I'm the proud owner of a new Qtek 9100!
I would just like to know what in your humble opinion are the essential apps to install on the device, the version, where to download/purchase, and of course why its so great!
I am already aware of TCMP and skype What about the plastic screen protectors is that necessary?
thanks in advance.
screen protectors i've always used boxwave, expensive but very good. my last one i had on my Axim X30 i had on for over a year and a half. www.boxwave.com

Dean,
Can i install apps in english on a french Qtek ie french rom without bugging the system?
What about antivirus?
Mogwai
Of course you can install softwares in whatever language you want in your french 9100
Antivirus is useless.
PS : si tu as besoin on peut passer en français
Essential apps
for me, 3 are essential apps :
Mort Player -do a search on this forum, and you'll find the link. It is a good and free music player that supports many formats
AvantGo for off-line browsing of pre-configured websites and any other website you want to browse off-line without incurring gprs charges. Look at www.avantgo.com
Pocket Informant - the best information management software for pocketpc - contact, diary, task management etc. Many different views and highly flexible. www.pocketinformant.com
Also a good RSS software that includes today screen functionality called Egress
Hope thsi helps

In Pocket Plus, are repeating alarms working properly for you? I can't get it working, whatever I set in clock&alarms, it overrides pocket plus settings.

Hi,
Installed magic button, 2 times, the first time it didnt seem to work, anyways seems to work, but do i have to go to programs to start the program each time?
It seems at start up and when programs are opened, magic button doesnt seem to work unless i start it first.
thanks
hi, you must go to settings and configure autostart on soft reset, do it
regards
I ve read somewhere else that pocket plus 3 was not compatible with HTC wizard, causing a freez when soft resetting the device. User has to do a hard reset and reinstall all his stuff.
Any of you guys get this behaviour when installing/using pocketplus ?
sorry can you be specific as to where exactly i need to go. settings, personal? i dont see any autostart or softreset option anywhere.

Hi. I'm currently waiting för my Qtek S100 and now I'm interested in what software I should buy to get what's missing in Windows Mobile. I currently use an iPAQ, så I have some knowledge about common programs, but I would like to know what programs are suggested for the phone part of the Qtek. Money is not an issue.

I use

SPB only unzip. Pocket RAR unzip and unrar. RAR has better compression then ZIP. Maybe some prefer RAR rather then ZIP. As for me, i prefer RAR
Nice! Now I have a ton of new stuff to look up and try. If I get my freakin phone!
RAR files are sometimes much smaller than ZIP files, but in the worst case, they become same size as ZIP, but never larger!
RAR is much more better than ZIP, also it does support archive recovery & its possible to fix damaged RAR files easily.

I would add Resco explorer with reg.& ftp plugin, Sprite back-up, PHM mechanic, PHM powertoys & VGS mail (runs imap on your magician, found on this forum). Running airscanner firewall & Trend micro mobile security as well. Testing magic button for really closing apps. I belief spb leaks too much memory. That's personal ofcourse.

