WM5

I tried Magneto on my Himalaya,but I had lot of problems(see 'Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking'). Is it there same problems also for Typhoon? Meaned the biggest problems such as unability to connect via ActiveSync,unability to accept many applications from 2003SE,etc. Someony who has it already tried,please write here your opinions and experiences. Thanx.

On Typhoon, Activesync works perfectly, you can't unlock it, neither for applications, nor to use another sim card, you can't use USSD... Don't load it for the now and wait for the final version.

+1 you are right.. it is so early for WM2005. if you load microsoft can test WM 2005 on your phone and you will be cavy...

Will there ever be a stable WM5 for the typhoon?

It can be application unlocked very easily with a simple registry change.
I dont see the problems eveyone is having with the typhoon with wm 5, its very stable I dont get any crashes or lockups any more. Tom tom 5 even works relaibly. The only downfall is the camera, which im sure there will be a fix.

I am still interesting about the applications. WM5 needs applications designed especially for this OS or accepts also the apps,which are running also on WM2003(se)? My Himalaya,while running on Magneto,wants not accept lot of the software that I am using with WM2003se normally...

I've been running WM5 on Typhoon for 1 week.
It's awesome. (totally happy, no issues with anything)
The WM5 GUI look & feel is much better for everythying
It seems faster
I really enjoy having photo/ring-tone based contacts built in.
radio seems to aquire quicker
Active Sync over GPRS and IMAP mail is MUCH faster!
I also recommend Pocket Controller Professional. You can control any pocket pc or smartphone from your computer! (and sync files, etc etc) It comes with “skins” so it looks like your whole phone is up on the screen. (very nice to "type" in stuff now and then too) Works great on the Typhoon with WM5 so far.
The Tornado should be interesting in Oct. (similar size + WiFi + EDGE)

s4czech or anyone else, could you please indicate me a link where to find a complete explanation on how to upgrade to WM5?
I already downloaded the upgrade, but as I donno the procedure all I get is error' messages that this or that is missing... Thanks!

I am using WM 5 on my C500 (Typhoon). It runs very well, stable and fast. I have installed the following Software (tested and running). Except Power Task, they are all WM2K3 Apps
- CityTime Alarms
- Developerone Power Tasks (WM5 Version)
- Fizz Traveller 2
- Fizz Monitor
- TCPMP
- WordPad
- Blackjack
- Facade from SBSH (new)
- Opera for Mobile (new)
- Papyrus from SBSH (new)
- GPRS Traffic Counter (new)
And that's basically all I need

Works OK.
As it's for smartphone though there are no scroll bars. Need to navigate with the d-pad or arrow keys.

This looks good, but I can't get it to run on my JasJar. I didn't apply the hires hack, I wonder if that does something else to it as well. It installs fine, but when I try to run, it doesn't load.

You need to do a soft reset after installing or it won't work.

Is this some kind of beta or a trial version?

I just created a cab file from the original files, but still I'm not able to run it, I installed it on wm2003se device, plz any one take a look at it and force it to run if it's possible.

Universal Doc, I think it's a trial version. That's what I downloaded from the Opera site anyway.
I can't get it to to run on my device though. It seems to install -- I soft reset as instructed above, but when I click it to run, it doesn't run, the cursor circle pops up and runs for a brief moment, but then nothing else happens.
I tried the CAB file posted above, but it won't install on my device. Gets about 80% done, then a message pops up that says unable to install on the device.
No luck for me yet - hopefully Opera will release their WM5 version soon. I really like miss TrueVGA browsing.

It does not work for me yet, such a shame (the devices are brothers of each other but don't have the same blood) but mine is a wm2005 machine now.
I get:
- Opera load failure
- Unable to load opera.dll
Can anybody post the opera.dll, maybe someone or meself can compare de dll's and can get this to work on his BlueAngel brother.

I downloaded Opera 8 for Smartphones from Opera website, installed on my Jasjar, soft reset and I am able to run it. I installed the application to my main memory and not to the storage card.
However it is not a perfect run on the Jasjar, for example when I open the Hotmail website it takes me to the mobile hotmail website and not the full hotmail website. Furthermore it just takes me to the log-in page and cannot go further because when I enter the username in the prescribed box every press of the keys enters 2 characters simultaneously. For example when I enter "s" it would enter "ss" and so on.
I believe we will have to wait till Opera releases the version for Windows Mobile 5 for Pocket PC.

SPB Pocket Plus

SPB Pocket Plus v.3.0.1 works fine on my XDA mini s, but then after a soft reset, the dan thing won't load past the 02 splash screen, requiring a hard reset to get it working again.
Does anyone else experience this? If so, could anyone suggest some alternative apps that provide the following functions:
1. Close/minimize button
2. Desktop function
3. Battery meter across the top of the screen.

"magic button" is good for all that...!

download the latest version (3.0.4 I believe) - that verison is compatable per their site. Its the verison I'm running on mine.

I'm running 3.0.4 on my Vario with no problems at all.
You have to install it on the main memory because it won't work from your SD card (mines did't)

You can also try their 3.1beta release. On my 2K3 device it's much better integrated with the OS.

