone key. Also programs the screen calendar button to the bottom left of screen.
I have tried to search this forum for a solution, but got somehow lost in all the posts. I know about those great applications like e.g. smartkey etc. but if I do want to assign only the "Memory/Running programs List" menu to a hardware button, is there any easier solution (e.g. using some registry adjustments)?
Thanks
O.
Make a shortcut exactly as follows:
ctlpnl.exe cplmain.cpl,4,2
Save it as VJForgetMeNot.lnk
Go to Settings > Personal > Buttons
and assign VJForgetMeNot.lnk to a hardware key.
Check here for how to change the icon:

Hey Folks,
do someone of you know how to change the softkeys on TF3D? I want to use on of these for MS Voice command. Now there is the left softkey set to Telephone and the right one to Programms.
Use registry editor.
Go to \HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila
Change Left Softkey Path and Text:
HomeLSKPath
HomeLSKText
Change Right Softkey Path and Text:
HomeRSKPath
HomeRSKText

I changed settings/buttons to MS Voice Command...the only one available on the HD is "long press" of the answer button. It works fine to activate MS Voice command.

Hi, I tried this with the calender but I wasn't succesful. I can change the softkey name but the program didn't start. I used different values for HomeLSKPath (\Windows; \Windows\calender.exe) but got only error messages. Maybe I did something wrong?! Can you help me?
Many thanks in advance
Is there a way to change the Hardware-Keys? (Today, Enter)

I think you are looking for a program like "action screen". Try searching for it! Its from Fabliv and the newest version is the v6.

Yes,
You must soft reset.
Thanks a lot,
I did a soft reset (turn off-turn on). I also see the changed name (from Telefon into Kalender; it's a german version).
But:
If I press the soft key I get a warning, that the program has a unvalid security certificate or could not find or parts of the programm are missing (if I use \Windows\calender.exe). Further ideas what my problem is?
Thanks
Turn off then turn on is not a soft reset. Remove the back cover and poke into the reset hole is one way to do it.

Ok, I thought turn off and turn on is like a reboot of the phone. I use the reset you suggest but I got the same error message.

please check the path andprogram that you have linked to the softkey. Try running that program from start/program and see if the problem is there.
Thanks a lot eaglesteve!
Your advice to put the program into the program tab of tf3d was the solution. Thus I found the regestry entry and also the correct link I have to use. To my surprise it was linked to \Windows\Startmenü\Kalender.lnk and not to the direct exe file in the Windows root folder. After using this path it worked immediately. Btw without any reset!
Change Softkey zu "Sync Data"
Hi,
in TF3D - settings there is the first item "sync data" (in german Daten synchronisieren - Acticesync und Internetdaten), which start directly the synchronisation whis my Exchange-Server.
I would like to put this on my left Softkey instead of "Telefon", but I don't know, which *.exe oder whatever I have to chose therefore.
Does somebody have an idea?

Hello,
try this one for the Pathvalue: \Windows\Startmenü\Programme\ActiveSync.lnk
Good luck.
Thank you very much, but it is not the right Solution, yet.
This opens the ActiveSync Screen, but starts not automatically the synchronisation process.
Maybe there's missing an additional option like ...ActiveSync.lnk -option ?
Just wanted to thank you all for the information; worked perfectly (linked the start menu .lnk item).
dear sir,
understand that you are a expert on fuze, may i ask you a tweak that may be u can help me.
after i press the lower left "phone pick up" key, the phone will change to a dial pad page, i would like to change the left soft key from "video call" call to "contact" is there any tweak can do that?
thanks in advance

Advanced Config Tool (and other key mapping tools) generally don't affect the softkeys in the Dialler.
There is a registry key that should change Video Call back to Contacts:
HKLM\Software\HTC\PHONE\LSKContact
Change the DWORD value to 1
Or use the cab in THIS POST, which does pretty much the same thing
I need help in disabling vibration when using the keyboard. I've tried to look for it in the forums and in the device settings but did not find anything. There is no personalization in the Settings tab.
I know the setting is in there somewhere. A search for "vibrate typing" turned up amongst others:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=588026
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=630388&highlight=vibrate+typing
I guess you'll find the answer in both of those threads.

thanks for the links! but i think the HD2 US that i have does not have that remove vibration option in the settings. i tried to look for that option in all the settings but i could not find it. if it's there, then i definitely need to have my eyes checked.
Im running a generic HTC ROM on my T9193 model; go to the Settings tab (in Sense), then Personalize, then Vibration
Using Resco Registry go to
Hkey Local Machine > Software > HTC > ezsip
Add a new DWORD Value string and call it "VibrationEnabled" (without the quotes) and give it a value of 0.
Soft reset and BAM!
But this is with Resco Registry, with another reg edit program, i am not sure what kind of string you are adding, hopefully it is still called DWORD.

This is really useful, especially because it turns off only keyboard vibration. Thank you very much!
If anyone is still having issues with this problem there is an easier way without messing around with the registry. From any screen hit the Windows button to the right of the home button on the phone itself, not the touchscreen. Then find the "settings" icon and tap that. Next you will see a "personalize" tab and tap it, at the very bottom of those options you will see a "vibration" tab, tap that and you will be taken to a screen that allows you to change the settings for the keyboard, simply uncheck the box, tap done and your all set

I'm using the NRG ROM, and those instructions don't make any sense to me. Also, be aware that the stock TMOUS ROM (as I recall, I didn't use it long), does not give access to the standard "Settings" icon except via the Sense tab.

You are correct, on a stock ROM if I remember right you have to go to Settings>Menu>All Settings>Personal>Imput I think it has been a little while since I used any Windows Mobile ROMs now.
Registry hack worked for me.
Would be interesting to determine impact on battery life.
TMOUS-Sense Vibration Settings
This is an old thread but there was a recent reply. For the T-Mobile HD2 with a stock ROM amd/or the Sense overlay, go to the Settings tab, select Personalize, select Vibration and then uncheck the box. However, this did not turn off vibration for the Swype keyboard.
If you have another ROM, then these settings may not be available via this method. BSB Tweaks has settings to turn off/on vibration for HTC apps and calculator vibration. Of course, the registry editing will work. I have found the Resco registry editor to be easy and useful.