Here's the list of my must have's and how to's. To start with, installing the Big Storage ROM will make your device way faster, but ONLY IF you install most of the programs in Storage. This way, your free RAM will be 13Mb Prog/9Mb Storage most of the time!
The list of essential programs I don't do without:
1) SBSH Pocket Breeze: gives a lot of information on the Today screen and is not performance hungry. Very very stable. I installed in Storage.
2) Pocket Max PhoneAlarm: Today plug-in that allows you set profiles and assign MP3 tones to SMS as well.
3) Sprite Backup: Simply the best backup tool that also comes with Sprite Space Detective and a Today Plug-in for battery and memory monitoring. Using this plug-in I saved myself from installing SPB Pocket Plus (I don't want to run programs from a today plug-in, most of them are accessible from the Start menu anyway).
4) TKCreator: a theme editor that allows me to modify themes on the PPC and also select themes stored anywhere on the device without modifying the registry. FREE.
5) PSShutXP: a program that lets you soft-reset the PPC without having to fiddle with the stylus. FREE.
6) TCPMP (Beta Player): for those weird formats that WMP10 does not recognise
7) MemMaid: Mostly useful to delete Internet Cache and Mail attachment. You wouldn't need the Bad Installation clean ups if you stick to only the software you use and the only software that works. When I want to fiddle with some new software I just take a backup before I start and restore if I need to.
8) Microsoft Voice Command: ideal in the car, where I just say "Play ..." or "Call ..." at the press of a button.
9) Modified MS BT stack: at least this stack works properly with my wife's Nokia 6230. A2DP is also welcome with this stack.
10) MobiPocket Reader: a very cool RSS/News reader that I snychronise every morning, thus making my favorite daily readings available off-line any time of the day. (I'm subsribed (FREE) to CNN, BBC News, BBC Tech, The Register, Pocket PC Thoughts, MS Windows Mobile Team Blog, The Times of Malta and Soccer Net.)
Finally, with regards to closing apps as opposed to minimising them (one of the most popular features of SPB Pocket Plus), I found that with plenty of RAM available (after installing all progs to Storage), leaving the apps runnning in the background makes the Magician MUCH MORE responsive.
Since I installed the above setup I never ever had to reset the device. It's the best I ever had. Almost flawless.

I have only two apps running. Spb Pocket Plus and tAgenda. Between the two, I have all the information I need. I prefer to keep my memory useage low, so that when I open those two or three applications, they have lots of memory.
kta: I've searched, but can only find onfo on the Bluesoleil BT stack - not a modified MS stack. Can you please direct us to info on how to do this upgrade.

I am using handyshopper on my Jamin (Prophet) --- also moved from Palm
phoneAlarm (a must with auto-profile changing and notification managment, billing etc.)
interWrite (international keyboard support - only one that works with hardware keyboard Think outside bluetooth)
AEButton Plus (just indespensible with up to 4 actions per button, that's 56 actions at the tips of your fingers; a small problem is remembering them all
Wisbar Advance
Wisbar Advance Desktop (just adds so much to how your ppc is organized and how it looks)
Omapclock (enough said!)
TCMPC (much better than WMP in every possible way)
I also use a bunch of progs I wouldn't call musts, but they are useful-
Resco World Cup 2006
Resco Explorer and Registry add-in
PocketLan