You mean that annoying dictionary link where, if you don't click it, nothing happens?
I dunno, I don't think that trumps Pocket+'s annoying 'Safe Mode' enabled by default option where, if you don't happen to read about disabling the thing, your WM5 PPC may require a hard reset

New Opera Mini 4.1 version released !!

Today was released to the public Opera Mini v4.1
You can download it here, or here for the signed versions.
One of the new features of this version is Direct address input, that makes a lot easier to input any web address.
But I'm having a trouble with it.
I'm using the latest Esmertec Jbed, build 20080222.3.1, and Opera Mini (all versions) runs in full screen without up and down bar. And without that I can't activate the keyboard...
Does anyone knows how to prevent Opera Mini to lauch in fullscreen??

cheers does anyone know how to stop the anoying "do you want to let Opera on the web" (or something similar)?? I tried all the signed Midlett installs, but none of them worked, just got a error saying "Midlet no signed". Ended up installing Opera Mini unsigned. (Using TAO Java)

can anyone confirm this ? if this is true this alone would make it worth upgrading.
also I have my Opera Mini set up as default browser thru that hack that's going around. if I upgrade do I have to do that over ? And will I lose my bookmarks and everything ?

I thought I read somewhere that opera 4.1 is ".. UP to 50% faster than 4.0 ..." in the Kaiser Software section".
If you install 4.1, you have to redo your bookmarks, speed dials, rss feeds, etc. To me, it's worth it. I can see the speed increase in page rendering and the auto completion for a web address is a nice time saving feature as well. There is a minor bug though ... you can't backspace when typing an web address. You have to 'insert symbol' in the drop down box to edit the web address. I uninstalled 4.0 for 4.1. But you can install 4.1 and still keep 4.0 if you wanted to since these are two diferent versions of the same app.

Is there an actual PPC version?
Or does it only work with JAVA??
I see all downloads there is .jar .jad and blackberry versions
Any info?

Thought it was always a JAVA application, would love to see a native PPC version though.

menu->tools->settings then uncheck Direct address input will allow the on screen keyboard to work.

Hmm, I'm using the multi-signed version and no longer asks "do you want to let Opera on the web" (or something similar) bla bla talk...
Maybe it's because you are using TAO Java. Try to use Esmertec Jbed, it's the best virtual machine...

yeah, we all know that, but that's not what we want. We want Direct address input enable and to be able to use the soft keyboard (for example on my Prophet). And because Opera mini stays in Fullscreen, due to the upper and lower bars, we can't acess the soft keyboard. Get it??
By the way, my father has an Sony Ericsson K800i, I tested a few minutes ago, and the version of Operamini for that mobile has an option to enable/disable the fullscreen. Damn it!!

Works like a charm with esmertec jbed. I had some trouble downloading the signed version, since downloading from pocketIE automatically launched the tao midlet manager (which didn't recognize the bertificate btw), so i ended up going to mini.opera.com/beta with firefox with wap plugin installed and grabbing the high memory .jad signed with multiple certificates from there
Having signed version allows to permanently allow access to internet and filesystem.
For the direct address input - it seems to work only with numerical keys (so a sip like phone pad should work). Disabling the direct url input allows to use normal keyboard SIP or hardware keyboard just like in previous version.
Downloading really does work - that's probably the best feature of new opera - no more pocketIE launching needed
Overall, i really like the new version. The only change i would like to see in in is allowing to use hardware keyboard with direct URL entry.

Great!!! finally something that works from a sd card without tinkering with. By the way - it works to some degree on qtek 8500 with wm6 as well. I tried it with opera - no problem at all and great.
Bombus - the jabber client - problem!!! doesn't use all keys - direction and input. Other miscallenneous programs - input problem. To be expected though, it was made for different software.
Not a major problem though. The JRebeiro_EsmertecJbed3d works from sd card as well - install and just move the big exe somewhere and it will run ok. The files will be stored in the main memory though. To be exact in the appdb dir in windows folder.
I decided to keep the new version - for instance in bombus the text is actually written you just can't see it. if you switch the t9 on and carefully write your login, pass and server, you can even use it. However, it is only just usable, I don't really use it often, in favour of Agile, so I can live with it.

Never mind, I don't know what was worse my laziness or the stupidity of my question. Sorry for taking up threadspace

problem with Opera 4.1 trusted release and this update
Is anyone having problems with this and Opera 4.1 trusted midlet? I am experiencing the following:
Everytime I try to use autocomplete and type an address, when I press a letter it repeatedly makes the same letter. Also using the fast scrolling feature with numbers 2, 4, 6, 8 does the same thing except for without the letters. It just keeps scrolling by itself! Any one else experiencing this and is there a way to fix this?

I gave Java build 20080521.4.1 on my new sprint ROM for my Mogul.
Anyone know where I can get this as a .cab so I can install it into customs ROM's that I flash?

Installed this on an Axim X51v - doesn't run at all, from main memory or SD card. It just doesn't open at all. Any ideas?
