i have a dodgy copy of tomtom 5.2 but couldn't activate the map.
what should i do, i already have a tom tom gps reciever
please help
Pay the money to tomtom. Works well for me
Another vote for TomTom here. You could try 5.1, but its more hassle to get it installed and working than 5.2...

have been struggling to load tomtom on my XDA Ex. On the occasions it has run, there was no link for GPS receiver and on occassions was getting a fizzy image. Any help out there from someone who has managed to load this
tomtom 5.21 is not for PDA, but for smartphone or WM2005.
you need to install tomtom NAVIGATOR 5.10

I'm running version 5.21 (5430) for PocketPC with GPS driver v1.20 on an XDAIIi.
I loaded tt5.21 on my fathers exec last night, I am assumiing you are using a BT gps receiver? If so then make sure you pair the gps BEFORE loading on tt5.21, then go to comms manager and select gps device in bt settings, then set it to outgoing and assign com 0 to it. then start up tt5.21 and select other bt gps, then select com 0. that is how I got it to work. Under ver 5 it wold not do anything at all, even though either version works fine on my 2i !!!! But 5.21 works just fine on the exec.
Tomtom Now Working
Thanks guys for your contributions. I now have Tomtom Version 5.21 on my XDA Exec.
This has been after so many hours of frustration and browsing the web to find the solution after I got the phone.
I have installed a cracked version which worked after trying so many cracked version which I had found on the net.
I now believe that some of the cracked ones have got some files corrupt or misssing because I dont see why they were not working.
Now I love my phone.
My qustion is with this cracked version WOULD I be able to access TomTom WHETHER AND TRAFFIC ? OR THIS IS A NO GO AREA?
Would the TomTom website know that mine is not a legit copy?
@ two4one
The cracked versions are recognised as being cracked and don't work with updates etc....
To avoid hastles with this site lets not mention warez, I'm not squeaky clean myself, but it can cause problems for the site developers and so on.
Glad you're happy with it though.
TomTom Navigator V5.210
I Too am running TTN Version 5.210 on an XDA IIi
hi, got an exec and been using it for a year now and still loving it as of october i am going to be driving a taxi so, wondered what peoples advice would be, is the exec reliable and usable enough to use as sat nav for my taxi? iv trawled through the forum and read lots about the tom tom issues and im wondering whether or not to just buy an independant tom tom device and keep my exec free as as phone? i will be using my o2 bluetooth headset whilst driving and will need to be able to take calls on it.
also if you think i should stay true to my exec and tomtom her up, any suggestions on where to buy from and best gps unit etc? seen THIS on ebay, was going to use a copy of my mates tom tom but, thinking maybe it would be more reliable to just buy a genuine copy????
many thanks in advance
Hi bobby,
To be honest Tomtom works perfectly on the XDA Exec. I have a MDA Pro(T-mobile version) and i have no problems. At first there were some problems with trying to setup the bluetooth gps recievers with tomtom but that was before version 5.21 was released.
Using the phone at the same time as running tomtom is easily done. the gps reciever does not interfere with a bluetooth headset whatsoever. I have a sony erricsson HBH-300 bluetooth headset with my MDA Pro and i always take calls while using tomtom.
As it goes with the retail version of tomtom the only difference you will get is that you will have the option to subscribe to live traffic updates.
The item you have seen in ebay looks quite good. i have the same gps reciever as that deal which i know is really good but as for the holder you may want to consider getting a holder specific for the Exec as you may want to put it in landscape mode when not using tomtom.
Here are a couple of options for you for the GPS holders and recievers:

Hope this helps you, if you would like a couple of pictures of my setup please let me know.
Been using TomTom on T-Mobile MDA Pro for 9 weeks...upgraded from HP iPAQ 6515 and loving it!!!!!
The screen quality is far superior and it works like a charm
I've been using both TomTom and iGo on my Qtek9000, they work very well. I think I prefer iGo, but it's just a matter of taste I guess.
Make sure to get version 5.21 of TomTom, otherwise a bluetooth GPS reciever won't work.
hi, I use my universal, mda pro, as a sat nav and it works perfectly no issues whatsoever. I'm running tt5.21 with map of uk plus v632 the gps reciever is holux gpslim 236 which is brilliant I highly recommand this one as to the mount I have pdahut holder which does its job but there is 2 probs with it..putting the device in and out of the mount involves two hands and the stability. plus the mount is passive one. all after all is a good combination I'm very happy with it. I cannot comment on using bt headset cos I m not using yet but I am experiencing huge lags answering the phone while navigating..I use wired headset that came with the universal.
cheers, cudo
muchos gracias senors 8) thought i was gonna have to go and fork out for a whole new unti for a moment
ps. 'itwasntme' if you could mail me a pic or two of your set up il be forever in your debt mate
Good evening,
I Have a Ipaq 1940 PDA with windows mobile 3. On the site of Igo thay say that IGO works on this PDA. I have also TOMTOM and this works fine but IGO will not find mij GPS Module( a tomtom gps Bluetooth Module).
Does anybody know what to do about it
Blaauw
Sorry blaauw, I can't help, but I'm interested in where you can buy I-Go as I'm looking for an alternative to upgrading my TomTom to v6 for my Universal. Their website doesn't seem to offer a buy facility.

Personally I wouldn't do that as a UK resident. IGO is very pretty and has nice features, but compared to Tomtom it's routing abilities leave a lot to be desired. I've currently got both IGO and Tomtom on my Universal.
IGO can be fun, because I drive a 4x4 and I like thundering down tiny tracks half covered in mud, but for the majority of time in sat nav use, I want to use real roads.
IGO is king in some countries where Tomtom has poor or non-existant coverage, but in the UK considering IGO as an upgrade to Tomtom will leave you dissapointed.
Check your GPS settings, IGO cannot see the GPS if it is set to COM0:, COM1 - 8 should be OK.
Hi guys, I just got my XDA Mini S yesterday and LOVE it!.. I was just wondering though, if I install Tom Tom on it will it cost me money on gprs or whatever it uses when calculating a route? I'm pretty new to all this gps and pda phones etc..
thanks!
No, no extra charges, all free.
To install TomTom you have to buy the software and by a GPS receiver. They are the only 2 costs.
The routes are calculated by the software from the maps that you have bought from TomTom and there are no data charges.
Enjoy.
hi thanks for the lightning quick replies. By a GPS receiver do you mean my actual phone??
Your phone will run the TomTom software, but you need something that talks to the GPS satellites, this is the GPS device. This tell the TomTom software where in the world you are by tracking satellites.
Check out this site for a introduction to GPS..... http://www.howstuffworks.com/gps.htm
As the for GPS device you have to buy, I use a Holux GPSlim 236..... http://www.holux-uk.com/Products/gpslim236/index.shtml.
You can pick these up on many websites and Ebay.
Hope the info helps
What is the most reliable Sat Nav software for MDA Vario II? I have been looking at Garmin Mobile XT or Co-Pilot 7
Just wondered about any reccomendations?
Any comments would be much appreciated
people report various success with different software depending on where they are in the world for map covering and updates
fair point, well I'm in the UK so does anyone know the best ones for UK coverage?
Thanks
I'm in the UK and use Tom Tom on my Touch Diamond, it works really well. Have only just got myself a Hermes (£25) so have yet to try any sat nav software on, yet.....
TomTom
I've used TomTom software on all the following devices with excellent results:
- SPV M500 (Magician)
- SPV M3100 (Hermes)
- HTC Touch HD (Blackstone)
IGO 7 works like charm on my hermes.
Cheers
what version of Tom Tom is reccomended? I have Windows Mobile 6
Thanks
The Tomtom ripped from the tytn II is OK, Tomtom 7. You do need to purchase the maps though...
Can anyone confirm that TomTom 6 works on the Hermes?
or what is the best version to run and why?
Thanks
I can confirm both tomtom 6 & tomtom 7 both work fine on hermes.
For tomtom 7 you can get the more recent maps, but it requires more ram to run. When I was running a m2d rom I had tomtom 7 close randomly on me a few times. No problems if you have more than about 15MB ram free though.
I like Tomtom 7, have no problem running it on my Jasjam... As I said though, you need to purchase the maps. The best things in life don't always come for free...