Here's the description
Catalog your collection quickly and easily,
then carry it with you on your Pocket PC or Palm
Collectorz.com and Ilium Software have teamed up to bring you the perfect solution for cataloging your collection and viewing it on your Pocket PC or Palm device. The Collectorz.com programs for Windows let you enter your collection with ease, then Ilium's ListPro software lets you view your collection data while on the road, in the store or at a fair. Never buy duplicates again, you will always know what you own.
About ListPro by Ilium Software
ListPro is a multifeatured list manager for use on your Palm or Pocket PC device. Great for everything from simple to-do lists to a database for your favorite collection. Features include multiple column types, linked fields, alarms, import, export, unlimited note fields and much more. For more info: visit the ListPro website.
Use the Collectorz.com templates for ListPro to view your Collectorz.com data on your mobile device.
The two products are available from collectorz.com and iliumsoft.com/site/lp/listpro.htm
I've tested it out, and it works very well. If you have access to a barcode scanner, you only need to scan your book's barcode, and then you get all the info about the book from websites and inputed in the fields of the program. Amazing time-saving stuff. You can catalogue hundreds of books in less than an hour.
Hi ak123456, here is link to some of the mentioned above programs with discount for forum readers.
Without a doubt, the best app I've found for the Pocket PC is SBSH's PocketBreeze (details here).
It is a Today screen plug-in that makes the default Calendar, Tasks, Contacts and Messaging apps sing by providing an intuitive interface and quick access to features. It can also work with Pocket Informant which I notice you already have. Spb Diary is a copy of PocketBreeze and lacks a lot of the customisation features.
Aside from that, I've tried Spb Pocket Plus and while I found it quite good, it slowed down my device and had more features than I needed. I replaced it with SBSH's iLauncher (details here) which I embed in the PocketBreeze muti-tab interface and find it much leaner and snappier.
Other apps I use are:
- Dinarsoft MemMaid
- Dinarsoft Handyswitcher
- SBSH's PocketWeather
- Resco Explorer.
agree on PocketBreeze but nothing on Notes
PocketBreeze is by far the best application (after 10 years of Palm, HP, Toshiba, Axim, SPV C500 and now Qtek S200)
Since Notes were uncategorized on PPC, I search for a nice application to organize them. Phatnotes is great but not on my S200. Support says it has to do with security and certificates. After installing it ActiveSync produces an error on synchronization, uninstall and everything is fine again on the best pda I have had so far.
Hi Guys,
I have an i-mate Magician and it worked quite well until someday suddenly the NEW MENU (BUTTON) in the left bottom corner began to hang up my ppc every time i clicked on it.
So if I try to click on the menu NEW in order to create a new task or something else my PPC hangs up and does not react anymore.
After that a soft reset is always needed in order to use the ppc. But NEW MENU would not work!
Your answer is very much appreciated!
Thank you in advance!
Vibe ;-)
Had this probem as well. Tracked it down to Pocket Informant. Reinstalled that one and problems were gone.
If you have any third party softwares to create a new item there, it may also cause the error. Ex: SPB Finance creates a new finance entry thing. But SPB finance never caused the problem. Other softwares o the similar kind may cause the issue.
What all you see there in the new menu?
Hi Guys,
Thank you for your quick posting!
I tried to uninstall PIM and SPB Diary! But it did not help. The Problem still exists.
In my menu there are the following entries:
APPOINTMENT
CONTACT
ExCEL-Worksheet
MESSAGE
NOTE
TASK
WORD-Document
I would very much appreciate your help as I would like to avoid a HARD-RESET as I have installed a lot of programmes, and it would be now very very inconvenient to me to RE-install everything!
(The Last Programmes that I have installed were the last Revision (5) of PIM & SPB Diary! I can imagine that it depends on PIM because with SPB Diary it was working! But how can I uninstall PIM in that way that it is completely away, because I have already uninstalled it and even installed the Rev 4 but it did not help)
Thanks a lot!
;-)
Vibe
PS: FYI I have installed the following programmes
SPB DIARY
BuzzLightyear SwitchIT
AE Software AE Button Plus
Resco Explorer
Microsoft Activation
Microsoft Reader
Cambridge Silicon Radio Ltd. BCHS
Wei's ScreenOff
Adobe Reader for Pocket PC 2.0

ANY Solutions? PLZ!
Vibe!
If you make a hard reset the NEW menu problem still have...
I did a hard reset as well...
SO I don't know what is that problem exactly...
But if you have the spb backup and make a backup from your system, you can make a hard reset, and then run the backup file and you won't lose your programs!
But for my pda, the hard reset didn't work.
If I start my backup file, then it WORKS!
But just a couple hours!
Then always freeze when I click on NEW button. ((
PLEASE HELP ME! IF YOU KNOW ANY SOLUTION!
Thanx a lot!
Best regards,
Zee
Hi Guys!
The mentioned problem of the freezing system when trying to use the NEW BUTTON on the bottom left corner still exists.
Did anyone experience the same problem and may have a solution or an explanation for that!
Thanks a lot in advance,

Hello all,
I've just bought a shiny new Ameo. Overall, I'm very happy with it. The keyboard is a bit of a challenge when your hands cover as much acreage as mine, but im sure i'll get used to its idiosyncratic layout and lack of num lock. in time.
So now i'm thinking about which apps to install.
What do you guys think are the essentials? The apps my ameo shouldn't be without?
cheers!
Tomtom 6
MS Live Search
Voice Command
live search - good shout. installed it.
built in gps; i'm lovin it.
Coreplayer (check the other threads in this forum for how to setup) for DivX/XVid playback.
iGo2006 (instead of TomTom6, it's much better ;-) ).
Avantgo client for News/RSS.
Mobipocket Reader for Books.
Also:
AEB Buttons 2.5.2
WM6 Remote Desktop
Skype
Some that I forgot because I'm so used to them being there:
SPB Diary 2.0
SPB Weather
SPB Time
Skype^^ - definately - the VOIP functions of skype actually work using the Athena, the processor in the Wizard wasn't quite good enough.
I'm surprised nobody mentioned ozVGA or MrTrueVGA.
It HAS to be the first thing you install (I prefer ozVGA), closely followed by VJBigPhone and WA2.
Then of course it all depends on what you do with the device, or intend to do.
I really like coreplayer, Resco Explorer and the reg. edit addon
I wouldn't mind some suggestions for an instant messaging program that handles both MSN messenger and Google talk. IM+ 4.33 and 4.35 keeps crashing for me.
Edit: As for num lock. Yes you can do that. Takes a lilttle fiddling with the special button though. 4 presses in a row to lock the "blue keys", 4 presses to "unlock". A little silly, but you get used to it.
my apps...
- IM+ I'm running this without any issues.
- pRSSreader as it's free. I disable the today plug because it makes my phone run slow and i think sometimes lock up.
- WiFiFoFum.
- WM6 Remote Desktop, much better than the WM5 Remote Desktop client.
- TomTom6
- AE Button Plus
- Magic Button
- Resco Explorer (ftp addon, registry addon and works great to connect to other computers on your network.
- SmallMenu Plus
- Sprite Backup
- Total Commander
- VGA software already mentioned above
- Pocket Informant
- BlueTooth and Wifi icons for tray. Someone posted them to the Athena forum recently.
I want to hear what others have installed also. I want to add more and more and more.
Edit: MortPlayer (just an awesome and FREE audio player)
Best photo editing?
What's the best photo editing software for the Athena/WM5? Just looking for something with a lot of options when editing pictures.

apphoen...thanks a bunch for an excellent tip. iGo 2006 with UK maps is absolutely brill! I much prefer it to TomTom 6 and have already uninstalled from my Ameo. I much prefer the options in iGo but lack the speed camera warnings. Will test it out some more and if all goes well, will probably invest further.
Thanks again for a great heads up.
Apps I cannot live without:
WA2
Resco Explorer 2007 with all plug-ins
TCPMP 0.72RC or Coreplayer
David Andr 'Batti'
AE Button Plus v 2.51
WM6 Remote Desktop
Winmobileapps Call SMS Blocker (but will be trying Spb Phone Suite soon)
WM5torage - must have
SKTools - must have
Resco Pocket Radio v1.60
Resco Photoviewer v6
RARLAB Pocket RAR
Windows Live
Zombienexus WM6 3G Video Calling Dialler skin
Silent Services btIO - normal audio through BT headset
iGo 2006 (just converted from TomTom 6.1)
int13 PacMad (looks sweet on the 5" screen and plays beautifully) as does the following VGA games:
Spb Brain Evolution
Spb Xonix II SA VGA
Real Dice Dominoes, Sudoku Master II & Mahjong
Acky's XP Breakout

I use WA2 but VGA Skins looks ugly oversized......is there a tweak to make it working correctly?
What skin do you use? (QVGA?)

I use the default WA2 skin. Then I just take my favorite tsk and adapt it to VGA (96 dpi), and maybe change a few colors. I don't do to much since the default is nice enough.
I really like the look of iGo, so I installed it after a hard reset and configured it. Since synchronising with my Exchange account to get my contacts, it now loads up saying it is searching for contact addresses and performance might be reduced. No matter what I do, it then exits the application after around 30 secs or so. Any ideas? I really don't want to go back to TomTom!!

Christ! No idea! I'm not on an exchange server so it found my contacts fairly swiftly with no problems.
Sorry I can't help with that one.
Here's my pick of the top Pocket PC Apps:
NewsBreak 2.0
SlingPlayer Mobile
WisBar Advance 2
Pocket Weather
TomTom Navigator (I run 5.21)
Opera Mobile
HTTPMail Provider
eWallet
You can Google for all these products, or else see the list with hyperlinks.

Speed camera warnings for I-go are available from pocketgpsworld.
The only thing it lacks is traffic warnings...shame

I use push mail from an exchange account and haven't had this problem, although come to think of it I haven't added a further contact recently. Will try and report back.
